Didn't see this over here, posting for people who don't check Rootz. I'll just post his description here. Downloads and instructions in the OG thread. Now for the good stuff:
From the README: TPDebrick v0.1 by jcsullins
===========================
TPDebrick is a set of files and scripts used to "de-brick" HP Touchpads. This process should allow the revival of Touchpads that cannot boot (only gives QDLoader mode) due to corrupted partitioning or bootloaders. Note that this should allow you to get into bootie (webOS) recovery mode. Additional steps may be needed after that to restore the bootie configuration or Operating System (i.e. webOS doctor).

thanks, will save it somewhere to try when i got a bug (hope not )
tpdebrick v004 is out, saved a co-workers touchpad today :good:
I may be in need of using this on my touchpad. I can't seem to revive it from the battery with question mark. After having mistakenly let the battery get so low it auto powered off while running CM9. My questions before proceeding with this are:
Am I doing the power + vol up + home correctly? Am I supposed to do it while plugged into a PC or wall outlet or while not plugged in to get the USB icon? As this is to be determined to know if this tool is needed to fix the TP.
And second question if I use this tool to fix my TP will I lose all ROM (internal storage) and virtual SD card data? If it will is there any chance of being able to back up data before doing the process or recovering the data after? All my backups of the TP reside on the virtual SD card. Something I'm beginning to think is a bad idea given my resent issues. I'm considering cloud storage for backups. I never expected to run into situations where I'd lose data on the SD or lose access to the SD but anyways I'm rambling.

I am fairly certain it does not matter whether its plugged into pc usb port or mains. You should get the usb icon regardless.

In my experience of using this tool, as user data/configuration/etc is present after the de-bricking process.
Peace.

It ran just fine on my 12.10, 64 bit intel box that I use to build android. I hope it can work for your arm box. Give it a try. It shouldn't fail in any disasterous way, it should just give an error. Jcsullins wrote the code pretty well in that respect.
Otherwise, you will need an intel or amd machine that you can boot a live cd on.
Best of luck.
This is such an awesome tool for the touchpad, should be in everyone's repertoire

My touchpad was completely dead and the battery sign wouldn't even come on. Not surprising, considering I hadn't charged it in a month. Regardless, I took it apart and removed the battery. I didn't have a battery charger so I took an old USB wire and spliced it exposing the + and - wires. I plugged the USB portion into the TP charger and the exposed wires into the respective positive and negative ports of the battery. I left it like that for a couple days, put everything back together and it started up with the ? mark in a battery symbol. Ran the debrick tool and my TP's good as new! Amazing tool from an amazing developer!
Need held hp touchpad is dead not coming on and no charging .I try the tpdebrick-v004 but when I get to sudo part I got error qdl not found abort I try pow + home + vol down but nothing. I was running cm10 . I am not sure that did I remove web os or not but when I plug hp touchpad to comp window 7 64 bit it say USB not recognize.

Possibly a stupid question, but does the tp have to be on in order for you to debrick it? I have one I cant power on I thouight I'd try if this is possible..

Have you managed to use ODIN3 in VirtualBox? I haven't been able to get the usb to recognize the phone. Any tips?
Thanks
I've tried in the past to get VMWare to work with odin. It doesn't recognize the Phone in Download mode. How did the OP make it work?
I couldn't get it to work with any of the virtual products/environment. Finally set up Boot Camp partition and it worked right out of the box.
I use virtual box in linux mint, oddly it mounts the phone in downloads mode, but not while the phone is on, I think I got it to sync to kies in virtual box once but can't remember what the trick to it was.
edit: debugging mode prevents virtual box from mounting it, so kies works fine, i haven't tried mass storage mode.
I had a thread with the how to bit it died quickly.
There is a list of devices that will mount to the virtual machine, you can't add the device with the virtual machine running. So you need to put the phone in download mode(it looks different to the computer in download mode so out must be added to the list in that mode), plug it in, open virtual box, open settings, devices, usb, and add the phone to the list. I believe it calls it gadget serial something or other.
Then pull the battery and unplug data cable, start the virtual machine, start odin, put phone in download mode and plug it in, as soon as you do that at the top of the window to the virtual machine you may need top select devices usb and tick the phone.
You may need to pull the battery one more time and enter download mode again, this time the virtual machine will mount the phone automatically, and will remember it till you untick it.

