[Q] Softkeybar height - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know the nexus10 has a 2560x1600 Resolution but that includes the Softkeybar (Home, Back, Options) which we cant hide. We need the "real" usabable resolution so we dont get on trouble with image cropping etc.
Does anybody know exactly how high the Softkeybar on the Nexus10 is or what the "real" usable Resolution for the Nexus10 is? I googled already but cant find any usefull information.
Would be great to hear something from you guys.
Best regards
Philipp

If you want full screen access (hidden notification and softkeys) then use these two apps, "full!screen" and "LMT/PIE". With that combination you can use all 2560x1600 plus have a notification pop-up menu (full!screen) and a customized auto-hide navigation menu (LMT's Pie feature).
Find full!screen on the plays store and LMT on the XDA forums. You need to be rooted.

Aboinger, I am also interested in exploring Ultimate Launcher. Your Athena Ultimate Launcher Interface looks so nice. How did you do that? Can you explain step by step. Cos I also installed Ultimate Launcher, but Ultimate Launcher can only slide from right to left or vice versa, functions like the "easy shortcut". But Ultimate Launcher cannot move up and down.
Landscape is supported and works perfectly fine...
my ultimate launcher is also limited from side to side / fade animations
when you are in the tabs option and hit create new it should give you an option to add in plugins / shortcuts
what exactly did u need help with id be more than happy to help
Where download the ultimate launcher?
its an exe so its in a zip
dont know where the cab for the english version is ...
updated video to include ftouchsl / new UL interface

Better!...
I know this is a thread to demo the UL (which I just got put on two days ago....awesome software). But boinger, I notice that you have flames on your S2U2. One: where did you get that animated background for it? Second: your S2U2 looks as if it was designed for VGA....mine looks like a stretched QVGA screen. How can i get mine crisp like yours?
Thanks buddy. Nice layout..
BTW....I'm not sure what the version that was linked earlier in this thread....but I found the english version here!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365334&highlight=Ultimate+Launcher&page=2
yes this one is the english version
and about S2U2 i changed the graphics for vga.. you can do that simply by editing the .png's
i just changed the clock files to be honest.
and in real vga mode the slider doesnt work. so i enabled dpad support cause the screen mapping is off.
i can send you the flames gif... i got it off another member and edited it for vga.
You said editing the png's. Does that mean you changed the icons themselves, or you adjusted the values of the png to fit VGA? Just a little confused on that. Or all together, did you edit the pngs in a software such as Adobe Photoshop? If that is the case I might have to ask are you willing to share....thats a little over my head.
Yes Please email me the flame background...[email protected]
I might go back to S2U2 because of this.
Thanks boinger....appreciated buddy!
the blue flames jpg is attached
and i wouldnt mind sending you the vga clock files but that should be in the clock pack already
boinger,
What sort of icon format does ultimatelaunch accept. Is it only ico? What about png format?
only ico
you can use 32bit xp icons though.. so they look just as nice... only dillema is you have to convert most icons from .png
i can upload my ico icon pack for you all if you like ?
how can i use icon(bottom) like you?
i like your style..
looks nice..
i tried but.. i cannot use it.
i do not know how i set the icon.
i like icon linked like iphone..
please, let me know how you set yr advantage.....
That would be awesome if you uploaded some of your icons boinger. I'm also trying to find some to share here as well.
I'm struggling a little with the "not activated" signs in the corner. I have registered this app, and entered the code twice. Soft-reset. After a couple of minutes and some navigation, they reappear.
I searched for some answers, and it seems there isnt a fixed from what I was able to find.
Anybody else having this annoyance!!
Thanks
here ya go
Thanks boinger. These are nice buddy!!!!
I think I have the wrong version of S2U2. I just took the WM5 version that I used for my x51v. I say this because, I cant use gif. as a wallpaper for it. I'm assuming that I might not have the most current version.
Lastly, I have been trying to incorporate your icons, but for some reason UL will not show them when I select them. I can only use the default icons that come with them.
Any ideas!!!
I don't seem to be able to enter text for the application icon, although I can see that the config icon has a description.
What is the trick to enter this text?
I'm also unable to choose tab icon. Does tab icon got to meet certain criteria for them to work?

Yes... it is a good one. Thanks for sharing.
Tried it, works good
I wonder if HTML panels support Flash? If yes, then one could probably create more awesome looking stuff...
does the panel itself scroll to the left or right just like the iphone when you try to swipe the panel to the side? thanks.

It does not. Also, there is no way to change the settings (for example the background image).
One thing that bothers me is that I have to quickly double-click to open a shortcut, not just a single-click.

i believe u can...by changing the image in the panels under device programs...
pls correct me if i'm wrong,,
You can indeed change it, but you need to know some basic HTML.
I was trying to update this panel myself so that the clock actually told the time not a static image and also the calendar shows the correct day/date.
The calendar shouldn't be too hard, but so far I cannot find a Javascript clock that works with the HTML panel. Sadly the HTML panel does not even seem to support as many features as Pocket IE which itself is dated.
Although the single most annoying thing for me is that the HTML panels only gives you 240x350 resolution to work with as for some odd reason it won't do 1:1 pixel ratio, all images are doubled in size. This stops it looking quite as polished as you can see the pixels whereas the X1 screen is such a good pixel density you normally can't make out the individual pixels. So much so I hadn't even realised ClearType was turned OFF on mine, as the pixels were so small the improvement from turning it on was minimal compared to on PC or a lower resolution XDA. It also makes positioning stuff on the page a PITA, that and most of the CSS positioning is not supported.
Can't running
I can't run this panel with the X2 launcher panel... Someone have a solution ?
And, I search this panel since 4 days (but this panel only ! not the cab with all the x1 panel) :

(please copy and paste this link, I am a new user and I can't put link in my messages)
thanks for all.

