Placement of power button is really a major design flaw, you need two hands to turn on your phone, this is ridiculous, I can turn on even my lawnmower with one hand. The reset button hidden under battery cover, hey, it's running windows, reset button is one of most important buttons. If I need to remove battery cover I can reset my phone by just removing battery as well. I don't need that button anyway. No camera button, how I'm supposed to take autoportrait? And again you need two hands to take a picture. Volume buttons on side are too big, I press them accidentally all the time so I end up in silent mode and don't hear incoming calls or SMS. What was wrong with sliding volume button on original Touch? Light sensor is great idea, however it doesn't recognize light in my room from pitch black, it has the same value (zero) so I can have minimum backlight and see nothing or I can have medium backlight and blind my eyes when I pickup my phone at midnight. You can't use this cellphone lying on table, because it wobbles because of that that camera protector. I'm talking just about HW issues so far. The are infinite software issues, but software can be tuned. HW will stay like that, HTC Touch HD is just a one huge design fault. I have been using HTC Touch (Elf) before. I have been looking forward to buy this phone since HTC announced it. I didn't expect I will get for my money this piece of ****ing ****. Excuse me.
I know how you feel. you know, I never learn. When the Omnia was announced I bought it. Was disappointed and sent it back. Then.. WOW! the HD looks cool! Bought it for £500! I've just arranged for it to be returned. Quite a disappointment all round really. Design as you say isn't great, its heavy too for its size. Not may apps run on it including TT5. Its no upgrade from the Diamond in my opinion, well not £500s worth.
I put my sim in my diamond again today and thoughthis is better, and looks better. Bye Bye HD. All I need for my diamond is a better battery, £50 done.
Also that paint chipping malarky isn't good is it? Now.. I just need to learn my lessons and stop being such a geek! My Girlfriend told everyone I'd shelled out £500 for a phone. They think i'm 'kin mad! I agree

Indeed this is an ultimate example of stupidity. Funny how nobody complained about the same thing done by Apple though in Jesus Phone. It's just equally annoying there.

Couldn't care less where the reset button is, frankly. Unlike you, I'm not a big fan of pressing it, on Windows or not, so don't use it often enough to be bothered.

Yes, if you want to delete it right away - this is not a camera, this is an extreme piece of garbage. Maybe HTC device users are used to this I don't know. But I was simply shocked. It's so slow that it's simply impossible to capture anything that moves faster than continents are drifting.

Come on, they just don't make good phones, admit it. Any phone has tons of stupidities. There's no other choice but to accept the least of the evils out there. Somehow making excellent things just doesn't seem an attractive business model anymore. It's just so much easier to stick a stupid 3.5mm jack for headphones with no data capability for a remote control (people will buy this no matter it's less convenient in practice than extUSB Audio, if you think about it for a moment), and make a camera with a bigger megapixel count that a competitor has.
But I digress...

Camera with bigger mega pixels and ever crappier plastic lens just annoys the hell out of me, but unfortunately they get away with this; because the majority of people are stupid (or ignorant, or whatever.)
Being less harsh..... I suppose in the grand scheme of things all this technology is new, once the expectation & experience of the general public catches up, finally we will see better devices.

Lol! Buying a Touch HD and expecting it to be good enough to replace your regular digi is stupid (or ignorant, or whatever.)
Seems to me that people forget that this is a cell phone first...it's not a digital camera with a phone feature.

i have small hands and i can turn it one handed so i'm not sure whats wrong with your hands...
yes the reset button is poorly placed as is the volume rocker and having no dedicated camera button is weird as well.
in saying that the main fetaure of the hd over others is the screen size and display resolution.
there is no 'perfect' device, if there ever was then they'd have no room to make future stuff.
I'm pissed with the poor camera and lack of flash and it really wouldnt surprise me whetehr they release a simialr version within the next 6-12 months with these fetaures. but if they had everything we wnated this time, why would we buy the next model?
Nothing is perfect, every fone gonna have some flaws, because every1 thinks differently, and the phone are made up of only a group of ppl, so there bound to be ppl who think its ****.

