Hi guys i got some freezing issues, anyone got an idea what could it be? i'm totally new to Android/tablets, so other then this info, i don't know what else to say, or explain the issue better, it just freezing for like 5 sec, and after it works normal, its random freezing. I hope anyone can help me, thanks.
Is it when you update or install apps?
This is normal, the OS can freeze for a few seconds during write operations.

No overclock at all, Kernel - 3.4.0-g9e52a21
Build number JSS15R all stock here. No custom ROM's..
I experience the same BS on an all stock WIFI model (2013.06 date code). Thought it was JB 4.3 teething pain but my Note 3 running 4.3 doesn't do it. Have mainly noticed it playing Great Big War Game where it'll randomly freeze the whole tablet once per launch for about 10 secs where nothing responds (show touch, home, switch task, etc.) then it'll either return to normal or prompt with dialog to wait or close. Have also had it happen in Modern Combat 3 along with the random app close that, again, doesn't affect Note 3. Haven't seen newer apps affected so perhaps it's a software issue and is fixable but it's irritating nevertheless considering it's a Nexus device and after correcting the touch issues with ts10 firmware update. Going to try reflashing the stock image to see if it fixes it otherwise looking forward to dumping this Asus for a Note 10.1 2014 LTE. My Note 10.1 2013 and Note 2 have been 100% solid with never a crash, hang or touch issues.
I had freezing problems when i was trying out the TS20 fix. TS10 seems to yield erratic behaviour randomly after each reboot.
Ever snce i've been testing the ones between TS10 and TS20. TS16 works better for me than TS18 - just being more responsive but both has no reboot issues. Am testing TS14 now and it seems better than TS16 but i needed more time to run it. None of the 14,16 and 18 has given me any kind of freeze after 24hrs of testing on multi-touch intensive apps.
You might wanna give 16 a try... i will be posting a more detailed update in sfhub's thread when i'm done with TS14 and TS12 testing.
Cheers
Thanks for the answers guys, but this is really new to me, i got no idea what is TS 14, TS 18 or TS16, can you guys explain me a bit? thanks.
I had the same issue. Please see my observations at post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46082214#post46082214
However, I have recently tried to uninstall all apps (backing up with titanium backup) and installing back in bunches. With only the apps/games I use daily, the issue appears to have subsided, and I am trying to slowly bring apps back to see what the issue is.
Original post for consolidation purposes:
When it happens: Touch intensive Games (drastic, MMOJ, Dumb Ways) appears to be when the 3D GPU is NOT in use, netflix, when paused for a short while.
What happens:
1. Screen does not update display appears frozen
2. No response from nav bar icons
3. Power, volume buttons give no response.
4. If audio was playing right before it froze, it will keep playing as if nothing wrong.
5. If I hit the power button or the nav button then let it sit for a few minutes, suddenly it will react to every press I did in quick motion and go back to normal.
5a. I had show touches enabled, which showed a random number of the frozen touches working in quick succession when it "unfroze"
6. Sometimes requires a hard restart with no response.
When it started: Right before the Q update starting rolling out, did not have issues out of the box.
Purchase date and location: Right around the time of launch from best buy, 32 GB 2013 version
Troubleshooting steps: Safe mode (doesn't appear as often), full factory restore to the Q image when the R image started rolling out. Issues were gone for a short timeframe, then returned
Config information: Stock, latest firmware version, rooted via TWRP (latest version installed), and SU.
Observation: Appears to occur in select situations, and I believe I always have a GMAIL notification right when it un-freezes.
Let me know what you think and if it should be merged with a different topic, didn't see anything about it un-freezing when it was frozen or audio still playing.

Please refer to this thread for a fix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2428133
The fix from the thread above helps with many touchscreen issues including freezes.
At least it helped with mine. I was experiencing freezes and so called "sticky touches" (like when you short tap on something and the device interprets it as a tap and hold).
My device came with pre-Q and went through three OTA updates. After reflashing with factory R image minus wiping data (remove -w from flash-all.bat file) and with ts10 all appear to be better so far. Modern Combat 3 still randomly closes but it could be Gameloft's crappy coding. Need to run it for a few more days to confirm but reflashing factory R image with ts10 offer the best experience so far.
Mine does too now in addition to the already random reboot. The freezing happens when I try to input text on the keyboard.

