My case Dilemma- need ur thoughts

OK managed to snatch one of the only/few tilts available in my area last Friday and now, after a week of use I've noticed I hate the ATT case I bought: The leather, plastic clip, top-loading case, SUCKS!
I work in an ER so speed, quality, ease of use is paramount. My major problem with this case is that 1. I press buttons trying to pull it out and 2. the belt clip is not centered well so when I try to orient it horizontally on my scrubs the opening end tips downward toward the floor.
SO, I've been searching around the forums, looked at a TON of different cases. So far I like the look of this: http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=10100000_900000_11000164&products_id=6562
BUT I don't like the plastic over the keyboard and how annoying is that flap when you're trying to talk on the phone? I don't want to be fiddling with a GD flap while talking. Does the flap flip all the way back on itself?
SO, I need a well-balanced, high quality plastic clip (quick releases are good), that does not have cumbersome flaps (or at least has flaps that fold back on the case/go away when used as a phone).

I received mine this week and am satisfied. There is no hole to access the reset button, but that's a minor issue.

It seems that you can't slide the keyboard out when using this case... am I mistaken?

I don't know about the book-style case, but I have the PDAir flip case, which has the flap hinge at the bottom. On that case, the front flap folds back very nicely. The snap strap on the top that holds the front flap closed doesn't fold back so well, but I've only had the case 2 weeks so it'll probably loosen up a bit over time.

To slide the keyboard, you do need to unsnap the cover and fold it back. The phone can still be left in the case. I rarely use the keyboard, but this could be a major issue for those that do.

I think I need something that protects the screen too... I'll have to think it over...

Sorry, I have no pictures. There are images without the phone on the Boxwave site.
There have not been any problems with the clip and screw.
I do use a screen protector, but this case does leave the screen open, a feature I was seeking.

Replacement battery cover

I hope these come out soon. I really dislike how slick the entire phone is. When trying to have a phone conversation, and trying to rest it on your shoulder, holding it between your shoulder and face, it slides right out...

Same here. TMo was suppose to start doing the custom printed covers, but they are slick as well. It was 100 degrees yesterday and sweat doesn't help when you're trying to silde it open one handed either. TMobile has a rubberized shell for it, but it was way too bulky.

Yeah, I meant to mention those "skins" too, I am not a fan of those. One of my praises for this phone was it's slim profile, and adding one of those skins would make it just that more bulky. I like the material on the back of the Droid.

I like the battery cover on the back of the original MyTouch 3g, other then the fact that it slides open way to easy...

Have y'all looked into eGrips. Might be worth it for now.

Well again, those I am not a fan of. First: I am not sure how those attach, and if it is simply a stick-on, I'd hate to have it leave a residue when you go to remove it. And since it's a cover on a cover, it starts increasing bulk. If someone would come out with a replacement cover, just in a different material, I'd be happy
Edit: I also don't want something that would make it a pain to slide in and out of my pocket... those super grippy type covers do just that. They're great at keeping them in place on a car dash, or on your shoulder, but it's likely going to turn your pocket inside out, leaving you open to being bum rushed when the change falls out of your pocket.

Eh, maybe I am old fashioned, but I hate headsets more than the battery cover I rarely use the phone in my car, so I see little use of the headset. Actually, I only use the headset when listening to my music.
OH, which BTW, if you used Subsonic, now you can browser your server using the phone's browser since it has Flash support, no need for the Subsonic app Maybe I'll post that in the apps thread...

The phone is great but it is way to slippery.
I was thinking of maybe taping off parts of just the back cover and spraying on a product called Plasti Dip just to give it a thin rubber coating.

I'm very familiar with plasti dip, and thats not a bad idea...

I put on some ghost armor on my device. It makes it a little more slip resistant. It was at one of the mall shops at a local mall.

Agreed on the slippin slide. I have a bench seat in my truck so i have to keep a t-shirt on the seat to hold my phone in place. (while streaming pandora into my stereo!)
So since gel skins have YET to show up at my T-mo store... I have been contemplating how to spray paint it or rubber coat it... If someone is bold enough I would love to see the photos.
Here are the potential problems
1. the holes in the back for the speaker.. we can porbably just poke them out with a pin after spraying.. hopefully it still looks pro
2. i started to pull off the front plastic and it seemed like the plastic screen cover was connected.. not sure if I want to mess with that... but it might look lame if the front doesnt match.
Possible anti-slide solutions...??
- some sort of stick on rubber tread that looks cool??Maybe if we find a cool piece of rubber tread that is made to stick on or we glue it one it could look cool and stop the damn phone from sliding.
p.s. my dream would be for someone to make a metal cover like the nexus (no i dont want a nexus I just like the finish that looks like an adults phone) with rubber tread lines built into it.. maybe I need to find a manufacturer. ..