Funny how millions of iphone (same location of power button) users and hundreds of HD users never complained about this problem. may be you need to examine if you are holding the phone correctly. I can turn on the phone with my either hand, my teenage children can turn on the phone with either of their small hands.. my judo coach can turn it on with either of his giant paws. so unless you have 4 fingers on each hand, i am baffled at your complaint.

This is highly depended on what kind of junk you install on your phone, i never had to use my reset button since I got my phone 3 weeks ago.

first of all wtf is "autoportrait"? you mean portrait picture? or self-portrait? or auto focus? I haven't heard of one camera that can "autoportrait" a picture for me. Secondly, I take pix on HD with one hand, landscape or portrait. the friends to whom I showed my phone to for the first time snapped pix one-handed. You are like an old grandma who doesn't want to change the way you do stuff because you are used to your thumb being the "holder" and index finger being the "trigger". if you need help, i'll be mroe than happy to take a pic of how me and my friends operate this phone with one hand.

irritating yes, major flaw no! DeviceLock, S2U2, PocketShield, etc etc.. all provide customized lock function that will lock hardware keys. Gosh, since you are so lazy, here you go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=449744

If you are not using any third party software to adjust the light, then yes, the screen tend to be brighter than it should. but it definitely never came to a point in any condition where the backlight is off and i can "see nothing". If you are using a third party software, then it's your own laziness that needs help so you can adjust the software's settings to best suite your enviroment. I use G-Light and it is working wonderfully.

LOL, I dont even know where to begin for this one. Should I tell you to get a regular home/landline phone because you are using a cell phone on a table? or should I ask why do you care the phone wobbles if you are setting it on the table, because your attention must be somewhere else, and busy doing something else with your two hands in the meanwhile, after all that should be the reason you set the phone down in the first place no? Honestly, if your are doing something else with your two hands, and the phone is on the desk, it just wobbles on it own?!?! I find it perfectly easy to turn the phone off one handed. I haven't had cause to use the reset button yet so who cares where it is. Not to mention that you don't want it in too convenient a location lest it is pressed by accident! The movement of the device while on a flat surface is minimal. Admittedly the fact that the volume buttons don't lock is annoying but something I am sure can be solved with software. The lack of a camera button is a minor irritant although accidentally pushing the button and activating the camera on my Trinity was also slightly irritating.
I would suggest that your list of "Major Flaws" hardly adds up to a minor irritant and if you are so frustrated by such small things then I doubt you are ever content. Nothing is perfect, to expect such is foolish and will only ever end in disappointment...

They did not complain because they don't know they could have better. Yes I can turn it on with either hand also, but it is very inconvenient. If you think this button is well placed, then you must have both hands left.

Yeah right, if it is not design flaw why should I ever use any third party sw to disable it? If you have to find a way how to deal with it it mean it's flawed, period. Volume button on Elf was just fine no need to bother how to disable it.

It has flawed hw, no software will help you, as I said light sensor is not sensitive enough to see difference between normal lighting condition in my room and pitch black, so everything in between is the same. So you cannot set different backlight for normal room and dark night.

You dont need third party software, a small dll edit sorts it out and some people want to be able to adjust the volume while the device is locked so they can easily change music volume.
The light sensor is suprisingly sensitive. Do as instructed, install G-Light and all your backlight woes will melt away

Light sensor is not sensitive enough, I installed GLight, thats how I found out.
The thing that I dont like with HD is .... current TouchFlo 3D.
HD has 3.8" screen, great 800x480 resolution ... but that TF3D Today screen is just waste of space because it can only display 2 appointments.
To make it worse, I cannot install Today plugin there.
Oh yeah, I can disable and use other Today application like the old HTC Home, SecondToday or SpB Mobile Shell ...
You right, but that's not the point ... HTC should have done it right to incorporate the new hardware ... the big screen with its software, user interface, and such.
Another one, why the contact photo tab could not have "tiled" (arrange to grid) photo arrangement? I hate scrolling just to find the correct contact photo. The contact photo in Manilla is better.
Another one, why the image viewer could not operate in full screen? Yes, I know, the sliding flow animation is nice for showing off .... but to have option for full screen is much better.
So, thanks to current economic crisis, I decided to wait for the next iteration.