Hi All,
I'm currently experiencing a problem, that I know has popped up on this forum a couple of times, but not for the Nexus 4 specifically.(As far as I know....)
The problem appears to be random freezes, where the device just stops, screen freezes, no hardware or software buttons respond, and requires the power button to be held down for a few seconds to restart... It happens once or twice a day, at random intervals, mainly when i'm at the home screen or just browsing Chrome (Beta).... My Nexus is running the latest Nightly of CyanogenMod 10.1, build 20130529, although this was happening on the RC1 build too... Also running the latest franco.kernel 3.4.0 and Clockwork Recovery. Haven't partitioned, restored any backups etc as of yet. I also have about 230 apps, so if it could be software related, there's i high chance one of those has got something to do with it!
A suggestion or solution that doesn't involve fiddling around with ROMs, kernels and other stuff would be great, i'm not much good at that sort of thing and don't allocate much time to fiddling about with my phone, but nevertheless if required i could give it a shot....
Thanks,
I got a replacement device with stock rom recently and it suddenly started to experience stutters, lags and freezes frequently. For example, I'd be typing on the keyboard and suddenly everything stops responding. It happens in Chrome, randomly whenever I'm using the keyboard, and basically throughout the rom.
One solution is for me to wait 2 minutes and it might suddenly start responding. But the only sure solution that always works is for me to lock and unlock the device a few times (using the power button) and everything goes back to normal for two minutes until it lags and freezes again.
Thoughts anyone?
I had all the same previous apps on my previous Nexus 4 and had no problems....
RMA karma.......
........
These are tough to troubleshoot, but to narrow it down to hardware vs. software, I'd do a Factory Reset, and test, before signing into your Google Account and d/l'ing all your apps. If it works fine for a time/day, THEN sign in and only add a few apps (set Market auto update/restore off for the time being). Naturally do the apps your require daily first, and check stability for some time before adding back your 'fluff' apps. Often a poor app can be the culprit.
This happened to my nexus 7. I had it for about a month and i noiced that it started lagging really bad. Watching a video was just horrible and the responsiveness of it was bad. I just thought that it was a app or the custom rom i was running. I factory restored it and locked the bootloader and it still lagged. I just RMA'd it and i got a new one that was much better.

Actually the keyboard is screwed up too. In gesture typing it randomly draws lower on the keyboard than I'm actually drawing. I'm guessing that it is a hardware or touchscreen sensor problem. I did an RMA and Fido Asurion promised to have a replacement to me by July 3rd. The only problem is that they only seem to send out refurbished phones for RMA's.

Yeah..if it's acting up after a Factory Reset, then no amount of fiddling will solve it. Sorry man!
Hi folks
I received my OP2 in July 2016, and this issue has been a mild periodic annoyance. As I approach the end of my warranty, I want to be 100% confident that this issue is software rather than hardware... (so rather than a fix, my highest priority is confirming that I do not have a hardware defect)
The issue is that the screen rotation will stop working for most, but not all apps (OnePlus Camera is the sole exception, it seems). It will rotate normally for a couple weeks and then I'll notice in some app, usually YouTube or Facebook first, that the screen orientation won't rotate anymore. Once I notice it in any app, no other app rotates either except the stock camera. I have been experiencing this symptom on-and-off for most of the time I've had the device, spanning multiple OOS releases (currently 3.5.8 and still happening).
A reboot fixes the condition, then it works fine for a week or two and comes back. OnePlus support suggested a factory reset, which I've done pursuing this issue before, and it didn't help (it immediately helped, obviously, but the issue did return on the same schedule as before).
I had my OP2 rooted, but still using the stock ROM otherwise, for several months (to be able to use Adblock). I reverted to 100% stock configuration pursuing this issue, it happened the same before/during/after the time it was rooted.
I have checked out the accelerometer with the app "Test Your Android" and watched the graph in the "gravity sensor" test. When the phone is in its non-rotating state and I rotate the phone, the graph lines cross but the app stays in portrait. This makes me think the phone knows it has rotated. I reboot the phone, redo the same test, and the graph looks similar except the app now rotates as well (ironic, really).
Is there a background service for "screen orientation" similar to how Play Services provides GPS information to other apps? If so, am I right in suspecting that the service responsible for answering the question, "what way is the device oriented currently?" is either not answering, or answering incorrectly?
I would prefer not to go to a third party ROM just to test this as I'm very happy with the current config of my device, other than this issue popping up from time to time. Any input is appreciated.
Thanks!
OOS has a tonne of services running under android system continuously. Screen orientation feedback might be one of them. I haven't used OOS in months. It doesn't seem like a hardware issue since a reboot solves it. If it is too frustrating then try testing it on a custom rom. You can switch back to stock once you are sure it was a problem in OOS or not.

