I got a replacement device with stock rom recently and it suddenly started to experience stutters, lags and freezes frequently. For example, I'd be typing on the keyboard and suddenly everything stops responding. It happens in Chrome, randomly whenever I'm using the keyboard, and basically throughout the rom.
One solution is for me to wait 2 minutes and it might suddenly start responding. But the only sure solution that always works is for me to lock and unlock the device a few times (using the power button) and everything goes back to normal for two minutes until it lags and freezes again.
Thoughts anyone?
I had all the same previous apps on my previous Nexus 4 and had no problems....
RMA karma.......
........
These are tough to troubleshoot, but to narrow it down to hardware vs. software, I'd do a Factory Reset, and test, before signing into your Google Account and d/l'ing all your apps. If it works fine for a time/day, THEN sign in and only add a few apps (set Market auto update/restore off for the time being). Naturally do the apps your require daily first, and check stability for some time before adding back your 'fluff' apps. Often a poor app can be the culprit.
This happened to my nexus 7. I had it for about a month and i noiced that it started lagging really bad. Watching a video was just horrible and the responsiveness of it was bad. I just thought that it was a app or the custom rom i was running. I factory restored it and locked the bootloader and it still lagged. I just RMA'd it and i got a new one that was much better.

Actually the keyboard is screwed up too. In gesture typing it randomly draws lower on the keyboard than I'm actually drawing. I'm guessing that it is a hardware or touchscreen sensor problem. I did an RMA and Fido Asurion promised to have a replacement to me by July 3rd. The only problem is that they only seem to send out refurbished phones for RMA's.

Yeah..if it's acting up after a Factory Reset, then no amount of fiddling will solve it. Sorry man!

I have had my transformer and keybaord for about a week. I have upgraded to the 3.1 OS and numerous times during the day, the tablet reboots randomly throughout the day, only while connected to the keyboard dock. It also has never done this while I was actually interacting with it, just when it is sitting in front of me screen asleep. ASUS support of course has advised me to do a factory wipe and to wait before reloading apps to see if problem still exists. my questions:
1. Has anyone else experienced this same issue?
2. Is there any type of a log file or event viewer that i can get to that could give some reason for this happening?
Thanks!!

Yes, I had this issue ever since I update to 3.1 from 3.0.1. I already open a post few days ago regarding this issue. At that time, no one else have this issue.
Last night my TF tablet rebooted automatically without docking to the keyboard dock... (this is after I did a system wipe after I upgrade to "Leaked 3.1" for the second time). It kept on rebooting non-stop for about 5 minutes. I took out the microsd card and power it off. After this, I put the microsd card back into the tablet and it worked again... But after this incident, my TF tablet has been up for about 12 hours without a reboot. I haven't dock it to the keyboard dock this morning. I'm sure it will auto reboot again once I do.
I"m having the same issue except when my TF reboots it also completely wipes the system, this has happened twice already and I'm not very happy.
It's happening to me too. It's really wierd, never when I interact with it, but I will just be looking at it and it's on the Asus screen all of a sudden. WTF
Mine has started doing this yesterdya, it only happens while it's idle, never while I'm playing with it, I'll just look over and it's on the ASUS logo and I realize it's rebooting. I just installed quite a few games on Sunday night, along with an AV software, instant messenger, a new battery widget that shows a graphic for your tablet and dock battery level, and keyboard pro so I went through first and uninstalled the AV software, instant messenger, and keyboard pro and going to see if any of those were the problem. I really think this is likely a software issue rather than a random hardware issue that just starts happening weeks after purchase, doesn't make sense.

What software did you use that shows the dock battery level? Is it a free software?
I think the random reboot issue has to do with 3.1 update. Mine never happened when I had 3.0.1. I think Google and Asus know about this... I think they will come up with a solution hopefully soon.

That's the link for the battery widget, I did just install that yesterday morning too so it's possible that may be causing it for me I dunno. I updated to 3.1 last Tuesday or Wednesday and I don't recall seeing this random reboot issue until yesterday so I'm not too sure it's the 3.1 update itself causing it, I still think it's some app or combo of apps I've installed that's doing it...
Hello everyone. I've done a few searches on here but haven't found this exact problem. Relevant details without extra background info are in bold.
My wife and I each got an S4 with Sprint's recent BOGO promotion. My phone has had no issues. It came with MDL in the box, which I updated to MF9 via OTA, flashed TWRP via Heimdall in Linux, rooted, and installed the hotspot mod.
Her phone - completely stock MF9 and new from the store - has had problems, one of which I've so far been unable to fix. (How I wish it were mine. I develop for Android, but this is much more of a pain for her.) Hers already had MF9 at the store. It had the Google Services Framework/Core Apps runaway process issue with heat/battery drain from the start - which I fixed. However, it also has unresponsive sensors for ~3 seconds when receiving a call. It's almost as if there's some lag in activating the sensors. The phone is otherwise snappy with no other lag noted.
- Hard reset has been tried.
- The touchscreen is unresponsive during this time, though the display functions.
- The gesture for answering (when enabled) also does not work.
- We haven't tried enabling the home key to answer, but this will be next.
I've seen this before with Android a good while back. It was an inherent problem with Gingerbread on many phones. Haven't seen it pop up in Jellybean at all. In trying to diagnose, I've ensured that all bells and whistles are turned off. No air gestures are on.
We'd really like to get it working as it should. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice?
Many thanks!
I believe this is more of a stock software issue. I have had the issue since day one.
When I turned off svoice and some of the other added features most of the lag disappeared. Svoice is pretty good at creating lag as far as ive seen.
Voice response seems to create th lag as it is awaiting a voice command from you.
This is what I have noticed anyway.

