Unknown baseband, no wifi signal etc. - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So one day, I woke up to unknown baseband, no wifi, and no data. Now, sent phone off to LG, but they screwed me over, cause the phone had some crackes due to falling from my pocket. Now phone is on its way back, and am preparing for the worst, should I fail to fix the issue, using some methods on here, what are my options. Someone recommended for me to buy a new motherboard, will that cure the problem?. Also is it easy to change motherboard, considering how practically defunct I am at opening and repairing gadgets.

U8800 acts like its possessed!

Hi folks
In the last 3 days, my trusty old phone has begun to act as if it is either possessed or with its own mind.
If I try to compose a reply to a text, random characters appear in the input field and then Attach dialog appears at random. If I try to back out, the text message just gets sent.
In the home screen, the browser is randomly launched with me touching the screen, or the browser icon mysteriously migrates from the dock onto the general screen
I activated 'Show touches' in 'Developer options', and it shows random touches of the upper and mid right-hand sides of the screen (without me actually touching the screen).
It started under Aurora 3.1 Update 5. I tried a complete wipe, but with no resolution. I installed Aurora 4.1, but the problem remains.
As I type this on an iPad, the phone beside me is running mad with the browser opening and selecting random tabs.
I've removed the protective cover to avoid the possibility of pressure from the sides doing a nasty.
Any ideas and advice greatly appreciated.
Naj
I suggest either:
A) Call priest to make an exorcism : p
B) GO into CWM, wipe cache and wipe davilk (just these 2) and flash the aurora release you are using again, on top of what you have.
You won't lose any settings and might help correct some files or systems setting that might eventually got corrupted.
And how this will help?
He said that has already done a full wipe, and flashed Aurora ICS 4.1 clean.
Seems that is a hardware damage.
same happened to me. your touchscreen is broken. i just gave it back and good thing i still have warranty. they replaced my screen for free. and also i had atmel, now i have synaptics. also DO NOT FORGET to flash stock 2.2
btw you know what was really pissing me off? i had random touches around section where the "send message" button was. so when i was typing, it sent every 5 words -.-
Have you tried a different Rom to see if you also have the issue, such as flash a stock version?
Sent from Odin's device!
Looks like hardware problem. I think no ROM will fix this...

Thanks all for your comments.
I guess it is the digitizer. My phone is out of warranty, so it's a case of repair myself or replace. I don't feel like spending money on a new phone, so it's the former for me.
eBay has digitisers for around AUD$25.00. I am familiar with disassembling and reassembling the phone (dropped it into the toilet about 6 months ago!), so this should be a relatively cheap repair.
Thanks again

Perhaps ... however it is about six months since the accident occurred and it worked flawlessly until this point.

It's just the phone's way trying to tell you to buy a new one. I wish my phone did the same so I could get rid of it with good conscience! (And smash it with sledgehammer or similar heavy object. And after that shoot it with shotgun.)

I'd really like to buy a shiny new one. However, a decent phone will involve either a substantial out-right purchase price or a 2 year commitment with a phone carrier.
Anyway, every phone has its annoyances that make you want to turn it into fine powder! I hear of people disappointed even with the Samsung Galaxy SIII! However the X5 has been okay for me. It recovered well from a previous dunking in the toilet - courtesy of my beloved - and generally works great with Aurora.
I have already ordered another digitizer for AUD$21.05 including tools. If the repair is successful then I have a fully working phone after a very small outlay.
Naj
you may need a firmware update of your touchscreen

Well, shucky darn and slop the chickens - she's healed, healed I say!
The phone has been working perfectly for the last 2 days - no reflash, no reboot, no nothing.
And here I am with a new digitizer on the way.
I did not even resort to cantations and sacrifices.

HTC Repair Centre

Has anyone any experience sending their phone to the HTC repair centre after bricking their phone?
Long story short but i flashed the wrong boot animation and completely wiped the phone and despite several attempts to get a ROM on it again (spent days) I was unable to do so so brought it back to the shops where I bought it (was locked to o2 but I got it unlocked)
They sent it to company here called Fonemenders, i got a text today saying it has to be sent for level 3 repairs and mentioned something about the motherboard, now that has scared me a bit, it's bad enough I have to wait another 7 to 10 days but does anyone think I'll get charged given they'll see that it says tampered on it, i fail to see how it could be a problem with the motherboard too.
Has anyone any experience sending their phone to the HTC repair centre and what was the process.
Seriously contemplating never flashing anything again on my phone after this nightmare
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I don't have any experience with HTC's repair centers, but I've sent in several rooted Samsung devices and a bricked Asus Transformer for repair. My experience has been that the people in the repair centers really don't give a crap. Relax and hope for the best :good:
Samsung phones are seriously easy to modify compared to HTC, I'm no noob and read extensively on here and followed instructions to a t but still couldnt manage to get a stock or custom ROM back on my phone after that bad flash and me wiping it, no matter what I done.
Feel like I'm missing a limb here have gone over a week without it and now have another week wait, i won't rest easy until I have a fully working phone again.
Hope you are right my friend.

