[Q] Bricked a500. Having trouble finding recovery image. - Acer Iconia A500

I have bricked my a500.
I had to go through Ubuntu as per
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751978
and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23783875&postcount=9
This lifesaving tool got me my SBK as the Vache site and many others are all down.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810618
I had followed some instructions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1585907 and tried to use the Acer ICONIA TAB Software Update Utility (dotnetdetector.exe runs it in the instructions on that page) to recover the tablet, but sadly that software cuts out and tells me it is sorry that the upgrade process failed.
I have A500APXflash, but I am having a b*tch of a time finding .a500apx files for it for TWRP preferably (2.6 or at least 2.5 something). Once again, every since site that says they have a suitable file seems to be offline... it's very frustrating...
My Tablet is stuck in APX mode.
Anybody have a good working .a500apx recovery image?
Barring that, anybody have a good working bootloader.bin and kernel.img for the "choose files myself" option?
Also since people are having difficulty keeping sites up and running, I suggest uploading the files to places that are reliable (mega.co.nz seems reliable). I would gladly contribute space on my stable but otherwise pathetic website to something as worthwhile as a list/links to tools and recovery images.

k it sorta depends on how you bricked in the first place....
Do u really, really need to use TWRP??? when you're bricked it seems cwm 1.7.3 works best...you can update to a twrp via flashable zip once you're up and running again....
To get out of apx mode...try this
power down and put yr tab in apx mode manually, this sometimes helps
otherwise its a matter of running the tools UNTIL it finally works.
Most all of the tools require your tab to be in apx mode before flashing the bootloader....you can try using the manual method too...links are in first 3 posts of the root guide in my sig.
also check device manager on yr pc when connected to your tab...is the apx driver showing there??? If its not then uninstall the drivers and reinstall and try again

I have most of the files online at mediafire (wouldnt go near kim dotcoms nz mega site, but thats a personal choice)- unfortunately none of the .apx500 for twrp, let me have a look on my pc just in case...
EDIT<<<<< when using apxflash tool - is there not a twrp image in the bundle market???

Hm... yes the Bundle market... slipped past me. I did not notice the darn thing.
A few questions.
Is Thor the same as CWM? I see thor recovery also has version 1.7.3
I don't see CWM listed anywhere there.
I get an error when trying to select any package at all. (The first time I tried I had gotten a different message and the APX utility crashed, subsequently it provides this error. I have cleared my cache but to no avail.)
---------------------------
XML Parse Error
---------------------------
Oh dear! Something strange happened when downloading. The exact error was:
Could not find file 'C:\Users\thenderson\AppData\Local\Temp\A500APXFlashTool\tempbundle.a500apx'.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
Which links do you have to these a500apx files??
All I really wanted was a nice rooted stock copy of ICS or preferably Jellybean. Something I could tweak on a basic level just to stop apps from running their services and have a nice consistent framerate.
My Tablet was originally running Honeycomb.
Edit:
Actually it crashed the first time while dumping the BCT during the "staging and backing up BCT" stage.
I downloaded a copy of V8-Thor_1.7.3_recovery.a500apx uploaded by Civato to Dev Host and it seems to do the same thing... Here is the error.

I went Screw it and used the default.
Now it loads to Skrillax_CZ's bootloader V8... uh, not sure what to do from here. I'm such an android noob this way.
What do you recommend for update.zip and for the stable OS build? As I mentioned, I would like ICS but would even moreso prefer Jellybean.

XDA-Developer DOES not work, why?

