Hi,
I saw a video from Droid X were was shown the ability to resize widget’s,
i think that’s very cool.
Do you think It’s possible to port the widgets and the ability to resize for magic? or even the whole rom to magic since it seems very simple and very vanilla like?
Thanks....
If you use ADW launcher, you can do that
Resize
how do i resize the widgets with ADW.launcher? what widgets is possible to resize?
Thanks
This has nothing to do with developing roms.
I'm moving to General.
Resize
Sorry my mistake...

When you add a widget (it could be any widget) a popup will appear with the default dimensions and give you an option to change them. I guess it is "cool" but it purely practical terms it's kinda pointless.
-First if you stretch or shrink a widget without keeping it's aspect ratio it will look awful
-If you stretch a widget all the graphics will look horrid because they aren't are still at a lower resolution just stretch
-If you shrink a widget any text becomes unreadable, this isn't a problem on high resolution WVGA devices but it is on the Magic.
It's possible, but there's a reason it isn't officially supported.

Thats way i’ve liked what i saw in the video (sorry but i cant find it now) the example was the calendar, the widget change the organization it self. Its like HTC Calendar Widget, that have the grid, the bar and a event list, but there you can change just by resize, it’s not a simple stretch... if i find the video i’ll post it

Well then you're not resizing, just choosing a different widget in itself.

Could anyone pls try the following?
Set as background for both lockscreen and homescreen the same picture with a gradient: you can use the circular gradient that the phone has already stored.
in the lockscreen the gradient is very visible while in the homescreen it's very smooth.
weird...
Can you take any screenshots?
The background in the lock screen is actually of higher resolution than the sense one. This is because sense does something awkward to images. It crops a smaller part and then stretches it to fit the whole home screen.
The lockscreen seems to recompress the images indeed. A perfect image once set as lockscreen appears like an awfully blocky JPG. I guess it doesn't use the image as is but makes a badly compressed copy.
I use S2U2 now, that sort of solves the problem

From my experience, it's the other way round.
The image you see on the lockscreen is the Windows Today background, and that's just a centered view of the image you select. It doesn't do any cropping or resizing whatsoever.
For the OP - try HDWall. It allows you to have high quality images for wallpaper, as well as having the wallpaper work on all tabs. It's in the themes and apps forum. If you do use it, you'll need to install the HQ patch in the first post the first time you use it, or the backgrounds don't look right. Using HDWall, I struggle to see the difference between the manila background and the start menu/lock screen.
Hope this helps
here are the screeshots
The images I tried were exactly 480x800 as I made them on purpose. When viewing them on the device (with HTC Album or Resco photo manager), they look perfectly good, but on the lockscreen they're awful.
Sense indeed applies some kind of "grainy" post-processing, but I don't mind it, in Sense the background is not very apparent, I actually just use a default WP.
But anyway, some screenshots:
Sense rendering:
Lockscreen:
S2U2:
See how the lockscreen one appears hugely blocky? OK the original pic I used wasn't perfect for a start, but you can clearly see the difference between S2U2 that just displays the image as is and the recompression the lockscreen does.
As far as I can see, the HDWall works only with wallpaperss in a cab file.
Is there an other way to have HQ Wallpapers in a "normal way"?
Im using the Theme Maker from Max as well but there seems no HQ option to be included.

Any update??
This may be insanely easy to figure it, I presume it is all on my naivete regarding Android 2.2.
My hd2, as most here, is 4.3" at 480x800. I have found a few wallpapers I liked on google images and have resized them appropriately. Yet, when go to set said photo as wallpaper, it only lets me select a small portion of it and that portion is then grainy/blurred at the new resolution.
I did try finding exactly 480x800 wallpapers just to see if that was a problem, yet it only lets me select that small portion of the total image.
My question is, how do I get a 480x800 image and a superb quality, to be set as wallpaper in its entirety over my home screens without only getting just a portion or that portion being stretched to said blurriness?

