Custom recovery? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What is the easiest way to get a custom recovery on my device which is a i9505 i have rooted using cf auto root?
Sorry for the noobish questions i have always had Nexus devices so Odin etc is new to me

Use recovery tools, available from the play store. After installing CWM, it's easy to change to any other recovery you want. Hope this helped!

You can keep stock kernel and have philz touch recovery, that's what I have done previously. I have noticed a lot of custom recovers are a little buggy still tho still early days for gs4 so I'm still using stock recovery as I use an app called mobile odin and keep my stock firmware on the phone so I can flash anytime

hi
root is not necessary only if you need it , for flashing you need custom recovery (twrp) and rom
from the thread
Installation instructions
I only support the latest TWRP recovery, AT&T users must loki after flashing
-Full wipe
-Flash ROM
-Reboot

You should root because only then you would be able to back up EFS, and EFS backup is very recommended before you Flash anything custom.

There is already a way to go back to stock if you ever do decide to root. Give it a try and if you want, you can flash stock again.
TWRP Recovery is now available for the Note 4 on Tmobile.

Can you do a video on how to unroot or at least some step by step directions?
I've tried to find an answer to this but can't seem to get a 100% sure answer. If I simply root, that's all, no custom recovery. Will I still get OTA if/when Samsung/T-mobile release an update (ie Lollipop)? Thanks!

Yes you should get OTA if you stay stock.
I had a Quick question about Twrp recovery
I have a tmobile note 4 sm-n910t. I have rooted with cf auto root and put the twrp recovery on and flashed the sd card fix. If I unroot via odin with the stock rom will android recovery be installed again or do I have to flash android recovery again to get rid of twrp recovery. If I do have to reflash android recovery again do you know where I can find it.

AOJ5 Update

I have seen a few threads saying flashing the latest firmware blocks flash custom recovery. Is there a way around it? Do you think there will be flash block for Marshmallow? If so, then I might have to trade this for Nexus 6P.
In settings switch usb Debugging and OEM Unlock to on.
Download Odin 3.10.7
Download arter97 Philz Touch Recovery from arter97.com
Flash custom recovery from odin
