first of all it'd help if you told us what S4 you have... if it's a i9505 update to the latest software - early software releases had this problem with high impedance headphones I believe.

I was under the impression that dj05 would fix the issue with the phone not defaulting to its mic when using a patch cable or headphones with no mic.. It would be great to have fixed.. I like to listen to pandora in my car.. And like to be able to answer a call when it comes in and talk over the car stereo.. But until this is fixed I need to unplug when talking..

Maybe not the solution you're looking for, but why not pay pandora over bluetooth?

Not everybody has bluetooth stereo capabilities in their car but even a car with a tape deck can be used with a 3.5mm jack.
I was under impression that it was fixed. At least I was able to talk on the phone with headphones plugged in. Cannot confirm because I on DI01 right now.
Nope... Thx tho

Subscribing for a solution, hate this too. Not sure I've tried it on DJ05 though. Anyone tried it on DL09?
Dj05 for sure doesn't work, I'll check 09 in a sec

I would think something so small would have been fixed by now.. I hope our devs will look into it.

I'm Running dj05 voodoo kernel, and I use my headphones and a stereo mini plug for my car, and when a call comes in, I can answer and talk into my phone mic, them when the call ends the music continues. I assumed it was dj05 that corrected this issue. I love being able to do this.
Strange...
May it depend on the phones somehow?
I'm pretty confident that it worked for me on DJ05 stock and geeknik stupidfast, because it was one of the annoyances I hated. Then I exchanged my phone because of USB problem and stuck with stock waiting for official update today :-(

I know for a fact it didn't work on di01, so if it is varied from phone to phone, its also firmware dependant.
i never said it was DI01. By stock i meant Dj05 Tom provided by adrynalyne.

Yet another Samsung ****up. They are getting good. By the time they release the beast they showed at ces it will have been fogotten. I absolutely love the hardware. And that about covers it.

This is not samsung's software problem. They deliberately decided to switch up the 3.5mm jack to make it different from Apple's products. Certain cables will work, some will not. Most likely, it won't T T.. DAMN SAMSUNG!!!!! (TRRS switch)
No one has confirmed a software can change whether or not the jack can be read differently.
Are there any devs looking into this?

Just tested this with DL09(the leaked version that's been stripped of bloat) and the problem has been fixed. I used JVC Gummies and my friend had no problems hearing me.

WOW! How so? At least all phones I have look the same physically. More over they work with both my iPod and SF.
I assume that it was bug in soft, preventing sensing jack without mic.
I rooted my att galaxy s2 last night and flashed the unNamed rom. Everything seems to be working great except phone calls. The other person can't hear me and i cant hear them out of the earpiece nor on speaker phone. Anyone heard of this?
You flashed a SGH-I777 ROM to your phone and you're wondering why it's not working properly?
Either you're in the wrong forums or you've made a terrible mistake.
My phone is the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Oh i apologize.. Thanks for the heads up
Hello my four days old Samsung Galaxy S4 i9505 did a shutdown al by himself overnight while charging. Because of this my alarm didn't go off. All I needed to do is a normal boot and the phone worked fine, but I don't think its normal!
Should I worry? Is there maybe a log that I can look at to see what happened during the night? I suppose this isn't normal behavior? Someone else had this issue?
It's my first android phone, I always had an iPhone (3G, 3GS, 4, 4s and 5) never had this kind of issue. My wife also has a galaxy S4 and that one is working fine. At this moment it only happened ones so maybe it could be a coincedence?
Some android phones do that from time to time... Wait for an update... Maybe it will disappear.. If not then try another firmware

I did flash the official firmware for dutch i9505 throught ODIN. But that's what I also did to my wifes i9505. I will monitor the phone and see if its going to be more often.
Thanks for you're reply.

i surely hope it is a one off... but i had same issue.. (i dont care about warranty) but i flashed cwm and wiped ALL (including system) and then flashed a stock rom with ODIN... no problems anymore but lets see what the updates and such will bring for you
Up until now no automatic shutdown. I'm really waiting for a good ROM like cm10.1. When that happens I will flash CWM.
Omega looks really good maybe I will try that tomorrow.
I'm having the exact same problem. Got my S4 May 1st and had these overnight charging shutdowns about 3-4 times since then. Quite annoying, specially when you' re using the alarm (which fortunately I don't).
Hope a future update will solve this soon....
I am on ME2 update (Dutch)

I'm also on dutch ME2, came from MDM german ROM. But I just had it one time now. Up until now everything worked perfectly. I hope it was a one time thing.
My wifes phone is also on Dutch ME2 and also came from MDM german ROM. She never had any problems whatsoever. Its very weird, I don't think its hardware related, its some kind of software problem.
so i have a monster isport headphones and i can hear clearly when using with the galaxy s4 however if i turn it a little bit from the proper placement i get no sound, is this a hardware issue or software. The headphones work perfectly on my galaxy nexus and other devices . Also i heard there is an update to fix some audio problem on s4 if anyone can direct me to the fix that would be appreciated.

This sounds like your device might have some hardware issue with the earphone jack.
Regarding this 'update', the most recent update is the MF3 build OTA update. You should have this by now, if you don't, be careful. You can update to it but if your phone is rooted or you plan to root - you need to search the threads of maintaining or gaining root access. The MF3 OTA update did a number on some people when it relocked bootloaders.
You can attempt to find this via Kies or you carrier.

It is a 2 week old phone and the original headphone works fine just the monster I sport is giving some issues maybe it is the right angle headphone pin that is the issue. I saw a zip file that fixed the problem without having to update in q form but can't find it now. My phone is rooted and using it on Canadian network telus

Yeah, I haven't heard of a zip file containing information that would fix that. Hope you find it.
I never had very good 3G signal in my home but I was always able to make phone calls without problem. After updating my S4 to 4.3, I even updated my bootloader to MJ5, it seems that in most of my phone conversations that last more than five minutes, the other party starts to hear my voice so distorted that it's impossible to understand what I'm saying. If I move around, walk out of the house, climb on a high tree, it doesn't help. I have to hung up and call back but only for a few minutes again.
I've tried all possible modem combinations (both gsm and lte) and it doesn't help. I switched my phone to GSM ONLY for a while and even though I see full signal this still happens.
Has anyone experienced anything similar? I've heard some people reporting that apps like viber may have confused their phones and have been causing this but I didn't have this with 4.2.x.
I wish someone can suggest something because I see myself going back to 4.2.2 for good and with knox 0x1 for no reason.

It seems to be a carrier fault which appeared at the same time as my upgrade so that seems to have been a coincidence.

You might've had to wait until there is some stable builds of Android 4.3 cause it is suffering from several critical problems at the moment...

Yes I know and I've tested all conditions but at the end I tried with other phones and there was the same problem which means it's my provider. It just happened to appear the next day of my upgrade. That's what causes all the confusion
