Anyone getting any debris in their home buttons? I am noticing I did and now its making a weird sound whenever pressed. I've tried compressed air and that didn't work. Anyone have any suggestions on keeping debris or dirt out of the home button?
Ive noticed that too, the best ive been able to do is press one "Side" of the button and then blow air into the lifted up side and it seems to help, for a while.

Drives ya nuts though, doest it?
I took my phone to the beach for a few days and had the same problem. It was driving me nuts. I just kept blowing on the button and spam pressing it and eventually it moved. Haven't heard or felt the sand since. Eventually...it'll get out of there...and go elsewhere.

So for like the 3rd time my home button got something stuck under it today, and I think I finally found a solution.
1. Turn the device completely off.
2. Get a Q-tip and put a little bit of rubbing alcohol on it or windex
3. Gently dab the edges of the home button
4. Get compressed air and blow it all out
No more weird click!!! (You might have do this a few times)

Yeah the gaps on this phone are pretty interesting. The dust particularly picks up and stays between the bezel and the glass, and some between the home buttons. This was never much of a problem on the S3.

:good:You right but,
We can use air compressor, since we certify periodicaly that there's no liquids inside of it by opening the exhaust valve underneath it to remove any liquids that might be inside.
I work on an IT Division and we have here an air compressor that we use every day to clean inside of computers and never happened of damaging any until now.
Mine S4 also make this f***ing noise and sometimes it stops and sometimes it comes again... nothing seems to get rid of it for good.

exact same problem with my S4 i9505. very annoying. i put it to repair (still in warranty) but i don't think they would do something because replacing the home button requires replacement of the digitizer (which i don't think they might do)

I was done texting someone, so I put my phone down on my desk. I did it... less gently then usual, so it landed with a little "thud". It turned itself off. It turned back on fine, but is this normal?
On the battery cover there is a little hook to hold the center on securely, make sue it is still there and not broken/worn down. The pre had that problem when it first came out, an easy fix is to put a thin piece of foam or paper between the battery cover and the battery to ensure you dont have a momentary loss in power due to large accelerations.

Mmm-hmm, the hook is still there.
I have noticed that the cover will pop off when dropped(I have unintentionally tested to the extreme of my phone flying a good 10-20 feet in the air onto concrete). It could be possible that it moved just enough that the hook didn't hold.
Hopefully, you don't have a bad solder joint in there, which that issue could also be indicative of...
Good point. But really, 20 feet? That seems a bit much. The most I've dropped my Hero is about 5 feet from my face.

I was walking and slipped on some ice and ended up throwing it... I was on the phone at the time too.
I would try the folded paper/foam under the battery cover first. Remember, there is the high possibility that you will get a replacement with 2.1, but if you are going to get one with 1.5 the time would be now. If you have a Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol, it probably wouldn't hurt to clean the connection to the battery. Make sure none of the tabs all the way around your battery cover are broken, cause they may just be able to give you a new one of those.

None of the battery tabs are broken, cleaned the connections with some Isopropyl I had lying around, and put a peice of paper between the battery and the cover, without touching the camera or the hook that holds the cover on. If it keeps happening, I'll cross my fingers and go in for a replacement. Thanks for your help
EDIT: Just did a test by dropping it the same way I did earlier (about 2 inches off my desk) and it stayed on fine.

Sad times, it's not worth sending it into repairs is it - would superglue be sufficient?
Super glue can damage plastic and rubber, so your best to use industrial double sided tape or something else
is it rubber behind the button? of not then super glue could be ok, but if its rubber the glue will make it hard and affect how well the buttons work
omg how do you even manage to do that?
I am wondering the same thing

Literally no idea, I'm really careful with my phones, always been in a padded case - just picked it up today and saw it detached on my desk
Yeah it's rubber, so no superglue? Double sided tape will add too much thickness will it not? + it sounds pretty fidley - is there an alternative type of glue I could use?
liquid nails will not melt plastics or rubber.
Nitrocellulose based nail polish clearcoat. Works wonders as an adhesive, and won't melt plastics.

My volume button fell out too and i didnt notice so it was lost i emailed Sony but they said this prob would not be covered underwarrenty
Well it is starting to look like a fault in manufacturing process.. What models do you guys have.