as much as we dont like the tf3d, we have to realize, htc gave this to us for free. other companies, charge for such a program, spb mobile shell, etc.
secondly, even you agreeed this is a beautiful phone, so htc did a great job. software wise, ms mobile is bad. even worse, ms didn't open their platform, so htc can't implement this "touch " shell deeper into the OS. given their fortay is in the hardware, and this giiant obstacle, i say they did an admirable job.
as for the appointmments, using advanced config tool, i can seethe appointments of the next two days. give it a try.

What do you mean by that? Go to Album, see the thumbnails, tap on a picture and voila - you have it in full screen.
On the front of the HD2, on the panel for the buttons, the panel is well how do I say this, loose. Not to the point where its faulty, but enough to annoy me. I went today and returned my HD2 for a new one which still had this problem. Really its just a small movement but i was wondering if all devices are like this.

The reason why I began this thread was mainly to see If it's worth it to go back, UN-HSPL2 my phone again repack it all and return it for a new one. Seeing as others have the same problems I may not
I think its the case with a lot of phones.......
mine havent got any looser in the 7 months I've had it, its only around 1mm worth of movement, if that puts your mind at rest any.........

Dosent hurt . Better than my old HD2 where the panel actually squeaked on the back button. Things like this that make me envy the buttons on the EVO and the Nexus. Damn you HTC
My front panel buttons don't even budge. Same for my volume button.

Seems like some devices were damaged during shipping or something. I guess it bugs me to have a device worth 500-600 dollars and then have a loose panel on the front. Ill give it a week and i might go back to T-Mobile and make sure i get a good one
I thought that is how the buttons were. It's one long piece of plastic inserted between the glass screen. It can't be metal cause it might scratch the sides or something. The buttons on my HD2 has a small wiggle to it, but I've never seen anything otherwise. (with those type of buttons)
The HD2 is a quality device. After checking the volume buttons and the quality of the case, it just seems to me that that's the best those buttons can be at this time period. What do you guys think?
Month and a half of use - all are very tight/firm. Do get from time to time a little sticking noise on the power button but that seems to be fading. They should have been individual buttons instead of the single strip and have mechanical keys that were made of metal. Mine is the US version TMobile. Very solid phone. No complains so far and compared to my previous phones - TYTN I / TYTN II, Fuze this one seems to be built the best. No flex - super solid. The only thing that seems to be better built is the iPhone. Their latest version 4 seems super solid although I'd never buy it.
The buttons on my device are a bit loose too. Not when you simply press it but when you actually try to move them a bit. Anyway I can't be more descriptive LoL.
Nothing very annoying, I guess it's like the other poster said, a bit of plastic inserted between the screen. I had my doubts when I first got it (given that my Rhodium's buttons couldn't been more tight), but I can live with that. Like I said, not very irritating. The volume buttons though are very tight!

I know I am hatting the call quality, poor battery meter and radio reception. Hope its just a matter of getting updates to correct these things.
Love the phone overall aside from some left out givens from the galaxy S line. Would like the phone to replace my Vibrant but the call quality so far is killing it for me. Knowing the phone will be first on the next update seems like a plus but at the cost of a few nice features.

Yeah it lagged for me too, only when I was transferring though, safe to assume it was just that. As for the call quality, I find it very good, no complaints here.

