Ever since i switched over to 4.3 battery life on my Nexus 4 was horrible. I think it is because of the 0.84 latest radio. I am using Paranoid Android 3.98 with Franco r178. Overnight discharge of battery over 10 hrs in deep sleep was 25 % with data and wifi off.. And when using 3G it was quite a lot. Whilst when i was on 4.2.2 with PA and Franco it used to be 3 - 4 % over 10 hrs in deep sleep .. I switched back to 0.48 radio and battery life became awesome again. I noticed today battery over 3 hours remained constant at 88 %. I used a lot of apps over 3G . Network was weak switching on and off but still after 15 mins of apps usage it still remained at 88 %. Overnight discharge back to 3-4 %. Is the 0.84 radio messed up and is anyone else facing the same problem ?
I'd be interested to hear from others if they've experienced the same. I'm not sure what to attribute my poor battery life to, but it's something I've been suffering since using 4.3. (Asylum 4.3 nightlies with Matrix 10.5) I'd say at least 30 mins screen on time after 'upgrading' from Asylum 4.2.2 nightlies.

I haven't really experienced any huge battery drain overnight. Sometimes it doesn't even decrease by 1%. Wifi and cellular data off. I'm using PA 3.99 with Franco 182 and 0.84 radio. However, I usually only get 3-4 hours on screen time.
Stock rooted 4.3 .84 radio. Battery life is great although my phone is on WiFi or terrific HSPA+ on T-Mo in my area all the time. I dont pay too much attention to my screen on time. As long as I get from when I wake up to when I go to sleep, I consider that good battery life.
Well it also depends on your location. If the old radio works better for YOU, great, but it doesn't mean it works better for EVERYONE.
No problems here... everything stock...
No problem here with 4.3 stock with root and franco.kernel with undervolt and underclock
I went back to the .48 radio and no luck. Battery life sux for me no matter what since 4.3

84, 48, and 54 are awful. Use a hybrid radio that includes 27 or 33.

Same problem here. 5% drain an hour.
I'll try different radios when I have the time.

So im at a convention thisweekend and its been a while since I flash my rom to 3.2 freshbaked. This weekend I notice straight from 100% I was burning through most of it in 6-7 hour with out alot of usage. I took my phone out at 11:30 today and its only 4 and im already down to 36%. My battery usage shows 36% from system 22 from cell standby with 0 signal lost and 21 idle. Ill flash an updated rom when u get back.

flashed new 3.3.0 fresh and after a full charge i've left it idle for 2 hours and i've already drained 20% of the battery. That roughly 10 hours of doing nothing and my phones dead.
It could be some app you are using/installed.
I recently flashed Fresh and expierenced the same situation . My Android system was always the highest on the list . I removed apps and stripped it down , I wiped Dalvik and Cache you name it and the phone could sit idle and the Android system would be as much as cellstand by if not higher . I eventually just went back to stock Froyo with root . Android system now sits lower than cell stand by and phone idle
I'm using the newest fresh Rom with kings 9 kernel and set CPU. I never been a heavy user but I'm sitting at 19hrs and 43% I took it off the charger around 3pm Saturday and have not charged it since.

fresh 3.3, and netarchy's 4.1.9.1 fresh comp kernel, run your battery down to 3%, once there, boot into recovery, wipe your battery stats, and then reboot, once you reboot you may only get as far as the lockscreen before it shuts off, then either swap in a spare fully charged battery, or fully charge your battery with the phone turned off.
This is insane I'm currently Losing 1. 5. % a minute. Took it off 8 minutes ago and its down to 86 with 70% system usage

What is your signal like in the building? I had a similar issue when I couldn't get a good signal. The phone would last four hours just sitting on my hip.

whats the Up & Awake times?
with 22% left i unplugged it around 6 hour ago.
My Uptime is 27:13:36
Awake - 4:19:58
36% Cell Standby
30% Idle
22% System
7% display
5% voice call.
I bought a big ass battery, problem solved...
installed collins battery mod hope this works.
im using gummynex rom, with the sgs-ns-ics kernel, and the battery drain suddenly became HORRIBLE.
i've used this combo before as well (kernel is on conservative/cfq), but never experienced this kind of drain. cant remember if it happened after updating or what.
1-2 hours of screen time, phone is DEAD. android os 50%+ battery usage.
left my phone unplugged overnight, and this morning when i woke up it was sitting at 40%, and it was 100% when i started sleeping. (6hr 30mins).
i used to get atleast 15hr, should i be changing the rom or the kernel? or downgrading the rom?
wifi = always on
3g/gps/autosync = off
good signal
Mix it up, try a different kernel... if that doesn't help, try a different rom.

You're kidding right? The exact same thing happened to me today! Gummy with matrix.
Down to 8 percent in 2 hours 30 mins.
I restarted, plugged it in and everything was fine.

Could be a hardware issue too.
happened to me as well. Updated to 7.7, less problems after tinkering

Try draining your battery to 0% (until it shuts off by itself). Then, charge it (non-stop) to 100%.
I had similar problem flashed new ROM codename + matr1x kernel
And battery only last 10hrs.
I drained the battery then fully charge and used battery calibration app then drained again and full charge difference was amazing got 22hrs . I left my phone all night with wifi on when wake up 98% .
It might work for you too.

