can't root - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After going from 4.2.2 down to 4.1.2 I can't root my phone using motochopper or the droid utility. Can someone help me root my phone?

I'm having same problem restored via RSD and I have unlocked boot loader and TWRP installed but can't root with anything 4.1.2-------

I have the same problem...lost root after restoring 4.1.2 using the Utility and applying OTA update. Can't root now with Motochopper either.

I'm going to try going back to 4.1.1, rooting that then flash OTA root keeper, then flash 4.1.2. I'll let you know if this works.

I'm not trying to hijack the thread, but I'm a proud owner of a Razr Maxx (XT912) and it's running 4.1.2. I've tried 4 different ways to root it and no luck.
If I go back to 4.1.1, would I be able to root it? How would I go about downgrading to 4.1.1?

try re-downloading Supersu from the market and setting it as a system app. I think there is an XDA thread with the app whereby you can install it via CWM/TWRP to regain root.

I've come up with a solution.
1.Download the Droid RAZR M Utility 1.10
2.Select the first option
3.Put your phone into AP Fastboot then press any key
4.Once your phone reboots DO NOT except the update
5.Download the Droid RAZR M Utility 1.20
6.Select the first option
7.Put your phone into AP Fastboot then press any key
8.Once your phone reboots DO NOT except the update
9.Enable USB Debugging and select option 5 in the utility
10.You're back on 4.1.2 and you're rooted again

Why buy it? I downloaded the d2 app from 4shared and it works like a dream. Search it on there and install it. Also, click the bootstrap button before the boot into recovery button. (Duh, but it doesn't hurt make sure haha)

XT557D pushing an APK with locked boot loader.

My boot loader is locked, but I have the original APK and need to copy it to the /system/app parition on my phone. Is this even possible? I've trying running it as an update, Phone.zip, but it claims the signature is not verified and restarts again.
I'm not able to do anything with ADB, since the phone seems to be "soft bricked."
Anyhelp would be awesome!
Thanks,

You need root. Then use root explorer to copy it to system/app and set correct permissions.

Ok, so I have root, but boot loader is locked, and it seems my only option is the stock recovery. It seems my phone is "soft bricked" until I'm able to obtain a signed and verified update? This is a Republic Wireless phone that was rooted, but then "soft bricked" by copy an invalid Phone.apk to the /systam/app paritition.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Okay, since this is a Republic Wireless XT557D, I'm guess my phone is staying "soft bricked" until something is released? I'm willing to try anything with this phone, since a replacement is going to set me back $250.

You can get a SBF file which is the stock firmware of your phone and flash it with RSDLite. Then your phone will be back to normal. (thats how it works for the defy)

Anything? As oSandmaNo has stated, once you have exhausted all chances of getting ADB or poking around in terminal than it seems like, from what everyone here and on the Defy/Defy+ thread, you'll have to flash a SBF. Trying a SBF from a phone which uses the same chipset could get your phone booting - though never again working with RW.
Finding which SBFs work with your XT557D could help other 'trial and error' people too - known working 2nd-init scripts or bootloader workarounds compatible with the image you get shoe-horned in may be adaptable with minimal fuss to the XT557D as well.
Hi, I was wondering if anybody has had any progress flashing an SBF to the XT557D.. i've been stuck in a boot loop for months

The same thing is happening to me. I have a rooted Razr M on Verizon and have copied the Safe Strap 3.12 apk file to my phone, used ROM Manager to install it..but it won't install. I therefore cannot boot into recovery...when I try...all I get is the Android robot with the "warning triangle". It will stay on the screen like that for about 2 or 3 minutes, then it'll boot up normally.
Try This
Try not using any kind of app to install safestrap. When I installed it on my phone, I added the apk to my external sd card and then used a file browser (default will work) to find and click the apk. Once this is done, it will ask if you want to install safestrap. Click yes and then click open and then activate safe system. Back out of the app and reboot your phone. I have seen a lot of posts talking about using rom manager and other apps to assist, but it seems like they cause more problems. Try this method and see if it works!

Droid Razr M xt907 Kitkat Update Failed

I'm using a droid razr m xt907 by verizon. Yesterday an update was released for 4.4.2 kitkat, my phone is still rooted and i can't find the safest way to unroot it so i can get the update. Does anyone know the best way to unroot and make sure everything's normal again so that the 4.4 update will work this time? It stops at around 25% into the update. Thanks for any help.
Edit: I've tried a factory restore, i unrooted completely. My kernell is normal, my stock recovery is normal. The update just isn't working, and i don't know the best way to fix it. My bootloader is locked, so there was never any custom recovery or ROM's installed.
I'm having the same problem. I unrooted before the update but still not working. The update get's to about 25% of install then fails. I've tried about 4 or 5 times today. Factory rest and uninstalling root didn't help either

Exactly, i can't figure out what i'm supposed to do. Ive tried about that many times, and i've tried factory restoring, i've wiped the cache, etc.
Factory reset.
RSD to stock 4.1.2 in case some system app is missing.
Skip setup.
Try the update again.
Or just RSD to the new version.
Those would be my next steps.

I have found the solution, you have to edit the XML file that is in the ROM. and delete the lines containing the words ("oem" and "var"). then you put the phone in fastboot mode and use the rom with the modified file will have only about 18 steps then when the last file billboards will ask you turn on the phone manually and status, restart your phone and enter mode fastboot again and finished well. NOTE: remember to put the usb debugging before starting everything. everything you do will be at your own risk, but so what I Realize, and it worked and I have my razr m with kitkat and before I could not for the same reason of the root. thank you all

Droid Razr M Messed Up

So i wanted to go back to 4.1.2 on my droid razr m that was currently on 4.4.2, Personal Issues and lags were the problem.
I followed instructions on this site and now my phone turns on and everything now the touch is unresponsive it used to work before this stupid procedure. The link to the forum is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786016. Please help me when i did the steps it said flash failed on Ap Fastboot Mode. I would say that the Software got corrupted so Please reply back asap. With help.

No i didnt unlock the phone and my touch hasent work since i tried to downgrade i know the digitizer isnt loose. any solutions. Please help me and how do i use RSD
Download 4.4.2 and rsd 6.1.6 just boot your phone to fastboot menu then on your PC open rsd plug your phone into the PC with in rsd select the 4.4.2 zip and flash it... Then root using towelroot and unlock your boot loader... Then downgrade if you want..... Hopefully the fresh install of 4.4.2 will return touch if not then you may have a hardware issue... But idk this guy (I believe) tried a root method that if i remember correctly pretty much downgrades you(which you can't do on a locked boot loader) so you can root an older root method and is in the same boat
