So I notice that an hour on wifi surfing the web took about 20% or more of thE battery...even playing game doesn't do that to the battery. Anyone experiencing similar thing? Anyone with 3g, is data looking the battery too?
Just keeping wifi turned on is also drains the battery for me.
Check your screen luminosity.it is the biggest battery killer
I'm running the Moto234_eVo_Carbon_V0.3 build and I've noticed that even with the screen off and the phone idle my battery drains at a pretty good rate when compared to WinMo. Any fixes for this?
for me 3g/h draw much power than wifi, almost 1.5x-2x of the wifi surfing..
Screen brightness is easily the biggest batter drain keep brightness as low as possible,
Data connection will hog more than WiFi if you are in an area of weak signal and your device is constantly searching for a signal, when your at home or work using WiFi just turn data off and switch to only 2g networks, set setcpu to screen off 245 245

Screen brightness definitely hits it hard, then wifi and bluetooth, keep em off whenever you are not using them and of course apps running in the background, grab a task killer, if its not needed, it shouldnt be running or else it will use power.

Get "current widget" from the market to see how much powers are being used. While screen off, my phone only drain about 4~7 mA...
I just came across this. Super detailed analysis of battery usage.

3g draws much more power than wifi. If wifi is available use it over 3g. But like others have said, the screen is by far the biggest battery hog.

I don't see how the screen is the biggest energy hog. When I leave my phone uncharged untouched over night and it it displays 7mah on current widget, I lose 40% battery in 7 hours.

That's unusual...i lose less than 10% over night...even with bad reception in my room, that didn't kill my battery. Maybe you can try this to test it out. Fully charge before you go to sleep. The next morning, check your battery in setting to see what is using the majority of the battery drain during that period...this might help you find the reason...
If noting else is running, Cell standby will eat the majority of the battery power.

Yes thats true, exactly the same in my HD2: 3-7mA = 1% an hour or less
Wow, I installed Mdeejay_eVo_Sense_v_2.3Revolution to see if this build helped on battery life. I charged my phone over night and had a full battery at 11AM (according to the meter) but by 7:30PM, my phone was completely dead. During this time, I had two 5 minute phone conversations and used GPS for 9 minutes. Other than that, the screen was not active and I didn't have WiFi enabled. Is this typical? Doesn't make running Android very practical on the HD2. This is only the second build I've tried but it's not looking very promising.

Something is wrong with your build. Try his newer build. They got a new kernel. If that were my habits, my battery would drop by only about 25%. You should install "current widget" from the market. It help you keep track of battery usage. On standby, most people and I got about 3~7mA. If you get a higher mA, that mean something is eating your battery.
Please give Mdj's New Build "Froyo Sense Revolution 1.6" that comes with his new kernel which is suppose to make battery last longer. Hope this helps.

i hope this enlightens you and yes wifi kills battery but it is not the biggest battery killer and wifi is more harmful to your battery life if it is not connected which means it is constantly searching for a network which sucks the life out of your battery.
I think the wifi modules on the new kernels (Hastarin > 8 & MDJ) are consuming too much power.
I usually got 5 ~ 8 mA in sleeping mode with my wifi turning on on the previous kernels, but now I got 8~60 mA and the battery status is showing that wifi is taking about 30% of the battery. Maybe this is because the 802.1n is enabled by default!
I know there have been many threads like this but I'm just looking for clarification as this is my first Android phone. At my house I usually get the Rogers H speed with 3/4 bars. When I browse the Internet for just an hour, 15% of the battery has been drained. Is this normal on these speeds?
I plan on leaving an IM client on 24/7 and using GPS/maps daily, so I am a bit worried because this may not last the entire day. I could switch to EDGE when I don't need it but apparently I heard that will disconnect once I start a voice call (and want to keep my IM on always). I checked my battery stats and apparently the cell standby (H) is taking most of the battery.
I am using CyanogenMod 6.1.1 with stock radio from Bell. I'm going to try to see if SetCPU makes a difference. And is there any program that can limit the HSPDA bandwidth so less battery is used? Thanks.
call *#*#4636#*#*
If you are at home or in a Wi-Fi accessible, Turn ON wifi - it uses wayyyyy less battery than the phone radio when it comes to Data....
you could get a extended battery.... Mugen Power has one for 1800 mAH and its the same size as the stock battery so no need of a bigger door.
What is your screen brightness set at? The screen is one of the top battery drain culprits. Try turning off auto-brightness, and turning the brightness down to as low as you find tolerable (depending on personal taste, and the lighting conditions in the places you use the phone the most). I recently just lowered my brightness to 35% (still plenty bright under many conditions) from 45%, and already noticing a significant improvement in batter life. Battery usage of the display dropped from over 70% to 45-50%. I haven't had the brightness set this low long enough to see how it translates to hours/days between charges, but we'll see how it goes . . ..
my battery life is retarded. probably less than yours. i swear i think i lose 1% of battery per minute of web surfing. battery is fine if you do not go on the web and have 2g on all day.
Yeah, it's pretty bad.
But that's the same for most smartphones nowadays I think...
Back to the days of game gear, the battery muncher.
6AA = 5 hours of gameplay.
I just bought some Chinese 1500maH batteries on eBay and I don't know if they're actually 1500maH. If I play with my phone a bit, I get 50% after 8 hours at work. Yikes!