Calls sound digitized and buzzy. I sound find to the other party but my side sounds too processed. My Vibrant and N1 are clear with no artifacts. Will swap it out when stock is back up and give it a second chance.
Poor reception in my area at the house. AT&T full bars, on T-Mobile, my bars go from full to 0 to 3, it's just weird, I can just sit here and see it move around.
3G not so great here either. Both these issues is with Cell Coverage, so not really phone related.
No Notification Light is still a big annoying. noLED helps a little but that software needs some major tweaking/options for me to completely like it.
Gingerbread 2.3 keyboard: Stock 2.2 you can swipe left to right to engage voice, no such feature in 2.3, and the mic icon (if you want voice) replaces the comma button , if you turn off the mic icon, comma appears, but now you can't engage voice sigh. Bring back swipe for voice please Google.
Screen is incredible. 100x better than Nexus One. Even in daylight. Only complaint is that it's TOO DAMN BRIGHT.... fixed with the app Screen FIlter.
Web browsing zooming in/out is a bit laggy and not as smooth as I'd like.
No issues on call quality to and from.
I like that the power button is on the side. The external speaker is amazing, huge upgrade form the Nexus One. So much louder and fuller.
I'm coming off a CyanogenMod Nexus One, and happy as heck the Nexus S got rooted first day. I've running everything I need/want on the Nexus S right now. No hiccups from switching from Nexus One CM6.1

Go somewhere noisy. Make a call and the person you are talking to will be lucky to hear half of what you say. The NS is absolutely amazing at picking up every noise but the ones coming from your mouth.
I've had no issues with mine at all. This phone has been pure winfor me!

My dad is on his second NS. Everything he moves (walks or driving) while on a call the person on the other end will start hearing the call being choppy.
So far, my phone has been great.
I only have two complaints about the Nexus S:
- I wish they had used some kind of text coating on the casing to give it a bit of extra grip. The phone, when I first handled it, was really slick.
- There's the ever so slight separation between the glass and casing at the edges that can, will, and does attract dust/dirt/whatevs.
And just one general rant: Stop rearranging the god damn capacitive buttons. Pick an order and stick with it. Google/the OEMs can change the pictures or icons if you like, but please pick an order. It's not fun to relearn a phones buttons every time you get a new one.

It might seem minor, but it really drives people up the wall. My girlfriend decided against upgrading from her N1 to the NS solely because "What? They changed the key layout? Why would they do that?" And she is no dummy, (PHD in organic chem) she could easily adapt in a day or two. But ppeople really value consistency. The proper button order should be part of the Android specs and not left up to the whims of every 2 bit company using Android.
Nothing in this world is perfect, we all know that.
What annoying you about your Xperia Play? Anything from little tiny niggles to other bugs. Discuss and see if we have any fixes
(Btw I love this phone and by no means am I slagging it off, these are little annoyances )
I'll start:
The sliding screen wobbles a little
My volume slider has a small imperfection that makes for a slight pointy feel on the bottom
When using Bluetooth headphones, turning them off before stopping the music crashes the phone and forces a reboot (Bug)
Right trigger feels more loose than the left
None of these really affect how the phone functions, they just annoy me a bit
What you guys got?
I think the only thing that has really annoyed me is the auto-dim. That thing is ridiculously sensitive.
If I wanted to get really picky - when the game pad has been slid out the right side of the screen sags a little lower than the left side.
I'm annoyed with the lack of L2 and R2 buttons, it limits the phone's emulation capabilities a whole lot.
I would do with a livelier screen, I feel the colors are so bland now in comparison with my old Galaxy S...
The back cover is jokingly frail, and the SD card doesn't work if you remove it... I'm thinking of getting a spare one.
My issues:
1) Stock camera app instead of the Arc's
2) R-trigger much more lose than the left
3) Back cover is too difficult to remove, and feels like it will break at any moment.
4) Bottom of phone squeeks on the back panel/battery cover
5) Phone's reception is very disappointing
6) Camera/Video capabilities are extremely disappointing
7) Lacks backlit keys under screen
8) Notification light in a less than ideal location
9) 512MB RAM chokes at times
10) Headphone jack and usb port on side of phone; need to be on the top and bottom repsectively
11) Auto-dim needs the option to be turned off (like on almost every other phone available!)
12) Phone takes quite a while to charge to 100%
13) Volume button is difficult to press while holding the phone vertically; not easy to feel +/- without looking
i dont really have any of them problems lol.
only thing annoys me is 512 ram
also i dont know what ive done but i dont have the autobrightness either. it stays on whatever brightness i set it to onthe power control widget :/ it also tells me 2.3.2 is the latest update tho lol
Well, I've had a nose around and the wobbly screen can be sorted with the mouse slider pads you have on the bottom of your mouse, just stick a few onto the back.
With the auto brightness I am confident the up coming CM7 Rom in development that it will be added.

