My battery life is very poor - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anybody help me? I've spent hours tweaking and tuning my phone but my battery life is still terrible. I've frozen pretty much every bloat were, disable Google apps, low screen not bright, and using custom kernel and in it. D script. Can someone plz point me in right direction to have excellent battery life?

U call this bad battery life? Are u kidding me? I'll be lucky if i get 4 hrs SOT. Worry no more cuz, u have no problem.

Just wtf... Other than that, there are numerous threads about battery life. Don't be lazy, do some searching.

I combed the forums and Google but could not find good answers. I hear some people get up to 9 hours of SOT and I feel like my battery is poor because I have difficulty achieving 7 hours.

@justinxfan
That you couldn't find them doesn't mean they don't exist.

LOL! 6 hours SoT is great, if you could hit 7 hours that's excellent.
Those who achieve 9 hours do quite a lot of things. They set everything to blackish/darker background, they undervolt the CPU and probably GPU too, then there are other battery friendly Xposed modules are being used, like Amplify, Greenify, Power Nap etc. If you want to do those many things, then go on. I absolutely have no time, and more importantly no interest in wasting hours to achieve an hour or so extra.
You are on KitKat by the way, I have never managed to get any more than 5 hours SoT on KK, have hit 6 hours on LP thogh, quite a lot of times, and even hit 7 hours few months ago, I don't even check how much SoT I am getting as an average now.

how can i get this? i am on stock rooted. removed all the samsung stuff, using greenify. but cant get more than 4 hours on screen on time

Maybe because you're in a zone where reception isn't great? Poor signal is a huge culprit for battery life. Or probably you use 3G/LTE more than you use Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi sucks battery much less than 3G. There are quite a lot of factors here, you just use the phone normally, do not install any stupid apps, you should be able to get 5 hours SoT. 4 hours isn't really that bad anyway.

yes may be the reception isnt that good, i use only 2g.
i charged my note 3 n900 afetr 58 hours and the battery was at 25% and screen on time was 3h40m

Actually I'm using jelly bean I downgraded my phone to jelly Bean from lollipop after lollipop became too much for me.

This is great battery life you get. If you still want more, either turn your phone off, or downgrade it another notch to 3310. The battery will last a whole week.

Reasonable battery life expectations after Rooting

So sorry for adding to the battery life threads, but I'm pretty frustrated.
I've seen people posting screen shots with 18 hours uptime, 7 hours wake time and 50% battery on custom roms. I've seen people getting about 24 hours on a single charge.
I've had my evo 2 weeks now, and I've tried about 3 different ROMS and 4 or 5 different Kernels all of which promised LONG battery life. I'm currently running BakedSnack 1.7 with Kernel #5. My phone has been on 10 hours, 2 hours of wake time and it has only 35% left. Couple of short phone calls, 10 mins Pandora and a bit of browsing and texting here and there. I was expecting more after rooting, yet it seems almost the same as it was before I rooted.
Am I expecting too much ?
I've gone through the full discharge/recharge cycle about 4 times so far. Bad battery perhaps ?
will the phone charge get you through a day say 10 hour work day ( includes travel time )
imho your expecting to much with 10 hours in to your charge and still have 35% left is pretty damn good imho
Baked Snacks is a great rom ! its no the battery check your TWS
Depends what you are doing, some things (3d games, flash) will drain the battery faster than others.
If you are at 10 hours and 2 hours awake with 35% left, thats not too bad. You should end up around 16-17 hours with 4 hours of awake time.
If you are talking on the phone, that will drain your battery the fastest.
Make sure you completely condition your battery as well (as many posts show)

It will make it through but usually by 5pm its around 30%. I almost have to make an effort to use it sparingly though. I really like the Baked Snack Rom, its very slick probably the best I've had so far. TWS was 3% today.

