I was just now searching for information about the new version of Android and I come up with this list: http://technosamigos.com/asus-android-4-3-jelly-bean-update-schedule/
I don't know if this is legit, but it can actually be true. Our tablet was the very first tablet to receive Android 4.1 and 4.2 after the nexus devices, and has been receiving updates quite regularly, so it wouldn't be a surprise if we got Android 4.3 this year.
What do you think about this?

Let's keep our finger crossed and hope ASUS makes one for us :fingers-crossed:
I hope so! It runs so well on my N4 compared to 4.2.2; maybe it's just a placebo, but dammit, it helps.

IMO, the biggest/main advantage to getting 4.3 update is if you have young kids that use your tablet.... the new user app controls are awesome.... now my son can't open any apps but the ones i enable on his user account.... no more contacts added with the name "kjhfjhduh" or similar....lol.... no more phone calls with groove ip made to numbers like "87##*8765(*854" lmao.... and my friends will no longer receive garbled up google talk messages from my son....

Biggest advantage is fstrim! My tf300 has been very laggy since 4.2, so with fstrim now fully implemented hopefully that will speed things back up.

fstrim will not be a magic pill. The app on the Play Store does the same thing as what will be built into Android 4.3, with the main difference being that trim is supposed to happen on a schedule. It won't do much.

I agree, this phone was nice with GB but with ICS this machine is amazing. The best part about it is that this is only the begining
Hopefully thismeans we will be the fixed icsics

I'm quite curious though, is the new smoothness due to the forced gpu rendering? Is anyone runnning stock ICS but without 'forced gpu rendering' checked in dev settings that can give some feedback on its smoothness? I do know that scrolling anywhere now is much smoother compared to GB, almost as if animations were running in a priority thread like they do in fruit phones.
I leave hardware accel off and it is still exceptionally smooth, though not AS much with the stock kernel. Cannot notice much difference between the two with GLaDOS.
I'm pretty much in agreement with the thread starter. The ICS upgrade is amazing. Very smooth and fast. Everything seems so much better just as any upgrade should be. And also the new UI and graphics are great.
Its funny reading everywhere now about just about every handset waiting and or crying for ICS update. Most won't see it till the second half of next year.
I love my nexus even more than ever.

Agreed, ics kicks a$$.
A few things that could have been included that weren't, lucky for us those there's the nova launcher that's shaping up really nice and adds what ics should have had in the first place.
I'm running my phone on background process limit of x3 and no gpu redering with nova launcher and it's amazingly fast and smooth with no lag whatsoever, even when entering the app drawer.
As it's been said, things will only get better and I also think the Nexus S needs new reviews doing on it.

It really is. I love my NS even more with ICS, altough my experience with it in Gingerbread has only been about 2 weeks. Previously I was using Gingerbread (CM7) in a ZTE Blade and, as an interaction experience (regarding solely the OS), ICS beats it to a pulp. Now it's a waiting game until all the quirks are solved
has anyone tried the microbes live wallpaper. Im using stock ICS, stock kernel, non-rooted and it is just laggy as hell. Rest of the phone is ok, but i wouldnt call it buttery smooth
The microbes live wallpaper is definitely more hardware intensive than most of the others. It would likely be -slightly- better with a different kernel, but i can't see the Nexus S being powerful enough to breeze through it.
Live wallpapers for me use too much battery for too little eyecandy, though to each their own.

At first I thought so too, but now I'm not so sure. It wasn't this bad in gjngerbread albeit 2.3 seemed a lot lighter and less ram intensive than ics. Also I ran the microbes lwp on my old g2 and it ran a lot better than my nexus s. I think its more of a software issue but I'm no dev.

Thread title says it all. What do you like? What do you hate?
For me, I'm generally very happy with it. I love the speed and responsiveness as compared to Honeycomb. I love the ICS user interface as well. It isn't all that different from Honeycomb, granted, but it's the little things. I love the page transition effect on the app drawer, the Roboto font is much more readable, and I love being able to swipe away notifications. Honestly, the notification swipe is one of the only things I truly missed about running CyanogenMod in years past. Did I mention I love being able to run Chrome finally?!
As for things I don't like...mainly aesthetics. I'm annoyed that it didn't come with the default ICS "Phase Beam" live wallpaper, but it's alright. I just ganked it from a deodexed stock Galaxy Nexus ROM and it installed fine on the Xoom. Ditto for the "Adara" notification sound.
How about you?

Meh so far. To me battery is worse, 3g signal seems worse, pulse lags just as much.
Need to root and go to an OC'd ics rom.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
Pulse lag is most likely the app. At first, I actually thought battery life was better but now that a week has gone by, it actually seems the same for me as it was on Honeycomb...and for me, the new radio seems better, though admittedly I live in a 4G market so I'm not sure how the 3G reception is vs. Honeycomb.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 2
Radio is definitely better for me. Batt life seems marginally better, too, though I'm back on EOS nightly since they have the new radios... def improved batt, with all the addtl features and smoothness EOS brings.

Hey I know were all just enjoying our JB updates right now, but It cant hurt to start a thread about android 4.2
well as the rumors are flying around about a Galaxy Note 8 with android 4.2 I gotta say we wont get 4.2 for some time
samsung will more than likely market the 8 inch tablet with 4.2 for quite a few months before updating the 10.1
but lets all chat about it
I'm happy as is. The exploit is fixed, the tab is flying. Unless 4.2 brings something extraordinary to the table I am happy to stay on 4.1.2
I hate the new separate navbar and statusbar: a waste of screen real estate and the location of the nav buttons is not reachable with the thumbs. That being said I hope I receive my 4.1.2 update soon cuz i'm still on ICS
The old saying, "Be careful what you wish for . . ." applies here. There are a number of known issues with 4.2, not the least of which is that bluetooth is broken for the time being. You might want to read this article, it will temper your desire to get 4.2 before some of these bugs are fixed.
Oh to hell with 4.2, I don't want a phone UI.
I do want multiuser, though the rest doesn't really matter.