This is actually quite ingenious!! Can't believe I never thought of that. My play hasn't had this problem yet but I know it will eventually, the OG droid had it big time and was the reason I gave up on that phone and moved over to the Dinc.
For people complaining about the auto brightness and general screen brightness issues, are you aware of the factor installed "screen protector" thats on the play? I haven't done it yet but apparently you can easily remove it and make the screen much brighter, more responsive and less like to have auto brightness issues. This except for the screen. I owned a Captivate with the SAMOLED and loved it but I just came from a Desire HD so this screen is amazing compared to it.

1) Stock email not accepting security certificates from exchange meaning the arc / play is not business ready. Htc, iphone, bb all do this.
2) Screen is a joke in the sun. No two ways about it. Whenever I try to show off the plays gaming to my friends, seeing them squint / struggle to see the screen embrasses a little. Also us it me or does this Screen just love attracting smudges. I spend so much time cleaning it ;-)
3) touch screen sensitivity. Never had problem typing on the iphones screen. On this I just can't help missing. On the iphone, I think due to it needing electric charge from finger it was a lot more accurate. On this the first tiny tap of one my fat fingers selects the letter. Generally either to the side or above the one I need. Ok I use swype to remedy this, but don,t help when selecting links in the web

6) force close, hanging when using messaging and dialer pisses me off also.

1. Screen is too dark. Unusable in any type of sunlight.
2. Graphically intensive games lag like a *****.
3. The phone also lags at times.
4. Sometimes loses wi-fi for no reason.
5. Signal drops out sometimes.
6. DPAD is too close to the upper part of the phone meaning you can't use flat of your thumb. Making it very difficult and uncomfortable to use 'up' in games that require a lot of 'up' movements. eg. beat em ups, football, 1942 style shoot em ups, rpg etc.
7. Screen isn't most sensitive or accurate. My Iphone 2g was better.
8. No HD recording. WHY?!
9. Poor battery.
10. Auto dim is stupid.
Apart from that, I love the phone and wouldn't change it for the world. I am a gamer first, I will always choose a pad over the above.
No issues whatsoever for me because i research into other peoples fixes for any problems i have,

This is my first smartphone...so a lot of this is new and exciting to me...but ether are a few things..
0. No root for r800x!!!!! Lol
1. No hdmi our like my girlfriends droid x.
2. Ergonomics...hand cramping when gaming.
3. I always have to physically look fire the volume.
4. Ram.
5. triangle and up buttons are a bit close to the screen...it would be nice to have an option for backlit
Buttons...despite the mediocre battery life.
All if this in no particular order. I love the phone as its kind if been my pspa nail in the coffin...since I used my psp mostly for emulation.... Rip psp.

I have these problems as well as a LOT of Wi-fi issues. It is the only device of the many i have that has wi-fi problems.
I also have problems internal memory being way to small. I love collecting games I have well over 400 on my Ipad and under 20 on my x Play and the internal memory keeps getting lower and lower. I'm going to be forced to root soon.
And lastly the volume buttons suck and are hard to push if you are in a hurry to turn it down. For instance it you have the volume up loud from home and your timer goes off in the middle of an important meeting. LOL

Where I got the Mouse Slider pad idea from. Made a big improvement on my phone when I close it, Might stick two more on.
And yes the only camera I had to hand was my phone

dunno what everyone's talking about, I've no problems at all! ha, guess I got lucky! Well, I lied, I've 2 small ones, but nothing to write home about.
Minor issue with wifi dropping, but have found that it usually occurs where the reception is kinda iffy
And my screen SLIGHTLY wobbles...but I'm not too fussed about that!

