Once you root your phone.. I'm newly rooted and would like to start playing. I've flashed a few roms so I got that part down, but what apps or programs or tricks are cool on a rooted nexus one?
WHAT YALL DO WITH YOUR ROOTED N1.
Here's one cool thing, its called..
Searching ^.^
I don't wanna start a new thread for another question, but Is there a swype type keyboard for android.? I swear I saw one before but can find it...

I did. Thanks bro. Search here and ppcgeeks sucks...
That's the number one response I hate... search... lmaooo.
Trust me I'd rather do that then wait for someone to answer with a smart ass answer like that..
Oh and I'm doing this from my phone and the search is being weird..

There is, I'm using it, and it's way past beta.
Search the forums, there's a thread about it, and on a last page some nice dude posted a link to a post-beta Swype for N1. It's 100% working for me.

Oh trust me, its better that I've said than the 1000 other people who are/were going to say it. I thought to myself "I'm never going to be the one who tells others to search", but because even I have seen the question asked so many times.. guess it was one of the things that I thought should've been done first.

Themes, overclocking, extra RAM, deleting system apps, installing root required apps (such as Nexus Tourch) trackball colors, updates before everyone else (extra RAM, etc.), installing different Android Phones per-se (Desire).. lots of stuff ;/
For me, one of the best things after rooting is actually wifi tethering.

My Nexus One will be here tomorrow, and I am wondering what the Pro's and Con's of rooting are.
I've rooted before. I had a G1, but I bricked it, accidentally. Won't stop me from rooting the Nexus, but just give me some reasons why.
I obviously know about cooked roms, etc. I've read about the Desire rom with Sense UI, is it worth it?
Just want your input.
The "search" function of the forums is a great feature. I've seen several threads about this very subject already.
Its definitely worth it! I enjoyed the phone stock, but when i rooted and went with cyanogen 5053. I couldnt happier. I thought the phone was fast already, but with the ROM, its a step above!
And plus some apps from the market are only for rooted phones. SetCPU (underclocking app) is one of them, and has helped me out with battery life. moderate use, i got about 18 hours yesterday with still 35% left on the battery.

Its great how we have members that spam other members topics with unuseful replys just to get there post count up.
This is exactly why I don't post alot.
@stuff: I rooted my n1 and flashed cyanogen 5053 and gotta say it's alot faster! If your the kind of guy that gets alot of apps and games like me there is another feature of rooted phones called apps2sd. Apps2sd allows you to set a partition size of your choosing on your sd card for use of storing installed apps and games. That way you are not limited to the internal phone memory. Also as h2opoloplyr_11 stated there are some apps that require your phone to be rooted. Thats all I can think of right now as I am new to android and the n1 but I'm sure there are more reasons and more reasons to come as devs get creative.

It has nothing to do with getting our post counts up and everything to do with having a clean, uncluttered and efficient forum. No one likes to see the same questions asked every few days. The point of a forum is for it to serve as a repository of information to help and educate future enthusiasts. This guy isn't special and somehow entitled to create another redundant thread instead of using the search function like the rest of us do.. Not to mention he said in his original post that he rooted his G1.

Why the hell isn't there an official stickied topic listing the pros and cons of rooting your device. The first thing people would see before they go asking repeated questions would be that thread.
Good question...the info was stickies in the G1 forum..probably still is.

Which is why the op's question should have either been answered or his topic reported. What could have been very simple has turned to a two page topic with only a few post that actually answer the question and it's not because of the op. It's because of all the other post within the topic that are completely of topic including this one.

Every time someone asks THIS question. It's about 10 pages of people giving different great benefits. What difference is 2 pages telling the guy to Lrn2Surch
If someone is too lazy to SEARCH for benefits. Who would ever expect them to accomplish rooting, and the various benefits without further questions that have been seen 100's of times.
It seems like I've seen this topic before.
everyone whos asking for these .cabs for swype, facebook tabs for sense and so on should take a trip over to the ROM Development forum. most of the things people are asking for in these posts are already cooked into the roms. they tend to run a lot better than the stock roms and have updates coming out on a weekly basis. my personal favorite is the Energy series hence my signature but i suggest that you guys check all of them out you never know what youll like.
Not everyone likes to flash roms , and not all roms have every little cab you require in them, hence asking for them and theres no central place for them all either
And unless im mistaken, i also use an energy rom, but swype is not built into that!
Yes, but all people would have to do is search. I have also seen a lot of posts requesting it.. and if people would take a look at the stickied thread they'll find it in the second post.

Asking for, or posting links or files for Swype is now considered warez on XDA. Do a search elsewhere as it now earns you vacation time from the mods.
Hi guys,
There is an arrow icon to the left of my 3G icon, and I was wondering if anyone knew what it was? it shows two white arrows forming a loop but I can't find it in the manual.
Can someone let me know?
Thanks!
That's the sync service running (GMail, Contacts, Calendar, etc).
If it keeps running forever, you might have an issue, but it should pop up from time to time.
It was running forever and I realized it was failing to synch, a data reset fixed.

Exactly, I had assumed it would use normal data signal for that. Plus I hadn't really seen it before because normally its on and then off, but in this case mine got stuck, thats all. Thanks guys.
I wonder if it would violate guidelines to report a post like that.
Completely unhelpful, and ultimately detrimental to the community as a whole.
Sure there's no profanity, warez, or otherwise problematic material, but it's definitely something that shouldn't be here.

Gingerbread roms right around the corner, alot of updates coming out haha
There is a GAPPS update posted in the N1 forum that has it, it comes with some extra junk including ROM manager in the sys/app folder and a few N1 updates but it flashed and works fine on my Evo.

FYI - that is NOT a market apk, it is tiny gapps, and a lot of people have had problems, since it actually replaces the current gapps you have and you end up with less gapps after the flash, read more. There IS a flashable full gapps package in jaybob413's rom OP.

right on, I was really directing that "NOT a market" comment to the OP, since he may not know the difference. Weird that you didn't lose any gapps, I did.... Whatever. dang! i havent posted a new thread in awhile so i guess i missed that. im gonna do a test... im gonna make a new thread(not submit it though) and make the topic "new market" and see what happens lol it actually pisses me off seeing all these threads being posted over and over again. i understand that it can be a pain to search, you could possibly end up searching for hours. and if you do make a thread without searching first then stop and think to yourself...."do i really want to make a thread without searching first and possibly get yelled at and made fun of?" think about that before you make a new thread that has probably been posted before without searching. and please people... stop posting apps or question about apps or anything that isnt a rom in the "android development thread".....whew! glad to get that off my chest lol