Have you tried SetCPU? I have stock rooted with SetCPU (Perflock Disabler ftw) and without a signal 13-25% of the time (meaning the phone is searching for a signal), I end a 10-12 hour work day with about 45-50% left. Underclocking to 250 while the screen off has helped a lot.
This seems to be a common concern. first please remember to take everything with a grain of salt when it comes to people reporting there battery times. There are just to many factors to say ok if you use this rom and this kernel you will get 20 hours of battery life. Also many of the people reporting battery life exaggerate. sure they may ahve gotten 50 hours between charges on stock battery... but they surely didn't have moderate use ... or any real use during that no matter what they claim.
from another post it seems the majority of people in that post (with everything tweaked calibrated and set up) were getting roughly 13-18 hours of battery life out of there phone with normal use. normal being defined by actually using your phone as a phone as well as using its other capabilities. So my feeling if you are a moderate user you should expect to fall into this area as a goal. Things to help would include setCPU, making sure you turn off data when you shut off screen (or getting a program to do so for you - juicedefender) and making sure you calibrate your battery and battery stats of your phone.
it seems like you are getting close to this range however you are having to watch your use to do so. as others have said the first thing i would do is get setCPU and set up a battery saving profile. read through some of the battery threads if you havent and look for setting changes that wont impact you tremendously but will help save battery (for example if you dont use landscape mode a lot you can turn off autorotation and save some battery). If you are using froyo and are running a task killer uninstall it since it doesnt work any way. While most settings will make a small impact together they should help get you to where you can use your phone moderately through out the day with out worries.

Don't get me wrong here, the thread wasn't about me complaining, more about setting my expectations.
2 Years ago I had the first Touch Pro which would be dead by 3pm regardless of usage. At one point I had 4 batteries. I got the Touch Pro 2 a year later and it could go 2-3 days on single charge with normal usage. It was like night and day.
Granted this is a much more powerful device than either of those, but I feel like I've taken a step backwards with the battery situation.

I tried out SetCPU but the phone was slugglish for me at times and once or twice I had to reboot.
I'm probably just gonna grab an extra battery and a desktop charger so I can charge one battery while the other is in use.

Thanks alot for those tips, I'll give SetCPU another go.
I haven't tried out Juice Defender but I'll look into that as well. Turning off Data when the screen is off might be just the thing I need!

Getting terrible battery life

Smashed my phone's screen back in march and only just got it fixed the other day. One of the first things I did was upgrade to the latest purity ROM, based on 4.4.4.
I am getting terrible battery life, only about 2-2.5 hours screen on time over 12 hours and it's dead - thats mostly on wifi with about 30 mins on spotify. I have google now switched on, but location reporting off. Brightness at 50%. Hellscore kernel.
Is this a known issue or is there something up with my phone??
Thanks.

The nexus 4 is known for its terrible batterie life.
I am on cm11 and matr1x kernel and it runs for about 4 hours with 3 hours screen on time. I am surfing the internet right now, listen to music and doing whatsapp a little bit.
If you have newly flashed your rom, you should let your phone settles for a couple of days. The batterie is always worse after flashing a new rom.

not true. VERY not true. its your own setup that's destroying your battery. battery life is mainly determined by how you yourself use your device, how you ser it up, which apps you use, and very much your data/phone signal. i, personally see 5-5.5h screen on time every day, witjout disabling anything, and on lte. hows that horrible battery life? learn to set up your phone, or change your rom/kernel. the n4 is not known for horrible battery life. and battery life isnt generally worse after flashing a rom. where you get your information from is all based on speculation, not on truth.

I am sorry. It is just, compared to other devices the nexus 4 is rather under the average. I myself am very satisfied with about 4 hours screen on time. I dont know how you could even get 5 and more. So, master, if you would kindly share your wisdom with us, we would be very glad.
But lte and nexus 4? That screams after horrible battery life, but tell me your story.