Assuming the screen was on the entire time, 15% drain for an hour of web surfing sounds pretty good to me. The main battery eater while using the phone is the screen, so I doubt messing with your connectivity is going to drastically change your battery consumption in this usage scenario. Changing connectivity to Wifi or EDGE would probably help more during those times when your phone is off but your phone is still connected to the internet.
On a side note, I had terrible idle battery life when I was using CyanogenMod 6.1.1 on my Desire Z. When I was using my phone, battery life seemed normal. But when the phone was on standby, it seemed like my phone was running even when it was supposed to be on standby. I suspect it might have been SetCPU constantly polling in the background. I switched to Virtuous and didn't install SetCPU/didn't do any overclocking and my life improved literally threefold.
Any Singapore users here with rooted/custom ROM'd S2 still experiencing heavy battery drain with fairly normal usage (occasional web browsing and playing games, maybe 3-5 photos - battery dead in less than 8 hours?).
I've noticed that here in SG, my 3G signal keeps on going off and on, as if the phone is constantly trying to reconnect to a 3G signal (SingTel has been pretty bad for me, especially while walking around town). I've turned it off to 2G only and my battery seems to have improved.
Anyone else in SG have suggestions on how to improve battery life?

Im from SG dude my phone can last for 16hours with 3h-4h screen on. Its pretty decent. Change your modem. Im on LPX. Dont use FB app if you are using one. Its a huge battery drainer. Use BBS to find out what else is keeping your phone awake/draining your battery.

Hi,
I have an LG G2 (for more than 18 months) which I really like (and still can't find a compact 5-5.2" smartphone to replace it with) but it seems that lately the battery drains quite fast when having the screen on.
Brightness is set at Auto + 50%, as always. The drain seems to be around 1% per 2 minutes. Screen is reported to consume about 50% of the battery. I don't think it would last more than 1.5-2 hours untill the battery drains completely. I noticed others getting like 4-6 hours of screen time.
I performed a factory reset and things look better overall but as soon as I use the screen the accelerated battery drain starts. I am using the 30b lollipop update, phone is 100% stock, no root.
Is this considered normal ? Should I attempt to replace the battery ? Is 18 month too much for it ?
Thanks !
Turn off the wifi when you are not using it. Whenever my wifi is on and connected my battery drains like crazy.
And i am rooted with exposed and power nap.
After i turn off my wifi my battery isnt draining at all.
Cheers

Thanks, but I always thought that Wi-Fi is much less battery intensive compared to the GSM data connection...strange.
Yeah it supposed to be like that, but our driver for wifi on lollipop is garbage
I'd recommend replacing the battery as well.
A healthy battery should produce the results you see others enjoy.

Considering the total capacity of the battery, that strikes me as a bigger drop than I'd be used to, particularly with a virtually brand new battery - anyone else?

I've never owned a phone running MIUI but I understand it has pretty aggressive power management (shutting down services and relaunching them when they're needed, rather than just letting Android's power management do its thing in letting them sleep). Wondering if battery drain might be a MIUI-thang?
Does anyone have any first hand experience to improve on my rumour-based speculation?

That's a weird battery graph you have there. Even though screen was off, somehow you phone was awake non stop without a break.
Below is my battery graph. When screen is off, 99% time phone won't be awake. But I don't know much about that stuff.

The battery usage of all the apps seems to be normal but Android system has pretty high usage of about 20percent
In the image below it can be seen that that the battery drain is present only when I keep the WiFi on.

I'm also getting quite high battery drain at night (around 13%), I have really few apps installed and I tried closing all the apps in memory before going to bed. I haven't tried turning wifi off but that shouldn't be the issue in a modern phone. I hope it gets fixed in an OTA. Otherwise battery life is great.
I tried factory resetting the phone but the problem persists.Ill post the usage when I have used it for some time.
I noticed another thing that this problem is only present for specific WiFis. It works just fine for other networks and also in the networks where the problem is present there is a constant network traffic of about 20-30kbps

Don't think there's going to be any OTA for that. Only few people facing the issue. I get like 4% drain over 12 hours and I'm sure that's due to random notifications waking my phone during sleep. Thats normal.
Nobody tried BetterBatteryStats? It should show what is draining the battery.

I too have this issue, my battery drained 20% with the screen off + WiFi ON for 7 hours. My graph was almost the same as yours, even though the screen was OFF my system was awake.
Today I checked the same by turning OFF WiFi, there was only 2% drain.

0.5 percent/hour in case WIFI is off
1-2 percent/ hour if wifi is on
In case of poor network reception 2.5-3 percent/ hour with wifi turned on
2% to 5% drainage at night.
The battery drains 2% to 5% at night. Well yeah , it doesn't makes sense while the battery is 4000 mAh , I tried removing background app but still something sucks the battery. I'm new to MIUI , might be the case with this operating system or is it due to always on fingerprint sensor?? I would like to disable that feature because I am I'm love with face unlock. In last few days i am observing, my battery drained max 2-3% in any given night.
I kill all apps from recent menu before goin to sleep. I never turn off WiFi.
I feel its quite impressive for my usage. Lasts me whole day with 20-30% remaining. I get SOT of min 7hrs before battery hitting 10%.
If anyone of you facing major battery drain, try using battery saver. It turns off sync, turns off gps/location. You can even schedule it if you want.
In my case with battery saver on, my general usage is unaffected. Bettery lasts 15-20% more. I even play PUBG at full settings with bettery saver on and it doesn't drop a single frame.
