Hi, my phone started showing my screen in the attached today.
Basically it has all these lines running through it and I have to have the phone on max brightness to see. I've sent my phone screenshot to other people and they see my screenshot just fine. So I know it has something to do with my AT&T galaxy s4 screen.
I had someone else take my phones screen and sent it to me. I've attached it below
I was wondering if you guys know what's wrong with it? Is it a hardware or software problem? Can I get w replacement for it?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
The screen is messed up. I'd get a warranty replacement. What firmware are you on? A replacement will probably be on mf3.
I'm on MDL right now.
Do you think Odin may fix the issue as well? I'm away from home so I do not have access to pc yet. If not then should I call straight to samsung or at&t?
The phone screen is messed up even during booting and recovery mod. But I can still use the phone in home screen and lock screen only with max brightness and having those lines on it.

If it was me I'd give odin a shot. That way you can confirm it's a hardware issue.
That is a hardware issue. A flex cable came loose and isn't sitting properly. You could take the device apart and check the flex connections. This used to happens to me all the time on my Nexus 7 until I hot glued that sucker down.

Great to hear that. At least it's a 'do it yourself' fixable issue.
If I open my galaxy s4, I will lose the warranty right? Should I contact Samsung first or go ahead and open my phone?

It would depend to me what firmware you're on. If you're already on mf3 I'd get the warranty. But if you're on mdl then it would be a tougher choice. But I like to have a custom recovery and the ability to put custom roms on. A warranty most likely will have mf3.

No warranty stickers on or in the device other than moisture detection stickers. Just don't lose or strip the heads and you will be fine if you ever need to RMA.

Simply opening it up won't necessarily void your warranty.
The connector for the display is on the upper right side by the volume rocker. (see attached image)
It's only a couple of screws and you'll need a spurger or guitar pick to open it up.
Simply press on the connector to make sure it's seated properly.

Nice! I'm assuming that is the board for galaxy s4. And will doing this most likely fix the issue?

The screen itself is more than likely shot.

Alright, I am thinking of exchanging this device through samsung. How do I restore this device from using a custom rom to factory stock through odin/triangle away. I also want to restore it without using the factory boot recovery as I am unable to see/navigate through that.
But my approach is (would like some input)
- Reset Counter using Triangle Away on a custom rom (task's at&t galaxy s4 aokp rom)
- ODIN (removes root and go back to at&t s4 stock rom - MDL)
- Reset to factory through "System Settings -> Backup & Reset"
Is that correct? I need it in stock form as Samsung most likely to check everything through my device and be able to fix the lcd screen.
Wanted to inform people that have tried to help me out... I sent my device to samsung and they were able to repair my phone as there were no solutions besides replacing my LCD screen for free due to warranty. I finally received my device back after waiting for 2 weeks.
nfortunately, they updated the firmware to mf3 and there are no ways to revert back even with my old nandroid i backed up using twrp. As of now, no safe rooting method is available for mf3
There is a Safe root method. The only way it is not safe is if the user screws up by not reading.
Sounds like they fully replaced the device. If they did not fully replace it, contact them and tell them that they had no authorization to update the phone. They were ONLY to repair the phone. Tell them you want a replacement with MDL and give them some BS story that you have vital applications for work that is not compatible with MF3 or something like that.

Sounds legit. Consent should be a must to make any changes to a users device that doesn't involve 'repairing.' But hey... What's customer service anyway? Lol.

I don't think I'll return it as I am returning to school soon. The only thing that is holding me back from rooting is there are no methods to unroot/odin the s4 on mf3 firmware.
On the bright side my phone doesn't overheat as it used to be and lasting longer battery life. Not sure if it's mf3 firmware but it's doing fine as it is. Will wait patiently for a possibility for unroot/odin.
Keep this in mind.

Device : Nexus 7
Running : Android 4.1.2 Rooted
Problem : I was trying to unroot it and flash a 4.2.2 ROM to the device and i ended up bricking it somehow. I looked around a lot on here and youtube. I found one solution i had not tried which was to get into recovery mod. But the device was stuck on the boot loaded. So i hard shut it down, and pressed the key combination to load the boot loader. And, the screen wasn't loading. I heard the little chimes my computer makes when ever a USB device is active, so i heard the thing load into the boot loader. But its not showing on the screen!
Please help i really shouldn't have done this. But i am literally about to cry.
I tried using Wugfresh's Nexus toolkit to flash the ROM, and it would stop on sending system.
I dont know if i did something wrong, if the kernel was messed up, if the kit wasnt right, please as the video said there is 4 million members here. someone has to know what to do...

That is not the bootloader. You need to have your device disconnected from your pc. Then go to your bootloader.

Nope. Not working. And its not the battery. its plugged into the wall.
Just a noob guess, Is it possible the device isnt even using the display? Like its so messed up that its per say not even realizing it has a screen?
Try volume down and power. It is possible that the screens flex cable came loose. Pop the back off and check. You should be getting some visual queue. If all else fails hold the power button for awhile. Like around 15 to 20 seconds. I have had to do that a few times. That should fix it.