The more I think about it, the more stupid it seems to have a device that is rather well-supported by custom ROM devs and to not try some out.
I'll shop around for a ROM and give it a shot. I'm thinking and hoping this is strictly a software issue.

In case you want suggestions, try these:
Bliss
Halogen
Validus
Lineage 13
Well, I have the same issue on my OP2 intermittently and it does not matter which rom I am using. In addition to OOS, I have had this issue on Marshmallow Cyanogenmod / Nougat Lineage based roms. Sooner or later it always returns. It seems to happen after longer uptime periods. E.g. with OOS3 I had an uptime stretch of 40+ days (without a reboot), so during this time I experienced the autorotation issue multiple times. It seems to get fixed by itself, but then comes back again. A reboot fixes it usually for longer period of time. As I am now on a custom rom, which is updated quite often, at least once of twice a week, the uptime stretches are not that long and I do not experience this issue often. I have noticed that the step counting sensors also stop working intermittently.
On rooted lineage based rom you can manually restart the sensors with following terminal commands:
su
stop sensors
start sensors
Don't know if this works on OOS. I made a tasker task shortcut for this on my homescreen.
Interesting...I have had the problem on-and-off I'd say, sometimes it follows this ~2 week pattern, sometimes it'll go longer than a month with no issues that I've noticed. Of course, it's also fairly rare that I watch videos on my phone and this is the main time that I realize it won't rotate.
Of course, with the current trend being to make all videos square with unnecessary obnoxious text in the letterbox black space, I suppose I'll never need to rotate my phone again </sarcasm>.
Prior to utkarsh102's suggestions I had already flashed AOSPExtended so I'm going to try rolling with this for a short time, if any issues surface (unrelated to my rotation issue) I'll try another ROM. Given that I'm trying to diagnose this issue before my warranty runs out (yeah, shoulda done it sooner, I know) I'll need to have a usable solution that can run stable for weeks uninterrupted to catch this again, if it's going to happen again.
FYI OnePlus support was entirely unhelpful about this issue. They completely disregarded the fact that it is intermittent and was not currently happening when I reported it to them. They were not able to suggest any diagnostic effort I could take to narrow down the issue further. Viewing the accelerometer readings was my own idea, not theirs. That suggestion absolutely should have come from them.
I do know I'm/we're not isolated in having this issue as there are other forum posts on various sites complaining of it.
I'll keep this thread updated with my findings, in the meantime anyone who has experienced this issue please chime in. It would be helpful to present to OnePlus, though I get the impression they won't care as they seem to have classified the 2 as a legacy product at this point. It's not like we're trying to get parts for a dot-matrix printer here.
Edit, October 2017, to provide an update without bumping the thread:
I've been using AOSPExtended on a constant basis since my last update to this thread and while I have experienced a variety of other issues, this particular one with the screen rotation has not affected me. My uptime has never been super long, but long enough at times that I should have seen this issue if it were going to happen following the same pattern as before.