One way was just posted like 3 posts up.
I don't have a lot of gripes left. Fixed the crappy typing issue with a new keyboard, and taking off the screen protector. Fixed my no screen off animation issue, fixed the buggy sony launcher for launcher pro, and most my other gripes.
Only things left are
notification light position sucks
I miss my amoled display (indoors anyway)
I don't see the big deal with ram, Android doesn't really need more than 512mb. The reason you only see 140mb free at idle is cause it caches the bajeesus out of your commonly used apps. If it needs more ram it can and will make room. I personally have not seen any significant lag in games from lack of ram.
And someone said poor battery??? This phone has amazing battery life compared to most smart phones.

Well I came from a epic 4g and well I am not use to on screen keyboard so I mistype a lot of words lol,
Phone comes at a good speed besides start up which my epic was rooted with speed rom.
I allways lose service for no reason.
Wifi I havent had a problem
Havent had any slow down on anyp games yet,
Battery is sooooo much better then my epic I had to chargd it every 5 hours and this phone not until the next morning.

After a week of owning the One M8 I am pretty happy with it, I'd say very happy actually. Not fair, but the comparisons are against my previous phone, the Galaxy S4. I was heavily considering the S5 on ATT, but ATT is screwing S5 owners, no root, and doubtful ever to see custom recovery for ROM's.
Pros;
- Screen is awesome, very crisp and sharp, with realistic colors, looks extremely detailed. After my S4's AMOLED, this is a refreshing change. Plus outdoors it looks night and day better than the S4 screen.
- Crazy smooth fast. The M8 is Star Trek warp speed fast compared to the S4 which would be current rocket technology fast. Plus TW on the S4 would lag or pause for a second or two in some apps, never get anything like that on the M8.
- Sense 6 is very nice, compared to Touchwiz, it looks more professional, nice Black / White / Blue theme and design to Sense 6, more of a minimalistic look. I still think stock Android is the best, but Sense 6 is a very close second. And Touchwiz is last place of all UI's to me.
- Battery life on the M8 is off the charts AMAZING, I mean like really good, maybe even 50% better then my S4. This thing almost lasts as long as my old Note 2 battery.
- Speakers, I wasn't ever really looking for great speakers in a cell phone before, never thought about it. But wow these are crazy good, loud and very clear sound. YouTube videos and music sound awesome. Really wasn't expecting to like the speakers as much as I do.
- Development friendly, I am rooted, custom Recovery, S-Off, and running a custom stock ROM. And I have the option to install the GPE ROM of the M8, so can always be on the latest Android OS if I want for years now.
Cons;
- Heavy weight, not a fan of the heavier feel of this M8, compared to my old S4 which was feather light. The S4 in gym shorts was barely noticeable, where the M8 feels like a brick.
- Curved back not cool, I like flat backs on a phone, to rest on a desk, and use it while laying down on the table. Can't really do that with the M8. I like a small thin flat case around my phone, not curved.
- Accessories, not nearly as many cases available for the M8, as there are for the iPhone or Galaxy line.
- LED Notification light on the S4 is better, bigger and brighter. The M8 has this tiny little flashing dot hiding inside the speaker grille.
- Not waterproof like the new S5, which would be nice.
Overall I really like this M8, just need to find that right case. But the S5 still looks nice too, but with no root and no ROM's for the S5 that is a big deal for me. I couldn't handle a stock carrier version S5 with no customization or option to debloat it. But the lighter feel, and flat back is nice for the S5.
At the end of the day there is no perfect phone. I think a combination of the S5 + M8 = perfect phone. Sense 6 + S5 screen + metal design in the shape of the old smaller S4 size + waterproof. Then I woke up

