My Volume Button Fell Off @[email protected] - Xperia Play General

Sad times, it's not worth sending it into repairs is it - would superglue be sufficient?

Super glue can damage plastic and rubber, so your best to use industrial double sided tape or something else
is it rubber behind the button? of not then super glue could be ok, but if its rubber the glue will make it hard and affect how well the buttons work

omg how do you even manage to do that?

I am wondering the same thing
Sent from my R800i using XDA Premium App

Literally no idea, I'm really careful with my phones, always been in a padded case - just picked it up today and saw it detached on my desk
Yeah it's rubber, so no superglue? Double sided tape will add too much thickness will it not? + it sounds pretty fidley - is there an alternative type of glue I could use?

liquid nails will not melt plastics or rubber.

Nitrocellulose based nail polish clearcoat. Works wonders as an adhesive, and won't melt plastics.

just send it to repairs xD? I don't think root voids the hardware warranty ?

My volume button fell out too and i didnt notice so it was lost i emailed Sony but they said this prob would not be covered underwarrenty

Well it is starting to look like a fault in manufacturing process.. What models do you guys have.
Sent from my R800i using XDA Premium App

Thanks for the suggestion guys, will try the nail polish thing
The whole warrenty thing is a little dodgey for me as I bought mine off ebay, but it was originally purchased pay as you go from Vodafone (UK) if that helps with the model number?

If your volume button is still to hand, just push it back into the phone.
Mine came out after owning the phone for a few weeks, whilst was using blue-tack and cardboard to build a make-shift dock at my desk at work.
The blue-tack was great at keeping the phone still and in place, however one time the volume button was pressed right into the blue-tack and when lefting my phone from it the volume rocker came out.
Its not come out since and there didnt seem to be any sign of glue in the phone holding it down in the first place.

Mine fell off too, but I don't know where it went
Just putting it out there that my xperia play volume controls fell off too. I can't seem to find any place to get just the volume rocker.

Am I the only one that finds this hilarious...

Mine fell off too, and yeah i find it hilarious.
Solution -
1) Buy some Marley Solvent Cement
Warning -
THIS IS TOXIC AND STRONG STUFF, DO NOT SNIFF (lol seriously dont), AND DO NOT GET IT IN ANY OTHER AREA ON YOUR PHONE BECAUSE IT DOES MELT PLASTIC.
2) Put a SMALL amount on the centre behind of the volume button.
3) Gently push back in place.
4) If some squeeze out the edges, QUICKLY use your fingernail to wipe the excess away.
The centre of the volume button will now be FUSED to the centre of the rocker. It will now NEVER fall off again. Seriously, DO NOT get this stuff on any other part of your phone because it will MELT the plastic. Do the job correctly and you will have a perfectly working volume button again with completely ZERO chance of it ever falling off.
Disclaimer - You have been warned about the potency of this stuff. Do not mess around with it unless you want your nose burned off your face or your phone melted into oblivion.

I do remember being warned that if you rub it up & down & up & down too much it will fall off

Hey guys, my volume rocker just fell out today, managed to find it and there is a little circle on the middle of it which most probably is where they put glue to stick it.
I try to fit it back in but through quick turning of the phone it falls out.
Would it be okay if I put just a TINY bit of superglue in the middle? It's gonna be touching the rubber which covers the internal volume buttons.

I wouldn't recommend superglue, one slip and you will ruin it.. try araldite plastic glue it would be better.. about 3.99gbp most places

I've got a problem with my shoulder buttons.
They have become very stiff and are hard to press down. They get stuck. Any ideas how I can get them a bit loose so I can press them down?
Thanks !

xda exec screen hinge

The short answer is - you can't
The long answer: the screws you can see hold the LCD casing to the hinge, the 'tightness' is controlled by the pivot itself. There is a convex washer in the pivot pushing one section against the other. At rest fully open or closed, this is bowed, and when the hinge is halfway opened it compresses.
Your washer has become slackened and is no longer pushing the two parts together as hard as it did. You can strip the unit and try bending the washer back but it's tightly affixed to the pivot post, or you could replace the hinge - I have spares - but do you really want to void your warranty unless you need to?
Richard
Damn that sucks I thought those jewellers size screws would control the hinge tightness but your right they are obviously for the screen fastening.
bugger if the hinge becomes loose really is no alternative but to send her off to the shop.
Does that mean that the more you rotate it into the 2 positions, it will get more loose?
Does it take a very skillful technician to open it up, tighten it and put it back, or anyone from the Universal's local distributor's repair shop can do the job?
Honestly, I do not trust those guy's skill/knowledge on Universal, as many question/problems which I talk/email to them, no good answer can be provide by them or their HQ in Taiwan.
Do you have a picture of the parts?
Anyway, the kind of support for this expensive toy from HTC is really bad, I think there is enough complains on this website and other website as well.
I have solved my hinge loose problem.
1. Turn the screen to half way position, that is neither computer (landscape) nor pda (portrait) mode.
2. Tighten the screw (on the body, not on the screen) that can be seen in the half way position.
It is not shaking anymore.