With ICS, you don't have to delete your NS' battery stats, as it resets automatically once it reaches full charge.
I am using the stock 4.0.3 rom with air kernel 3.1....the phone is working normally with 50+ hours of battery time since its unplugged and it still is sitting at 22 percent....
Hey everyone,
Standby time is probably one of the most important features in a ROM/Kernel combination and its idle time is important to me.
This is due to the fact I work most days, until evening and by the time I get home, I have a couple of hours to kill.
Which is usually food, wash and chill.
On stock, I was averaging about 2 days, with 2.5% drain an hour, on standby.
I flashed PA 2.54 and Faux kernel and HOLYCRAP am I impressed,
0.8% drain an hour on idle.
Just out of curiosity, is this a good average?
Are their better kernels for battery time than Faux, as I was going to try Motley but Faux has impressed.
What do you guys aim for in Idle time?
Thanks,
Wilks3y

Wifi off I can go 8+ hours and it still registers 100%. When my N7 is asleep, the battery usage graph is absolutely flat.
I haven't let it sit around for days at a time, but when I'm busy or doing other things, flat.

I'm using completely stock unrooted 4.2.1 and can say no, when it comes to standby battery there's basically no room for improvement. I don't have anything syncing in background (that's what my G'nex is for) and don't lose any battery during idle. I can leave it setting for several hours (as in more than 6) at a time and when I check it the most battery loss I've ever seen is 2%. And that's when the battery is below 50% already, if I start at 100 it won't move for 9+ hours of standby.

Im on PA 2.54, which is 4.1 based.
I would love to know how you guys are getting no loss through idle time?
Care to explain some tips?
thanks

Have to say the idle time is pretty stellar for me. I use the N7 for a monitor on my stedicam suit. Even with full day of monitoring once she goes to sleep I can almost anticipate 1% drop an hour.
Best settings are the airplane with 30% brightness.
When I'm rocking and rolling full brightness with monitoring HD through otg USB power is still reliable.

I had almost 12 hours of life battery with my N4 with 3-4 hours of on screen (auto-brightness) on 4.2.1
after this last update my radio is just unstable.
switching between 3G/2G and goes from 4 bar signal strength to 1 bar or 2 then goes back to 4.
and now i am getting 10 hours of life battery with 2-3 hours.
i am stock rom unrooted.
(i will try to stay unrooted as long as i can )
What happend to the radio. !???
i am now on baseband: 2.0.1700.48
Any key !?
Can't really confirm.
I'm also on stock 4.2.2 and right now I have 19% battery left with a running time of 17h and an on-screen time of 3 1/2h.
So all in all it's quite good.

I actually think the new version give better battery. Check your apps... Some poorly coded app does not work well cross os versions

i am just using whatsapp, Google+, Instagram and some browsing, That is all
Are you always in a good coverage area !?
Yeah the coverage here is quite excellent. I live in Munich.
But I have to say that I'm not using mail sync and deactivated cell broadcasts.
I am also seeing better battery life on .48 and slightly better speeds, are you using a 4.2.2 rom? if not i recommend that you do.
getting much better battery life as well ... sounds like you have a rogue app causing wakelocks
Mine is much better, too!
I have better battery life with 4.2.2 too, everything stock. I didn't go through whole recharge cycle yet, but after few hours of usage there is quite a big difference. So far so good
Sure thing that i am under 4.2.2
Ok i eill try a reset.

My radio is acting funky at times too, mostly at home. In Network Signal Info the cell keeps changing back and forth between two id's and my signal goes from -95 dB to -110 dB, basically 3 bars to 0 bars, constantly. I think I'm on the edge of two cell towers but this never happened on the old radio. This doesn't happen at work, but there I only get egde but full bars.
Thx for making it clear that i am not crazy.
That was driving me crazy.
It seems that it happens when we have bad signals and there is two towers and it keeps switching between them as you said.
So any solution ?

Nothing that I know of except to downgrade to the older radio. I downloaded a new app OpenSignal to map the towers in my area and see what towers are around me. Unfortunately I'm at work and can't try it yet at home. But it would appear I only have one tower near work and its like 3 miles away.
I should note too that my battery went from 98% at home this morning to 74% once I got to work after a 30 minute commute. It has never drained that fast, I'm usually around 88% by the time I get to work.
Ok lets make it clear,
Now i am in a village in the middle of mountains. There is only one tower, and i didn't leave the house so always connected to Wi-Fi.
I got 11hours of battery life with 4 hours screen on. And 2 hours of Viber calls and tone of whatsapp msgs. ( that's fantastic)
but when i am in the city and there is more than a cell tower my cell phone keep switching between those tower and drain significantly my battery. I get 10 hours of life battery with 2-3 hours of on screen without any viber call, and a moderate msg rate.
Which makes it a huge difference with me, and that only happens when i updated to 4.2.2
I might need a third party app that can help me to choose a cell tower ? Or something like that ?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
after the update 19 hrs 4% remaining. 5h 28 min. screen on. 45 min of calls. sync on. half the time on wifi and half on 2g data. i think this is decent battery backup.
what do you say?
I too noticed that it jumps from tower to tower periodically. i have 5 towers within 5 km radius of my home and even if there is a better signal from the tower connected it will jump to the other. is it normal?
I'm getting data drops with new update and never had before update. Wake up phone and all bars are grey including Wi-Fi bars. Never head this happen to me not once on 4.2.1. Weird

I have very bad battery life since 4.2.2. Trying to understand why that happens. I had around 3.5-4 hours SOT in 13-14 hours total usage which is very fine for me. I don't have very good reception, I know this drains battery but I'm living in same place so reception is still the same. Tried most of the roms and kernels. Flashed everything to stock 4.2.2 manually too but now the most battery life I can see is 2-2.5 hours SOT in 7-8 hours total. This is terrible compared to people at forums. Especially my screen started to eat battery too much, consumes %10 of battery in 25 mins. Even if I don't run nothing, don't use cpu, just kept cpu at 384mhz and screen on to test. I don't know much about these things but started to think 4.2.2 radio may have problem with me. Is that possible? Or what should I do? I will be really appreciate with your comments.
No. It's fine. Update the baseband if you choose to.
