Hi just went to bestbuy to test the overall performance on this tablet. Sad to say that when i tested the exynos variant, I did encounter lag when I was scrolling the home screen. What I mean is that it doesn't feel smooth. Also pulling out flipboard caused lag. Trying to run a couple of applications like s note. It's not major lag that will take away the whole experience. Just lag that you'll notice from time to time even if it's minor. What's your opinion on this and how do you feel about the exynos? Is it still going to be worth it sacrificing a bit of performance for cheaper price and getting it earlier. Should I wait for the snapdragon variant since it might be faster. But it's also going to be more expensive and I won't be needing LTE. I had really high hopes of this tablet too.

I wonder if it lags even with a third party launcher like Nova Prime or Next?
I hear touch wiz bloat is very heavy indeed.

Too many variables. How much other stuff was running in the background? Did you do all this testing after a fresh reboot? Who knows what the people before you were doing to it. And every Samsung experience running full blast does take it's toll, all those widgets updating all programs running etc. I'm just saying it's not all doom and gloom... Just tweak it.

Even in the my magazine app? I hate the stock tw launcher, I wonder how much resources it takes up
I think early technical analysis showed that the exnyos governor was not exactly optimized. I'm sure this thing will fly with the proper rom. I rommed my note 2 and last year's 10.1 when I felt lag was hindering the experience and both were super fluid after modification. Samsung uses good parts. Tw just tends to be bloated.

I went to BestBuy and put ios7 on it with ilauncher it was so smooth. Alsoi seem very minor lag on this device. I played why it for 30minutes and it was flying. I saw lag at first but then realized over 20 apps were in the background. Closed them all, cleared ram and it was buttery smooth. The Tech at best buy were going crazy over this thing saying it is the best tablet they have seen thus far.

As well they should. I've always wanted a tablet but I would go into Best Buy and play around with them and just walk away saying 'nope' The specs were getting closer to what I wanted but with this, Samsung hit a home run. Pricey but you get what you pay for. :good:

Totally agree on that. All android tablet has come so close. When I saw the 1st gen of the note 10.1 I thought it was the one for me. But with the screen resolution, it was a big let down for me. This year this is the one. Only thing that's stopping me now is the performance.

I may not be as tech savvy as many of you, but I just got this tablet and the performance is amazing. I have 12 active apps running and I don't notice any lag navigating the menus. I've been working in dropsync and synced a whole bunch of files while messing around with it and still noticed no lag whatsoever. I did notice that it gets a bit warm on the back though.

They probably would say that with any new device. I was at bestbuy the other day helping my sister buy a tablet and a couple of employees saw my Nvidia Shield (I was carrying it in its case) and were amazed by the device
Lol no that wasn't it, he wasn't trying to sell me anything. He was trying to find it how much I'm selling my old one for his friend.

I noticed some lag in windows transistions. So what I've done is turn on developer options and changed transition animation scale from 1x to off. Feels much faster. For example, instead of xda kind of sputtering to life when initiated, it just pops up immediately.

2.4 should be out in couple months but i think next update we are getting just resolves issues when making phone calls. But yea CM7 nightly is very good i dont usually advertise what rom i like best but if you noticed i have it on my SIG...IMO its that good not to mention you get a rom update every night and no need to wipe after every update they just update over each other so very convenient
And you can always unroot and relock your boot loader if you have to return your phone for any reason Ive returned 2 phones with no problems.

Yes, I had it about three days and did not have any random reboot or lags. I'm on stock OS too. I just had one 3G disconnection but that's pretty much about it. I had to reboot and it was back to normal.
It's very smooth and I feel glad that I switched from WM 6.5!
Install the app "OS Monitor" from the Market and check if the "init" process is using a constant 100% cpu.
This is a known bug that affects some Android devices. The fix is to enable the USB Debugging mode in Options -> Application -> Developer.
I don't think I have noticed this posted anywhere yet...
take a look at this UI (homescreen replacement?) soon to be released on Android:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ys7gua-noOE
it's buttery smooth!
i think shells suck..spb on my nexus?no i had it on p3300 a few years ago..
I'd definitely use this.
yeah ..i'd like to use that too ...
what really caught my attention was that the transitions and animations were silky smooth -- to the point that I doubted whether the video was 'real', or if it was just computer generated imagery!
Certainly impressive, but it's a bit overdone in my opinion. When every single element is glassy with gradients and reflections etc it really makes it look cluttered.
Personally I'd like to see more black in these interfaces, running a SAMOLED screen the black just merges into the bezel beautifully, giving the impression that there are no edges.
But as said above, I'm impressed at how smoothly it runs, considering I sometimes get stuttery animations on the standard interface.
That is really nice looking. Was that a stock android ROM or a new interface?

First of all, you should have turned on a light in the room before recording!
Secondly, I do not see the big difference, sorry.
You did not do anything substabtial, you were just navigating in the Installed Apps menu in Settings... That's hardly a point of reference.
Good idea but, if you don't mind me saying, poorly executed and it does not prove anything. No offense.

Nova and Apex are free, there are paid versions which you can unlock certain features. Completely different to Action Launcher which doesn't offer a free/trial version.
At least with Nova/Apex you can see how it runs on your device over a day or two compared to Action Launcher which you basically have 15 minutes to trial it and if you don't like it you only have 15 minutes to request a refund.

I was concerned about this too - I think you can open the app drawer with the home button, but some apps you want will still be at the top of the list. Infact, if you use the A-Z most will be at the top.
Does anyone know if there is a way around this (e.g, when you press the letter they are offset from the top by a couple of apps)?
I will certainly keep an eye on this, I was quite impressed with the frequent updates for tweetlanes.
The app drawer isn't really on the top left, you can press the home button and it will open, and you can also just swipe right when you are on your "left most" home screen.
I use this on my Nexus 7, and I think its great, good to see something different and not horrifically overpriced!
For me, all it needs is a landscape option, I wouldn't really use landscape on my N4, but I would use it quite a bit on my N7!

1. Disable animations
Sure, you might miss some of the fancy animations and stuff, but it really does help out in the end to make lag go away
2. Install nova launcher
This is important! Nova launcher is quite excellent on this device from my experience. Absolutely zero lag, 60fps buttery smoothness! Plus customization
So Nova helps a lot?

There's just a lot of things installed, much like any laptop you purchased. Why do the companies have all this stuff? Money.

Is root already available on the note 10.1 2014? Because if my memory serves me you need root for that.