make the wallpaper 960x800 should make it fit correctly
thank you for the reply.
You can resize the selection box...
There is a free market app called zedge that lets you download free wallpaper and ringtones. There is a lot of cool stuff in there. Try it out.
I use Zedge, select the Evo as my phone and go crazy.
When you select your wallpaper, press on the outside of the box and drag it out in order to use the entire image.
I have been creating a few VW style wallpapers for a while in 480 x 800 as jpeg's.
When I assign it as the today/lock screen it is not centralised. As when I press start the image moves up. If you understand? I'll try and get some screenshots.
I have an Image of a BBS alloy before and I'm sure that this didn't do the same. I was pretty sure the resolution was 480 x 800. Is this correct?
Hoping somebody that creates themes/wallpapers could help me out.
I'm using photoshop CS3.
Thanks,
Al.

I think the image you see when you go into the start menu, is the 'lock screen' wallpaper, so i think it displays this between the top and bottom bars... so if you're using CHT or another app to make your wallpapers fullscreen (i.e. cover the top and bottom bars) it'll look weird.
I had the same issue..... i think
yup 480*800 is correct...
Yeah, I was pretty sure on the resolution. But yes. It does cut out the top and bottom where the black bars are. Is there a way to stop it doing this?
What is CHT? I'm not using that to make them fullscreen I don't think.
Its just when I make the wallpapers because I crop most of the image and line it up with the bottom of the picture for a good "look" It most likley cuts it off on the today screen. Which cuts some of the detail out sometimes. So I have to make sure that it is far enough up the screen. I suppose I could get the resolution between the two bars. Although when you get the lock screen there would be two gaps.
Is there a way to have a different lock screen?
A reg key pointing to the image?
Thanks,
Al.
when i used to be a WM user, this is what i figured out about WM6.5(.x) behavior.
the HD2 has a 480x800 screen. WM6.5 can be set to have a wallpaper (***cough***iPhoneSux***cough). WM6.5 can also be set to have transparent "top" and "bottom" bars.
now, things start to get a little confusing.
1. ideally, we would like to see the ENTIRE wallpaper on the lockscreen and homescreen, with the status/notification icons overlaid.
2. similarly, we would like to see the ENTIRE wallpaper behind the start menu. if transparent "top" and "bottom" bars are used, we would like them to be transparent when the rest of the wallpaper is visible as just described in the scenarios.
3. however, we would like the transparency to go away when an application is running in the foreground (being able to see thin strips of the wallpaper when an application covers the rest of the screen looks silly i guess).
it turns out that WM6.5 ALMOST covers all those requirements. it sort of fails on the homescreen (where it matters most!). now, things get complicated on the homescreen also. there may be:
a. NO homescreen plugin OR...
b. the native "titanium" homescreen OR...
c. HTC's "sense" homescreen (also called touchflo, manila, etc)
now, simply using a 480x800 file yields the following results...
i think i remember that (a) fails, but most of us have SOME homescreen plugin. i think i remember that (c) also fails because "sense" seems to take over the responsibility to draw a wallpaper in its background.
i have been a loyal HTC "sense" user as long as i was using WM. i always had CHT installed as well (Cookie's Home Tab, a plugin to enhance HTC's "sense" homescreen by adding many more options). i believe CHT1.8.5 and later added a new style of wallpapers and the ability to skin" the "top" and "bottom" bars with corresponding strips of the wallpaper. this meant i could just feed it a 480x800 image and it would do the necessary clipping/cropping/skinning to achieve the effect of a seamless wallpaper, whether on the lockscreen or homescreen or when viewing the start menu. a side effect was that my "top" and "bottom" bars were always skinned, even with an application in the foreground, but such is life!
i hope that helps...
Thought I'd post this here since people in phone specific forums don't know.. how this is the right place....
With all the flexibility that Android OS is supposed to have, one restriction that is really aggravating me is the wallpaper size contstraint...
Is there any way to get rid of the wallpaper size restriction? My goal basically is to able to make a wallpaper as wide as the amount of screens I have so that when I go to a different screen it looks like a different wallpaper. To see what i mean, take a wallpaper and use 2 home screens only. When you switch between the two, it loads a half of the wallpaper, so if you made one picture with 2 480x800 pictures, it would look like two seperate wallpapers. What I would like to do is use 3 home screens, and a wallpaper created by using 3 480x800 pictures (1440x800), but whenever I try to set a wallpaper it forces me to crop it to a 960x800 area. Can anyone chime in on if this is at all possible?
Thanks!
I believe that it is dependent on the Home Launcher you choose, but there are alternatives.
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.tamanegi.wallpaper.multipicture.dnt
It does not appear launcher related. I now tried Launcher, Rosie (sense), ADW, GO Launcher, Zeam Launcher, Launcher Pro, and with all of them when you set the wallpaper it takes you through the default system for setting wallpapers, where you select the wallpaper and then get forced to crop it to a locked aspect ratio.
I'm looking for a way to either change that aspect ratio it forces you to crop your pictures to, or to get rid of it and let the damn picture show as is. I really don't understand how "the most customizable platform" has to have some stupid "this is the only size wallpaper you can use" restriction.
The multilivewallpaper will allow me to use a totally different 480x800 picture on each screen, but it doesn't have a random feature, which is what I really want...
Any devs out there know of a way to change the aspect ratio of that stupid crop tool for setting wallpapers? Or how to get rid of it?
EDIT: Just saw they updated it since last I used it and with multilive you can now have it randomly change. Thanks! Will give it a shot.
EDIT 2: Works like a charm! Never thought about going back to it, so thanks for linking it otherwise I probably would not even have bothered with it again.
Is there a launcher that allows widgets to not have margins? I want my widgets to be close together. I cant find a way to do it.
You have to use something like nova and choose like a 10x10 grid..that's the only way I think would work.