I don't think HTC phones are difficult to flash, sure, not as easy as Samsung, but on the other hand, much harder to brick.

I'm a bit concerned though why they mentioned the motherboard (see attached) there was nothing wrong with the motherboard all that needed to be done is for stock ROM to be flashed back on it.
I'm reading some reports of people being charged a lot when they are informed the motherboard has to be replaced, i should have just sent it into a repair shop in town for €25.
Well the flash ROM is soldered to the motherboard, if it is bricked, it would require a new motherboard.
It's probably not bricked, but in order to maintain your warranty, sometimes they say they must return it in "factory condition", which means unlocked. Which means a new motherboard. That's probably not really true in most cases, but once it's been unlocked, it's possible to overvoltage and overclock, which has the potential, however slight, to cause hardware damage.

they r very easy to flash
I'm very curious to see how HTC will replace the motherboard without causing dents in white polymer or screen damage, as we saw in ifix only with heat and a scalpel can be open the ONE.
Unless HTC repair center have an opening method that we dont know, they should give you a new device.

I sincerely hope you are right mate, I'd snap up a new device now.
I will report back anyway, if they come up with obscene charges I'll have to just leave it into a mobile repair shop here, i already went there and they said it would take a week and I thought that was too long but in retrospect I should have just left it with them.

Sorry when I said bricked it's just a term, i could get into recovery and I even relocked the bootloader so i tried all the various commands but i simply could not get anything to work, can't they just flash a ruu.exe for my device, i tried that myself but the ruu.exe in question was not compatible with my phone (earlier version)
What happens in an event that they fix it and then try and charge me and I refuse to pay or is it likely they'll be contact me first to inform me of this, and if i refuse to pay they'll just give me back the phone as it is?
I'm skint and haven't really got the money to pay for repairs, can afford a few quid but not over €100

iFixits teardown was flawed. If you pop the two speaker enclosures off there are screws that allow you to open the device.

Yup. The detachable speaker covers are the last seal in the assembly but iFixit acted under the assumption it's fully zero gap, so they broke it

I'd bookmark it, they might add the speaker covers eventually. And who knows, if you're feeling adventurous maybe you can just do a color swap

If they have identified an issue with hardware then thats good for you as you'll get a new device and your flashing has not been identified as they issue..... Your lucky they're doing it under warranty.
Mate don't worry about sending it off I've done it before sometimes its delivered earlier than expected and had my screen replaced before and there was nothing wrong with it as far as I'm concerned...I was happy with the service some people may have different experiences

HTC repair centres vary by country. HTC usually employ a company to look at them. So each experience will be different.

[Q] LG G2 Screen Problem

I am really frustrated with my LG G2 because of the screen problem I encountered. The screen goes up and down, it happens when I over using the phone. I went on LG service center to reset my phone. still no luck, the problem is still there. They think its a software problem. I hope LG will release new software update on G2
To me that seems more like a hardware problem, not a software one.
Can you reproduce the problem at will?
Dude, I think you have a lemon...
Good luck!
It happened when i charged my phone with the screen is on and i always reading manga. maybe the screen is too sensitive. Yea i think this is hardware issue
I have used mine while connected and charging... Never had a problem with that.

You are running it completely stock? And you've done a factory reset? If so, it sounds to me like your phone is defective. These phones are so new it should still be under warranty, right?
Just got the same problem as OP last night and I've used it only for 1 month,so now I send my phone to LG service center and they said it was a hardware problem not sure which part but will reply here soon when I got my phone back and tell you all what's the problem...

Got a similar problem. I am unsure if I want to send it back for exchange or just keep it, as there are plenty of reports of owners exchanging G2's just to get another with the same problem. Looks to me to be a software issue - at least with my G2 - as I can get past it by just turning the screen off/on.
Let us know how your G2 turns out.

