Hey Guys and Gals
Huawei have jumped into the "Phablet" market with its flagship Ascend Mate 7. This device has a massive 6" screen, some may find this an issue as its a hand stretching 81mm in width. The 16GB model comes with 2GB of RAM and the 32 with 3GB. Whats your thoughts on this device?
Lets take a look at the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 Specifications

This looks actually pretty impressive....its what the note 4 could/should have been in some aspects.
If available in canada with working LTE I could see getting one.
Never thought id ever be interested in a huawei device but they nailed it with this one

I have to wait for more in-depth reviews of the device, but I am seriously considering getting the Ascend Mate 7. I currently have a Note 3, and was hoping that Samsung would either increase the size of the Note 4 or release an updated version of the Galaxy Mega 6.3, but no such luck.
This video shows off the AM7 and it looks really nice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayYcVWO3yLI
I'm so jealous of those bloggers at IFA that got one.
Also, I wonder what kind of dev support we can expect here on XDA for the AM7.
Dev support is definately something I would take into consideration prior to buying.

Looking at the mate 6 forums there's plenty of support.
I'm also very interested in this device, owning an note 3 and seeing how the note 4 is a big letdown I'm considering upgrading to this.
This phone looks great! There will always be the people that dislike this and the other Mates for their mid-range specs, but this phone is mostly for battery life. I have a Mate2 and I can get 2-3 days on one charge easily.
Also, we just achieved root today! Sadly Xposed doesn't completely work, along with Viper4Android.
As for dev support, the original Mate has a number of ROMs up, but the Mate2 has nothing. Again, we just got root very recently. Another reason why is most likely because no one knows about this phone. Maybe the Mate7 will bring new developers and users. And if that happens, I hope the Mate2 gets the same treatment.

There is no Mate6, unless you mean the Ascend P6?

Ahh, my bad yes that one.
I hope the mate 7 will get cm. If it does it will be a blessing of a phone.
I would buy this right now for battery!
I'm currently using Nexus 5. I would really like to know if we would get stock rom on this. I really like the dual antenna and finger print setup. I think it will be challenging to get stock to working on those features.
Anyway I am still willing to buy it now. Any suggestions where would I get it?

Hasn't the Ascend Mate 2 been out since February? If it took this long to get root, that doesn't bode well for the Mate 7. I don't think I could wait half a year for root.

Yup, around that time but that was the Chinese/overseas model. It already got root and even an official KitKat update.
Our US model only started to get sold here back in July, I believe. So about 2 months to get root.
Mate7 looks like it will be a Bad ass phone, like to get my hands on one.....
If stock Android/root would be guaranteed I'd buy this the first moment I could get it.
Will T-Mobile LTE work on it?

Yes T-Mobile LTE, and you can Unlock any Huawei Bootloader and Root using the hw-qmonekeytool and adb

Well if it was as easy as you just made it sound, why'd it take the other mate referred to in the other thread forever to gain root?
Guess I just gotta wait for someone to port stock. I could use a launcher I guess.

We didn't have the hw-qmonekeytool to get the 16 digit code needed for the Unlock of the bootloader to get root, now we do. Huawei is like HTC, as long as you have that code, you can unlock any Bootlader on any Huawei and get root.
I buy all my Huawei's direct from China (Better prices) Once the Mate7 is available (in the Configuration I need for FDD LTE) I will have it.

What's FDD LTE? Also, am curious how the octacore within the Mate 7 compares to other SoC's nowadays. seems like a low clock to me at 1.8, ya?

We use FDD LTE (Frequency Division Duplex-Long Term Evolution) here in the US they Use TD LTE (Time-division Long-Term Evolution) in China.
The Ascend Mate 7 features an octa-core (1.8GHz A15 + 1.3GHz A7) Kirin 925 SoC with Mali T628 GPU. While the 16GB variant will come with 2GB of RAM, the 32GB variant will pack 3GB of RAM.

lol, I didn't need you to rehash the specs. Just wanted to know if there's comparisons to the other flagship SoC's out there.
So if I purchase the mate 7, is it gonna be compatible with At&t or T-Mobile's LTE?
And any words of availability?