I hate the slick back cover as well, i miss the cover on my G1 its the non-slick bio-hazard one. just the type of grip makes it great to slide in and out of pocket, less scratches, easier keyboard slide out.
Its too glossy for my taste i have to wipe the whole phone when im done with it for the night to make sure the finger prints are gone, gets annoying.

i'm looking for a nice matte cover as well, i hate the slickness(i dropped my phone because it slid out of my pocket). worst case scenario i might grab a replacement black one and sand it to a matte texture.

I am about to spray it with a satin black car trim spray... and if that doesn't work the next step will be a rubberized spray I think... Will post if it doesn't look like complete garbage lol

Well I hate to get ahead of myself but here is my rubber coated battery cover.. I am still waiting so patiently for it to completely dry. If what I used works then I will post a photo how to . Hang in there!

What product did you use on that, and did you tape off the holes or just poke them out with a toothpick type device?

anybody tried opening the tab 7.7

Does anyone here tried opening their tab or is there any link about the disassembly . I've looked everywhere but just cant seems to find any .

Where's an iFixit teardown when you need one?
I guess these things are too expensive to be guinea pigs and the process is probably like the later Samsung tablets -- no screws, all snap together and with the aluminum back a high risk of damage.

It just snaps apart. The screen lifts from the housing. It's very tight though, be prepared to spend about 10 minutes (and a few hand cramps!) separating all 22 clips on each side. Phew. It's also easiest to lift from the bottom, near the charging port so you don't damage the headset jack.

Yep! Very easy. It just snaps back together.
Slide the screen into the top part of the housing first, realigning the chrome headset jack cover so it doesn't slip (that thing is a pain!), then snap the rest back into place.

Your awesome Nae how did you open it can you give me some instruction i mean a video on how you open it?

Got it removed men that was nerve wracking. The problem is i forgot to remove my 32gb microsd next thing i know is that my card was cut into half , oh well.
Reason why i want it open is because i want to remove the small ding on the case. After removing the case i put a small magnet and small metal screw on the otherside to pinpoint the dent then i start rubbing it using the screw drivers handle and after a minute the dent is gone! Yesssssss thanks again for the instruction.

It wasnt that hard. I used the bigger part from my simcard you know ehere you have to press out your tiny sim. Put my nail between screen and case en the inserted the card and pushed it deep then wikkle it around and the case is loose 30sec work.

You can use this Blue Plastic Opener to easily separate the screen and the panel.

The back cover can be changed. It is available through a Samsung Service provider in your region. I guess it cost about US$ 25.

HTC One Teardown (Really not that bad)

Hey Guys i recently dropped my device into some water, no biggie device still worked and everything, but it was an excuse to get a device with slightly better Bin, so i filed a insurance replacement. So i figured i had already screwed it up, why not take it apart before sending it back.....
As with probably everyone we have all seen the IFIXIT tear-down of our device and they had some issues taking it apart, and even damaging the plastic bezel on the housing. So i was intimidated, but i wanted to see if it really was that hard.....
Guys its NOT HARD AT ALL....The hardest part is the plastic on the sides is actually pretty soft, but the only damage i had was before i heated the device up i tried trying to pry the speaker cover off with just a screwdriver (bad idea). This gave me some very very slight damage where i was prying against the plastic. With the heat and then pry this wont happen. (the adhesive is ridiculous by the way, some very strong stuff (I blame 3M)
Step 1: Heat up device with a hairdryer at the bottom speaker cover, your going to need to get it pretty hot (be careful, your speaker is under that)
Step 2: With device still nice and toasty take a spreader ( i used a guitar pick, but i was thinking a hot razor blade slid under might be more effective)
Step 3: Gently work spreader under speaker cover and work from one end to the other, I used a razor blade to get a gab and then work it off, wasn't to hard since the adhesive is warm and easy to peel off the cover. (be careful, you still have to use that adhesive to put it back on, or use another adhesive)
Step 4: Once bottom speaker cover is off take your spreader and place it between the black part of the housing and the silver part (essentially the phone is placed in a aluminum shell, and you need to get it out).
Step 5: With Spreader placed between the chases gently slide from one end to the other, on the right side by the speaker cover is a white tab, slowly leverage this tab separating the black housing from the silver housing, then pry up from one side to the other tell you get a decent gap.
Step 6: Take your separator and go a side of your phone, doesn't matter which one is done first, just like the previous step, place your spreader between the black housing from the silver, and gently slide from the bottom up, if your doing it right you will hear 3 clicks and that side is separated.
Step 7: Take your spreader and repeat Step 6 on the other side until you hear three clicks.
Step 8: Take spreader back to the bottom and gently pry up pulling the black housing out of the silver Back housing, while doing this you may need another spreader to pry the bottom and then go around the sides to make sure it comes out freely.

Man, excellent photos showing us the goods. What i wanna know is that the heck causes the power button to sink in the way it does. Seems hit and miss with these. Some people get very responsive power buttons, others get mushy clicky feels. Weird.