Im using nova and any grid size just doesn't work right. Say you have a 4x2 widget. Then you set Nova to 10x10. Now set the 4x2 widget. To make it look right the size changes to 10x3. Just doesnt work. Basically I want to put 3 widgets on my screen. one thats a 5x2, 5x3 and 5x3. So I would need a grid size of 8x5. But If I set it to that the widgets dont fit at all. Its because the widgets have to be re-sized so big to look right.
BUMP Until I get a answer
The only suggestion I could find for your question isn't free. Next Launcher allows you to freehand resize all widgets (meaning does not "snap to grid" resize) , even overlap. This is the lite version so you can try before you buy...

Lefty is exactly right. I've been using next launcher 3D and that's actually one of my favorite features that NO other launchers can accomplish (that I know of).
Some widgets just have funky dimensions, so it's nice to able to resize and place them literally anywhere on the screen. They can partially overlap as much or as little as you'd like.
This can also be done with apps...it looks messy, but you can turn off the grid completely and place the app icons wherever you want. You can even rotate the icons! And I won't even get into all the 3d features...I could go on forever. This is by far my favorite launcher and I've used quite a few.

The issue im having is this. No matter what launcher I use. Next 3D included. If I make the GRID Size 10 x 5 I should be able to have many widgets on my screen. So a 4x2 weather and a 4x3 Pulse and then a 3x4 Hangouts Widget and then a 2x2 photo. So I should just need a 4 x 9 grid right. Wrong because the grid is so big the a widget at 4x2 ends up being a 4x4 to view it all. I need a launcher that allows the widgets to show correctly at the default widget size. So I want a 10 x 5 grid size to actually hold more then 3 widgets. Nova Launcher is the same way. Just with Nova you can adjust the margins anymore then the 3 sizes included. With next you can make your own. But still I cant fit the 5 widgets on my screen that I want. Weather, Gmail, Hangout, Photo, Pulse. I want all those in there default widget sizes. I dont understand why making the grid size bigger makes the widgets bigger. In windows or Mac OSX when I make the rez bigger it doesnt make anything else bigger.