Thanks for the suggestion guys, will try the nail polish thing
The whole warrenty thing is a little dodgey for me as I bought mine off ebay, but it was originally purchased pay as you go from Vodafone (UK) if that helps with the model number?
If your volume button is still to hand, just push it back into the phone.
Mine came out after owning the phone for a few weeks, whilst was using blue-tack and cardboard to build a make-shift dock at my desk at work.
The blue-tack was great at keeping the phone still and in place, however one time the volume button was pressed right into the blue-tack and when lefting my phone from it the volume rocker came out.
Its not come out since and there didnt seem to be any sign of glue in the phone holding it down in the first place.
Mine fell off too, but I don't know where it went
Just putting it out there that my xperia play volume controls fell off too. I can't seem to find any place to get just the volume rocker.
Am I the only one that finds this hilarious...

Mine fell off too, and yeah i find it hilarious.
Solution -
1) Buy some Marley Solvent Cement
Warning -
THIS IS TOXIC AND STRONG STUFF, DO NOT SNIFF (lol seriously dont), AND DO NOT GET IT IN ANY OTHER AREA ON YOUR PHONE BECAUSE IT DOES MELT PLASTIC.
2) Put a SMALL amount on the centre behind of the volume button.
3) Gently push back in place.
4) If some squeeze out the edges, QUICKLY use your fingernail to wipe the excess away.
The centre of the volume button will now be FUSED to the centre of the rocker. It will now NEVER fall off again. Seriously, DO NOT get this stuff on any other part of your phone because it will MELT the plastic. Do the job correctly and you will have a perfectly working volume button again with completely ZERO chance of it ever falling off.
Disclaimer - You have been warned about the potency of this stuff. Do not mess around with it unless you want your nose burned off your face or your phone melted into oblivion.
I do remember being warned that if you rub it up & down & up & down too much it will fall off
Hey guys, my volume rocker just fell out today, managed to find it and there is a little circle on the middle of it which most probably is where they put glue to stick it.
I try to fit it back in but through quick turning of the phone it falls out.
Would it be okay if I put just a TINY bit of superglue in the middle? It's gonna be touching the rubber which covers the internal volume buttons.

Hey everyone
My poor transformer has seen better days, here's the deal
I had a can of energy drink in my bag and it decided to open its self and left a puddle of liquid at the bottom of it, sadly that's where my transformer was. after a few hours of drying with a hair dryer I turned it on and surprisingly it turned on and is working fine other than the left hand side of the screen is now brighter the then the right (here's a picture of the screen https://www.dropbox.com/s/ci6m1y4abh8n0z6/IMG_20120731_113759.jpg). I rung asus and apparently gonna cost $300 + nz because they only replace the whole LCD panel which is far to much. touchscreen, volume rocker(volume rocker side got wet) etc all work fine (Im typing this off it now). Just want to know if anyone has any ideas about fixing it .
Cheers

You should have waited for few days before you turned it on... hair drier will dry out the moisture from outside, so what about inside ? So turn it off and let it dry out..... also don't over heat it, you might melt the plastic

lol i accidently turned it on trying to get the bezel off, then stripped the screw so now its gonna be a mission trying to get it open lol , i thought i had killed it when i saw it booting up but I left it and it's working fine so far i thought if i leave it running it might start drying it out internally. Im gonna probably try claim insurance on it so anythings worth a try atm lol
Is it worth claiming insurance (then getting an insurance raise) vs getting a new one if it is broken? Good luck, I wouldn't dry it with heat... just soak it in rice because the rice will soak it up..

Definitely try and get it open, possibly give it a rinse. The sugar and crap in the energy drink would eat away at bits you don't want to be eaten away.

Well you could try it with alcohol. I do it quite often with water damaged phones.
You turn the pad off open your TF101 - here I have to mention that I have never open a Transformer so I can't help you with that - if possible you remove the battery, protect the display and brush the damaged parts with something high in alcohol content (my drugstore has a 98% ethanol)
The idea with distilled water can help sometimes but I experienced often that it just worsen sharply

Dude... It's not hard at all. You can be a little rough with it. It is just plastic clips secured to an internal aluminum frame. Put a towel down on a flat surface, put your tab face down on the towel. Then take a thin object like a CC and work your way from the bottom where the USB port is up to the top and back down the other side.