I have the S4 and I don't like it because of the plastic and now with knox I can't root/flash roms anymore so my phone just idles most of the time..
Also I had a problem where the adhesive between the LCD and screen started coming loose, in my pocket, Samsung won't replace it, I even contacted them directly but they said ANY damage to the screen is not under warranty, although the warranty booklet says something else.
Also my screen got scratched in the service center (see pic).
Originally I was deciding between the S4 and the original One, but went with the S4 because "everybody" was rocking one, well I don't know why Samsung devices are so popular, in my opinion they are okay, but not worth the money at release.
I'm getting the M8 tomorrow! I'll post my thoughts as well.
Btw, as someone who does take some photos, will I be disappointed by the camera? The S4 is 100% good enough for me, I actually even prefer my Lumia 800 camera because of the bokeh and feel.
Agree With almsot everything. though I put the HTC logo/bar and horrible sleep button in the cons.

Yeah that's probably the only thing that I don't really like on this phone, the LED notification. If it wasn't for the good speakers telling you a notification came in you'd never notice it until you unlock the phone again for whatever reason.
Not the worst thing in the world though.
As for the waterproof, I did see some videos on youtube where they tossed in water and it held up nice enough even though it isn't officially rated as "waterproof". I won't test it out on my own though...:cyclops:

I hardly notice the bar anymore...
I also got pretty used to where all the buttons are regardless of the fact that I don't usually press the power button to turn of the screen, just leave it to auto lock. :good:
The only thing that annoys me about the M8 is the position of the headphone jack, why oh why did HTC change, it was perfectly fine where it was, Asides from that it's a brilliant phone and worthy contender for phone of the year 2014, although the new One plus one looks a beast and amazing price, but the build quality and boom sound should win it for HTC again.

This is definitely something I agree with, the "horrible sleep button" part. I've run my finger over it a few times, and it noticeably sways in place. If you press the edge of your nail on one side of the button, the other side slides upwards, and it just doesn't sit still and feels very loose. Absolutely HATE it. It's going to be hard going for another phone after the M8 though, unless it has similar "Motion Launch Gestures". Even though it's more of just a usage convenience, I'm almost addicted to how great it is to turn the phone on by just tapping on the screen.
Also, the curved back actually feels pretty nice in the hand, but I'd probably like it more if it had a flat back too. That, and if it was less slippery (though I'm trying to look around for a good skin to put on the back so it won't be as slippery). Also, I wish there was like some kind of a separator between the volume up/down buttons (either a gap or a little elevated line), and that you could put a lock screen widget onto your, uhh...home lock screen. Right now, it always open to the default HTC lock screen (unless I'm being stupid and missing something. If someone can point me in the direction of changing that, I'd be really glad), but those are kinda tiny nitpicks.
Not really waterproof but still "waterspray" proof (ip x3).
The S5 is just protected against temporarly in water dives, the Z2 permanent.
Also... the M8 survived 30+ minutes inside a water bowl. and nothing happened on it.
In any halfway realistic scenario, the ip 58/67 will have zero difference. Noone throws his phone into a swimming pool tbh, or goes diving with it.
If i would ever go diving, and wanting to shoot those rare awesome pictures, i would get a professional camera for these moments.
Is the One M8 " water spray proof ". If so that's cool. Would that mean protection against rain drops or light mist ?

I just replaced my M8, my other one had a loose power button and good volume keys.(wasn't the reason I had it replaced). This one has a perfect power button. Like really. I've never felt a power button this perfect before. And the loosest volume keys ever.... Sigh.
This power button though... There's like no give side to side until you press it. I'm actually amazed.

