Broken LCD - Sent to Samsung - (Questions) - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I recently dropped my phone on its back while it was had a ZeroLemon battery with the provided case attached.
When I picked it up, there was no physical signs of damage.
However, when I turn on the screen, it is blank, with random colors.
I sent it into Samsung as it is still under warranty.
I'm hoping they can repair it for free as there is no sign of physical damage.
They said they received it, and will repair it, but charge me if they find any physical damage.
I provided them no payment information, so how would they charge me?
Do you think they will see physical damage?
Also, how much would it cost for them to repair it?
Thanks everyone in advance.

Oh theyll charge you if you want a fixed device. They'll If glad return it to you with your broken lcd if you opt not to pay when they notify you but chances are they won't charge you. Same happened to my att skyrocket when I dropped it and colors became mixed.

Should I Bother Trying HC for Repair?

Ok So I sent my HC H2 off under warranty to HC as I had lots of white marks on the screen display when surfing the net. They didn't repair it and said it would cost £198 to fix even though apart from seeing the spots mainly only a white back ground the phone was actaully in perfect working order and it cost me £20 to get it back. Now the ouchscreen has gone just suddenly and am debating on sending it back again. Now the postive thoughts from me is that if it is under warranty then they surely have to fix me phone for free. But my negative thoughts are they will just try to charge me for the repair or charge me £20 just to get my phone back. What would you do?
I get get the unit to turn on I can take calls using the buttons on the bottom but cannot use the touchscreen so can#t unlock it or do anything else with it. The phone is perfect never been near water and never been dropped.
Did you forget to remove hspl and return it to stock before you sent it to them? That voids warranty and makes the repair chargeable.
Yes sorry forgot to mention that I had indeed removed it and put the stock raido rom and removed HSPL. I assumed that the white marks were deemed as cosmetic but i will never know as I didn't get a report just an email with a link saying pay £198 for a repair or £20 to have it sent back unrepaired. I think if they don't fix it this time under warranty I will take them to the small claims court if needed.
hmm, could be water marks? is the water damage indicator red or white? if its even slightly pink, they wont cover it. Best of luck arguing your case.
water damage indicator red or white? It's never been near water opened the back can see a white circle looking sticker near top left if thats it?
There are 2 water markers i understand, and regardless of how close the phone may have been, it they says its water damage there is no movement from HTC on this
Sadly your best bet would have been to get full details of the issue before it was sent back. I suspect that it wil;l cost you the £200 to get it repaired.
You could replace it yourself for much less - if you have the skills as it not easy to do imho, or try the repair company's that advertise in the Sunday papers.
If it was mine, I'd have paid the first time
If you are good at following instructions, then you could probably replace the touchscreen and get it working. There's several disassembly videos on YouTube. Beware, the HD2 is a beast to take apart. There's several fragile ribbon cables that are extremely easy to tear, and many XDA users have made their phones worst off trying this. I mean, you could almost get a good condition HD2 for the 200 pounds HTC is trying to charge you.
Well it's good news, After 10 days of not hearing anything had a call to sall repair is being done under warranty and as a good will gesture of the delay they are going to email a link for all the accessories available for the phone that they sell and I can have anything up to the value of £50! I am well happy and this has restored my faith in HTC
Thats good news :0
The delays in UK HTC repairs have been up to 6 weeks and have been reported by the bbc

Screen cracked, way to disable digitizer?

Bought a cable so we can use a mouse. Problem is the screen is still registering some information from the broken digitizer so as my wife says "It is acting crazy"
From what I hear ASUS is not to supportive of cracked screens so i have resigned myself that it will not get fixed, and fixing it myself is to expensive. ($140 for the replacement part).
So in order to make the best with what we got, is it possible to disable the digitiser interface? I assume I will need root. (not currently rooted, wife's device)
IMO, dont think thats possible?
but if the digitizer is still registering touches, then you gotta find where the pressure points are and try to lift them a bit higher? dont know if that might make sense to you or not lol.
and yeah, ASUS charges an arm and a leg for repairing a cracked screen($165+tax if you live in certain states+shipping charges back to you)

Is it really $140 for the part?
I did a search on eBay and saw some screen replacement part for around $60

Ordering a replacement for a cracked screen?

I just cracked my phone and i haven't even had it for 2 weeks. The phone isn't even responding anymore only the left side of the screen is responsive. Has anybody else tried to send their cracked screen in and not get charged?

So you want to extort money from LG?
It costs around 140 to fix through LG repair centers...

Do the lg repair as it is cheaper than buying a screen kit... 140 vs 220 is a no brainer. Just make sure they actually do everything right. They didn't even replace my screen (granted it wasn't cracked) and they forgot to put the torx screws back in as well. I had to get a supervisor on the phone to fix the situation. They were at least able to fix the situation by sending me the two screws, but its been about a week on a 9 day wait for the stuff to arrive.

[Q] dead screen area after water damage

Hello, looking for advice on what to do -
my nexus 4 dropped into water and now the lower ~1.5 cm of the screen doesn't respond (including the navigation keys).
other than that all is fine - connectivity, charging, internet, calls, etc.
Will opening it help ?
replace the screen ?
replace mother board?
many thanks
gilad
Get it to service Centre for quality replacement. There is a way to open up and replace LCD digitizer for rectifying the display. However the damage as to the level of Penetration inside the phone is not known. If your phone is dropped into the water, put in a dry place and let it dry. Don't even switch on. Control the urge to check if it's working. Don't switch on up to 48hrs. Don't shake as it may damage more.

thank you belictony.
if I wanted to fix it myself - would it be easier (and safer, though more expensive) to replace glass+digitizer+lcd instead of only digitizer ?
There are LCD assembly for sale. Its not safer and easier to replace it yourself unless you have knowledge about it. Even if you know about it, there is no assurance as to whether the device will work or not. Get it to service center or buy a new phone. The service center personnel will probably charge around 200-300 depending upon the condition. You can rather buy a nexus 5 or some other phone.

[Q] Screen replacement issue...

So I dropped my phone over the weekend and only half of the screen is working. I took it into a local repair guy who comes highly recommended and has excellent reviews.
He tried replacing the entire screen component with two different replacements and there was white banding/lines down the screen both times. He thinks his replacement parts were defective and that the issue has nothing to do with the phone, as there are no white lines with the stock cracked screen.
I'm rooted on cloudy stock and wondering if that has anything at all to do with those lines? For some reason i feel like I remember hearing about this issue on the occasional custom ROM.
Hes getting more in tomorrow and will try again and let me know.
Does anyone have any idea?
Thanks.

The digitizer might be broken. If that's the case, you're better off getting a replacement as digitizers can cost about $300-$500.

Oh wow, it dropped significantly since the last time I checked. Regardless, that could be part of the issue. She you say you replaced the whole screen component, are you talking about the digitizer as well?
