Hey I know were all just enjoying our JB updates right now, but It cant hurt to start a thread about android 4.2
well as the rumors are flying around about a Galaxy Note 8 with android 4.2 I gotta say we wont get 4.2 for some time
samsung will more than likely market the 8 inch tablet with 4.2 for quite a few months before updating the 10.1
but lets all chat about it
I'm happy as is. The exploit is fixed, the tab is flying. Unless 4.2 brings something extraordinary to the table I am happy to stay on 4.1.2
I hate the new separate navbar and statusbar: a waste of screen real estate and the location of the nav buttons is not reachable with the thumbs. That being said I hope I receive my 4.1.2 update soon cuz i'm still on ICS
The old saying, "Be careful what you wish for . . ." applies here. There are a number of known issues with 4.2, not the least of which is that bluetooth is broken for the time being. You might want to read this article, it will temper your desire to get 4.2 before some of these bugs are fixed.
Oh to hell with 4.2, I don't want a phone UI.
I do want multiuser, though the rest doesn't really matter.

Key Lime Pie will probably be announced in May so we should just wait for that xD. 4.2 is like ICS from GB while JB is out; might as well skip it.
Doesnt 4.2 have miracast. I want that instead of allshare for sure
I agree. Tablet is running great, but I wouldn't mind seeing these features on the note 10.1...centrally located home buttons and top drag down menus. They would be so very helpful when using the s-pen to write notes.
Perhaps a future ROM...

Id say thats about the only way we will get it however I am unsure if im willing to flash this tablet in the near future. I have several devices and have custom roms on all but this one and have come to know custom roms are buggy or lose certain functions for a long time before they get sorted out. Stock rom (except voip) works so well on this tablet when overclocked with tegrak that im unwilling to live with many bugs at all.

What You Said.
JellyBean (4.1.x) differs from ICS (4.0.x) in various ways, one of them is the default app picker.
The "new" AppPicker requires two taps to run an app: one tap on the selected application and one tap on "Use Once" button, while in ICS one tap was enough. It was worked-around by Google in JB 4.2.x by adding a "doubletap" feature: just tap again on selected app to use it once.

Jelly bean has multiple users function see here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1960908
Although I tried and your Google account and stuff is still available under the other user account making it usless ? So either its implemented different or there is a missing step... i had 4.1.2 cm on my acer a500 with users feature and it worked great. Separate apps, google account etc...

Well, I'm still not sure what the whole big deal is about this update for us.
It isn't more beautiful then a custom ROM. Even Sony told us that this isn't as fast as GB.
And their are still a lot of apps that isn't working correctly on 4.0.
I have it for only one reason. That is because I can't stand if someone with the same device have a newer software then me
Edit: I thought we should have the original unlock. But I have still the Sony one.....
It is no way smooth.. Everything works.. But isn't hardware acceleration supposed to increase the smoothness? I don't blame Sony. I blame Google for not fixing hardware acceleration right!
Sent from my LT15i using XDA
Try enabling gpu acceleration in developer settings?
Has anyone tried using apex launcher? It's probably way better than the stock launcher from what I've seen; like ICS but even better
Running official ics(rooted).its excellent. Very quick lag free compared to beta. I have frozen unneeded system apps and deleted bloatware. Very snappy
Sent from my LT18i using XDA
I love it.
I've been running the ICS beta since it was released and the performance of the final release blows it away on my Arc S. Getting it installed via Flashtool was a right PITA though - I thought my device was properly screwed at one point!
The launcher doesn't redraw like the beta did - I think Sony have made some memory tweaks in this area which is very welcome. I also like that they're shipping the official ICS Gallery app (and have renamed the old one 'Xperia Gallery') - the ICS Gallery app is so much faster than the Xperia one.
The ICS browser is in a different league to the GB one. I also love the Task Switcher, swipe notifications, music player controls, data usage monitor, new ICS calendar widget, GMail widget, etc. etc.
But Sony won't be able to please everyone. Some people were expecting the 2012 NXT UI even though Sony never promised it. These people will be disappointed. Personally I can't see what all the fuss is about - I'm sure someone will get the Xperia S music player working on ICS if that's what people want!
sooo smooth
so fast