I couldnt do that to my phone. Were you able to put it back together and have it still look good and function as before?

Yes it works just fine, i have been abusing it on purpose, it has yet to screw up, I love this phone. But i have to send it in here soon lol

Here is the power button, it has a black sticker over the top, but the button is just a little piece of plastic that pushes the little button, not much contact area really.

Iiiiinteresting. I remember when the HTC One X was new, i took that think apart and bent the casing of it and ended up cracking the plastic casing. Made me sad, then i found all the parts on ebay to get it back to "mint" condition. Exciting. :good:

Yea I'm in cali and got my medical license. Smoke on!!!! Anyways. I got a gap on top speaker cover. Is it held on with adhesive?? I'm thinking about using a hair drier to heat it up and hopefully get rid of the gap.. if you can get picture of back side of top speaker grill I would greatly appreciate it. :thumbup: thank you in advance

Here you go.....just adhesive and a screw thats in the inside, my replacement has I gap to.....but haven't played yet to fix it....

If you have a gap, there is no need to take the phone apart.
Just get some super glue in there and clamp tight.

In the picture, it seems you have thoroughly torn down the entire phone.
Some people may wish to simply change the speaker grills or the rear case (metal + plastic sides). On a scale of 1-10, how hard would that be?

Do speaker grills snap back in?

I replaced my screen today and had to pull out the old front flash and the speaker grill since the replacement didn't have those.
I figured the grills would snap right in, but these definitely don't. I'm sure i can find a way to get them in there, but before i did anything somewhat drastic, was curious if anyone here has had luck getting them back in with simple snap (after the whole phone is reassembled), or if i need to go down another path.

Did you try puting them back in just like you removed them? Why cant you put them back, too big etc??

Thanks for the replies. The ifixit video doesn't seem to address the grills. What I'm actually talking about is the colored bars that sit on the speaker openings (that we can customize via motomaker). The replacement screen I bought didn't come with those (just a grill opening with two small rectangle holes in them). So, on my old screen, I was able to pop out those grill/bars. They are straight plastic bars with two tabs on them. The tabs look like they should pop right in those two holes on the replacement grill opening, but they definitely don't go in with a simple snap. I've tried pushing pretty hard to get them in, but am nervous about breaking the plastic, or worse, hurting the new screen. So, for now, they are left out- which is ok - but if i'm just doing something dumb or missing some trick, I'd definitely prefer to have them in there.

Yes! That is exactly it. Can you snap that in and out very easily? I was able to snap mine out of the old, but they definitely don't snap easily into the replacement.

After- I didn't expect it to be a problem, so i closed everything up and resealed the backing and everything. Then ran into the issue.
If someone happened to know that for some reason, they will snap in if the LCD is out, then i'd probably open things up again at some point. But that doesn't seem likely, so I'm not going to do all of that just on the odd chance it makes a difference.

yea thats the problem the lcd must not be attached to snap it back in, if you think about it something underneath must be holding it, so now there is no space, you must remove the frame put the protector back in and then close it

i think i remember someone on some forum saying motorola just used double sided sticky tape for the grills.... mine are also loose and wiggle about a lot and looking for a solution to make them unmovable.

My bottom one is loose. So far not to annoying but still...

Hi, my moto X is on its way, and I fix cellphones for a living. On the Nexus 6 the grills snap in and are very difficult about it. What I do is take the grill, lign it up to the opening and then fold a micro fiber cloth or something similar, and take a curved pair of pliers and compress the grill in. I typically do this before replacing the frame assebly. I've not done a pure yet, hopefully I don't ever have to

My bottom one wiggles at lot. Basically every time I use the phone the first thing i do is center it. Have you had any such experience? Should I attempt to take it off and reinsert them?
Also my top one was pretty sturdy first 3 months. Now its also moving and also rumbles/rattles a little with the music playing at full volume. If i press it down while the musics playing the rattling goes away (though i have to hold it precisely in place)

Hey glad to help, those are a pain to open over and over again haha. Nothing like getting them together and totally forgetting the speaker grills haha.

You could try removing them and swapping them, or you could try pressing them in further with a pair of pliers as I detailed above, or possibly they're just loose, and a small dot of super glue could do the trick. Be careful taking them out, they're easily marred. Maybe provide us a picture of how they look and we can determine if they're just loose. Like a profile view a horizontal view from the left side and an isometric type photo

Do you mean the metal bar? It has barbed points that press into the matching slots. It's a one-time mating that tears open the slots when they're removed. They tend to fall out of Moto/Leno's refurbished phones and the same may happen for a salvaged screen. You can stir some Crazy Glue in the slots with a tiny steel wire until it starts to gel, then press the bar in.

Any other techniques for getting these things in? I cant get mine in the assembly for the life of me, no matter how much force i use.