Knowing Samsung's reputation for preducing the best Android smart phones and probably the best smart phones period for the period of their release, and how adamant they are about staying above the competition (Note: HTC One X), do you think we'll see one?
With LG producing the first ever smartphone with 2 GBs of RAM (double the average competitors software), therefore dethrowning them as the defacto best Android phone makers, and with newer hardware being utilized by Samsung's biggest rivals, Apple and their latest iPhone; do you foreseably see a rendition of the Samsung flagship phone before the year is up?

There is no doubt about that.If you remember Galaxy Note marketing strategy,Galaxy Note 2 to be expected to be announce very soon will be their new flagship, note 10.1 tablet benchmarks clearly shows better GPU Mali 600(5 times as powerful as the Mali 400 use in galaxy sIII),just imagine 5 times, there is no doubt that Note 2 will be launching with the same hardware.Note 2 is their next flagship(expected to be announced shortly). As for LG they are ready with A15 krait quad core with adreno 320 and is officially the most powerful smartphone out there, enough to put all these A9 quad core to shame(remember what dual core A15 did to quad A9,Tegra).Now it's up to you which flagship you want,as in android unfortunately every week will have a new flagship, specs and size going higher and higher.
Again, Krait is no A15, but QCOM's own design, with pipeline lengths and OoE somewhere in between of A9 and A15 (stock ARM designs). Then again Exynos is not stock A9 design, but optimized by Samsung.
So, we don't know till we taste the pudding.
Also, the timeframe for Note 2 (or whatever it will be called) announcement is somewhere in October and shipping probably in late November or early December.
That's a long ways away

competition is bigger , market will be changing every now and then. A 2 gb of ram dosent dethrow anything, eventhough 2gb sounds nice practically its of no use. Every flagship will be at their top for atleast a year as per their specs, you can expect the same for galaxy s3, its the best around now. If you need a bigger screen then go for Note or wait for Note 2.(assuming note2 wont have any significant changes)
Yes there are always next generation(exynos 5 series, quad core krait) waiting to demolish all the current lineups like s3,hox,etc etc but it wont happen for atleast a year. this will be the same in the feature but with the reduced time gap
The SGS3 in Japan actually has 2GB RAM.
http://www.samsung.com/jp/galaxys3/index.html?pid=jp_home_thelatest_main_galaxys3_20120515
It uses S4 instead of Exynos.
It's like a totally different phone with the name of SSG3 (in terms of hardware).
BTW guys, recent "leak" by Nordichardware suggests that Note 10.1 will have a Exynos Quad using Mali-T604.

Did you ever take in consideration that that might be a rumor? Or the over hype factor like what happen with the SGS3?
-1080P Screen
-1.5 ghz quad core
-12 mp camera
-2gb ram
Remember all that? I mean it's believable because LG is late tot eh party, but lets not forget that the S4 Pro hasn't even been found in a device and you think they're going to skip over that?
If it's true, I just want to believe it when I see clear and concrete evidence.

Yea, this graph is representative of the ARM portfolio. That dual-core Mali (year 2012-2013) was projected for a device in the entry-mid range level. If some company releases a phone in the entry level with Mali400 MP2, I think it's quite acceptable in 2012.
Sad news...
Yes you just read the title of this message right. Our insider just gave us the first official “unconfirmed” specifications of the next generation Galaxy S, the Galaxy S IV. The Galaxy S IV will no longer use the Samsung EXYNOS processor and according to the latest rumours this processor has overheating issues. Today we can confirm Samsung will use the Snapdragon 600 and it is clocked at 1.9 Ghz which is 0.2 Ghz higher than the HTC One. The Galaxy S IV will have 2 GB of RAM and will come in three variants 16, 32 or 64 GB. As the rumours earlier reported Samsung is going to use a Full HD display. The Galaxy S IV uses a 4,99″ Full-HD SoLux Display we have no information if this is based on LCD3 like the HTC One. But a couple of months ago we posted the first hint regarding Samsung’s LCD factory is ready to produce Full HD panels from early 2013. And we also know Samsung’s AMOLED factory does have many problems with the production of full HD AMOLED screens.
We also know more about the build and dimensions of the device. According to our insider the dimensions of the device are 140.1 x 71.8 x 7.7mm and the weight is 138 gram, the new Galaxy S IV will use a home button and will have touch buttons. If you look at the photo below you will see that it will be square formed again, so they dropped the Galaxy SIII design line. He also said the sides are made from aluminium but the back is still plastic which automatic hints to a removable battery which is good to know.
Yesterday we already found out that the Galaxy S IV will have a 13 megapixel camera. Some leaked photos created by the Galaxy S IV showed up to confirm that.
If our insider is right again this is a bad sign for all the EXYNOS and AMOLED freaks out there. Below a list of the confirmed specifications through us right under the specification list you will see the boot screen photo.
- 4,99″ Full-HD SoLux Display
- Snapdragon 600 1.9 Ghz
- 2 GB RAM
- 16, 32 or 64 GB
- 13 Megapixel
- 140.1 x 71.8 x 7.7mm
- 138 gram
- Home button with touch buttons
- Plastic back with aluminium sides
- Removable battery
- Black / White

