How are you guys cleaning the back of the tablet? It's picked up a few finger prints and it's annoying. I don't want to put anything to it just yet w/o asking you guys what your experiences are.

Rubbing alcohol.
Why do I get the feeling I'll be posting another thread soon. "Windex and rubbing alcohol ate through the back of my tablet?"
how often do you look at the back of your tablet?
if it really bothers me (which it doesn't) i use my shirt to wipe away grease/oil/fingerprints.
I always make sure to put on a pair of latex gloves before picking up my tablet.

FWIW, rubbing alcohol is typically 70%(or less) alcohol and 30% (or more) sterile water.
I've used it on the original N7 back (a similar soft touch material) for a year +2 weeks (got it at release). No problems.
Maybe straight denatured alcohol would be an issue.
The ammonia in windex, or the heavy surfactants would be a greater worry.
Maybe not Windex but rubbing alcohol should work fine. I've used it to clean old game consoles and cartridges.
I went ahead and cleaned it with alcohol wipes and lo and behold the oil slick appeared from the other thread.
I cleaned it and dried it and it looks perfectly fine now but when i wipe it down with a wet wipe you can see the slick. What is that and is there anyway to get rid of it?
Water and a microfiber worked great for me.

Wow that 1st picture looks murdered.
I found that pre-moistened alcohol wipes work best, I usually use them to get the glue residue of new devices (my iPad mini had a lot of glue and oil smears on it when I first purchased it).
I haven't received my N72 yet, but is the back material anything like the Droid DNA? Sort of rubbery soft? I used packing tape wrapped around my fingers to clean that surface and it worked like a charm. Actually, the phone had a case on it that left an impression and the tape was able to remove the impression and clean the surface.

Yep. That's pretty much what mine looked like.
PS Don't use windex, the ammonia damages the surface. I used windex on one of the Thinkpad rubberized lids, and the marks eventually left by windex looked worse than the fingerprints

Just wipe the back with your shirt, that's my way of cleaning it. And don't use it while eating oily snacks.

The silicone skins stretch out over time, are hard to get out of your pocket, but keep the phone from sliding around on slick surfaces like a car's dash.
The "flexible" (soft/hard silicone) case that VZW makes is what I have used. Feels nice, like the black/red look.

Right now I haven't had a case on it, due to needing to pull the battery (for various ROM flashing), and it doesn't fit with the case in my dock at work. Taking the VZW case off can be a pain to do if it's done a lot, so right now I'm case-less.
otterbox commuter case
Black silicone case from vw. Keeps safe from drops, evens out back so cam lens is protected and keeps screen protected when laying face down.
No case. I kept trying to get use to it and couldn't. I've given up and just resolve to being extremely careful.
I used to use a hard clear case, but then a month ago I took it off and haven't looked back xD Haha, the most common question I get about my phone is: "Didn't you used to have a case?"

I have the silicon vzw case but always seem to be taking it out of the case when I'm stationary (sitting down). I just love the feel of it without the case but it PAYS TO KEEP IT ON. I've dropped it a few times, with the case on (thank jeebus), and it just bounces around with little to no case damage. One time it actually bounced back up about two feet and I caught it so I'm inbetween I guess

Same here, I had an Invisible Shield, but it got all dented/gashed up thanks to my keys. (Yes I keep my Dinc with my keys ) And I had a hard case from day one but it doesn't stay on anymore because of how many times I had to take it off.
I also got a new 64GB iPod touch for christmas and got a cheap case that partially blocked the audio jack, so I never used the case. Without a screen protector, the glass holds up pretty well. As for the chrome back, well, thats a different story
I have an otterbox defender, seidio innocase active, sedio innocase surface and one of the snap on cases from VZW... but they sit nicely in my desk. I drop the phone all the time and don't have a single scratch on the screen, a few small nicks on the outside. It is too sexy to keep in a case.
I actually just took the case off my phone today and it's soo much smaller and the vibration feels odd.. I prefer the case over no case its just nicer feel for me.

