So. My sister recently got a Verizon Galaxy S4 (i have no idea what model # or anything, as she lives on the other side of town) and she recently dropped it down some concrete stairs. She ended up breaking the screen (and possibly the digitizer) but the device still turns on. The blue light in the top left comes on, and the soft keys light up. Shes in desperate need of help because parts of her upcoming wedding plans (stored in pics, docs, and pdfs) are trapped inside this now half broken phone. She is unrooted, did not have USB debug enabled, and had a pin code on her phone. Is there any way i can adb in, or connect it to some program (win7) that would be able to pull all her internal sd card files and dump them on my computer? Any help is much appreciated.

You shouldn't need usb debugging enabled if you just want to connect your phone to a computer. Windows should load the drivers and display it as an mtp device and give you access to the ext sd and the internal sd. I don't know about the pin code. I can't remember if I had to unlock my phone before connecting it to the pc or not.

Will try. Im visiting her later this week and will take it home then. I know on my htc, if you have a passcode lock you have to plug it in and unlock at least once before it gives access :/

Correct. You'll have to do the unlock code to gain access.
Maybe you can find a remote desktop like app to remote control the device.

Do you know of any app like that? And if i knew the pin, is there anyway i could unlock it remotely?

So today I had to visit the local VZW store to get my SD Card replaced because it was corrupted somehow, and now whenever I mount the sd card on my pc it shows up as a CD Drive and I am unable to access it. I've tried mounting it on another pc and it works perfectly fine though which leads me to believe its something to do with my pc. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the usb drivers 3 times now and getting no where fast, anyone have an idea on what I can do?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
BTW, running DJ05 w/ Geeknik 1.5.4 kernel with Super clean, but I dont think it has anything to do with it as even stock out of the box it wont detect it.

Try using Windows System Restore to revert back to SEVERAL days before a known-good date. Otherwise you may need to reformat and move this to a Windows Support Forum. If you need professional assistance, i run a tech support company and could have someone walk you through the whole process via phone and internet for $50.

No access to SD card
I'm having a similar problem with mine as well. I installed DJ05 and ever since I haven't been able to access my card. I'm not an expert but I don't think it's windows. The reason I say that is because I have tried it on two different pc's, one with XP and the other with Win 7. I have no problem connecting my wife's Droid to either machine. The only way I have been able to access my card is by turning on usb debugging plug in the usb cable and reboot the phone. This works one time, so each time I want to access the card I have to repeat the steps. I know this may not be exactly what you are looking for but maybe it will help in your efforts to find a solution. If anyone can help I would appreciate it as well. Thanks
I am willing to bet the OP is running windows XP. This, among many other problems, was apparent when using mass storage devices. Common reasons were system not up to date, or the more common, infected system. Many systems I work with have some malware causing the problem you describe.
After 43 minutes on the phone with Verizon they also couldn't figure out what my problem is. I recieved a new phone today and is well. Thanks for the help.
boot into Clock work recovery (red voodoo one)
Mount SD card
then reboot the phone while plugged in and it should be fine
I am a newb when it comes to android, so please bear with me. I cannot for the life of me get my Continuum dl17 unrooted to mount on my computer. I use a late 2010 13" MacBook pro (10.6.6) as my main rig, with VMWare Fusion installed. I have an XP clone, a Win 7 clone and a Ubuntu clone. I am unsuccessful mounting the phone in any of these.
When I first connect the phone to any of the computers/virtual machines I see what looks like a Verizon CD that tries to install the driver (No Mac Driver | I'll get to that later) The CD the disappears, I swipe down the notifications on the phone and choose Mount the SD to no avail.
I downloaded the drivers from Samsung...nothing. I have tried mounting with USB debugging and without...nothing.
When I try to mount to the Mac I get an error that the Mac cannot read the disk and do I want to initialize. (oddly enough If I unmount the sd card and put it in my card reader I can transfer files just fine using the Mac)
I really want to root the phone, but that is impossible when you cannot get the phone to be recognized my your computer.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. (BTW I have tried everything that I could find to troubleshoot this before I posted)
Thanks
The DL17 update broke the USB functionality on the Continuum. Please, complain LOUDLY to Verizon. If you can get an unupdated phone as a trade-in that might be best.

Thank you! I will complain LOUDLY to Verizon.
Yeah, I don't believe z4root works after the update, either, at least it didn't for me. Don't you have a friend with a pc? It doesn't take long to root...

You don't need USB storage to root, just turn on debugging.