By CC you mean Credit Card ? Even that is too thick to go through the gaps. The only thing that can do that is a nail but I chipped all of them trying to open it I see that it was very easy for you. Just put your nail in it and push, I do the same but something is wrong with this case.
Sand down one edge of it.
There's not a Nexus 7 I haven't gotten into (and I count over a dozen) in less than 15 seconds using the CC or a thin guitar pick. Once you get it in (I start by the usb) just slide it along. Easy peasey.
Maybe you're being too 'gentle'?

I finally managed to open it with a plastic spoon The spoon broke though...
That's generally a fairly brittle type of styrene plastic.
Do the CC or hotel room key thing in future. Almost no risk of damaging yourself or the N7 with a sharp, broken edge.

Normally I don't experience issues with my phones that I've seen online. Especially the whole "gapgate" Note 4 problem! But today I noticed my home button making a loud click noise when pressed. It was also a bit hard to push down. So I took a regular paper towel and put some alcohol on it. Just enough to make it damp. I then wiped the home button and around it. Then I used a can of air and blew over and around it. No more click and it's smooth as ever! Just thought I post this in case anyone else came across this issue. *Try at your own risk*
I did the same on the 2nd day of release having my note 4.. Had some juice on my hand from my son and wiped over the fingerprint and it got some between the button.. Alcohol seems to be the best for this as it dissipates leaving no liquid behind..

My Note 4 recently started doing this. Thanks for the info. I will try it tonight.
Strange, my home button never did this, though I've noticed some home buttons appearing recessed and some elevated above the display of the phone.
My home button won't sink in though it still register touches and fingerprint scanner works fine.
Unfortunately wiping the home button didn't correct it. I'm having it replaced under warranty.
Mine did the same for the first 2 months. Then it went away

So did they replace it?
Allow me~
So if you guys have seen me around, I am one of the guys who was on the forum about Note 4 bezels and replacing them. I replaced my Note 4 (black) with a gold bezel and power/volume buttons. Which definitely was easy as heck to do. Anyways, the point I'm going to mention is this:
The power button is supposed to be clicky, but not like those found on iPhone or Samsung S6/S6E. As they said prior, you can place alcohol into that area and it will help that problem with a sticky button. What I presume is some of the adhesive that keeps the screen down on the main board (NOT REFERRING TO THE LCD ADHESIVE TO THE GLASS) gets in the way and makes it sticky. The adhesive is some weird mix between some silicone or whatever. It feels almost like tar, in terms when heated its stretchy but pretty stiff when back to normal temps.
As for the dropping of the home button, that is caused by the mUSB port not being pushed up enough by the bezel. Basically, the mUSB port is not applied enough upward pressure by the bezel to keep it sitting flush. What is interesting is that this can also constitute to something where the home button is mushy and doesn't click. Not in the sense of "sticky" but as the point of just no tactile feedback, such as a click feeling or sound.
As for the "gapgate" issue, I just placed some silicone in between the cracks, between the glass and the aluminum bezel, and pushed it in. Then grabbing a cloth and removing the excess while smoothing the stuff in the cracks by going in a single direction. Let the stuff dry and its golden. Remember to tape off the earpiece, mic holes, and other stuff.
If anyone needs some pics on what I said above, let me know and I'll try getting those in.

anybody trying this alcohol treatment to the home button, I strongly suggest you turn off the phone and take off the battery while doing so. before turning it back on, also make sure it's totally dried off. you can use a hair drier to make sure....
does this happen after a while?
Thanks for this! Mine has always been that way. Painfully loud click. Like I broke something. Used an alcohol wipe (phone off) and I get a nice soft press now. Click is like my wife's Note 3 now. Much, much better.
I found the best solution... an app called " Swype Home". With a little swap from the home button to the screen acts like thehome button and goes
even more faster than clicking.. and it fixes the obsolescence of the button... works like a charm.

I'm trying to understand how the microusb port is blocking the button, is there any way you can explain it, and is it an easy fix? I just got a used note 4 and the home button doesn't click in.
