N7 3G Battery drain and 3G connectivity issues - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am using Rooted N7 3G version with "[Kernel][4.3] M-Kernel - a60 [WiFi/3G] by Metallice' kernel and stock rom. Earlier I used Franco Kernel.
Since past 1 month I have been facing severe battery drain issues even when Nexus is not in use. When the N7 is on stand by mode during night, it drains almost 30-40% of battery. The battery lasts for approx 2 hours with minimal usage on Wifi. (These problems are faced even on Airplane mode).
I think there is some problem with my 3G radio. Its not thing to use 3g on it. There is often disconnection or the network is lost on the tab. I think similar problem persisted when the nexus wasn't rooted.
Can you recommend some better Radio, Kernel and battery fixes for improving the stability.
Thanks.

Battery performance and phone idle

Hello,
not sure i have seen a thread on this...
I tried stock, beast and Eden and each have a common issue:
Battery is draining in standby mode...
One night sleep and battery drop 40 percents...
I have a LCD 3G and see that phone idle is eating 50% of it...
Do i need it if i use 3g only for data and not phone?
Did you experience difference between using WIFI or 3G all the time?
Thanks
Best

Singapore users 3G Battery Drain

Any Singapore users here with rooted/custom ROM'd S2 still experiencing heavy battery drain with fairly normal usage (occasional web browsing and playing games, maybe 3-5 photos - battery dead in less than 8 hours?).
I've noticed that here in SG, my 3G signal keeps on going off and on, as if the phone is constantly trying to reconnect to a 3G signal (SingTel has been pretty bad for me, especially while walking around town). I've turned it off to 2G only and my battery seems to have improved.
Anyone else in SG have suggestions on how to improve battery life?
Although old thread, for anyone who like to have an app to auto toggle 3G in a set interval check this review:

3G is the suspect zero!!!
3G is definitely the suspect zero for your battery drain....

Im from SG dude my phone can last for 16hours with 3h-4h screen on. Its pretty decent. Change your modem. Im on LPX. Dont use FB app if you are using one. Its a huge battery drainer. Use BBS to find out what else is keeping your phone awake/draining your battery.

How the heck you get so good battery life O_O max for me with UV and UC is 14hrs 2.5hrs screen time.................... If you are on stock rom then that is also a suspect, Official 4.0.3 has horrible battery life
Im on RootBox JB by Bajee and Dream Kernel 2.7

[Q] Battery Life with CM7 Barebones

Hello,
I have received my Kindle 4 days ago. Rooted, backup-ed in the next hour and I installed CM7 Barebones edition, a very nice ROM.
After 2 days of intensive use, I found that the battery life in use is very reasonable, but in sleep mode without wifi, no sync and only the core services of android, i notice a 2% battery loss by hour. In the "battery use" menu in parameters, the process "when phone is idle" take me about 10% of battery. I intend to test with or without airplane mode and the battery consumption is about the same.
So my question for the other users of this rom : are you experiencing the same levels of battery consumption in sleep mode ?
Thank you by advance ...

Honestly haven't tired the Bare Bones ROM but I have the WhistleStop CM7 ROM and the Skimp Killah Super Kang CM7 ROM and both are great. I know Whistlestops version gets great battery life with almost no drain in sleep mode. I can sleep all night and only lose 1% with it. Just trying out the SKSK. I'll let you know.
I personally have not extensively tested the battery life of the rom I built (CM7 barebones). I do know the battery for me has no problem lasting a full day, which is fine for my need's. You could always flash over the stock kernel (which I will attach to this post) and compare the two. The current kernel in use is a intersectRaven build (20120110_1106 I think but am unsure). It is still being developed so battery life will likely just get better.
But anyway. Check the attachments on this post for the stock CM7 kernel built 02-01-2012. Also note, the stock kernel is not overclocked. It's default speed is 1008Mhz, where as Raven's is set to 1.2Ghz.
Ok ... indexa question for the whistletop rom, do you put the kf in airplane mode ? When i did not it seek for a signal and eat some power ....

I've notice a similar thing with the battery life. Prior to this ROM I was using whistletop's ROM with no battery loss while the device was sleeping. So as Takenover83 indicated, it's more likely to be an issue with intersectRavens kernal.
No problem, I can live with it for now. I love the responsiveness of this ROM, Thanks Takenover83.
I left my device alone for a little over ~10.5hours. Only thing I turned off was wifi. Note, I have a crap load of app's installed.
After 10 hours, I had 90% battery. So that's roughly 1 percent per hour, which I can live with. This was On Demand 300/1200.
Yeah I noticed a significant drain in battery loss. This morning my kindle was completely dead and when I got it charged I had some serious problems. It seemed wifi stopped working. I was able to connect but none of my google apps couldn't connect.

Weak battery life after 4.2.2 update / Android-System

Hello guys,
after updating my N7 (32gb WiFi) to Android 4.2.2, the battery life has drasticly decreased.
After 2 hours of display on time, only 66% left. WiFi was always on, I browsed the internet and watched a few videos with Youtube.
The strange part is, that 75% of the battery usage is because of Android-System.
Any solutions for this?
Thanks

i guess flashing a custom kernel will help. Right now I'm also running the latest update and it's been 35 mins of screen time at 90% battery level. When I was in 4.2.1, the battery life was much better and it didnt drain as much. I always liked stock because it gave me a much better battery life than custom kernels. I guess I'm going back if this continues.

Nexus 0.84 radio draining battery tremendously ?

Ever since i switched over to 4.3 battery life on my Nexus 4 was horrible. I think it is because of the 0.84 latest radio. I am using Paranoid Android 3.98 with Franco r178. Overnight discharge of battery over 10 hrs in deep sleep was 25 % with data and wifi off.. And when using 3G it was quite a lot. Whilst when i was on 4.2.2 with PA and Franco it used to be 3 - 4 % over 10 hrs in deep sleep .. I switched back to 0.48 radio and battery life became awesome again. I noticed today battery over 3 hours remained constant at 88 %. I used a lot of apps over 3G . Network was weak switching on and off but still after 15 mins of apps usage it still remained at 88 %. Overnight discharge back to 3-4 %. Is the 0.84 radio messed up and is anyone else facing the same problem ?
I'd be interested to hear from others if they've experienced the same. I'm not sure what to attribute my poor battery life to, but it's something I've been suffering since using 4.3. (Asylum 4.3 nightlies with Matrix 10.5) I'd say at least 30 mins screen on time after 'upgrading' from Asylum 4.2.2 nightlies.

I haven't really experienced any huge battery drain overnight. Sometimes it doesn't even decrease by 1%. Wifi and cellular data off. I'm using PA 3.99 with Franco 182 and 0.84 radio. However, I usually only get 3-4 hours on screen time.
Stock rooted 4.3 .84 radio. Battery life is great although my phone is on WiFi or terrific HSPA+ on T-Mo in my area all the time. I dont pay too much attention to my screen on time. As long as I get from when I wake up to when I go to sleep, I consider that good battery life.
Well it also depends on your location. If the old radio works better for YOU, great, but it doesn't mean it works better for EVERYONE.
No problems here... everything stock...
No problem here with 4.3 stock with root and franco.kernel with undervolt and underclock
I went back to the .48 radio and no luck. Battery life sux for me no matter what since 4.3

84, 48, and 54 are awful. Use a hybrid radio that includes 27 or 33.

Same problem here. 5% drain an hour.
I'll try different radios when I have the time.