You can use a fingernail really. The best thing is a plastic spuger. A guitar pic works nicely. Just start at the bottom and work your way around.

Have you dropped the device at all or sat on it? If you are getting no visual queues, either you have a loos flex cable, or the lcd is cracked or just non functional all together. The best way to check that is to shine a flashlight at an angle into your screen. Look for any odd lines that have a slight or significant curve to them.

Assuming i found the right cable which was under a copper shielding that was running up from the metal frame under the battery. It was yellow.
It was tucked all the way in.
I didnt see any cracks or lines. I did sit on my pillow was under it.
That could possibly break the device. I just recently broke mine the other day in similar circumstances. The cable is right by the battery on the right. Should be almost centered by the batt.

and Yes i got the right cable. So what can i do now? It was rooted so i cant send it back, Is there anything i could do?
You technically could send it back... They can't confirm it is rooted unless you unlock the bootloader and the little lock thing shows up on the splash screen. And since your screen doesn't work, they can't see it unless they test the device after replacing the screen assuming they don't replace the whole unit. But I don't know their procedures. Most companies just replace the whole thing. The screen shouldn't just go out. Not saying it doesn't happen, but it shouldn't.

Well good luck. Never thought one could fully brick a Nexus 7. From my understanding, it is damn near impossible. Tell them that you were updating to 4.2.2 and it won't boot up at all now. That should avoid them replacing the screen and checking everything ultimately getting you a whole new device. I know you said it's not the battery, but try charging it overnight and the try to boot it up. I have seen so many people think they bricked, but discovered later on down the line 'up to 6 months later' that their battery was just dead.

Well as the title says, I dropped my SGS4 and it must have landed on just the right spot on the top left corner. I put it back together and turned it on, only to find that I couldn't see anything and the touch screen isn't responding.
I'm on Mint Jelly version 1 so my recovery is the Aroma. Is there any way to backup my phone and settings so that I can restore them to a new SGS4 when I get it, using ADB or otherwise?

Can you power the phone on while its connected to the PC and the PC detects it?? If so then yes im pretty sure you can read the guides online and back it up or even use KIES to back it up.

You may have broken the actual digitalizer/oled screen...if that's the case your gonna have to get it replaced...the parts alone will prob end up costing you somewhere between 100-200...that's just based on other phones haven't actually looked into the price for the s4

What would happen if I sent my galaxy s4 for repair for overheating issues and they found that my camera lens was cracked? Im sending it straight to samsung. I need some help and im wondering if I should just keep it here and not send it.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda premium
If you are sending it to Samsung, make sure you never rooted it and if you did you ran triangle away to reset the flash counter and are completely stock on the official build or they will return it with out looking at it. If that is done then they may claim user damage and not repair but you may get lucky and the tech will replace the camera lens for you. Its hit or miss sometimes, but they will definitely claim the overheating issue is a rooting problem and you warranty is void even if root has nothing to do with it.

I've got 2 random purple blobs and a green blob as well. It's sure if it's from running hot or what. Sprint repair center won't do crap for me unless I get a remanufactured one using my insurance, and not sending my only phone out for who knows how long for Samsung to look at it.

I've had my phone for a month/month and a half now, and today was the second time that I had to pull the battery. the phone would be fine running throughout the day, then when I go to turn it on, it does not respond to the home or power button. the LED continued to blink though. has anybody else had this issue? not sure if this is considered the "black screen of death". I was just going to do a factory reset and hope that it fixes it. no drops or water damage.
What firmware are you on? Do you have an i337.
mf3 and yes.
Do a factory reset, if it doesn't help, swap it for a new one. They'll probably get you a new one if you haven't done anything to it.

Ive been having a problem. My phone shuts down by itself and when you try to boot, it restarts too. I think the power button is kinda " stuck " so it reboots and stuff. The reason i think this is because when i press the power button, it would give me the 4 boot menu which requires you to hold the button.
So any way to clean it? or fix this without opening up the phone ?
Take the battery out first.
Get the highest grade rubbing alcohol you can find. 91% isopropyl alcohol is the minimum you should use and do not use the green kind. Use a qtip to try and get a little under the button. Then push the button and release a bunch of times. Do this process about 3 or 4 times. Let the phone sit for about 15 to 20 mons to let it all evaporate. Pop the battery back in and give it a try.

do you know if theres a file that returns your phone to stock and removes the unlock thing on the boot screen like what they had on the GS2?
Triangle away removes the custom screen and resets the binary counter, you will have to use Odin to flash the stock firmware. I assume you are pre MF3. So MDL most likely.

yeah not quite sure about this MDL and MF3 stuff... i got it when it first came out and stop visiting the forums. so im probably MDL. dam i have to use odin tho :T mhk. i think imma do this incase it breaks lol...
If you are MDL or earlier, you can use Kies to do the emergency recovery back to stock after triangle away.
Also, in the thread for triangle away and also in various tutorials, make sure you follow the steps exactly. It's a little different than the S2. Some make mention of needing to have unlocked bootloaders to use it, but don't worry about that as even on MDL and earlier, the bootloaders are technically locked. It will still work as long as you follow instructions.