Hi guys i got some freezing issues, anyone got an idea what could it be? i'm totally new to Android/tablets, so other then this info, i don't know what else to say, or explain the issue better, it just freezing for like 5 sec, and after it works normal, its random freezing. I hope anyone can help me, thanks.
Is it when you update or install apps?
This is normal, the OS can freeze for a few seconds during write operations.

No overclock at all, Kernel - 3.4.0-g9e52a21
Build number JSS15R all stock here. No custom ROM's..
I experience the same BS on an all stock WIFI model (2013.06 date code). Thought it was JB 4.3 teething pain but my Note 3 running 4.3 doesn't do it. Have mainly noticed it playing Great Big War Game where it'll randomly freeze the whole tablet once per launch for about 10 secs where nothing responds (show touch, home, switch task, etc.) then it'll either return to normal or prompt with dialog to wait or close. Have also had it happen in Modern Combat 3 along with the random app close that, again, doesn't affect Note 3. Haven't seen newer apps affected so perhaps it's a software issue and is fixable but it's irritating nevertheless considering it's a Nexus device and after correcting the touch issues with ts10 firmware update. Going to try reflashing the stock image to see if it fixes it otherwise looking forward to dumping this Asus for a Note 10.1 2014 LTE. My Note 10.1 2013 and Note 2 have been 100% solid with never a crash, hang or touch issues.
I had freezing problems when i was trying out the TS20 fix. TS10 seems to yield erratic behaviour randomly after each reboot.
Ever snce i've been testing the ones between TS10 and TS20. TS16 works better for me than TS18 - just being more responsive but both has no reboot issues. Am testing TS14 now and it seems better than TS16 but i needed more time to run it. None of the 14,16 and 18 has given me any kind of freeze after 24hrs of testing on multi-touch intensive apps.
You might wanna give 16 a try... i will be posting a more detailed update in sfhub's thread when i'm done with TS14 and TS12 testing.
Cheers
Thanks for the answers guys, but this is really new to me, i got no idea what is TS 14, TS 18 or TS16, can you guys explain me a bit? thanks.
I had the same issue. Please see my observations at post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46082214#post46082214
However, I have recently tried to uninstall all apps (backing up with titanium backup) and installing back in bunches. With only the apps/games I use daily, the issue appears to have subsided, and I am trying to slowly bring apps back to see what the issue is.
Original post for consolidation purposes:
When it happens: Touch intensive Games (drastic, MMOJ, Dumb Ways) appears to be when the 3D GPU is NOT in use, netflix, when paused for a short while.
What happens:
1. Screen does not update display appears frozen
2. No response from nav bar icons
3. Power, volume buttons give no response.
4. If audio was playing right before it froze, it will keep playing as if nothing wrong.
5. If I hit the power button or the nav button then let it sit for a few minutes, suddenly it will react to every press I did in quick motion and go back to normal.
5a. I had show touches enabled, which showed a random number of the frozen touches working in quick succession when it "unfroze"
6. Sometimes requires a hard restart with no response.
When it started: Right before the Q update starting rolling out, did not have issues out of the box.
Purchase date and location: Right around the time of launch from best buy, 32 GB 2013 version
Troubleshooting steps: Safe mode (doesn't appear as often), full factory restore to the Q image when the R image started rolling out. Issues were gone for a short timeframe, then returned
Config information: Stock, latest firmware version, rooted via TWRP (latest version installed), and SU.
Observation: Appears to occur in select situations, and I believe I always have a GMAIL notification right when it un-freezes.
Let me know what you think and if it should be merged with a different topic, didn't see anything about it un-freezing when it was frozen or audio still playing.