Why would they integrate S apps into the Arc S ? What would be the point in giving this years flagship phones apps to last year's ? Then it removes some of the attraction of upgrading , Sony is a business out to make money not provide users with all the solutions they want

..but shortly after I flashed CM9 stable, I kinda started to miss touchwiz a lot, so I had to nandroid back to it.
And I am the one who hates touchwiz.. (although, I use Nova as my launcher)

By the way it happens always, aosp Rom doesn't suit all unless they are ready to compromise some features

I actually like Touchwiz on this phone, seriously. All previous versions annoyed me, but it is smooth and flows well on this phone.
Touchwiz is good and nice, but i think if the backgrounds were white (in the contacts and call log at least) it will be nicer

Can understand you very well.
Have been an aosp freak before (or I'm still, but not at this device), but I'm pretty pleased with touchwiz now. Some ctl and build.prop tweaks and all works fine so far.
Also touchwiz has at the current stage already some small, but useful features build in like the battery percent or the pinch to overview at the appdrawer. Not to forget about the missing mhl support at cm10 which is a dealbreaker for me.
Additional I must confess that I don't like the attitude of team hacksung, even while their work is still much appreciated and they are for sure great developers, it seems to me they aren't doing it anymore because they like to do it, more because they think they have to. For sure it's annoying when noobs clutter the development thread with ridiculous posts, but that you have to expect at a device like the gs3 and the argument that they are doing it for free, yes, it sure makes their work more valuable, but at the same time, they knew it when they started.
My opinion is they or at least every member of their team on his own should focus on one device, maybe that way it would be less load for each developer and at the same time more benefits for the community.
Sry that I cluttered your thread, this I wanted to get of from me sometime ago.

Coming from a galaxy s phone, I remember wanting touch wiz back. The problem with touch wiz as opposed to HTC sense, is you can't retain the framework with a custom Rom. I feel there is more to gain from having a custom Rom than having full blown touch wiz. Look around though, you can probably find a .zip of the launcher here, so you can run a very close emulation of touch wiz on the Rom if your choice. I had a Rom on my captivate called "remics" which had galaxy s3 stock theming throughout the operating system. Just look around, you'll find what you want here on xda

It's the hidden stuff I love in the new touchwiz, like the native mkv and other formats, stay awake, camera app, t9 dialler, swipe to message/call, reject a call with a message..... and loads more really well thought out features. Touchwiz isn't just the launcher. I use apex and have it looking how I want (stockish), yet retain all the samsung stuff. Why anyone would complain about touchwiz on the S3 is beyond me.

There are some good dialler apps and message apps that have white backgrounds (or customisable) with the t9 dialling aswell. I can't remember the names, but you should have a look if you're interested.
The simple fact that I could not create folders in my app drawer made me flash back

I am running Holo HD but I like touchwiz. Especially the icons, they did an amazing job on the icons. they look so nice now and not preschool like before. So I decided to keep using the touchwiz icons for holo.
Yeah, the thing I love with touchwiz is the message app (stock android'd message app is dead boring), the camera app and a bunch of other stuff.
What kinda is a dealbreaker for me which I can't really decide about is exFAT support. Dumbing down my 64gb microSDXC card kinda feels like a stupid thing to do. exFAT is much faster and allows big chunks to be handled at once (like 16 exabyte chucks instead of 4GB ones)
The whole idea with their Nature UX kinda appeals to me. Soothing alarm and ring tones and beautiful wallpapers. Much better than previous touchwiz's.
i like TouchWiz , tried it on both S2 and S3, i also tried CM9/CM10 on both
I hate the TouchWiz launcher, changing the launcher to something like nova solved my problems.
lol because of this I just reverted back to touchwiz from ADW.
Hey All,
I'm looking for a rom and having trouble figuring out which one will best suit my needs. Typically, I would just download a bunch of roms and try them out, but I'm stuck in China with a low data ceiling on a very slow connection for the foreseeable future. I really need to be like 80% sure before I download.
I've been running CleanRom since the summer, and that has been a great experience, but CleanRom is no longer being developed, so I'm no longer up to date.
I want something with integrated tablet mode, and I would like something with a volume slider in the notification tray. Wifi toggle switch would also be ideal (I prefer not to use apps for these features). Aside from those features, I just need the most stable rom possible. Additional customization isn't necessary. In fact, pure stock outside of the features I listed would be great. And I'm obviously not looking for nightly builds. I want something to throw on here and leave on until the next Android update.
Does anyone know a rom that meets this criteria? If you have suggestions, I would love to hear them, and then I'll go read some threads.
I really appreciate the help.