I have the DL17 on my SCH-I400 and I just managed to connect to it via ADB (thanks to this post).
Can you explain what you mean by "broke the USB functionality"?
I've been running Mac OS Lion for the last almost 2 months on my Alienware M11x, so I know the pain of trying to get the Continuum to mount on a Mac. It won't work unless you're running a Froyo ROM. There isn't an easier answer, believe me, I tried!
Even then, when running Froyo, USB debugging will time out after a few minutes. I'm going to flash EC07, and see if it improves that problem.
Didn't see this over here, posting for people who don't check Rootz. I'll just post his description here. Downloads and instructions in the OG thread. Now for the good stuff:
From the README: TPDebrick v0.1 by jcsullins
===========================
TPDebrick is a set of files and scripts used to "de-brick" HP Touchpads. This process should allow the revival of Touchpads that cannot boot (only gives QDLoader mode) due to corrupted partitioning or bootloaders. Note that this should allow you to get into bootie (webOS) recovery mode. Additional steps may be needed after that to restore the bootie configuration or Operating System (i.e. webOS doctor).

thanks, will save it somewhere to try when i got a bug (hope not )
tpdebrick v004 is out, saved a co-workers touchpad today :good:
I may be in need of using this on my touchpad. I can't seem to revive it from the battery with question mark. After having mistakenly let the battery get so low it auto powered off while running CM9. My questions before proceeding with this are:
Am I doing the power + vol up + home correctly? Am I supposed to do it while plugged into a PC or wall outlet or while not plugged in to get the USB icon? As this is to be determined to know if this tool is needed to fix the TP.
And second question if I use this tool to fix my TP will I lose all ROM (internal storage) and virtual SD card data? If it will is there any chance of being able to back up data before doing the process or recovering the data after? All my backups of the TP reside on the virtual SD card. Something I'm beginning to think is a bad idea given my resent issues. I'm considering cloud storage for backups. I never expected to run into situations where I'd lose data on the SD or lose access to the SD but anyways I'm rambling.

I am fairly certain it does not matter whether its plugged into pc usb port or mains. You should get the usb icon regardless.

In my experience of using this tool, as user data/configuration/etc is present after the de-bricking process.

It ran just fine on my 12.10, 64 bit intel box that I use to build android. I hope it can work for your arm box. Give it a try. It shouldn't fail in any disasterous way, it should just give an error. Jcsullins wrote the code pretty well in that respect.
Otherwise, you will need an intel or amd machine that you can boot a live cd on.
Best of luck.
This is such an awesome tool for the touchpad, should be in everyone's repertoire

My touchpad was completely dead and the battery sign wouldn't even come on. Not surprising, considering I hadn't charged it in a month. Regardless, I took it apart and removed the battery. I didn't have a battery charger so I took an old USB wire and spliced it exposing the + and - wires. I plugged the USB portion into the TP charger and the exposed wires into the respective positive and negative ports of the battery. I left it like that for a couple days, put everything back together and it started up with the ? mark in a battery symbol. Ran the debrick tool and my TP's good as new! Amazing tool from an amazing developer!
Need held hp touchpad is dead not coming on and no charging .I try the tpdebrick-v004 but when I get to sudo part I got error qdl not found abort I try pow + home + vol down but nothing. I was running cm10 . I am not sure that did I remove web os or not but when I plug hp touchpad to comp window 7 64 bit it say USB not recognize.

You didn't say what kind of PC you're running and what operating system, that's pretty important in knowing whether or not it'll detect MTP. Also may need to install USB drivers, if it shows any kind of unknown device under device manager (assuming it's windows).

Hi. I am using the latest PAC nightlys too (v23.0.0.) and they are extrem buggy. After the display locks itself and you unlock it, the connection is totally lost. only way to make the device visible again (i am running win7) is to uncheck usb-debugging and recheck it afterwords again.
But if this doesnt work for you, i would blame the buggy rom

Hey guys. My phone slipped out my pocket and the digitizer is broken. My phone is rooted, the boot loader is unlocked, and I have it recognised as an ADB Recovery device. I want to enable USB Debugging so I can use androidscreencast to use my phone over my PC so I can set it up to push notifications to my computer and to my pebble(smart watch).
How can I do this. Most of the threads I have found just flat out don't work or stop because of some sort of restriction due to the phone being still locked.
It looks like you need to run some commands in a terminal emulator on your phone. Which in your case is going to be impossible. Why don't you just use adb pull to pull the data off your sdcard?

Don't need any of the stuff - I could just boot in and take it over USB. All I need is to enable USB Debugging to send touch commands in place of my touch screen. Once I have that my pebble can let me use my phone outside of the house and I can send notifications to my PC too.
Bump!

Anyone? I can't get a new phone for a while.
The biggest Problem ist the Drivers "FOR ALL"problems
You must have all Drivers for it