I have a SX56 and the carrier is AT&T USA. The following is the device information:
Rom Version: A.20.17 ENG
Radio Version: A.20.10
I needed to unlock this phone so I could switch carriers to T-Mobile, the rest is a waste of time, the following is what I have expereinced:
1- I read about a dozen articles in the forum with different problems, so that I get the hang of things before even I proceeded with anything
2- I then read the material under XDA-developer and downloaded two files:
-- XDAunlock.exe which does not expand, the error message from XP pro is as follows:XDAunlock.exe is not a valid win32 application!
-- XDA-developers-SER-v12.exe; I executed this file, it established a connection through my USB cradle and proceeded to upload the new image.....!!!!
This is where things are stock; the message on the screen is Loading while the commiunications has stopped. So here is what I did:
1- Back to the forum and found a document on the similar problem, I tried the Softreset+On button and I do get GSM ok an Versin 5.15, My screen is distorted with line going through it, just like the article that I found
2- Downloaded XDAtools-jeff.exe to see how I can rebuild this bootloader on the SX56, epanded the contents and run:
pnewbootloader.exe bl515.nb0 in a dos window, the window is non-responsive.
Bottom-line: The Sx56 has lost communications with the PC, its screen is frozen while updating and is totaly distorted. Is there help avaiable on this site is with instruction that I could follow if any!!!
Where do I go from here? Please help.
Thanks

"Not a proper pocket pc application."

As I seem to have problems getting any of I attempt to download to actually work, I went to the MYXDA.COM site.
They had a link for the following PictPocket Cinema 2.7 movie player:
http://www.pdastreet.com/software/pdas/PictPocket-Cinema-2002-6-10-pdastreet-pdas.html
Unfortunately I received the following (and usual) error message:
"Not a proper pocket pc application."
I also got this with EVERY VERSION of the fax software that has been listed on this forum.
What am I doing wrong?
Provider: Orange
Machine: SPV-M1000 (SPV2020)
OS: MS Pocket PC

ROM: 1.60.00 WWE
ROM Date: 12/03/03
Radio: 1.10.00

I really can't download any app. It is heart-breaking.(!)
I have the Harry Potter III movie trailer & I really want to watch it.
Thanks
Dave
I started getting that error message when I answered yes to replacing the gx.dll file, after installing an older PPC app. I had to HARD RESET to get my gx.dll file back because I didn't make a backup. If you have a backup of your gx.dll, copy it over and try again.
-Brandon
thanks.
Thanks for that, i will give it a try this evening.
The annoying thing is that this device is brand new and hasn't had one app installed yet. my ISP say the reason the e-mail isn't working is because of a software issue and also advise a full restore.

Installation error of EXE files

i just had my first PPC (dopod 838 pro). i tried installing .CAB files with no problem. but i couldn't install any .exe files thru activesync. it attempted to install but there's a pop up that says error in setup file or something.
can anyone pls help me? pls?
ROM version: 3.54.707.3
ROM date: 07/05/07
Radio version: 1.47.00.10
Protocol version: 32.80.7020.20H
.exe files are usually installed in Windows, and then Windows copies the files over during synchronization.
it's ok now. seems that my PC at work has a problem. when i tried at home, i was able to install just fine.
thanks anyway. will have to find ways on how to fix my PC at work.
running an executable on a pc at a workplace is most likely blocked with a security policy

I still got WB5 on my phone..and I tried TNT.1933 touchflo..by hooking up my phone with a usb and activesync..but when I ran the RUU it said file error..do I have to upgrade to WB 6.1 first and if so...where do I get it (ive searched wiki and everything I could search here) or am I missing a step? Any help would be great, thanks!
need help?
hi there.... it seems you have unlocjed the device...
now, when you try to upload a new ROM. first of all, the device must be "connected to PC" using activesync (v 4.5)
then u have to run RUU.... in fact most roms you download have the RUU inside... so send me message if need help... send message...
GOOD LUCK
Nothings wrong there and you don't have to upgrade first to any rom,All the wm6 or wm6.1 roms can be flashed directly,as its already HardSPL,you can flash any wm6 or wm6.1 roms as much as you like, but just don't flash any official stock rom,it contains IPL/SPL,it'll Brick the phone.
If its a 'File Open' or 'File Read' error,re download the rom package again and run it,it may be the rom you downloaded is corrupt or missing some files.

