[Q] Titanium Backups lost after OTA 4.3 update? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I lost my titanium backups after moving back to stock and then doing the OTA update to 4.3
Is there anyway to get them back or find them? I'm pretty gutted about losing my gallery and everything right now
Thanks for any help

What did you do to go back to stock?

If you used the Nexus Image Flasher then it will wipe EVERYTHING anyway.

I used one of the toolkits, either root toolkit or nexus toolkit, I thought titanium backups would not get deleted...

[Q] How would I go about updating in the future?

I have unlocked and rooted my Nexus 7 and it is also running the Motley kernel. When new updates come out for the Nexus 7 how would I go about updating without loosing my data?
Simplest method,
1. Backup ur data
2. download the latest update from Google.
3. Flash it and root it via toolkit or fastboot.
4. Restore data.
Its just like flashing new rom clan and efficient.

But wouldn't updating to say 4.3 on a 4.2 kernel mess up the Nexus?

No, he's saying you don't even need to do that. The update will replace everything.

don't have the stock one anyone more
also I am updated Sound to beats Auto Mod
Checked the boot Video to a Custom one .
Okay FIxed using N-Cry tool kit it will wipe everything so back up before hand
seriously? flashing stock 4.3 over stock 4.2.2 but with some mods will not work?
I understood it was possible but flashing instead doing OTA. is it true?
This is one of the reasons why I stay unrooted as I get OTA updates without hassle and without losing any data. No need to flash or backup anything.
No risk of bricking the phone.

Backing up Galaxy s4

Hey guys
Quick question here guys, im a complete noob on android. Ive rooted my phone, and have installed greenify, titanium backup, and clockworkmod recovery software. I read somewhere i should have made a back up copy before rooting. Is it too late to unroot, or can i still do it now? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
The general idea is to to root, install a custom recovery and make a backup before you proceed with installing any new root-access apps, roms, etc. Backups (nandroids) are made in a custom recovery like twrp or, in your case, cwm. Cheers

Is it too late to make a backup if I've done all that stuff? Wow I've got gaps in my knowledge as a noob.

If your already rooted and have MDL/MDB bootloaders and a custom rom you can make a nandroid backup at anytime. This is good practice whenever switching Roms performing a backup before flashing a new rom. It gives you something to restore in case you have issues with the new rom or just don't like it and want to be back to where you were before. Think of a nandroud backup as an ISO IMAGE where everything is saved/restored exactly like the point you made the backup.
Now if you WANT to save a backup if the stock firmware right after you rooted it then no you cannot just do that easily. To do it you will need to Odin back to the stock firmware (MDB/MDL firmwares) then re root your phone, make a backup, then flash the Roms you want.

Well darn. I'm running stock mdl. Haven't tried a custom rom because I don't have a external storage card, not to mention after using Titanium and greenify and whatnot I've pretty much got it how I want it at this point. Oh well live and learn. Thank you for the information. There's so much I'm trying to learn post iPhone 5.

Backup mk2?

I'm rooted with mk2 and no issues. Downloaded wanam, which is awesome, but later read xposed framework can cause a lot of problems and I should perform a backup. I've had no issues yet, but would still like a backup. I have a titanium backup of apps only, but not of the current stock rom. Nandroid won't work with mk2 because of the locked bootloader, so what can I do? Is it possible I'm okay with xposed if it hasn't given me problems yet?

I always make a system dump of my current stock firmware before I start fiddling with my phone. That way I can easily replace any modified/missing files with stock versions when the next ota update comes out.

Thanks. But at this point I'm obviously a little further down the line. What can I do to backup my phone now?
Surely there would be a stock ROM floating out there somewhere I could flash if worst came to worst?
Nevermind, I found a thread explaining it.

Hi, afraid if you've root on your device, more importantly, you have a custom recovery partition in your device, do not accept OTAs. This could permanently brick your Nexus 7. You may be able to temporarily "unroot" the device, removing the custom recovery and flashing back to full stock with stock recovery. Check your device's threads for any available guides.

you don't really need to go back to stock. when the ota becomes available, either here on xda or when it's available on your tablet, download it then install it through the recovery on your tablet. you'll lose root but just flash a root package and you're all done. i've done this before and no problems what so ever.

that's a custom rom or a modified stock rom. no one has got an ota for the 2012 nexus 7 and were the only nexus still to get 4.4.3 through ota. i'm also waiting but it's weird for there to be a gap from the other nexus's

I would recommend that one, as its basically rooted stock which is what you're currently running anyway. You can just wipe cache and dalvik cache in recovery and flash it, no need to wipe data (so your apps/settings/files will all be untouched). If there are any questions in recovery to flash stock recovery or fix root just answer no to both, my root was kept intact without having to reflash superSU. It saves waiting for the OTA (which still isn't here for some reason) and the risk of it failing/losing root/custom recovery for whatever reason.
As always just in case, make a full nandroid backup in recovery, then flash the ROM. You shouldn't have any problems. :good:

Thank you Sir!
Okay, correct me if I am wrong:
if OTA updates available, do not proceed to DL (over WIFI) and do not let tablet do the installation, as it might cause problem (brick?).
DL thru XDA install thru recovery instead. ( either in ZIP or .img? format).

You'll probaby get a status 7 error and the update won't apply, I would recommend the rooted stock based ROM you linked to above, quick and easy to update rather than waiting for an OTA and trying to update that way.