Key Lime Pie will probably be announced in May so we should just wait for that xD. 4.2 is like ICS from GB while JB is out; might as well skip it.
Doesnt 4.2 have miracast. I want that instead of allshare for sure
I agree. Tablet is running great, but I wouldn't mind seeing these features on the note 10.1...centrally located home buttons and top drag down menus. They would be so very helpful when using the s-pen to write notes.

Id say thats about the only way we will get it however I am unsure if im willing to flash this tablet in the near future. I have several devices and have custom roms on all but this one and have come to know custom roms are buggy or lose certain functions for a long time before they get sorted out. Stock rom (except voip) works so well on this tablet when overclocked with tegrak that im unwilling to live with many bugs at all.

What You Said.
JellyBean (4.1.x) differs from ICS (4.0.x) in various ways, one of them is the default app picker.
The "new" AppPicker requires two taps to run an app: one tap on the selected application and one tap on "Use Once" button, while in ICS one tap was enough. It was worked-around by Google in JB 4.2.x by adding a "doubletap" feature: just tap again on selected app to use it once.

Some things you learn to live with. For example, I know not to update apps while I'm trying to do anything else. This might require that you set all of your apps not to update automatically.
Installing a custom ROM is a good start. Browser2Ram is almost a must-have. Some people have had luck with DirectoryBind to re-map Chrome's cache folder. I tried the same with Flipboard but it didn't help. So I've learned not to use Flipboard.
In the end, it's a matter of pros and cons. If you find it unbearable even with a custom ROM, a good kernel, and some tweaks, then maybe the TF300 won't satisfy your usage pattern.

I haven't unlocked or rooted yet so I don't have anything to compare it against, but the only bit of lag I have experienced is with the stock browser or chrome, but with either Dolphin or Boat Browser, surfing the web is really quick. What can you say about hydro? I'm currently using it and haven't had any problem except stock browser is really slow and I always got the message that it's not responding? do you experience this in cleanrom or default browser is just crappy?
The stock browser is pretty crappy. Go with dolphin or boat browser as they are way smoother and load sites much faster.
One thing that might help you make a decision on Rom is whether or not you have a keyboard. I believe they only Roms that support keyboard is "stock" based. So Cyanogenmod or any AOSP Roms do not support keyboard.

Hi just went to bestbuy to test the overall performance on this tablet. Sad to say that when i tested the exynos variant, I did encounter lag when I was scrolling the home screen. What I mean is that it doesn't feel smooth. Also pulling out flipboard caused lag. Trying to run a couple of applications like s note. It's not major lag that will take away the whole experience. Just lag that you'll notice from time to time even if it's minor. What's your opinion on this and how do you feel about the exynos? Is it still going to be worth it sacrificing a bit of performance for cheaper price and getting it earlier. Should I wait for the snapdragon variant since it might be faster. But it's also going to be more expensive and I won't be needing LTE. I had really high hopes of this tablet too.

I think early technical analysis showed that the exnyos governor was not exactly optimized. I'm sure this thing will fly with the proper rom. I rommed my note 2 and last year's 10.1 when I felt lag was hindering the experience and both were super fluid after modification. Samsung uses good parts. Tw just tends to be bloated.

I went to BestBuy and put ios7 on it with ilauncher it was so smooth. Alsoi seem very minor lag on this device. I played why it for 30minutes and it was flying. I saw lag at first but then realized over 20 apps were in the background. Closed them all, cleared ram and it was buttery smooth. The Tech at best buy were going crazy over this thing saying it is the best tablet they have seen thus far.

As well they should. I've always wanted a tablet but I would go into Best Buy and play around with them and just walk away saying 'nope' The specs were getting closer to what I wanted but with this, Samsung hit a home run. Pricey but you get what you pay for. :good:

Totally agree on that. All android tablet has come so close. When I saw the 1st gen of the note 10.1 I thought it was the one for me. But with the screen resolution, it was a big let down for me. This year this is the one. Only thing that's stopping me now is the performance.

I may not be as tech savvy as many of you, but I just got this tablet and the performance is amazing. I have 12 active apps running and I don't notice any lag navigating the menus. I've been working in dropsync and synced a whole bunch of files while messing around with it and still noticed no lag whatsoever. I did notice that it gets a bit warm on the back though.

They probably would say that with any new device. I was at bestbuy the other day helping my sister buy a tablet and a couple of employees saw my Nvidia Shield (I was carrying it in its case) and were amazed by the device
Lol no that wasn't it, he wasn't trying to sell me anything. He was trying to find it how much I'm selling my old one for his friend.

Sad to say I'm running into lag and random reboots. So far it has been happening while scrolling through play store. It will freeze then reboot.
I need me some root.

Have you took the update yet? Mine doesn't have those issues

I noticed some lag in windows transistions. So what I've done is turn on developer options and changed transition animation scale from 1x to off. Feels much faster. For example, instead of xda kind of sputtering to life when initiated, it just pops up immediately.

Yes, I did take the update. I'm going to do a factory reset and see if that works.
