Please make Suggestion to Solve - Vibrant General

I just got the Vibrant and I cannot get my computer to see the sd or fixed memory card. I have win 7 pro 64. I downloaded the usb driver for the galaxy 9000 and I went to the Canadian website and got Kies. I can now in Kies see the F and G drive (I assume F is sd and G the fixed Memory) but I cannot access. I go to the hardware devices menu in Win 7 and There is the phone and it sees the Vibrant and sees both flash drives but they are grayed out. So i need a suggestion on what to do. Would this get resolved if I loaded (or if I could load) Eugene's TW v3 or is there a better down load I can get from the apps store that would resolve this. please help thanks....

1. Plug phone into pc
2. On phone slide notification bar down.
3. Follow steps on drop down for mounting USB.

Only time this happened to me was when I plugged the phone in and mounted the drive. Then I opened up disk management in windows and I would get what you do. So my suggestion check your USB drivers. Uninstall all and install HTC sync 205. Check services for disk management and you may want to stop it if on.

It seems to me its a problem with CM or the kernel, I just boot into my recovery and mount the usb from there...
i'm using wired tether a lot at the moment and i routinely need to reboot get my USB connection back.
I'm not just talking about mounting the SD though, all i need is a connection and the "USB Connected" notification. if i do adb devices it doesn't find my phone.
computer is running ubuntu so it's obviously not O/S related
simple work around is to reboot, but it's still irritating.
has anyone logged it on the CM bug tracker?
a fix for this is on the CM5.08-t1 changelog, so get flashing.

[Q] Trouble connecting VIA USB

I am a newb when it comes to android, so please bear with me. I cannot for the life of me get my Continuum dl17 unrooted to mount on my computer. I use a late 2010 13" MacBook pro (10.6.6) as my main rig, with VMWare Fusion installed. I have an XP clone, a Win 7 clone and a Ubuntu clone. I am unsuccessful mounting the phone in any of these.
When I first connect the phone to any of the computers/virtual machines I see what looks like a Verizon CD that tries to install the driver (No Mac Driver | I'll get to that later) The CD the disappears, I swipe down the notifications on the phone and choose Mount the SD to no avail.
I downloaded the drivers from Samsung...nothing. I have tried mounting with USB debugging and without...nothing.
When I try to mount to the Mac I get an error that the Mac cannot read the disk and do I want to initialize. (oddly enough If I unmount the sd card and put it in my card reader I can transfer files just fine using the Mac)
I really want to root the phone, but that is impossible when you cannot get the phone to be recognized my your computer.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. (BTW I have tried everything that I could find to troubleshoot this before I posted)
Thanks
The DL17 update broke the USB functionality on the Continuum. Please, complain LOUDLY to Verizon. If you can get an unupdated phone as a trade-in that might be best.

Weudel,
Thank you! I will complain LOUDLY to Verizon.
Yeah, I don't believe z4root works after the update, either, at least it didn't for me. Don't you have a friend with a pc? It doesn't take long to root...

You don't need USB storage to root, just turn on debugging.

I have the DL17 on my SCH-I400 and I just managed to connect to it via ADB (thanks to this post).
Can you explain what you mean by "broke the USB functionality"?
I've been running Mac OS Lion for the last almost 2 months on my Alienware M11x, so I know the pain of trying to get the Continuum to mount on a Mac. It won't work unless you're running a Froyo ROM. There isn't an easier answer, believe me, I tried!
Even then, when running Froyo, USB debugging will time out after a few minutes. I'm going to flash EC07, and see if it improves that problem.

Vibrant not showing up on computer after mounting it.