Exynos 5 Octa uses I think it was 4 low power cores and 4 high speed cores, so it's not a battery drain for low end tasks. (Octa = 8)
I will wait for official word on this, I can't see Samsung announcing the Octa this year, then not using it, it gives competitors a chance to trump it.
If they do use the snapdragon 600 it will be good because whist yes the Exynos is a good processor Samsung will not release decent documentation for it, so developers have a hard time getting AOSP roms working efficiantly, the Snapdragon range is completely open source so roms will work a lot better, and be easier to port. Exynos has already made developers leave Samsung devices.

doubt that, since they got LTE and exynos working together finally. but the snapdragon seems like a give and take situation. that octa looks like it'll be an amazing processor, but if it's a snapdragon then we can finally get AOSP working fine.
as for the LCD, that's gonna be a personal preference for everyone. I wouldn't mind either, but I'd miss the blacks on the LED. the color punch is really nothing, I set my display to natural.
but really, do we even need the octa now? these phones we have now are over powered. I run my note ii at 1ghz with 1 core enabled and notice no differences in day to day use (except video chatting, that requires at least two cores lol) . point is, these quad cores (by today's standards) are just too much, and kinda gimmicky. I don't think we'll need to see the octa for a good year or two.

Samsung have announced the Octa now, it won't be long before other chip manufacturers try to beat it, then Samsung's great idea will be old tech before it comes out. They have no choice but to put it in something if they want to make any use of it.
Btw we will get more details from Samsung on mwc starting tomorrow. Ill believe this only if it comes from Samsung. Whatever the processor or screen it has already been decided and s4 shoukd be in mass production right now.
《posted from s3》
I think that's nt true. Because making a SS on PS and open up that image on a phone and taking a photo in bad light conditions isn't too hard.
Actually, I think that phone is Xperia Z or LG Optimus and photo taken with a S3...
Next Galaxy S device(international version) will have Exynos Octa(5440 or 5410) or Dual(5250) with 5" FULL HD Super AMOLED Display. Why Samsung use another solution? I don't know any logical reason. Warming? Power consumption? Software based reasons? I don't think so. This is my two cents.
On the other hand, I think(I know, I used a lot -I Think-s)next Galaxy S device will have Exynos Octa, 2GB of ram, Mali T604 or T658 GPU, better camera lens(S3's sensor is good but lens is a bit deficient.), 2600mAh battery and also more durable chasis and screen. On software, Samsung will do wonders...
Edit: If I had gramatical mistakes, I want to say I'm sorry for that. Because Eng. is my 3rd language.
You obviously seem to have very little knowledge concerning technical product design. If it' physically impossible at the moment to manage the heating problems in this case, then in fact THIS IS a reason to kick the Octa processor for a Snapdragon...

I for one welcome Qualcomm in the international Samsung phones. Makes for a great if not superb aosp experience, doesn't it? Or am I being too naive?

Hey all
Here Sony have gone against the past "mini" devices, the compact is a fully featured little brother of the flagship Xperia Z3. Boasting the same chipset, albeit with reduced RAM. It also features the same PS4 remote play feature. Something I'm sure we would all like to see ported to other devices. Its a promising Smartphone for those who feel the shear size of the flagship devices are getting out of hand.
Lets take a look at the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact's specifications, feel free to comment

Thanks for the link to the white paper. Originally I thought they might have removed/disabled ANT+ as it wasn't listed in the product website but is mentioned in the white paper. Looking to use it for cycling and hoping with battery life it can do up to 6 hours with GPS enabled.

Regarding expandable storage, it isn't really limited to 128GB, it's just that nothing larger exists. Technically according to the microSDXC spec it is limited to 2TB expandable storage.
Has anyone had any confirmation on whether there'll be a glove or pen mode?