Lol just swapped it out. We will see how the new one does but so far way way better. Seriously my phone was horrible. I read and read thread after threads today and my case seemed way worse then everyone else's. Like most people's was tolerable, this was intolerable. I'd say 6 out of 10 times u turned on the screen it be messed up.
I showed the best buy mobile guy and he said without a doubt there's a problem. The best place for me to show him was the app drawer, if u held ur finger on the screen it would bounce and randomly select apps, we tried the demo unit and it worked perfectly.
Ill keep u updated on how this baby does.

Well that didn't take long. Started setting the phone up and all was good. Started disabling the apps I don't use and after that it went berserk. I thought Hhmm maybe it's one of the apps causing it so did a factory reset and no it did right off the bat so I'm done. If it wasn't to late tonight I woulda just took it back again. Back to the Note 2.

Yikes - sorry to hear this.
I wondered if my first G2 was worse b/c I aggressively set it up right from the start: disabling apps I don't want, installing a bunch of apps, etc. On G2 #2, I didn't do that and although I've seen this issue surface on my new G2, it has been just a couple of times.
You need to use whatever phone you get the most enjoyment out of. The G2 undeniably has a software glitch that causes this PIA issue. Too bad it didn't work out for you. Good luck with your Note.
I hope LG addresses this issue SOON!!

This happened to a few people here in Thailand. We are posting the issues on a group in facebook.
My iPhone 4s used to bounce all over the place when plugged in to charge.
My G2 hasn't had any hardware issues at all yet. I've had it going on 7 months now. Works perfectly.
My advice is that if you get a replacement or repair and it does it again, never get another LG product again. Just like me an Apple. I'm done with them. There's a guy here who wants his old Note 2 back. I know a guy who had 3 motherboards replaced on his Note 2. The last one broke the screen as the phone was swollen. There's no way of knowing. Its just the luck of the draw with these things.
When you get a really good phone, keep it and use it until it disintegrates. As long as this G2 is fine, I won't part with it for anything.
And yes. This is a hardware issue.

Since when I had my phone repaired and they had to change out my prox sensor, screen, and digitizer, I really think it's a hardware issue.
Just had to have my D801 replaced by T-Mobile for an issue where the screen was picking up two finger touches instead of just one in a small area in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. Warranty replacement was easy but I wish this wasn't an issue.. I love this phone.

I was going to do that with TMO, but they wanted $19.99 "processing fee" or something ridiculous. On top of that, I'd get a refurb device. I ended up going through LG - they had my phone for about two weeks.
Like I said though, the issue is back..
as i was going to buy the korean version without warranty... I think it is not a wise decision to do that seeing so many issues with the lg g2 screen... I am disappointed as this phone looked like my ideal phone with ideal screen size (not too big, not too small) with a good camera... but I don't want to take a risk on the screen issue.. I have the htc desire and it has issue with multitouch and it is very frustrating (can't even rotate on gmaps) ... I don't want this again lol

Hey guys I have a issue with my S5 keeps freezing and vibrating twice before rebooting constantly I have tries flashing stock firmware via odin, repartitioning, custom roms, updated modems and still it keeps doing it at random intervals.
The other day it ran for about 48 hours without freezing but I have no idea what I did or didnt do that caused it any help would be much appreciated.

Since you tried all software fixes you could think of, problem's in hardware. Try another battery and see then. If even then it reboots it's something far more important than the battery and you're screwed :| (have to give it to repair shop).

I assume you've done a factory reset too btw. If not, do one and see then as apps tend to cause bugs sometimes.

I have sometimes it works fine for a few days then it starts doing it again, wondering if it's worth trying to open it on my own to see what the issue may be or just wiggle some connections to see if something may not be connected properly idk at this point but it is strange

If it was me I'd just take it to the repair shop. But if you know hardware stuff maybe you can try. I don't, I'm a software guy Anyway, good luck.

Kool won't risk it then lol thanks for the help bro. Seems to be working ok for the past few hours so I just won't turn it off lol hopefully it stays this way for as long as possible, I am scared to turn it off since the issue might/will return lol

I had the same problem and fixed it by changing to a new battery. It seems that the older battery doesn't hold enough peak charge whenever the CPU tried to stay at 100%.
already tried changing batteries that did not work for me.
Time for the repair shop route.. Or if it cost to much to fix, you can find a good used or new for cheap on ebay or swappa.