Please refer to this thread for a fix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2428133
The fix from the thread above helps with many touchscreen issues including freezes.
At least it helped with mine. I was experiencing freezes and so called "sticky touches" (like when you short tap on something and the device interprets it as a tap and hold).
My device came with pre-Q and went through three OTA updates. After reflashing with factory R image minus wiping data (remove -w from flash-all.bat file) and with ts10 all appear to be better so far. Modern Combat 3 still randomly closes but it could be Gameloft's crappy coding. Need to run it for a few more days to confirm but reflashing factory R image with ts10 offer the best experience so far.
Mine does too now in addition to the already random reboot. The freezing happens when I try to input text on the keyboard.

issue 1, Sometime while listening to music on my phone; it starts to sort of clip the audio. It happens randomly with any music (possibly any sounds) using the headphone jack. this is not a consequence of volume nor a consequence of source. the only cure is time. I have tried rebooting the phone and clearing ram, nothing helps. I have tried lowering the volume, switching sources such as my saved spotify music, google play music , youtube, youtube music. I also have tried different headphones, speakers and even different cars. the issue remains the same. my only conclusion is that is a software bug because of the inconsistency. any ideas?
Issue 2, Boot time. I just timed my boot time on my rooted 6p. it is 2:05. is it just me or is that hella long for a new phone?
Issue 3, Lag outs and lock ups. My phone frequently will lag out or lock up causing he phone to be unusable until i clear the ram, the odd thing is that i am no where near 3gb of ram used. usually around the low 2's. any solutions?
Issue 4, Using the camera to record video. Yesterday i had a friend record my speech in class, when i got my phone back,My phone had locked up after i left the camera app and the back was incredibly hot. he recorded me in 1080p. I do not imagine there is a solution. just thought i would post the issue.
Chances are i will be contacting Project Fi and get a new phone from them.
As you can imagine i am a little frustrated with this device, I purchased what a thought to be a flagship-esque nexus and I it has turned out to be my least favorite phone I have ever owned.
I would RMA it. Sounds like you got unlucky and possibly have a hardware issue...could be a bad board.
Yours must be defective, I got mine yesterday and I've not run into any of the issues you describe. I haven't filmed yet but absolutely no lag or locking up. My music (Spotify) is fine as well, just have an issue with my Turtle Beach headset (software related I think).
I'd RMA if I were you.

You've got bad hardware, contact Google for a return.
Not scientific but less than 1 minute to go from boot warning to home screen.
Two minutes seems long.

Don't mean to scare you, but that is exactly what was happening to me right before going into an unrecoverable bootloop. Nothing I tried revived the device, although there have been some that have been able to. I ended up RMA'ing my device as nothing I did brought it back to life. You might be in a different situation but just giving you a heads up.
*Bump*
Stock 7.1.1 and rooted here. I've been on the official 7.1.1 release for our 6P's since early December, and for the past week or so, I've been experiencing freezing as well. I'd be in the middle of typing in Hangouts, streaming music in the car via bluetooth and Spotify, or just waking the phone up from sleep. For the past few days, I've been getting 3-4 freezes per day.
On rare occasions, I've left the phone alone to settle, and it returns to normal, but more times than not, a hard reset is the only 'fix'; until the next freeze.
I reluctantly wiped the phone, unrooted, flashed stock 7.1.1 and re-rooted all via NRT last night. The phone froze again this morning coming off the charger...
Granted, it decided to restore 528mb's worth of WhatsApp history as soon as I unplugged it (why it didn't restore on charger overnight is beyond me though). Will update if it freezes again.
The phone runs butter smooth with zero issues other than these freezing occurrences though. MO, the 6P is the best all-rounded phone currently available, even if it's a year old already.
Appreciate any help or suggestions!!
That's odd try ex kernel and over clock or try HEBF manager on play store
Quick update. Couldn't bear the multiple freezes per day, so I called Google to ask for help. Apparently I've done everything I can on my end (including a factory reset and updating to the latest firmware), so they sent out a replacement 6P to me free of charge. They'll also be covering the courier/shipping costs for my old 6P too. Fantastic customer service. Kudos to them!! I called them Tuesday morning (20th Dec) Australian time, and received my replacement 6P Friday afternoon (23rd Dec). Very quick indeed
Half a day after setting up my replacement 6P, including updating to 7.1.1, I started getting the same symptoms as my old 6P. Freezing, unresponsiveness, etc. Persisted for another day and had enough. I've since done a full wipe and downgraded back to the final 6.0.1 release, and it's been stable as a rock for 3 days now. No freezes, lagginess, nothing.
So I deduce it might actually be a software issue with 7.1.1, and not a hardware problem. It appears a growing number of Pixel and Pixel XL users are also experiencing random freezes on their new phones running 7.1.1 too...
Looks like I'll stick with 6.0.1 until Google makes a formal announcement and something is done about 7.1.1. I've missed Xposed and GravityBox too, so 6.0.1 is all good. Most importantly, it's stable
Had you ever tried booting into safe mode to see if maybe an app was causing the issue? Maybe a compatibility issue between an installed app(s) and 7.1.1

Thanks for the pro tip. I did consider doing that with the replacement 6P, but the only apps that I had installed were the stock Google ones that came with 7.1.1, WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and SwiftKey. I just assumed if such popular apps were the cause, a lot more people would have pinpointed them as the problem?
I did however read a few users claiming SwiftKey to be the culprit prior to RMA'ing my old device, but even after uninstalling that from my old phone, I was still getting the freezing issues.