i dont know about dangerous.. ive cleaned my screen every day with an alcohol pad since day one(and the back camera lens cover).
looks like grit or hair or fibre under the lens.
If IPA wont remove it from the lens cover i'd say for sure its under glass, which would suggest two things.
1. You have had the handset apart at some point and as such voided your warranty and this won't get RMA'ed, and will get sent back to you.
2. The handset has failed its IP rating (Ingress Protection Rating) and if none of the water markers or tabs that show the device has been opened not by the factory, your get this replaced.
Personally i'd not bother worrying, it will possibly shift after time, as long as it does not move to the centre.

well that's dependant on device usage, I work with fibre optics and see this all the time when cleaning fibres and laser emitters.
a week to 2 months, it a could also be a scratch / small chip on the lens cover that has dirt embedded in it, get some IPA / screen cleaner and go at it with a cotton bud.

I had to get the screen a little dirty to be able to get it to show in a pic, because it is only visible at certain angles. Even when the screen is perfectly clean it is visible. It's about a 2"x1" patch on the bottom right. I've owned my s4 for 6 months and it was purchased brand new. This has just appeared in the last month. Anyone seen this before and know what it is?

That looks like the texture of the material of whatever pocket you're keeping it in. It should just clean off unless the material is abrasive enough to actually start damaging the glass or the screen protector if you're using one.

The only thing that matches up to the pattern is the net lining in the pocket of my north face jacket. How does the lining of a coat melt the coating of a phone screen? Is this something that happens frequently? should I get an otterbox or something to prevent more of the screen from getting melted by the lining? this seems so bizarre. never had anything like this happen with my iphone pre-android.

I've noticed it's been getting warmer. That sounds plausible... I just dunno how to get it cooler (or if that's even a possiblity). It's like my little mini computer, I'm never on the desktop anymore. Figure I just smoke the poor thing.
So................
Here is the story:
I dented the back of my HTC One and literally could not believe it. I had only had it for a week and im so careful with my phones.
So I tired a few ways to remove the dent without taking the phone apart. Like heating the dent up and then putting something cold on it. This helped a little bit however I could still see this dent starring at me. So I took drastic measures.
I tried to take the phone apart. This didn't work to well and I ended up scratching up the speaker grills in the process.
So now my beautiful new One has a dent in the back and scratches on the grills on the front. I felt like crying.
I decided to take the hard decision to try and cover these scratches up and decided to spray paint the grills matte black.
This is how it turned out:

Still have my dent, but I guess I'll have to live with it.

Yea I tried that as mentioned above it worked a little, but it's still visible unfortunately.
I have a slickwrap front and back skin coming so hopefully this will help.
Yea I also did cover up the sensor, but I always use my phone at a constant brightness so no biggie.
I'm hoping some 3rd party grills will show up on ebay soon. Hopefully in black. Because it looks awesome.

It looks like that area is soft and is prone to scratches so a clear protector on that area sounds like a good idea

Thanks for posting the pics! I also did this last night - partially because I messed up one of the grille holes while trying to clear them out, and partially because I thought it looked interesting. I went with a matte paint too from Tamiya (model paint). I like the matte texture to prevent smudges and it's working great for that (especially the top one when I put it up to my ear!). Cut a couple of pieces of masking tape to cover the sensor window and camera lens so everything works fine. I only put a couple of coats on so that the grilles still look flat. Turned out pretty decent I think
So ive lost the C forever, and now the phone looks ugly. Poor quality by HTC IMO... anyone else experienced this?

My C fell off when my phone was sitting on my lap on a road trip. I guess the sun was too hot for it and the glue just turned to cupcake frosting. While I was cleaning the back of my phone I noticed one of the letters moving, so I went ahead and took all 3 out.

RIP "C" lol ...sorry bout that bruh
You know this gives me an idea...
With the filler removed from those placeholders there's enough countersink to fill with epoxy and then sand smooth.
Clear five minute epoxy resin could be used and you can make them any color you want by mixing in a bit of acrylic paint found in a craft store.
Get creative!
Just be sure that it's clean so the epoxy sticks well. Or it could fall out again...
I'm willing to bet that properly mixed epoxy will stay put though.
sad times right now, good thing is that its going back to att once the new phone is released =)
similar to the Nexus 5 ...all the Nexus letters on my white and red housing have been RIP'ed