I have already done this and am sorry to say that it will come loose again very quickly! It's a poorly designed hinge imho. If anyone has a more permanent fix then we will be glad to hear it.

How about wrapping it with adhesive tape. LOL (joke)
How about using some of that screw "goo", loctite I think it is called?
Which bit of the hinge mechanism are we saying is loose here? Is it the "lift" hinge that is loose so that when in computer (landscape) mode it has a tendancy to fall backwards as you use it or are we talkingabout the 'twist' rotational hinge to flip the screen around?
Cheers,
Steve
for me its the lift hinge thats slightly loose.
The "lift" hinge I am talking about.
The other hinge seems to be still ok now. Is clamshell open/close loose? Guess this will be difficult to fixed. Can share your experience?
BIG BALLS AND A STRONG DRINK DID THE TRICK!
well i got mine back to new stiffness. How I did it you may ask...well, it took alot of BALLS and a good strong drink. I used the manual from on this board and stripped the device down to bone...bent the metal palte concave to get a better grip on the left right rotations and added tape on the cylinder shafts for the up/down stiffness...I even added a ball of glue in the housing to keep the pointer in secure...took my time and got good results...It is possible but it's alot of work!

HTC Desire HD - Battery cover not flush.

Hello all.
This is my 1st post on here.
I have received my DHD and the battery cover doesn't seem flush from the front. So much so that when trying to find the volume buttons by touch I always press the battery cover instead.
Is anyone else's like this. Wonder if I should get it exchanged.
Many thanks.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Same here, I feel as though it needs to be pushed down more..even though it seems secure. There does seem to be a very slight raised lip.
I feel that my battery cover is secured really well. It's solid as a rock and requires quite a bit of effort to remove.
I do wish the volume buttons were more distinct (i.e. separate or at least with a feelable division between up and down) and stuck out a bit more.
how do you take the battery out of the phone ? mine seams like its stuck in lol

I also find the volume buttons quite hard to feel, especially through the silicone case my phone is in.
I've ended up putting a volume widget on my home screen, as I'm only ever toggling between volume on and silent anyway.

OK. Thanks for your help.
Looks like I'll have to put up with it.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
When I got my DHD and went to remove the plastic slip from the battery, I noticed that the battery compartment cover was not flush with the alumiium chassis. So much so, that it was a nightmare taking it off. After exerting a little more force than I'd have liked, I got it to pop off by sliding a fingernail up along the volume switch.
When it came to putting it back on, I noticed there is some "give" at the two narrow sides of the cover - it is possible to get it flush by trial and error. I was surprised that was the case but there ya go, it can be done.
i nearly returned a phone cause of this but if you remove it make sure the back is slid into place, and push down on both sides of the volume rocker at the same time it will fit flush mine was like yours took me 3 attempts to fit it
Exactly the same problem.
Should I get it replaced?
Both DHD covers are dodgy in my experience. Once you get them to fit, don't touch them. Both covers feel as if they'd suffer very easily from mechanical wear and tear.
It seems to me HTC have multiple versions of the covers with slightly different shapes. My SIM cover has a small piece of plastic/gum glued onto it to level its height towards the SD card area. I suspect a dodgy manufacturing batch which they augmented rather than ditched for a new one.
I'm yet to see a perfect fit of the covers.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
The covers fit perfectly. The problem is getting them in right. Once they're in they're perfect.

Samsung have white in stock again.

yay i finally have a white galaxy s.
Have been waiting 2 weeks or so for samsung to get the battery cover back in stock.

Now you only have to wipe it down once a day.
Really want but don't feel like tearing down my phone that far. I had that inside casing out on the weekend, it was a big enough pain in the ass (although probably the hardest part) and would only allow me to get at the buttons, didn't have the bezel off.
I did that because there was a gap at the bottom when cover was on, turned out that interior plastic was not sitting on the the proper support inside at the bottom, it was mushed down onto the part of that brace that sticks up more. I have had a minor drop since I got the phone back from repair but given the nature of the damage I think it must have happened when the repair centre put the phone back together. Reshaped that bit of plastic and all is right again.

HTC One Teardown (Really not that bad)