I'm on L at the moment, was on 444. I've never ever heard of a battery bug in 444. the one thing that will decide the battery life of your device, that you don't have control of, is your data/phone quality. it can make a phone get great battery, or keep it at worse battery life no matter what you do. the quality can make or break battery life. also, I've found that I get much better battery life on lte as opposed to 3G/H+. with H+, I see around 4h sot no matter what, with lte I see around 5h sot. also, screen brightness can make a big
difference. I normally keep my brightness at about 25%. if I raise it to 50%, I'll get about 45 minutes to an hour less in screen on time.

Terrible Battery Life?

I've been getting godawful battery life - the phone comes off the charger at 8-9 in the morning and I am at ~10% at 3-4 in the afternoon with maybe an hour or two of screen on time. I'm running the latest build of PureNexus and EX Kernel, both of which are supposed to have better battery life. Android System is using 2-3 times more battery than everything else, depending on how long I've had my screen on. Should I switch back to stock (I really don't want to), or are one of these things in particular causing most of the problems?
What about apps??
Install WLD/BBS/GSAM to check the wakelocks..
If that doesn't help (which I think will help hehe) try performing a clean install of the rom+kernel
I have the same setup and I also get not that great of battery life. I get about 2H SOT for 12 hours of uptime. Theres no wakelocks or anything that shouldnt be happening. I just dont get good battery life. I don't even do much on my phone, I just reply to texts, listen to music, and occasionally google stuff.

It helps with many thing but primarily google now. It enables approx location for searches by scaning for wifi and/or bluetooth signal which is used to determine locarion. and also helps with smart lock I believe. Although that shouldn't drain that much battery.

The reality is... By only doing small and short tasks at a time, it uses more battery. Stopping and starting lots is a lot less efficient than constant running. I am able to get about 4 hours SOT if I do small tasks, nothing prolonged, but if I stream films or longer stuff, I get 5.5-6 hours SOT. It may be worth you looking at one of the scripts for the EX kernel governors, as one of them optimises battery life for users that don't have heavy usage. Do a quick forum search for it, it is worth a try!
The most important thing is to not focus on whatever figure you get for your SOT, as long as the battery lasts long enough between chargers that it is 1) better than your previous device and 2) good enough that it does not run flat between charges, then there is no real issue. People tend to focus on SOT as a defining factor of battery life, when it isn't the only thing to focus on!!
Hope this helps somehow.
Check to see what is syncing for your Google account. I had a ton of crap syncing that I don't even use. I restricted it just to mail, contacts and apps. Also, lock WiFi on to 2.4ghz instead of automatic. Turn off automatically scan for new networks.
Yeah I realize the thing about SOT. I was just giving it a number. Honestly the battery life just doesn't impress me. I wish it lasted until I went to bed, not just when I got home.

It is possible. I started off with diabolical battery life, but now I get through the day with ease. My only issue now is standby time, it is lacking a bit...

Battery life, Screen on Time always = 3 hrs

Hi everyone,
I have got my Oneplus Two ever since last September. It is a great phone overall. However, one thing that's bugging me is the battery life. I admit I am a relatively heavy user, but I can only squeeze out about 3 hours of screen on time out of it.
I thought earlier, maybe it is the problem of Oxygen OS (it overheats like hell as well). Then I switched to CM13 roms. CM13 does not overheat at all and is smooth all the time. But the battery performance is still not ideal. I would say it's probably just 10% better than OOS..
Any ideas on this? I don't care about warranty and I am an engineer .. should I maybe try to replace the battery? I suspect the battery is dodgy after lots of overheating in the OOS..
Thanks for advice!! Cheers.
3 hours heavy use is pretty standard for the phone. The phone doesn't let the battery get to dangerous temps so I don't think that's the thing. Android has always had kinda poor battery life at least when it comes to standby times. I'm on Seraphs CM13 and it seems to have a decent power consumption, maybe give it a try?