I've been running this rom since 1.1.2 and have been very pleased with it. My current setup is Glazed JB 2.0 with the included Franco kernel, and Nova Launcher Prime for a launcher. I'm also using Pimp My Rom 2.0 for additional tweaks, but from the sounds of it you may not even want that.

You want a solid rom? Team EOS is going to be your best bet. Very minimal isnt loaded with a bunch of crap you wont use. Has its own toggles however are kind of an eyesore IMO. You could just use an app to do the same thing i recommend "Extended Controls" Its a dollar.. but well worth it. LOL reread your OP oops.. :S
Also if you have the pull down.. and swipe in the middle to either the right or the left.. it will swap the Date and clock to a volume slider on the left and a brightness slider on the right .
The only problem I've had with this rom is the oft mentioned error about invalid glazed 2.0 init.. and it's more of a minor nuisance than anything. Functionality does not seem to have a problem, and I'm sure the message has something to do with Glazed being based on a CM nightly.. a bad integer table entry perhaps. Either way, my overall experience has been great with this setup.. buttery fast, and buttery smooth.

Thanks! One more questions PLEASE! How can I post on "Nexus 4 Original Android Development" page? I am always told I need to have atleast 10 posts but I already have 10 posts and still cannot post there? I really want to be able to post there :/
CM 10.1 gives you more customization options
This is a good question to be honest, I have yet to see a post that explains in detail what is to gain by using CM as opposed to stock on a Nexus 4. Personally I don't see the need to flash a rom, but then again I don't know exactly what does CM bring. It would be nice if someone compiled the definitive list of features CM has that jelly bean 4.2.1 stock lacks.
I have same question. Any good summary?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
It's basically stock ROM, but with add-ons and tweaks, little things that Google has to fix yet.
I find two tweaks really useful, the first one, the quick settings panel, in CM the buttons are toggles, and not just shortcuts. Also, quiet hours is pretty useful IMO. Battery life is much better than stock ROM, and even that right now there are only nightlies, CM is quite stable because we have nexus
You should try it, if you don't like CM, there are a lot of ROMs that you can try.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD
Another thing to mention is that you receive security updates more often (when received from a trusted source) und most important IMO you can get rid of that bloatware delivered with most phones. This is especially important with "Non Nexus phones". Also many extra features, as shown above, are included and you don´t need a special app.
Yup CM10.1 is the only custom ROM i'd use on the N4.. all others just seem to play catchup.
Hello Everyone I have a few quick questions. I searched the web for answers but none turned up. I am very new to rooting phones but I love stock android so bad, I must have it. So here are my questions concerning rooting my SGs4.
I have rooted my nexus 4 and put Cyanogenmod on it in the past, is the process the same for the sgs4?
The sgs4 has many features iv never seen on Cyanogenmod, I could be wrong so will all my s4 features still work?
Finally whats this Build MF9 mean? iv recently bought my s4 does this build apply to me?
MF9 is the text code for the date the software was released. Go to settings - more - about device and look at your build number to see which version you are on. If not mf9 do the software update.
None of the touchwiz apps will work natively on an AOSP based rom but many of them (not all) have alternatives in the play store market
We should be getting an upadate to android 4.3 starting tomorrow so you may want to hold off and see how you like that first.

Yeah and all of the fancy gestures like the smart stay, smart scroll, air view and air gestures will not work on AOSP from my understanding. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

As these people stated are true but to be honest if you plan to root do not update to 4.3 unless some devs says is a go for rooting. And if you do decide to upgrade, you might stay without root for awhile.
A rooted verson will be out before the OTA goes out.. The source is already available