I am running the latest bionix v1.3 I have had this problem for a while now, I have had to manually dl zips on my phone instead of transferring them from my p.c. to my phone.
It is really annoying because now I want to transfer music to it and I cannot really do if it my computer is not letting me access it after mounting it.
I do not really know where to begin to troubleshoot this besides going to stock:/
Have you ever downloaded Kies?? If not you should try that as it automatically installs the drivers for all of the various galaxy s devices

You have to flash with Odin. Put .tar in PDA. Pull battery, put back in. Make sure it doesn't boot. Hold volume -. Plug in USB. Phone should have big yellow triangle on it. Says download mode. And there should be a yellow com23 or 27 or something on Odin. Make sure re-partition is not checked. Hit start. When it says done. Screen goes blank. Hold volume +/- and per. That's stock recovery. Press volume - and menu soft key to run update. Zip which should be on root of SD card.

Thank you for this summary. However, my problem is that I cannot even begin this procedure without placing the update.zip file in the phone's SD card.
There clearly is a problem with Windows identifying the phone's SD card as "Mass storage" (yes, I made sure the phone's USB settings have "Mass storage" selected").
I am using Samsung's latest & greatest driver provided specifically for this phone (Verizon_Wireless_I400_Continuum_USB_Driver_V1.3.550.0), which I downloaded from here: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/SCH-I400ZKAVZW
Could that be the driver?
Is there a better driver?

On the phone itself? No.
On Windows XP, I get notifications that the device has been recognized and connected. In my original posting, you can see the snapshots of the result in "My Computer".

OK, I just did that, and I am prompted (on the phone's screen, not a task bar):
Code:
Select USB mode
[ Media player ]
[ Mass storage ]
I of course select Mass storage. But now there is no E: drive in Windows. Not even with 0 free space. This is weird.
Alternatively you could put the files on your phone with dropbox, but don't know if that would help you in the long run

That doesn't help either. But now I discovered that that USB device is reported by XP as "SAMSUN UMS CD-ROM USB Device":
And when I click the "Driver" tab on the same dialog box, the driver is reported as:
Where is the Samsung driver that I installed and worked so nicely when I rooted the device?
(in fact, I can still see the phone listed in the attached devices list when I type adb devices in the command shell)
I am going to remove that driver:
And install a different one that I found on the web and see what happens.
Update: I did just that, replacing the Verizon_Wireless_I400_Continuum_USB_Driver_V1.3.550.0 driver with a SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones ver. 1.4.2.2 that I found somewhere. Windows now reports a saner identification:
But the problem still persists.
(and the command adb devices continues to work as well).
OK - I am giving up. I ran out of possible causes and trials, and the only thing I can think of now is that: It shouldn't work at all that way.
Yet, I could swear that I saw DFGGED in that video, dragging and dropping update.zip into E:
How did he do that???
I always see that message untill I mount sd card ftom pull dowm menu and or you could download directly from xda app....

On Windows XP I can only see "Format" and "Eject" in the context menu of the "Removable Disk (E"
On the phone I have no idea what pull down menu you are referring to.

@ciscogee See the other thread for how grateful I am to you. Thanks to your excellent tutorial (much much better than that YouTube video), I am now running Android 2.2.2.
As for the subject matter of this thread, I simply gave up and worked around it by using adb push <filename> /sdcard/<filename> from the command line.
When you connect to pc on the phone theres should be a usb notification in the pull down menu. You have to push button in notification to begin copying files to pc. This mounts the sd card to the pc. Or you could use adapter/reader and connect to pc directly? Just a thought....

Got it - Thanks! Whew it took me some time to grasp the terminology but I managed to follow exactly what you describe and now it works. I just didn't realize that one extra (manual!) step is required to enable USB storage visibility to PC.

Well, unspecified is really not helpful when trying to find the problem...
Have you tried another USB port? What driver do your use to connect to your phone? At which file does the transfer break off? Have you tried skipping that if it's not important?
Also consider using some backup tool instead of manually copy/pasting the phones content.

Try to install drivers manually. My phone always copies files with USB debugging. Just tap Build Number about 10 times in About phone in Settings and go to Developer Options and enable USB debugging. When you plug in your phone to the computer and try transferring a file, it should work.
This is why I don't like the Nexus 4, it doesn't have an sdcard slot.