Applied wallpaper is blurry... Why?

(First, I'm trying to avoid HDwalls)
It has always bugged me that when you apply a wallpaper under Settings, that the wallpaper isn't as clear as if you were to view them in the "Picture" tab. In fact, the applied wallpaper is some what blurred at a lower quality.
Has anyone noticed this? Or is it just me because I can point out something you were not able to see.
try it yourself with some sharp jagged text as wallpaper. Then apply it to the lock screen as well.
You'll notice that the wallpaper on home screen is not as crisp and clear as the one on the lock screen.
Anyone know why?
you are right, I did notice this.
has it got something to do with the phone trying to squish the image into the right ratio instead of just cropping the image too fit?
not sure maybe some other members can offer their help?
See, you didn't even notice youself. And i think most people dont realize this as well.
Anyone got a fix?
rebump. rebump
Sense resizes the image to something smaller than 480x800 and then stretches it again (for some silly reason). It's a long-known problem - since the phone was first released. It's also one of the reasons that HDWall came about. The only alternative to HDWall I know is to install Co0kie's Home Tab. You can set wallpaper with that and it retains the original quality (as well as having a LOT of extra wallpaper options).
Try resizing or cropping the image to 480x800 then setting it as a background, that way the phone won't need to resize it for you.....

It still does it. The default way of setting wallpaper in Sense is just crap.

cookies wall doesnt work. never did.
home tab>menu>home wallpaper> etc...
that path doesnt work.
unless there is some other way...
resizing images dont work either.
I just also want to mention that Cookies Home tab 1.8 does improve the quality of the wallpaper over normal Sense BUT they are still reduced in quality and resolution somewhat so are still not full quality.
So for me - HDwalls is what i use - though i sometimes have trouble getting it to work properly.
Use SPB Mobile Shell. You will get mega sharp wallpapers (custom of course) and far better functionality than standard sense.

Droid X Widget

Hi,
I saw a video from Droid X were was shown the ability to resize widget’s,
i think that’s very cool.
Do you think It’s possible to port the widgets and the ability to resize for magic? or even the whole rom to magic since it seems very simple and very vanilla like?
Thanks....
If you use ADW launcher, you can do that
Resize
how do i resize the widgets with ADW.launcher? what widgets is possible to resize?
Thanks
This has nothing to do with developing roms.
I'm moving to General.
Resize
Sorry my mistake...

When you add a widget (it could be any widget) a popup will appear with the default dimensions and give you an option to change them. I guess it is "cool" but it purely practical terms it's kinda pointless.
-First if you stretch or shrink a widget without keeping it's aspect ratio it will look awful
-If you stretch a widget all the graphics will look horrid because they aren't are still at a lower resolution just stretch
-If you shrink a widget any text becomes unreadable, this isn't a problem on high resolution WVGA devices but it is on the Magic.
It's possible, but there's a reason it isn't officially supported.

Thats way i’ve liked what i saw in the video (sorry but i cant find it now) the example was the calendar, the widget change the organization it self. Its like HTC Calendar Widget, that have the grid, the bar and a event list, but there you can change just by resize, it’s not a simple stretch... if i find the video i’ll post it

Well then you're not resizing, just choosing a different widget in itself.

Just a thought... take a screenshot. If it's less than 1600px high... minus the amount from 1600.
all screenshots i can find are 2560x1600. So that doesnt really help
I think it's 42dip.
for xxhdpi the ratio is about 1:3... So that would be about 126px (42px x 3).
EDIT:
Yep, this should help:

hm that confuses me. I measured it in photoshop on a 2560x1600 Screen shot and it was 96px. But i wanted to make sure so i hoped for some official info about that.
The DP stuff will be important when choosing sizes for UI Elementes but isnt relevant for the whole "whats resolution to work for" problem.
Isnt there any official Info about how many pixel of the screen height (in landscape mode) i loose to the Softkeybar?

This guide has some of the basic info for density calculations.
http://developer.android.com/guide/practices/screens_support.html
The value will be different depending on the device's current screen density, but below are the default calculations for the Nexus 10:
The navigation bar height is defined in framework-res as 48dp.
The device's screen density is defined in build.prop as 320.
The density ratio (screen density / android default density of 160) is 2.
48 * 2 = 96px so your measurement in photoshop is right.
You can also visually check using Settings > Developer options > Input subsection > Pointer location
Click to collapse
I just come back to say yeah it was 48dp. I had changed mine using AOKP to 42dp.
The above post is good info.
I don`t use navigation bar or the notififcation bar.
On aokp roms i hide them with gmd gesture control. Very easy to navigate with gestures and have the whole screen real-estate to apps.