I don't think they say 128gb max, because there isn't any bigger, but because Sony itself supports till that size. The system itself supports bigger of course.
720p with snapdragon 801. This thing will fly and battery life will be better than z1c

Thanks for correcting this, it has been erroneously reported as 64GB in a lot of places
Cheers guys:good: Updated the OP.
Looking forward to the 20.7 mp camera. Currently have an HTC one m7, worst camera ever. Also like the compact size and decent battery capacity.

Ditto. Although would the reduced RAM offer better battery life? The 720p screen was a smart move and I completely understand that decision, but I'm wondering why they only went with 2 gb of RAM? People will say, Who needs 3 gb? But that's just a tired answer, why upgrade anything at all then? It's been shown that the extra RAM would improve performance, but I'm curious if it also affects battery.

Hmm yeah, I don't know. I guess it does matters 'a lot', in theorie 1gb extra ram would add 33% more power consumption.

In that case the battery would be used just from the memory. Not from screen, network etc.
2Gb are enough, the z3 needs 3 because of the full hd display because there is no separate graphics ram.
have the 2GB RAM been confirmed?... gsmarena states in all previews that it will have 3GB as it's bigger counterpart... but the specs page say it's 2GB, so I was wondering (or hoping) if it was a "typo" of them when making the specs page .

oh well... Sony site says 2GB. Link. It should be more than enough though...
Against fist rumors it seems that the bezel/frame is not aluminum.
Sony used some plastic for the sides.
After using my beloved One S for two years now i think i will miss the feel of the surface.
Hope the glass and the frame will not be prone to scratches.
But i'm really tempted to get this phone and hope some Devs will give us some fabulous roms.
This will be my next phone!!!!
i'm just waiting for clove.co.uk to get it in stock and hopefully bundle one of the smartbands/watches w/it again like the Z1 was.
I'm an AT&T USA customer and was previously on Tmobile USA and loved my Xperia Z1 and haven't upgraded phones since getting it last nov. The biggest feature that Sony has above everyone else? Waterproof phones.
Plus, a 'mini' phone that has the exact flagship specs = PURE WIN!!! and to top it off, PS4 remote play.. oh yea!
The Z3C could have been the ideal phone for me if only it had a few "minor" changes. First and foremost 32 GB of internal storage then 3 GB of ram and the matte back surface of the Z3C tablet.
Hope Sony will adress these "issues" while keeping the same footprint.

There is no such thing as a 'perfect' phone.
They could have added these things easily, but didn't chose to do so because it would consume more power.
The matte back surface is purely based on taste

I actually prefer the glass-sandwhich look. I'm coming from a Nexus4, which I've realised since the beginning was too big for my taste, and this z3compact seems the perfect phone for me.

I think we will get other covers ! But from my opinion the specs should be atleast 2gb ram , USB C support , 12 Mp back and 5 mp front cam with IR Blaster !
It should be priced under 250$ .. Then i m gonna buy it !
Looks like lenovo is infecting motorola AKA Looks like a ZTE phone. Ugly design.

If this video is truth... (i don't watched it because i am on 2g) ONLY 1GB RAM? I GONNA KILL SOMEONE NOW. Motorola thinks we are in 2012 and ship phones with 1 GB of RAM is a normal thing. The processor needs to be AT LEAST a 64-bit one, and it needs to be more than a Snapdragon 410, maybe a 615.

Yeah it's ridiculous
The screen resolution is the same, Quad cortex a53 @ 1,36GHz 64bit, adreno 306 (I think it's a Snapdragon 410), 13 Mpix camera, LTE..

Yeah, if the GPU is an Adreno 306, the CPU is a Snapdragon 410, so the new Moto G3 is a copy-paste, 5" version of the new Moto E 4G. God my next phone will be a Nexus again.

I think I'll rather buy a used Moto X 2nd.
Lol only 1gb ram in 2015. If this gonna happen it will flop not like moto g ot moto g 2nd
These specs can't be right surely? The Moto E 4G already outperforms the G, so can't this possibly be an even lower end model?
Moto G 1st- Snap 400
Moto G 2nd-Snap 400
Moto G 3rd-Snap 410~ which is more or less a 400 , but a 64 bit version.
These kind of lame specs are okay if it was Q1-Q3 of 2014. Now, it doesnt really make sense of having a sub 100-120$ phone spec(MOTO E 4G, Redmi,Lenovo A700).
My next phone will probably be a nexus(if its under 450$)
If this is true, what a disappointment.
2 years an basically no evolution?
If the specs in the video is to be believed looks like they are killing the MotoG .. Part of some corporate strategy .