So quick rant. Updated to 10.0 from the zip file posted a couple pages back. I have a standard international model straight from the site, not t-mobile version or anything like that. I've been unrooted since the beginning and still am. I've never touched a beta. My phone is as stock as it can get and not once have I ever had an issue up until this "stable" update. I went from 9.0.17 to 10 (and I really hope it's not just me), and boy does this have issues. If anyone is also experiencing any of these symptoms and has a fix please help.
Issue 1:
I now have this black bar at the bottom of the keyboard that won't go away no matter if I change the height in gboard settings or wipe data and force close and re-update the app even wiping cache in recovery did nothing. I've read other places that this is a thing for Q if you have gestures enabled to give you room at the bottom, but that's seriously BS as if this is the case it should've been an optional setting because now I get screwed up when I type because everything is raised. It's the same on any other keyboard app I've tried.
Issue 2:
Random reboots. This is with no apps open with the phone literally just sitting next to me as I'm doing work. When I'll look at my phone to see ambient it'll just randomly be rebooting. I keep getting them and I have no clue why. Idk if anyone else is experiencing this but sometimes it'll even get stuck in a boot loop and look as if it's bricked then I force restart it using the power and volume keys and it'll boot up for a while until it does that again and I have to keep redoing the process. Again, I tried wiping cache from recovery and I literally went in and force closed every user app I had that wasn't related to the system to no avail.
Issue 3:
Also, there's a brightness and color issue that I'm not quite sure are related but either way they don't work well. If I select the force dark mode in developer settings with enhance video in display settings, or even sometimes one or the other, it'll do either one of two things or both. Either makes every app dark mode and doesn't revert black text to white on apps that are able to support it, and/or it dims videos in landscape mode to lowest brightness no matter if I try to change it, meanwhile the videos are at the proper brightness level in portrait mode.
Issue 4:
Another minor issue is with the fingerprint animation. I've had the McLaren animation from the no-root bypass from another thread somewhere in the phones' forums and when it updated it switched it back to that basic ripple animation. When I try to fix it again and change it as described in the other thread using "setedit" changing the custom fingerprint animation value to 3, it doesn't work and won't set it. It is also noticeably slower from the McLaren animation and it's a small issue but still really annoying.
Issue 5:
Battery life is hit with this update. I usually get around 7hrs~ SOT from the time I wake up to the time I put it back onto the charger with around 15% or so to spare. Last night, I charged it fully and took it off the charger around 2ish and didn't touch it until 8, which is about the same as I normally do daily because I'm a student so I stay up late b/c studying and I don't want to kill the battery overnight so I unplug it right when I sleep and its always at 100% when I unplug. As of right now, its 4:45pm and it's at 32% with 4 hours of SOT from 8-now through minimal, like extremely minimal, use.
I've attached screenshots for most of these issues. I even tried to re-flash the whole update again to overwrite the first attempts', but at this point I just want to go back to 9.0.17 w/o losing data, which is probably a super long shot. I am just super confused as to how this update made it through the stable channel. If you haven't updated, dont.

1. The Keyboard issue is with all Phones on Q. Like how Apple has the space at the bottom of their Keyboard for Gestures. Unfortunately there is no way to get rid of that but of you're using Q Gestures try Hiding the Pill. The option is there in Gestures.
2. Random Reboots. Now these are annoying. Personally, I had been Daily Driving the Beta for a while. Haven't tried Stable Yet but I had no Random Reboots. Updating from Pie to Q can leave many Apps Broken and long story short that's the casue of your Reboots as well as Battery Darin. My advice is to Factory Reset and Download everything from Play Store. And the McLaren Animation is another known issues. Even the McLaren users Don't have it. Could be wrong
Simply backup storage....Format...go back to 9.0.17 and enjoy.
The Keyboard-Extra-Space at the bottom is not an issue. Its a feature of the gBoard. It was introduced to have a better typing position.
Okay so I face the same issues as you do that is issue 2 and issue 5
issue 2 got solved on its own idk how, i just factory resetted once and wiped cache twice and just left it the way it was (it rebooted and stuck on bootloop twice) then it just stopped, its been a whole day since its been fixed.
issue 5 i face the same but idk how to resolve that, probably with a new update where they fix all these issues if reported by oneplus members

It's not just for gboard. I use swiftkey and still had that space, which annoys me for some unknown reason. I wasn't able to completely get rid of it, but reduced it by using Navigation Gestures,
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xda.nobar
I only enabled the "Hide Navigation Bar" option and it shrunk it down a bit. Still noticeable, but less annoying now.

Really really dumb question, but if I factory reset the device is going to cause a problem for twrp or magisk? I'm thinking I would just have to reinstall magisk manager and modules correct? Twrp and magisk themselves would still be intact?

