I am a newb when it comes to android, so please bear with me. I cannot for the life of me get my Continuum dl17 unrooted to mount on my computer. I use a late 2010 13" MacBook pro (10.6.6) as my main rig, with VMWare Fusion installed. I have an XP clone, a Win 7 clone and a Ubuntu clone. I am unsuccessful mounting the phone in any of these.
When I first connect the phone to any of the computers/virtual machines I see what looks like a Verizon CD that tries to install the driver (No Mac Driver | I'll get to that later) The CD the disappears, I swipe down the notifications on the phone and choose Mount the SD to no avail.
I downloaded the drivers from Samsung...nothing. I have tried mounting with USB debugging and without...nothing.
When I try to mount to the Mac I get an error that the Mac cannot read the disk and do I want to initialize. (oddly enough If I unmount the sd card and put it in my card reader I can transfer files just fine using the Mac)
I really want to root the phone, but that is impossible when you cannot get the phone to be recognized my your computer.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. (BTW I have tried everything that I could find to troubleshoot this before I posted)
Thanks
The DL17 update broke the USB functionality on the Continuum. Please, complain LOUDLY to Verizon. If you can get an unupdated phone as a trade-in that might be best.

Weudel,
Thank you! I will complain LOUDLY to Verizon.
Yeah, I don't believe z4root works after the update, either, at least it didn't for me. Don't you have a friend with a pc? It doesn't take long to root...

I have tried to attach the phone to a windows box as well...no dice. How did you root your phone?

You don't need USB storage to root, just turn on debugging.

Thanks Weudel,
I will give it another shot.
I did get root... I was just not being patient enough

I have the DL17 on my SCH-I400 and I just managed to connect to it via ADB (thanks to this post).
Can you explain what you mean by "broke the USB functionality"?
I've been running Mac OS Lion for the last almost 2 months on my Alienware M11x, so I know the pain of trying to get the Continuum to mount on a Mac. It won't work unless you're running a Froyo ROM. There isn't an easier answer, believe me, I tried!
Even then, when running Froyo, USB debugging will time out after a few minutes. I'm going to flash EC07, and see if it improves that problem.

Only time this happened to me was when I plugged the phone in and mounted the drive. Then I opened up disk management in windows and I would get what you do. So my suggestion check your USB drivers. Uninstall all and install HTC sync 205. Check services for disk management and you may want to stop it if on.

It seems to me its a problem with CM or the kernel, I just boot into my recovery and mount the usb from there...
i'm using wired tether a lot at the moment and i routinely need to reboot get my USB connection back.
I'm not just talking about mounting the SD though, all i need is a connection and the "USB Connected" notification. if i do adb devices it doesn't find my phone.
computer is running ubuntu so it's obviously not O/S related
simple work around is to reboot, but it's still irritating.
has anyone logged it on the CM bug tracker?
a fix for this is on the CM5.08-t1 changelog, so get flashing.

I just got the Vibrant and I cannot get my computer to see the sd or fixed memory card. I have win 7 pro 64. I downloaded the usb driver for the galaxy 9000 and I went to the Canadian website and got Kies. I can now in Kies see the F and G drive (I assume F is sd and G the fixed Memory) but I cannot access. I go to the hardware devices menu in Win 7 and There is the phone and it sees the Vibrant and sees both flash drives but they are grayed out. So i need a suggestion on what to do. Would this get resolved if I loaded (or if I could load) Eugene's TW v3 or is there a better down load I can get from the apps store that would resolve this. please help thanks....
1. Plug phone into pc
2. On phone slide notification bar down.
3. Follow steps on drop down for mounting USB.

I am aware that it has to be mounted on the phone.
With the phone mounted no 16 gig drive shows up in places or under computer or any of file location I can find in ubuntu.
Just tried my girlfriends stock epic when she got home from work, and it works like it should. Get a pop up window. Mine does nothing.
Running:
D18
Noobnl 1.1.1 ROM
Noobnl 1.4.0 Kernel
Hers is stock. So the problem must be related to root or the rom or kernel.
Try Turning off your USB debug.

Doesnt work.
Need to try a diffrent rom / kernel I guess, Dont want to I like these.
IF your using a PC try using USB ports which are located in the back of the computer, otherwise (laptops) try a different port with the Original cable you got with the phone.
Like already mentioned try to disable the USB debugging mode. Also from the command prompt try running lsusb command and see if the device is recognized. If the only thing your doing is syncing music and photos you won't need to do changes in your rules file like when you would want ADB to work.
Let us know if this worked.
PS. Also you may want to reboot your phone after disabling USB debugging mode, just for giggles.

Using a back USB port did the trick. Seen this posted before to get the drivers for this phone to work on windows 7. Since I never had to do this I never thought to try a back port.
you can leave usb debugging on, i have no issues with it being on
I have continuum with dl17 I want to root it but I have no pc can some one help me I have read some phones can be rooted by android terminal emulators can some one figure out how to do this an d give me the commands lines and names of things to download
Thanks please give me any advice you can
umm as far as i know, in order for a terminal emulator to work you have to have root privileges. in order to root most phones now you have to have a computer at hand to connect to
Dang there has gotta be a way is z4root still being developed an updated version that worked with my phone would be awesome
unfortunately z4root works by way of USB debugging when the device is connected to a computer. someone else can probably clarify this more than i can, but that is how i understand it
There's a working one-click root if you have a Windows PC. If not there are other ways, but you'll probably have to catch someone on the IRC chat to talk you through it.
No luck some one help I do not have pc

Even if there was a way, if something went wrong, you don't have a way to fix it, and I don't think anyone wants that guilt xP sorry man, until you get a computer, root isn't going to happen for you xP

the instructions are pretty straight forward. read the OP from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=910699 and you should be good to go. be sure to have USB debugging enabled
thank you I am now rooted had some trouble installing drivers but I figured it out thanks

remove all the drivers and try with usb debugging,
had a similar issue with Windows 8 where the drivers never installed correctly first time and around so would install,
on my transformer when i had the same issue i removed all the drivers and on reinstall the drivers installed fine
I have done so and i do have usb debugging and still same issue. Dont know what else to do. By the way i am running Vista

Do you have multiple android devices installed? I have had the same issue when I tried to install drivers for my p6800. Deinstalled htc software AND drivers, then tried again, worked perfectly.
No, no other drivers. I recently reformated my laptop and still a no go. Whatever items do install it allows me to access both external and internal drives, but those 2 items dont and just get "drivers not installed"

Does anyone know where i can get the drivers for the GT-6800. For me just connecting the tab to my laptop does not work. A valid link would be helpfull. Thanks.
