Hi,
Some of you guys may remember, some of you may not, but soon after our Note 2 was released there was an avalanche of ROMs for Note 1 with features ported from Note 2, like for instance Airview in gallery and videos (Note 1 didn't have that) and multitasking. Some waited for an official ROM by Samsung, and when it eventually came, with la few months of delay, some of those features ported from Note 2 still weren't included.
What I'm saying here is, instead of waiting for that October release, ( http://youtu.be/VbsAslbUYx0?t=50m52s ) those that know how to port are invited to make cool ROMs that have these kind of features from Note 3 and maybe Samsung Galaxy S4 included. (who knows if Samsung is not going to delay the Note2 update again like it did with Note 1 having in view that Android 4.4 is expected to be launched on Oct 14 or maybe they'll surprise us and the October release will jump directly to KitKat )
Now I don't expect this to be easy, porting apps that were made for Android 4.3 and with FHD screen resolution in mind, but I'm just asking this if it's possible.
If you know such ROMs and I missed them, please post them in this thread. Thanks.
(So far these apps from Note 3 seem to work fine on Note 2: Bloomberg+, MagazineHome+Flipboard, SketchBook see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335530 )
Too soon to ask for anything yet, I think. And don't forget, the LTE version of note 2 is the less supported by the community.

We need a leak first to even think about developing such a ROM.

Well the title say it all I will explain why I made such statement this is because as most if you guys know 4.4 will be out in October 15 which is less then 3 weeks from today... And the biggest issue is that once Google roll out 4.4 cyanogenmod developers will focus on 4.4( CyanogenMod 11) which will make 4.3 deprecated..
Unless all this changes :/ and I think the most annoying issue we are facing now is there isn't any news about Sony rolling out firmware update for xperia Z despite saying the developers have been working on it for sometime already...
Also those who are using CyanogenMod 10.2(4.3) will noticed some screen flickering issue which is Terrible at the moment !! I have no idea if this exists on latest 10.1 stable release... It seems to be cause by qcom display and blobs from sony incompatible with 4.3....
Sent from my C6603(Xerpia Z)
Honestly, i couldn't care less about 4.3. There is nothing interesting in it..Google should have skipped it. I'd take kitkat over 4.3 anytime..

Cyanogenmod, my what a terrible, terrible direction you have gone. Talk about fragmentation, most devices are lagging behind stock updates? What happened to latest and greatest before the official updates?
Im so butthurt
I think they have just bit off more than they can chew. By constantly adding devices, it seems the quality is going down dramatically and it is harder to keep all the devices up to date.
You think you have it bad? Just imagine how the people that wasted $600 dollars on the cyanogenmod version of the Oppo N1 feel. $600 for a phone that was suppose to be supported by cm and receive updates in a timely fashion, which is still stuck on 10.2 jellybean for its last stable release. And these guys claim they're going to be able to update the one plus one for two years? Ha, we'll see.
If any of you actually read the cm blog you'd know the reason.

That doesn't explain what's been stated here. Right or wrong, people here are saying dev is slow and buggy, and sometimes it doesn't exist. That's the case of Moto G CM11. Never saw a CM build so buggy after 6 months of developement.
Is Cyanogen obliged to provide us with fast, stable and beautiful builds? Of course not.
Is it true that when Cyanogen was "mod" and not "Inc" things where much better for the open source community, since they are now too busy keeping up with their first phone (retailing of the OnePlus One has been delayed twice and wasn't about hardware, thought)? I think the answer is yes.

I'm not disagreeing with you. The People who are expecting builds labeled as stable are gonna be waiting for a long time.
A lot of the opens source community dispersed, moved to omnirom and/or other projects.

Omnirom guys began as they moved away from the project when it became a profit company, that's true. But that's not the problem, actually, some guys from other pojects left open source and joined Cyanogen Inc. The problem is much more simple: things work differently when your goal is to make money. It's not a felony, course, but it's a "sin" in terms of opensource spirit, and now we are seen it's tangible results.
CM has lost it's soul, it's original purpose, so now things are being rushed and pushed, and the guys working on it's non-profitable branches, even when they are doing their best (and I do thank them for sharing they work with us in exchange of nothing... except for the private information that now CM collects from every user), it's not the same as it was before. Put the label you want on their builds... stable, M1, XGKT512, it doesn't matter, the result is slow, buggy and unstable, if you compare to what CM was until it's 10.2 version.
Maybe it would be great do have info about known issues updated: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Known_Issues_page_for_falcon?setlang=en-gb. And less disappointment would arise.
You do realize that updates depend on the device maintainer, and if there isn't any then we won't get updates?