Thanks! I will try it out!
As Kirahvi said 3hrs are, more or less, normal for OOS 2.2.1 stock.. Now I'm using stock rom with boeffla (which allow underclock), Amplify and greenify.. and my SoT is about 5.30hrs!
3 hours is also the max I've ever gotten, though its usually a little less than that for me. I am a heavy user of my smartphones while I'm commuting on the train, because I have music on + constant screen on while surfing the web/facebook/twitter. And while I'm at work I have bluetooth connection to my Huawei watch to receive notifications throughout the day. Nowhere near the folks who managed to squeeze 4hrs - 6hrs SOT daily but overall still reasonable.
Battery life for me is the same on OOS and CM13. Standby time on marshmallow is a little better with the introduction of Doze, though it only works if your device is left stationary for a period of time.
I'd also like to point out that battery life is the same for me with or without the Facebook/FB Messenger app. Thats why I left them installed.
I got 4 hours if I tweaked the heck out of thing, reduced brightness and just managed power ad much as possible, but more often then not I was at 3.5 or less. I am using the Hydrogen beta and I get 4.5 without any effort and have even hit 5. You might try that too, I have tried ALL the CM13 ROMs it feels like, in fact I keep a backup of Seraphs nightlys as I like it so much better than hydrogen, but by far hydrogen gets the best battery life...and its not close.

More than 4 hours is just because people read a lot on their phone, 6+ hours I think you can easily reach that lowering the brightness, under clocking, never turn off screen and just let phone idle don't even touch screen never

Guys, what lot of people not really undarstanding,SOT its not really show you how is the battery, lot of else is playing in the background which is affecting your battery.
for example:
-celluar coverage(if you got less the perfect conennection its gonna drain your bettery, and no its doesnt matter how big city you living, more people, more house ,less coverage
-wifi (same as above, how good and stable your connection,as less the drain)
-kind of apps(which is more frequently sync, and connecting with gps ,those use more battery)
-How long is the phone without the charger(yes if you pull off the charger and living on the table always screen on ,using a bit and after 4h you uploding the stat,is it the same?? NO!)
Im living in central London with bad coverage, bad wifi connection all around, and from 9am till 1am I got around 3h SOT,which I think not bad with these condition.
So guys dont compare each other SOT ,couse every connections and condition is different.

Share Battery life and performance

Guys please post you battery life and brenchmerks on nougut and marshmallow so that we can decide which one is better. Some people experiencing poor battery life in nougut. Share screenshot of battery stat and gsm battery monitor and other battery monitoring app. And sorry for bad english.
My rom is stock nougut. Cell standby 2 percent. Phone idle 3 percent. Screen 14 percent.
Screenshot is bellow.
No screenshot on my side but for me the Nougat update has revived the phone: much better battery life (+1h SOT I would say), run cooler, less stutters, smooth scrolling in chrome, fast wifi connection and all the nougat advantages. I haven't seen bugs apart from the system UI tuner that resets itself.
I am running 100% stock, took the OTA when it was offered to me and made a factory reset.

I'll try to remember next week, I switch back to my S7 for the weekend.
Getting almost 4 hours of SOT on my 8 months old device.
My device is 14 months old and I use dual sim cards, mostly I'm on WiFi.
I get 1.5-3 hours of SOT generally. I generally have to charge my phone 3 times a day.
Stock nougat
Only using WiFi
Mostly browsing and videos on YouTube.
Getting 4 to 4.5 hours of sot.

I have 2hr SOT. VERY POOR. NEED TO CHARGE 3 TIMES A DAY
Here are my screenshots. I was mostly on WiFi during the day, did a lot of reading/browsing, a little YouTube, and gamed for around 30 minutes. Before I would have needed to recharge mid-afternoon and was getting 2:30/3h max SOT a day.
I'm extremely pleased with the update.
After doing a heavy tweaking of the phone without root i managed to get more than 5 hour of SoT. After that i was getting an unaceptable 3hs SoT.