Hey Guys i recently dropped my device into some water, no biggie device still worked and everything, but it was an excuse to get a device with slightly better Bin, so i filed a insurance replacement. So i figured i had already screwed it up, why not take it apart before sending it back.....
As with probably everyone we have all seen the IFIXIT tear-down of our device and they had some issues taking it apart, and even damaging the plastic bezel on the housing. So i was intimidated, but i wanted to see if it really was that hard.....
Guys its NOT HARD AT ALL....The hardest part is the plastic on the sides is actually pretty soft, but the only damage i had was before i heated the device up i tried trying to pry the speaker cover off with just a screwdriver (bad idea). This gave me some very very slight damage where i was prying against the plastic. With the heat and then pry this wont happen. (the adhesive is ridiculous by the way, some very strong stuff (I blame 3M)
Step 1: Heat up device with a hairdryer at the bottom speaker cover, your going to need to get it pretty hot (be careful, your speaker is under that)
Step 2: With device still nice and toasty take a spreader ( i used a guitar pick, but i was thinking a hot razor blade slid under might be more effective)
Step 3: Gently work spreader under speaker cover and work from one end to the other, I used a razor blade to get a gab and then work it off, wasn't to hard since the adhesive is warm and easy to peel off the cover. (be careful, you still have to use that adhesive to put it back on, or use another adhesive)
Step 4: Once bottom speaker cover is off take your spreader and place it between the black part of the housing and the silver part (essentially the phone is placed in a aluminum shell, and you need to get it out).
Step 5: With Spreader placed between the chases gently slide from one end to the other, on the right side by the speaker cover is a white tab, slowly leverage this tab separating the black housing from the silver housing, then pry up from one side to the other tell you get a decent gap.
Step 6: Take your separator and go a side of your phone, doesn't matter which one is done first, just like the previous step, place your spreader between the black housing from the silver, and gently slide from the bottom up, if your doing it right you will hear 3 clicks and that side is separated.
Step 7: Take your spreader and repeat Step 6 on the other side until you hear three clicks.
Step 8: Take spreader back to the bottom and gently pry up pulling the black housing out of the silver Back housing, while doing this you may need another spreader to pry the bottom and then go around the sides to make sure it comes out freely.
Man, excellent photos showing us the goods. What i wanna know is that the heck causes the power button to sink in the way it does. Seems hit and miss with these. Some people get very responsive power buttons, others get mushy clicky feels. Weird.
I couldnt do that to my phone. Were you able to put it back together and have it still look good and function as before?

If you have a gap, there is no need to take the phone apart.
Just get some super glue in there and clamp tight.
And here are the OEM replacement parts if you screw up
http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-htc-one-rear-housing.html
I was wondering. Is it possible to ONLY touch the body (ie the housing + speaker grills) and replace them? There are a lot of people who scratched their ones and may want to replace the outside.

In the picture, it seems you have thoroughly torn down the entire phone.
Some people may wish to simply change the speaker grills or the rear case (metal + plastic sides). On a scale of 1-10, how hard would that be?

Home button sticking/clicking *FIX*

Normally I don't experience issues with my phones that I've seen online. Especially the whole "gapgate" Note 4 problem! But today I noticed my home button making a loud click noise when pressed. It was also a bit hard to push down. So I took a regular paper towel and put some alcohol on it. Just enough to make it damp. I then wiped the home button and around it. Then I used a can of air and blew over and around it. No more click and it's smooth as ever! Just thought I post this in case anyone else came across this issue. *Try at your own risk*
I did the same on the 2nd day of release having my note 4.. Had some juice on my hand from my son and wiped over the fingerprint and it got some between the button.. Alcohol seems to be the best for this as it dissipates leaving no liquid behind..

My Note 4 recently started doing this. Thanks for the info. I will try it tonight.
Strange, my home button never did this, though I've noticed some home buttons appearing recessed and some elevated above the display of the phone.
My home button won't sink in though it still register touches and fingerprint scanner works fine.
Unfortunately wiping the home button didn't correct it. I'm having it replaced under warranty.

So did they replace it?
Allow me~
So if you guys have seen me around, I am one of the guys who was on the forum about Note 4 bezels and replacing them. I replaced my Note 4 (black) with a gold bezel and power/volume buttons. Which definitely was easy as heck to do. Anyways, the point I'm going to mention is this:
The power button is supposed to be clicky, but not like those found on iPhone or Samsung S6/S6E. As they said prior, you can place alcohol into that area and it will help that problem with a sticky button. What I presume is some of the adhesive that keeps the screen down on the main board (NOT REFERRING TO THE LCD ADHESIVE TO THE GLASS) gets in the way and makes it sticky. The adhesive is some weird mix between some silicone or whatever. It feels almost like tar, in terms when heated its stretchy but pretty stiff when back to normal temps.
As for the dropping of the home button, that is caused by the mUSB port not being pushed up enough by the bezel. Basically, the mUSB port is not applied enough upward pressure by the bezel to keep it sitting flush. What is interesting is that this can also constitute to something where the home button is mushy and doesn't click. Not in the sense of "sticky" but as the point of just no tactile feedback, such as a click feeling or sound.
As for the "gapgate" issue, I just placed some silicone in between the cracks, between the glass and the aluminum bezel, and pushed it in. Then grabbing a cloth and removing the excess while smoothing the stuff in the cracks by going in a single direction. Let the stuff dry and its golden. Remember to tape off the earpiece, mic holes, and other stuff.
If anyone needs some pics on what I said above, let me know and I'll try getting those in.

anybody trying this alcohol treatment to the home button, I strongly suggest you turn off the phone and take off the battery while doing so. before turning it back on, also make sure it's totally dried off. you can use a hair drier to make sure....
does this happen after a while?
Thanks for this! Mine has always been that way. Painfully loud click. Like I broke something. Used an alcohol wipe (phone off) and I get a nice soft press now. Click is like my wife's Note 3 now. Much, much better.
I found the best solution... an app called " Swype Home". With a little swap from the home button to the screen acts like thehome button and goes
even more faster than clicking.. and it fixes the obsolescence of the button... works like a charm.
