Ordering a replacement for a cracked screen? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just cracked my phone and i haven't even had it for 2 weeks. The phone isn't even responding anymore only the left side of the screen is responsive. Has anybody else tried to send their cracked screen in and not get charged?

So you want to extort money from LG?
It costs around 140 to fix through LG repair centers...

Do the lg repair as it is cheaper than buying a screen kit... 140 vs 220 is a no brainer. Just make sure they actually do everything right. They didn't even replace my screen (granted it wasn't cracked) and they forgot to put the torx screws back in as well. I had to get a supervisor on the phone to fix the situation. They were at least able to fix the situation by sending me the two screws, but its been about a week on a 9 day wait for the stuff to arrive.

Help.. URGENT help.. I cracked my screen.

So my Nexus had the screen lift.. I was just curious, and wanted to see the back of it.
Took the back cover off, no problem. I didn't really do anything except look around. When I wanted to pop the back cover back in, I had trouble with one corner.. it just wouldn't pop in. So i pushed that corner a bit (I swear I didn't really use that much strength) but I turned the device around and saw the corner of the glass was cracked. It didn't reach the pixeled part of the screen, it was only at the black border.
So I thought- ah.. oh well it was my fault. I was pissed.. but who was I to blame right? I'll just live with it.
Here comes the problem.. I pushed the Power button, the lock screen came on as usual. However, it seems to have absolutely no response to my touches at all. I tried touching every single corner... NOTHING.
There is absolutely nothing I can do with this device right now.. Except 1. power it on, 2. take a screen shot.
Can anyone tell me what to do now? I've taken the device out of the states. The country I am in do have Asus office. I know the warranty probably does not cover this. I would be willing to pay for a new screen- but does anything know how much it will cost?
Sigh.. any help/comment would be nice. I'm totally devastated right now. I know it's my fault for not being careful. But I am able to go traveling next week, and was looking forward to reading books on it etc.
If it were me, I'd send it back and get a replacement since it had screen lift and that was the only reason you opened it...

Well I'm not in the U.S, and won't be anytime soon. My friend bought it over for me. Tomorrow I will call the local Asus office and ask them about it.
In the meanwhile I might just buy the micro-USB to USB cable, and use a mouse to control it. Although That will look ridiculous as I'll have to find a flat surface to use the mouse everytime. Is there some other USB controller I can use to control the screen?
Also I don't really know much about digitizers.. once you crack one corner, does it mean the entire thing is not usable anymore?
I had very small screen lift issue. Barely noticeable. But with this official nexus 7 cover seems to keep it down

The touch panel is fused to the glass so if it breaks you're out of luck sorry

does that mean if I want to get a replacement I'll have to pay for LCD+digitizer? :crying:
It'll probably cost more than $100 right...

Screen cracked, way to disable digitizer?

Bought a cable so we can use a mouse. Problem is the screen is still registering some information from the broken digitizer so as my wife says "It is acting crazy"
From what I hear ASUS is not to supportive of cracked screens so i have resigned myself that it will not get fixed, and fixing it myself is to expensive. ($140 for the replacement part).
So in order to make the best with what we got, is it possible to disable the digitiser interface? I assume I will need root. (not currently rooted, wife's device)
IMO, dont think thats possible?
but if the digitizer is still registering touches, then you gotta find where the pressure points are and try to lift them a bit higher? dont know if that might make sense to you or not lol.
and yeah, ASUS charges an arm and a leg for repairing a cracked screen($165+tax if you live in certain states+shipping charges back to you)

Crack open your device and disconnect the digitiser cable from the motherboard

Nexus 4 replace screen (versions?)

Whats up guys this is what happen to my girlfriend's nexus 4, she dropped it and crack the screen, I went to a repair shop and they told me that they can't replace it because her nexus 4 have a screen "type 2"?? And the one that they have is "type 1"... Is that possible or they just don't know what they are talking about? I was surprised cuz I though it was only 1 kind of nexus 4
Sorry if my grammar is not good, this isn't my language

Sounds quite strange, as far as I know there is only one type of screen. Plus I would suggest repairing your self instead of the shop. They tried to charge $200 at my local phone repair when I replaced the screen for $90 my self. The repair is very simple so don't worry if you are not big in technology

My phone (manuf. May/2013) broke, I had to replace the main board with an older model. It was from late 2012/early 2013 iirc. Fit perfectly, the connectors are identical, the only difference was double-sided tape holding in the camera on the newer one and that didn't affect screen replacement.
One thing worth mentioning: the digitizer pattern is highly visible on the newer phone, but invisible on the older one. So there might be two screen parts but I'll bet they both work.

Broken screen - what to do?

I was out running today and had the phone i my pocket. When I stopped to switch song I saw that the screen had gotten a large crack. The phone itself was lying nice in my pocket without anything else. The touch is not working at all anymore, so the phone is not usable.
Is there any way to fix this?
I have a cell phone repair shop in California. I've fixed a few oppo find 5 for customers. I charge 185$ which includes the part and Labor. If you are interested let me know. You can always mail it in and I'll send it back when done. I'm top rated seller on ebay. So your safe

[Q] Screen replacement issue...

So I dropped my phone over the weekend and only half of the screen is working. I took it into a local repair guy who comes highly recommended and has excellent reviews.
He tried replacing the entire screen component with two different replacements and there was white banding/lines down the screen both times. He thinks his replacement parts were defective and that the issue has nothing to do with the phone, as there are no white lines with the stock cracked screen.
I'm rooted on cloudy stock and wondering if that has anything at all to do with those lines? For some reason i feel like I remember hearing about this issue on the occasional custom ROM.
Hes getting more in tomorrow and will try again and let me know.
Does anyone have any idea?
Thanks.

The digitizer might be broken. If that's the case, you're better off getting a replacement as digitizers can cost about $300-$500.

Oh wow, it dropped significantly since the last time I checked. Regardless, that could be part of the issue. She you say you replaced the whole screen component, are you talking about the digitizer as well?