The 13mp cam with dual led flash is a nice upgrade for this gen, and a 5mp front isn't bad. But the processor only being a snapdragon 410 is disappointing. It should be a 610 at the least, but a 615 to make it stand out. Other phones at the 180-200 price have it, and 2GB ram. Since that's a prototype that leaked I'm hopeful it'll have better specs when official

I doubt they'll change it.
Perhaps the aim is to keep this phone as cheap as possible. Sure, you can gradually bump the specs up, but then you're near £200 and away from your initial target of £100-125 (or whatever).
It's funny that the 4G Moto E outperforms the Moto G, but the G is still the nicer phone for a lot of reasons (camera, dual speakers, screen etc) so perhaps people will value an even better camera over better performance when their needs are going to be quite moderate.
I think that even now, Snapdragon 400 offers a good performance for most things, along with good battery life.
That's not to say I wouldn't like more, but perhaps Motorola knows what it's doing (and how this will fit around other devices it plans to launch).
Well you can get all the specs we wanted from the 3rd gen Moto G in the £125 Vodafone Smart ultra 6 (unlock code for £3-4), a Moto G with similar specs could have still released at the £145 starting price of the 2nd gen and with things like front facing speakers, factory unlocked and far more potential for better support with OS updates would have been the much better buy, and if they didn't want to go to 5.5 inch screen they could have kept the 5 inch screen they are using now the pixel density is more than good enough and saved some pennies there and that would greatly help with battery life too.
I got it ! Motorola Will Give 2 variants of Moto G 2nd Gen
8 GB version with 1 GB RAM
16 GB with 2 GB RAM
we had only saw 8 GB version both on the leaked video and Flipkart leaked information !
As all the Companies are making 2 variants of Smartphone ! Moto Will also do it !

Mediatek is also a popular chip set used by some large smatphone manufacturers and is been doing great contribution to developers since there were many mediatek devices with a number of custom rom have been developed. And it is too early to expect updates at the moment maybe later next month ?.
I'm still comparing this device with lenovo a7000+, asus zenfone max.
Maybe you can help me decide ?
Hopefully LG will give more updates to K10.?
I don't know abt Lenovo but I was choosing between this and Zenfone Max as well. What i like abt Max is its battery but honestly I do notnlike the UI of ASUS.? also the screen of K10 is better than Max's. When it comes to camera functionality, Max is better as it offers more modes though not sure abt the image quality. Is Max a midrange?

Definitely max is in mid range device. I agree with the elegant design of k10 i hope that the battery can be replace by higher capacity.. I'm planning to buy this phone on may.
Just received mine 2 days ago, bought on eBay from Taiwan (needed the 700mhz freq for Telstra woohoo).
Going by CPU-Z mine is an Octacore MediaTek MT6753 1.30GHz with GPU Mali - T720, 2GB ram.
For the price $249au - posted, its an awesome phone. I do agree with some reviews about the dullish screen, but its not a dealbreaker for me.
4G Telstra works fantastic, havent taken a lot of camera shots as the weather has been average here atm.
I did an AnTutu benchmark, 35516.
Antutu and CPU-Z pics below..
I've LTE version and the chipset is MT6753 with 2GB RAM. It comes with marshmallow. Couldn't find time to test battery life. I'll try to build CM13 as soon as possible. Mine model is K430TR.
EDIT: @firthy , what's that new button on navbar? I don't have it.

Hi, I have 2 questions for people who have the DSY variant. Can you put 128gb micro sd on it? I read the spec on the net that it only supports up to 32 gb. Is it right?
Also, is this mediatek chipset faster than snapdragon 800? Can someone tell me as I am really new about this.
thanks ....
I'll be getting it in 2 weeks... as I already pre order it...

It says on GSMArena that it's expandable up to 32gb of SD card only but some users say it can read 64gb SD card. Not sure with the 128gb one.
I am using the Mediatek variant and I can say that it's very smooth. Not sure with the Snapdragon variant.