I tried all VM's my computer is just too slow (2Ghz 2GB Ram MacBook), my fav is just using bootcamp to boot into win 7 32bit.
I am a newb when it comes to android, so please bear with me. I cannot for the life of me get my Continuum dl17 unrooted to mount on my computer. I use a late 2010 13" MacBook pro (10.6.6) as my main rig, with VMWare Fusion installed. I have an XP clone, a Win 7 clone and a Ubuntu clone. I am unsuccessful mounting the phone in any of these.
When I first connect the phone to any of the computers/virtual machines I see what looks like a Verizon CD that tries to install the driver (No Mac Driver | I'll get to that later) The CD the disappears, I swipe down the notifications on the phone and choose Mount the SD to no avail.
I downloaded the drivers from Samsung...nothing. I have tried mounting with USB debugging and without...nothing.
When I try to mount to the Mac I get an error that the Mac cannot read the disk and do I want to initialize. (oddly enough If I unmount the sd card and put it in my card reader I can transfer files just fine using the Mac)
I really want to root the phone, but that is impossible when you cannot get the phone to be recognized my your computer.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. (BTW I have tried everything that I could find to troubleshoot this before I posted)
Thanks
The DL17 update broke the USB functionality on the Continuum. Please, complain LOUDLY to Verizon. If you can get an unupdated phone as a trade-in that might be best.

I have the DL17 on my SCH-I400 and I just managed to connect to it via ADB (thanks to this post).
Can you explain what you mean by "broke the USB functionality"?
I've been running Mac OS Lion for the last almost 2 months on my Alienware M11x, so I know the pain of trying to get the Continuum to mount on a Mac. It won't work unless you're running a Froyo ROM. There isn't an easier answer, believe me, I tried!
Even then, when running Froyo, USB debugging will time out after a few minutes. I'm going to flash EC07, and see if it improves that problem.
Having trouble connecting this tablet to anything. I have tried 3 separate computers (Windows 7 on two of them, XP on the other), 3 different cords, USB debugging is checked in settings, and drivers are installed. None of the computers detect it at all, I connect the cord and nothing happens. No sound, and nothing pops up in the device manager of the PC's. It's almost as if the Micro USB port in this tablet is dead.
I want to make sure I have tried everything before I crack it open and take a look inside. I'm not a n00b to androids or tablets. All my devices are rooted and I just installed a ROM in my A200, etc. But this a problem I've never encountered. Any ideas to something else I can try?
Drivers...Acers and those from the sdk.
Try putting tab in apx mode and then connecting...
failing that uninstall ALL drivers then reinstall only the a500 drivers...
Also try opening cmd on the folder which contains adb.exe

Tried all of my USB ports on my PC after I reinstalled the drivers.
I really think the micro usb port in this thing is dead but the regular usb port works fine.
I'm lost on what to try next