I've never really been worried about getting light rain drops on my phone. The only time I really see it being a problem is when it's pouring. Nothing bad water related has ever happened to any of my phones

Only fault I can give it is the power button. It still boggles my mind as to why it wasn't placed on the left or on the side and volume keys moved to the other side.
I love that HTC decided to reintroduce external memory and they can be forgiven for not giving us hot swapping of memory/sim cards.
Also after being with Samsung for 3 years I'm glad to see HTC is still developer friendly

I agree with your weight comment. I have a Seidio surface with kickstand case (blue is beautiful, the pictures don't show you the wonderful pearlescent finish, which really pops), a glass screen protector and this unit is HEAVY compared to my feather light S2. Sound was the key driver of my purchase. I bought my wife an M7 for her birthday and have lusted after her speakers ever since. This in my mind outweighed the lackluster camera. The screen is great, but the great thing about this LCD springs from how bad my AMOLED S2 screen was. It has severe screen burn in issues. I was always babying it and worried about turning it off, now with LCD I can use on screen alerts if I want, and leave my screen on for as long as I want.
You are right about KNOX. That killed ANY Samsung product for me. Even though I hate begging mommy HTC to give me a code to unlock the device I just paid them $750 for, KNOX is orders of magnitude worse. These are our devices, period. I guess if you live in the dying empire, addicted to an ever deepening credit spiral, carriers may have the right to somehow control the device, and your behaviour, until the end of the contract. However, those of us who do flash occasionally know a new ROM really gives an old device renewed vigour, so the ability to do to our devices whatever we wish is an absolute must over the typical contract period of two years.
Just a slight correction, I don't believe GPE will give updates for an eternity (the impossible to service battery, 2/10 iFixit score tells all you need to know about the inevitable end of life of our device). The GPE ROM update is still provided by HTC, so we are, I believe, at their mercy for however long they see fit to officially support the device.
Only thing that's quite awfull for me is the muscle ache in left arm after holding it in my hand in the morning, cause it's much heavier than my old SGS3

Erm. The power button would definitely have a better home on the left side (and it feels really loose on mine, so that bothers me too), but the volume keys are on the right side because if you hold your phone normally, in portrait, you can press them with your thumb. Having owned an iPhone 5 as my previous phone before this one, I did get used to the placement of the volume keys on the left (as just getting used to it is what every one of these "why is button X in position Y" complaints can be explained away with), but I think it's better this way overall. I mean, sure, you can use the volume keys with your pointer or middle finger(s), but using the thumb's easier (at least I think so, and I reckon a lot of other people do too).

Yeah I also like the volume keys where they are. I hold the phone in my right hand so it's much easier, only problem for me though... I'm not entirely used to it yet, I tend to press the volume down button on a frequent basis by accident, it doesn't help that the volume keys are so sensitive either but like you mentioned, it just takes some getting used to. Though I'm not saying that sensitive volume rockers are a bad thing, I think it's awesome...
Power button, they probably could have put it where the SDCard slot is and you could quickly turn it off with just a thumb slide but, I also like it where it's at now so. It's out of the way and prevent continious accidental locks while you're busy, which I can easily see happening if you take into consideration that I still accidentally press the volume down button
I don't really understand the complaints though, if they pick up the device they could unlock it with power button almost instantly before they even manouvre it into their hand for use...Else what's wrong with a quick swipe from the bottom to top to take you to last screen worked in? For the turning off...well if you're going to put it down anyways what difference does it make HOW you press the button, the thing is going on the table anyways and if you're lazy and read with the device flat on the surface you'll end up pressing the power button from the front side(Device facing up) with an index finger anyways...
Oh well, to each his own I suppose.
Like I said though the only MAJOR complaint I have is with the darn LED notification. Perhaps if they could just have increased the size of the LED slightly so that it could shine through more grill holes it would have been better but it's effectively a single grill hole notification with hard to notice colors on the LED in some instances. :silly: It's fine though the speakers make up for it somehow by clearly and loudly notifying you of an incoming mail, message etc so...

Yeah, a fair argument someone could bring up to me that I fully agree with is that the volume buttons are a bit too sensitive, and I accidentally press them a lot too. Again, I wish they were separated a bit (don't really like them being one unified strip), and were a bit more rigid. I can change the volume on the M8 without making almost any noise, but I'd take some noise when pressing the volume buttons as opposed to accidentally pressing them all the time (which is extra annoying seeing as my headset controls don't seem to work, at least not in PowerAmp).
Agree about the volume buttons. The amount of times a notification goes off and I thought I had it on silent/ vibrate.