After factory reset you'll loose twrp & magisk....
The best you can do is , reinstall the stable 10 through local upgrade, boot to OS ( now you have stock recovery & unrooted) boot to stock recovery and wipe data
Boot to fresh android 10 system....
Now to root the device, boot on fastboot and flash the magisk patched img ...
Reboot ..install magisk manager and install magisk from there ( choose direct install)
Forget the twrp ... doesn't work properly atm ( decryption issues) ..
I see a lot of users updating from pie to Q without wiping data and then are reporting issues ( not working sensors, lags , hiccups, increased battery life, etc)
Go and make a clean install and enjoy android 10...

The Keyboard-Extra-Space at the bottom is not an issue. Its a feature of the gBoard. It was introduced to have a better typing position.

I've been waiting for MONTHS to get that space at the bottom in Q and I hope that OnePlus won't remove that feature just to humour some people who don't know sh* about UX. My finger hurts and almost slipped my phone many times when I was trying to reach the spacebar prior to Q

That was really concise, however to which "magisk patched img" do you refer?

I've just purchased a Tab S5e but appear to be having some issues with the touchscreen. I first noticed it when scrolling, occasionally the scrolling would stop and the device would click on anything that was under my finger. I also noticed this when playing a game where a finger needed to be held on the screen, it was sometimes appear to the game that my finger was removed.
I recorded a video of what i'm experiencing here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-33ixSpHRijjhb8g-MNLvbjMvuPRuGrQ. I did not remove my finger at all whilst drawing in white, but gaps appear.
I guess my question is has anyone else experienced this, or could this be a hardware fault? I thinking of returning this and waiting for the S6e or similar rumoured to be out soon.
Thanks all!
I'm experiencing touch screen problems where I sometimes need to tap the display 3 or 4 times before the screen will register the touch. I've only had mine for a few days but Im thinking about returning as well.
I was going through the threads for the first time to see if there were similar issues reported or tips to minimize the issue.
After switching from the Huawei Mate 20 Pro to the Samsung S10+ and from a Huawei tablet to this I have to say I'm seriously underwhelmed with Samsung.

Did you somehow solve the probelm?

Nope. The problem doesn't occur when playing games or using apps that test the display--but does with pretty much everything else. Some apps also have very pronounced jelly effect while scrolling including the Samsung Members App--scrolling through posts has so much jelly effect it makes me feel like I'm going blind.
Earlier Galaxy Tab devices had a calibration setting to adjust touch sensitivity but the type of panel used in the S5e apparently can't be user calibrated. Some people have claimed that the pointer speed setting is the same thing but touch sensitivity and response speed aren't the same thing and increasing that setting to the max didn't improve anything for me. If you want a faster response that's one thing but if the touch doesn't even register in the first place then there isn't anything to speed up.
The game optomizer service running in the background clearly ramps up the kernel when playing games to eliminate or minimize the touch issues and display test apps are treated like games and also get the extra performance boost--but with a locked bootloader I don't think there are any user options besides not purchasing Samsung in the first place.
Would a custom rom solve this?

I always check before buying a tablet to make sure there is developement of custom ROMs in XDA. And the first thing I do when I get one is to root and install one. Are there still "touch problems" with my ROM? Yes and no. I've noticed with this and other tablets that when the tablet first boots, there can be a lag in touch response. But I don't think it has anything to do with "touch sensitivity". I think the problem is that the OS is still "setting up" and just isn't ready to accept touches. (Try it on a Win 10 box. There is a terrific delay between the time the desktop screen first appears and the time it is ready.) This can also be true of apps. The screen can display before the app is ready for input. IMNSHO, I think some people just love to find reasons to knock "the vendor they love to hate".:crying:
Since I bought this tablet, I noticed that issue, the screen detects the touch, but it does not perform the action I want, open an app, select something, etc. I learned to live with it, but that is annoying !!, I installed a Custom ROM specifically [ROM] [UNOFFICIAL] [gts4lvwifi] [10] LineageOS 17.1 and I can confirm that the issue disappears, the problem for which I returned to STOCK, is the cut down quality of Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, because Widevine Level certification . and now in STOCK, I lost Samsung PASS, because it detects that I have the rooted device. fyi, my model is SM-t720.