I'm having some trouble understanding how to get my CPUID. I tried to reply to some of the relevant threads but was not allowed due to some kind of missing "Approval". I'm hoping this gets through. My Acer A500 froze about a week ago while running the clock program. It was used mostly as a night stand toy. I've tried lots of stuff here including trying to install the Acer default roms.
SD_PB_G100W_1.007.03_COM_GEN1.zip and Acer_AV041_A500_1.031.00_WW_GEN1-FULL-ROOT.zip and Acer_AV041_A500_1.054.00_WW_GEN1-FULL-ROOT.zip. I copied these to my SD card one at a time then renamed them update.zip. None worked. I tried several others without success.
I cannot get passed the CPUID thing. I tried the A500 manager and I got nowhere. My windows 7 PC does see this tablet in APX mode "Hold power and reset buttons "and so did the A500 manager. Now the strange part, the A500 manager did not reveal any text on the program for any of the buttons. I used a screenshot found on the forum to blindly use it. Of course, it did not give me the info I need "CPUID" to do much of anything else. The A500 boots to the Acer logo and that all it does. I tried hardware and software reset, Power + -volume and power + + volume move the orientation lock button. The first ends up showing Android guy dead with red exclamation and the second shows erasing and clearing message, reboots back to Acer logo screen and that's it.
If I could get the CPUID from this thing, I would try the other tools from the forum. I have nothing to lose at this point. I read the CPUID forum threads over the last few days and I'm beginning to lose hope. Can someone tell a noob step by step how to get my CPUID? I have never hooked this tab up to a PC before and I do not have access to an XP machine. If this is a clue, if I just power the tab up to the Acer logo screen, the driver fails but in APX mode, the machine sees the tab.
Please let me know if you need any other info. I'm a PC guy and know nothing about any form of linux/ubuntu.
You have a couple of options...
If you've got a nandroid backup you'll find it in a txt file.
If you've previously had it plugged into yr pc use usbfeview.
Use Linux to retrieve it.
Also if yr pc does not recognise yr tab you won't get very far at all. Ensure u have them installed correctly, both the Acer ones and the usb ones

You don't have to have a linux machine per say. There are 3 ways to install Ubuntu (most popular linux OS) on a normal windows pc.
1) Install Cygwin. This creates a virtual window to run an ubuntu installation
2) VMWare. Again, creates a virtual window to run Ubuntu
3. Install Ubuntu on top of Windows to have a dual boot system (easiest and more efficient method).
The big difference between 1 & 2, and option 3, is that the first 2 options share resources with both Ubuntu and Windows. This can be a little buggy if you don't have a pretty powerful system (i5 and i7 with lots of RAM).
Where as option 3 gives 100% of the system resources as you boot straight to Ubuntu.
The advantage to options 1 & 2, is that it's easy to uninstall when you no longer need Ubuntu.
Just Google "install ubuntu on windows" and several links to do it. It's actually pretty easy.
Another thing to try first is to download these full ICS Update files for the A500 (501 owners can try this also, but you'll have a 500, but that might can be changed later)
These files are already "decrypted" and are named differently as to keep them separate. Download them all to a folder.
Now, select one of them, rename it to "update" (end result is a file called update.zip) copy it to SD card, boot tab and see if it installs. If it hangs on the install, delete it from SD card, and do the same with the next. Hopefully one of them might take. You may have to try all 4 of them before one works. It's hit and miss.

I tried a few times to install Ubuntu on my Dell 8400. It's a good PC but I do not understand how to "Compile" or install the drivers needed. Can I do this with "Live CD" or a USB boot of Ubuntu without trying to install drivers? The drivers I need for Ubuntu on my Dell are video and on board sound card drivers. Everything else works from the start. I'm very lost when it comes to any flavor of Linux. I've been asking people on several boards for a few years now if they have a working image for the Dell 8400 they could ship to me but haven't got one yet. I would love to get this tablet up and running again. I saw a few listings for Acer A500 repair on Ebay. I wonder if this might be the best route to take? They are charging $50.00 for software repairs and $130.00 for hardware replacement (Motherboard). The hardware replacement is a little steep as I see some used A500s listed starting at $150.00. I would hate to end up buying someone else headache.

If you install, its with a recent "Live CD" (or USB Stick, which I have never used) I prefer the CD version.
I don't have a dell, or know much about them. But if Ubuntu starts up, regardless of sound or perhaps video drivers, there should be no issues in making things work.
As for getting replacement parts, I would think you can almost a better deal with a new device rather than paying for replacement parts.
A working A500/501 goes for about 100-150$ these days,
If the updates I linked you to, didn't work, then it's probably a bad memory block. But you'll have to use Ubuntu, for a couple of reasons, an really no way to avoid it.
1) babsector (although it can be run through windows)

I have managed to boot ubuntu successfully from usb. I have not installed just ran a live session. There was no sound, no touch and no internal wireless though a wireless usb stick worked fine.