Disconnect your HD2 from the PC. Try this: (in HD2)
Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC > Disable faster data sync (remove the enable check)
Reconnect and put device in activesync mode. see if it works.
Super!
I was looking for a reason for quite a while and this one worked immediately.
millions thanks! i have the same problem and now it fixed!
I've had similar problems which I have had to soft reset to re-establish connection. This looks like it might solve it for me too.
Thanks MightyMN
Ok, I'm getting really fed up with problems on the HD 2.........
I have had bunch of problems with my device now, this time i tried reinstalling my rom because I had the SMS problem HTC released a hotfix for(which didn't work for me).
Anyway, now I can't use activesync anymore. It just doesn't work on my device.
Can't even reinstal the ROM now
Can anyone help me with this?
Newermind, i don't have the time to wait for answers
I just took a hard reset, now it works
I had some activesync problems too, but the thing came suddenly, i never had problems before:
PC: HP, Vista 64bit
Device: HD2
Suddenly, during some software installations on the HD2 and some cable disconnecting and reconnecting to the PC, activesync was not working anymore..(strange "lock" sound while cable connecting to the PC out of the PC speakers). I had to deactivate this "USB to PC" "fast connection" field in WM6.5 and then it worked again. But I thought that cannot be the solution, because before everything worked fine.
Then i did uninstall and reinstall device center on Vista: no change. Hard reset HD2: no change. After some minutes of thinking I just did a system recovery of Vista, back to a date before the problem has begun.
After the system recovery everthing was fine again, activesync now works in fast connection mode again!
The Problem was caused by the PC/Vista... strange thing! Does anybody know what the problem was, some settings in Vista??
Best regards,
Raphael
I ALSO can't use activesync anymore

For the last 10 days I am also experiencing the same problem with my HD-2 and Windows XP pro. After trying all suggested solutions, the only thing left is to reinstall XP pro ((( - WTF
Solved - By reinstalling XP-Pro and by erasing Kaspersky

Finally I solved the problem and evrything works fine. Including Activesync that works smoothly. All system , PC- Activesync-ND2 , works like a new oilled machine.
The solution:
Reinstalling XP-Pro on my PC and by erasing Kaspersky antivirus software from it. As it looks, probably Kaspersky was the cause .
Instead of KasperskY I use now the ESET NOD32 which reacts fine and
does not disturb activesync.

I have nearly the same problem as yours,
PC: Asus W7 x64
Device: Touch HD
Suddenly my connection was cut-off, then I hard-reset HD, afterwards send an image of ActiveSync normally runs to Asus, night time at my house it was working but in the day time not at the office (I nknow it's very stupid but it is 100% like this)
Now I cancelled Fast Connection, it works but what makes it not-working I dont really know exactly...
May be it is because of Nod32, but I am not quite sure about this, I just suspect.
Looking for a remarkable answer!

Thanks a bunch. I had the same issue and now it works.
Can someone explain exactly why the faster sync prevents the phone from being recognized?
Eset does make active sync difficult. Despite trying all the steps to allow it, I still cannot make it work. So anytime I need to sync, I have to turn off the Eset firewall first. Then it works like it is supposed to.
YOU ARE THE KING!!!!! That litle word (Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC > Disable faster data sync (remove the enable check)
and all is OK
If it still not working...Try to (re)install Active Sync...
microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/apps/65-downloads.aspx?ProductID=76
..It do the trick for me..
Cheers!!
I cant use WDMC (on W7 professional 32-bit)) to sync contacts. WDMC crashes with following error. This used to work perfectly on my XP using ActivSync.
Any suggestions?

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.
For example:
<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>
When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Disconnect your HD2 from the PC. Try this: (in HD2)
Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC > Disable faster data sync (remove the enable check)
Reconnect and put device in activesync mode. see if it works.
Click to collapse
that worked a treat! thank you
You need to disable antivirus and firewall to sync.
Cheers.
I just had the SAME problem! I don't know what's causing it, but I see that Windows Update installs another piece of drivers when you take that check off, but still the computer doesn't recognize that the HD2 is connected to the USB, but when I use it as a disk drive it does since I can see it in "computer" with ActiveSync on I can see the HD2 in "computer" now I can't. I don't know what's going on.
EDIT: After installing the "other hardware" for "pocket PC" when having the check off, I put the check back on and it works, confusing! But hey it works.
