[Q] Could new radio with 4.2.2 cause battery problem? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have very bad battery life since 4.2.2. Trying to understand why that happens. I had around 3.5-4 hours SOT in 13-14 hours total usage which is very fine for me. I don't have very good reception, I know this drains battery but I'm living in same place so reception is still the same. Tried most of the roms and kernels. Flashed everything to stock 4.2.2 manually too but now the most battery life I can see is 2-2.5 hours SOT in 7-8 hours total. This is terrible compared to people at forums. Especially my screen started to eat battery too much, consumes %10 of battery in 25 mins. Even if I don't run nothing, don't use cpu, just kept cpu at 384mhz and screen on to test. I don't know much about these things but started to think 4.2.2 radio may have problem with me. Is that possible? Or what should I do? I will be really appreciate with your comments.

No. It's fine. Update the baseband if you choose to.

Still having battery issues...

I rooted and flashed Fresh 2.0d about 2 weeks ago. I have flashed the Verizon radio, and if anything it made the battery life slightly worse. I was wondering if it is a consensus that people are getting worse battery life on fresh than on the stock 1.5 ROM? Today my phone died from a full charge in under 4 hours. I am expecting that I will have poor battery life due to a very bad signal, but it is far worse than the stock ROM. I am also starting to get concerned about the temperature. It has been sitting around 43C all day. I have had it plugged in for over 3 hours and it is only at 7%, which means that it is using almost all the current that can be supplied over USB. I am probably going to try DamageControl if I have time this weekend to flash it, but I like Fresh and was just checking to see what others thought. The battery use thing is saying that over 60% of my battery usage is due to cell standby and phone idle. I recently put setCpu on the phone, will that cause some of what I am seeing? All settings are onDemand with a 528 max and variable mins based on status(lower mins if lower bat or higher temp).

Trying this fix, will update tomorrow when I give it enough time for a thorough test. Thanks...
Update: It works awesome, only 10% in 2 hours at little to no signal and roaming!

My battery life is very poor

Can anybody help me? I've spent hours tweaking and tuning my phone but my battery life is still terrible. I've frozen pretty much every bloat were, disable Google apps, low screen not bright, and using custom kernel and in it. D script. Can someone plz point me in right direction to have excellent battery life?
U call this bad battery life? Are u kidding me? I'll be lucky if i get 4 hrs SOT. Worry no more cuz, u have no problem.
Just wtf... Other than that, there are numerous threads about battery life. Don't be lazy, do some searching.
I combed the forums and Google but could not find good answers. I hear some people get up to 9 hours of SOT and I feel like my battery is poor because I have difficulty achieving 7 hours.
@justinxfan
That you couldn't find them doesn't mean they don't exist.

LOL! 6 hours SoT is great, if you could hit 7 hours that's excellent.
Those who achieve 9 hours do quite a lot of things. They set everything to blackish/darker background, they undervolt the CPU and probably GPU too, then there are other battery friendly Xposed modules are being used, like Amplify, Greenify, Power Nap etc. If you want to do those many things, then go on. I absolutely have no time, and more importantly no interest in wasting hours to achieve an hour or so extra.
You are on KitKat by the way, I have never managed to get any more than 5 hours SoT on KK, have hit 6 hours on LP thogh, quite a lot of times, and even hit 7 hours few months ago, I don't even check how much SoT I am getting as an average now.
how can i get this? i am on stock rooted. removed all the samsung stuff, using greenify. but cant get more than 4 hours on screen on time

Maybe because you're in a zone where reception isn't great? Poor signal is a huge culprit for battery life. Or probably you use 3G/LTE more than you use Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi sucks battery much less than 3G. There are quite a lot of factors here, you just use the phone normally, do not install any stupid apps, you should be able to get 5 hours SoT. 4 hours isn't really that bad anyway.

yes may be the reception isnt that good, i use only 2g.
i charged my note 3 n900 afetr 58 hours and the battery was at 25% and screen on time was 3h40m
Actually I'm using jelly bean I downgraded my phone to jelly Bean from lollipop after lollipop became too much for me.
This is great battery life you get. If you still want more, either turn your phone off, or downgrade it another notch to 3310. The battery will last a whole week.

At a total loss re: battery life

I've had my Note 4 for just over a year, and over the past few months I seem to be getting really bad battery life. Today, for example, I'm at 47% with only an hour of SOT (light stuff, no gaming or GPS).
Not only is my standby time terrible (2-4% per hour), but SOT is insanely bad - when my battery reaches 30-40%, it tanks in less than an hour - the other day, I went from 56% to 12% in 25 minutes!!!!
I'm running stock firmware and kernel, greenify, frozen bloatware, etc. I recently installed Xposed + Amplify to see if that might help, but it doesn't. I'm looking at wakelocks and there isn't anything that looks suspicious. I did, at one point, install a custom kernel and underclocked it, but that made an insignificant difference.
I have two batteries, and the performance is the same, so I know it's not that. I also use my device at the lowest brightness I can - location services are disabled unless I'm driving.
I do a full wipe every time I install a new ROM.
Does anyone know what else it can be? I need the SOT to get back up to 4-6 hours.