Sorry about the crappy video! It is slow to boot, probably because of the useless usb stick. I used. Also a powered hub was a must.
I also tried booting a windows 10 winpe img. It started loading but failed with bluescreen. This also happened with a windows to go usb stick that boots fine on my other machines. Problem seems to be with bios, have tried many things but nothing seemed to help. The error was...
ACPI_BIOS_ERROR
All versions of linux that I have successfully booted have no sound, touchscreen, screen rotation.
Also the ubuntU version I used was one tweaked for cherrytrail devices by linuxium, the standard one seemed to have kernel panic. The iso can be found here......

https://ubuntu-mate.community/t/intel-22b8-sound-chip-no-soundcard-found-on-hp-x2-210-g2/10673
Although a pair of usb headphones worked fine in both distros so I am guessing that would include usb soundcards.
To get wifi working in linuxiums distro...
Install...
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sourc...d/9020816/+files/linux-firmware_1.156_all.deb
Download, right click and install. Then..
sudo apt-get purge bcmwl-kernel-source
sudo modprobe -r brcmfmac
sudo modprobe brcmfmac
Mint 18 boots with the nomodeset flag....Wifi works out of the box. Still no touch or sound.
Android x86cm boots with nomodeset flag....same as above, wifi works, no sound, touch or rotation.
Touchscreen....
From what I can gather from Android the touch screen identifies as Hideep and is working as /dev/input/event3. I could not get any response from any /dev/input/event* in linux. Not being a linux wiz I can only guess this means there is no kernel module for the touchscreen. Though I did find this on github, its android stuff don't know if its any help really....

WARNING!!! I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE YOU DO TO YOUR TABLET!!!
Here is some instructions to get this going.
I am going to suggest you only try this if you are not a complete novice.
Let me stress again that you try this at your own risk. Be careful in the bios as you don't want to do anything to create a nice paperweight.
Manual boot to bios,
Try this at your own risk!!!!
This is magic code from Microsoft apparently. Feel free to google it.
These commands need entering one by one from adb shell. They need to be exactly right!!!!!!!!!!!
mount -t efivarfs efivarfs /sys/firmware/efi/efivars
printf "\x07\x00\x00\x00\x01\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\ x00" > /sys/firmware/efi/efivars/OsIndications-8be4df61-93ca-11d2-aa0d-00e098032b8c
reboot
Tablet should boot to bios but you might need to manuall turn it back on, you can navigate the bios with the buttons. POWER=enter, vol+/- =navigate menus and long press vol+=Esc.
If you have TWRP recovery installed; after using the commands from adb once the reboot to bios option in the TWRP reboot menu should work, so next time you want to boot from bios just reboot from twrp.
To get keyboard and usb boot support, in bios
Device manager......
System setup........
android.......
Uefi secure BOOT=disable.
South cluster configuration.......
Usb configuration.....
default drd CONFIG=hostmode
Usb VBUS=on.
that's it save changes and exit. Next time you boot to bios you can use keyboard connected via otg to use bios. You can also select next boot device in bios boot manager.
If you want to be able to interupt boot process to select boot device also disable fast boot under boot category in bios . This will mean you get a black screen with progress bar on power on but allows use f7 to select boot device.
After booting another os from usb it often takes 3 boots to get back to android, don't panic.
Oh and lastly a powered usb hub is needed needed if you want to use mouse and keyboard in linux etc.

I used a version that was already modified by linuxium, he has added alot of stuff to get it working on intel compute sticks.
I also had to add a "nomodeset" flag to get it to boot.

So would it work on the 2gb tab 3?

I don't see why not. I should warn you that changes have to be made in the bios to allow usb booting. I never managed this on my 2GB version but the bios does look the same.

I have used many. Most just need the nomodeset flag adding to get them to boot.
