What are all the cool things you can do

Once you root your phone.. I'm newly rooted and would like to start playing. I've flashed a few roms so I got that part down, but what apps or programs or tricks are cool on a rooted nexus one?

That's the number one response I hate... search... lmaooo.
Trust me I'd rather do that then wait for someone to answer with a smart ass answer like that..
Oh and I'm doing this from my phone and the search is being weird..

There is, I'm using it, and it's way past beta.
Search the forums, there's a thread about it, and on a last page some nice dude posted a link to a post-beta Swype for N1. It's 100% working for me.

Oh trust me, its better that I've said than the 1000 other people who are/were going to say it. I thought to myself "I'm never going to be the one who tells others to search", but because even I have seen the question asked so many times.. guess it was one of the things that I thought should've been done first.

Themes, overclocking, extra RAM, deleting system apps, installing root required apps (such as Nexus Tourch) trackball colors, updates before everyone else (extra RAM, etc.), installing different Android Phones per-se (Desire).. lots of stuff ;/

For me, one of the best things after rooting is actually wifi tethering.

New to the X10 - suggestions?

My buddy just got an X10 - I'm very familiar with other android phones, but this one seems a little unique. I also noticed he is running 1.6.
What suggestions would you guys make?
Root possible? If so, what is the best method and custom ROM?
Are there plans for 2.1+ in the near future?
Any must have apps?
What are the safe apps to remove if root is possible?
You guys get the idea.. sorry for not browsing too much, but I can't learn a new phone in such a short period, especially when it's not mine.

yes, use oneclick.apk (for root)
we are all waiting for 2.1 these days(and last months)
estrongs file explorer, app manager, sec manager++ rock player, unifyed remote, at least
Edit: but guess you already knew that, oneclick is root/unroot, in guess what.. One click ;D

Trust me, read some of my posts for the phones I do own, and you will see I acknowledge how bad it is to post without researching, but I also admitted this is not my phone and do not want to put too much energy into it.
XDA is full of people willing to help, and you guys know this phone better than I ever will. My buddy could use some help...

Tell your friend to sign up here then and read the forum, that way people might put a bit more energy in to helping.

Members in this section don't like to go over what's already been gone over many times before, especially when you've stated "read some of my posts for the phones I do own, and you will see I acknowledge how bad it is to post without researching" but then do so anyway.
If your friend joins, reads, then asks questions on the numerous threads which answer what you asked then people will be more than happy to help.

I just started on this site within the last few weeks, and everything you need to know could have been answered with about ten min of reading, less time than it took to post your questions and wait for replies

Whatever you do, if you root, don't delete system apps. (IE: Timescape, Mediascape, Dialer, Browser).

Glorious - Blackhole 4.2

Hello everyone...
I want so badly to be able to post in teh Dev section to thank people for their work, but I do not have enough posts to do so...
I am a lurker - new to the Android world and loving every second of it... I generally do not believe in superfluous posts, but I need to simply reach 10 so I can thank people for their hard work and assist anyone running into issues that I also hit...
That said, I wanted to let you all know that I installed Blackhole 4.2 yesterday and it is wonderful. So as soon as it drops on here, consider it. I am using the phone that I have always wanted - and I am sure it will stay exactly the way it is for at least a week or two... until the next big exciting change gets made.
I truley never thought I would enjoy tinkering with a phone, modding bits and pieces of it so much... Sure, I have been modding cars for years, but now a phone... I am hooked and I want to thank this community for the wealth of info that we find in here and the good attitudes that go along with it...

Yep Blackhole is the heat. I was going to start a new thread until I searched..lol but Im gonna give Blackhole (sonofskywalker3) and Super Dark (thatdudebutch) a huge shoutout. I've been using this combo from the beginning and have no reason to change up. Do yourself a favor and give it a try when it drops!!

Are you a VIP? I don't see the rom anywhere, so you must have the VIP privilege to download it before everyone else.

Its available now. Check development section and/or rom manager.

After doing some searching around I see now what this VIP stuff is all about.

I don't know about anyone else, but every time I try to use search it tells me that search is currently not available and to try again in 20 to 30 minutes.

I've quit using search for the most part. This board's search feature is down half the time, and requires time between searches the other half.
Instead, I actually start a new thread. For a thread topic, I enter search terms and hit tab, and then the board gives me four threads with those keywords already started somewhere else.
Sure, it doesn't offer the same granularity as the regular search, but it's more convenient for me.

The hboot is the bootloader, really no need to update it.
The NV file goes along with the PRI update, I believe.

So I should probably update my nv file too then.

[Q] stopping EL30 OTA update & reminder

I am running cleanGB 1.0.3.
How to I eliminate the notification to update to EL30? My phone wants to do an OTA update.
I feel stupid, but I don't see where to disable this.

1. try to let it install. the phone will reboot with an error.
2. at that point pull the battery, put it back in and restart the phone.
you should not get prompted again.

Also read one of the other 10 threads instead of starting a new one. Thanks.

AH! That explains it. That search sucks. Pretty much all hot topics are usually in the first 10-15 threads in General. Then it leaks a little over to Q&A. I came home a little grouchy from work, sorry.