What's your battery life?

Guys, please post your battery life screenshots. Mine is fine
Dont have screenies but my SOT is 3 and half hours . Pac rom Lp 5.1 Caf D802 .
There is already a thread about battery life where users posted their screens...anyway your screen in the first post is useless to determine battery life. Dont mean to be rude but it really is useless, because if you barely use the phone, you can reach 120h+ easily. You have to give more information. Even the screen on time is not accurate to determine battery life, because there are some users who use their phone like an e-reader and get massive amounts of screen time that are impossible to reproduce when using the phone on normal conditions. Not everyone uses the phone in the same conditions. A good way to determine it would be the screenshot like you gave, another one with the apps showing consumption, another one with screen time and a screenshot of cpu spy or any other cpu measuring app(because this will make it easy to spot how those e-readers get so much sot, usually their lowest cpu frequency is used a LOT, unlike normal users)
always 6-6.5 hours sot. can hold up to 3 days or more with light usage using Cloudyg2 2.2.
Fyi, cloudy g2 is not the reason you get 6h+ sot... unless you're significantly reducing performance and/or screen brightness. No rom can beat physics(and logic).
I average 5h sot over 2-3 days with wifi/data/sync/auto brightness on. Can easily go a week in standby if check it a few times a day. Running stock sprint lollipop with latest zvi update.
Well that's depressing....I have a battery life of maybe 4 hours with 1 to 1,5 hours of screen on time........I made a post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/help/battery-messed-t3297770.
If anybody has a suggestion I would be more than pleased. Been using the phone for +2 years. And looking at the screenshots of yours, I hadn't had that in a loooongloooong time
At full charge, plugging in earphone and listening to music or videos on youtube , i get like 3 and half and sometimes 4 hours depending on the rom. Screen is set to the lowest. I dont install much app, especially which connects to the internet silently in the backgroud. Disable location services and all too helps. At idle with wifi on and phone radio is 90% or more good signals, it lasts for about 3 or 2 and half days (depends on kernel too) . What rom you using @deereper ??Have you tried reducing google service battery drain via script and all ?
deereper, and anyone else getting under 3h sot, your battery is shot. I had similar battery performance until I replaced it. In my experience custom roms/kernels may make a very minor difference but have much worse performance and stability.
Yeah, I ordered a new battery.
I really don't want to but a new phone just for the battery.
And yes, with those battery stats it doesn't matter if you run stock or aosp
It's D802 btw, auto brightness 0%, wifi data gps always on. SOT 6-6.5hours only with continuous usage, if add in standby SOT average around 4.5-5 hours

(D800) Battery drain solution: ROM/kernel problem, or battery problem?

I'm a little confused and frustrated by this, and I'm not sure what is the correct solution.
I used to be on Cloudy G2, then I switched over to somboons stock ROM with Dorimanx. That was pretty good, especially with the kernel profiles from Dorimanx. But sometimes, lag just killed me. I got to the point where it took me 5 minutes to even edit a single snapchat. Battery life was meh: approximately 1.5 to 2 hours of screen-on-time (SOT). I put in a new battery, and it was similar.
So I switched to Dirty Unicorns 5.1.1. Performance was really good, loved the customizations and features. Idle battery drain was pretty good too (usually less than 5% loss over night), but overall SOT was same as before. Active battery drain was pretty bad. But I couldn't get weather animations to work on the lock screen, and there was no SmartStay.
Now I'm on NDM 5.5, which is a really nice looking ROM, but performance is a bit lacking. Idle battery drain was excellent (close to Dirty Unicorns), but active battery drain was horrendous. I flashed Xceed build 16, and it was the same. Xceed build 14 is a little better, but active is still ridiculous. To give a perspective: I was on reddit, on auto brightness for about 10 minutes.... and I lost 12%. Yesterday, when I unplugged, made two 10 second calls, and then let the phone sit while I ate dinner... I lost 18% in 20 minutes.
I'm at a loss at this point. I've read some posts that said to give it a few days before judging battery life, so I'll wait a bit, but I'd like to hear your thoughts. Should I try another battery switch? Is there a ROM/kernel combination that might give me better battery life? If it helps, the most common things I use my phone for are chatting, reddit, and Puzzle and Dragons.

Edit: I switched from Xceed to Dorimanx, and for whatever reason, battery drain is worse now. Here are some screenshots. This is right when I woke up, so all that battery drain was happening in my sleep. Any clues what I can do to fix? I'll probably flash another ROM later, but I'd like to know if there is something wrong with my phone or battery or something hardware related, before I go for software changes.