That's the reason why when I got my current XT1033, I don't bothered to root and install custom roms! With Motorola still timely updating their software, that's no reason for custom roms. My previous phone Sony X8, I rooted and install various CM based roms, In my opinion, new functions/features were introduced for the sake of adding a long list of features in that roms without considering the stability and functionality issue, while at the same time more and more bugs were introduced. Many times the phone just don't worked when its matter most! Real frustrated but you can't complain because all are worked on their own freewill basis.
I have installed CM 10.2.1 on two Nooks because the Nook software, based on 4.0.4, is crap, IMO. I also have a 2013 Nexus 7 and my wife has a Moto X. I wouldn't dream of putting CM on either of those devices. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. YMMV.

I know that sony can definitely make it. Z1 is a beast even these days, and it isnt much different compared to Z2. It's just sony doesnt care to do it coz it's old. Though I think Z1's life should be a little longer compared to the original Z. A little unfair here.

Judging from driver issues(ex: No 5GHz wifi listed on some device, and terrible wifi speed) on both 5.0.2 & 5.1.1, SONY seems to doing copy & paste the rom source from another variable like Z2.
Will there be any differences between SONY's official and ported ROM from Z2? I guess no.
No hating, but I suggest we all turn up the heat with Z1 getting 6.0. I mean look at the Z, it received updates up until 5.1.1, so it doesn't seem logical that the Z1 being a much newer and higher spec phone compared to the Z gets up to 5.1.1 only. We should get the 6.0 update. As for the Z, IMHO it's update until 5.1.1 is already a welcome farewell to the grandfather beast. Because of the Z, Sony has come along way.
Z1 got 4 major updates, more than most other phones, why are you all complaining it is being ditched?

Mostly because the updates where just all a mess except 4.4.4
But my mayor concern is if the Z5 sales fail - Sony will for sure sell their Xperia department this time ...
I was really keen to get a Z5, but considering the awesome specs of the Lumina 950 and 950XL, updates as you are used to get them on Windows I probably give it a try. Continuum is just to good to be true. Would the 950 be Waterresistant, no doubt at all to move...
Some people fighting for latest firmware. And there's people like me who still staying with Kit kat for stability and stuff.

The core of the ROM is mainly from another device such as the Z2, but they're built against specific device configs. It's really not that complicated and it's something that Sony could easily support as it'd be no different to what they've already done with Lollipop.
The Nexus 5 is similar to the Z1 and that'll be receiving Marshmallow. Hell, the Z2 isn't all that different from the Z1 either. The only difficult part to deal with is the camera, but it's not like Sony can't get it done.
People should keep complaining and demanding the 6.0 update for the Z1 and then we might end up with an update, but if people sit quiet and don't even bother to ask about it then we'll be stuck on 5.1.1 unless you want to unlock your bootloader and install ROM's that will never be 100% stable.
With android pie set to be coming this month I thought I'd make a thread to discuss new features and any issue with the new update also to let people know when the update starts to roll out etc.
I have had my tab s3 since 2 months after it came out and am looking forward to the last os upgrade this tablet is set to get
Believe me, I postponed factory reset and cleaning junk from my tab s3, just because I am anxious to get the update. Hope it will be worth the wait.
Things I expect the most are dex mode, and night teme. Hope one of these two will be covered by update. Of course, I cannot wait for One UI aesthetics, as I like it, seems more minimalistic and simple compared to Samsung Experience... Checking for update daily

From late May:
https://www.sammobile.com/2019/05/29/android-pie-update-galaxy-tab-s3-and-galaxy-s8-active/
"Android Pie update for Galaxy Tab S3 and S8 Active may not be too far off
It appears Samsung is finally gearing up to release the Pie update for the Galaxy Tab S3 and Galaxy S8 Active soon. Multiple variants of these two devices have received Wi-Fi certification with Android Pie onboard, indicating the release may not be too far. Although not a rule, it usually takes a month or two after Wi-Fi certification for an update to hit the market."
The 1 or 2 month delay from certification to public release is way over!
intentional delay?

while August is current roadmap, i might be wrong , but i recall seeing July as release month in older Samsung roadmaps.
Being Tab S3 a former flagship tablet, i am quite unhappy with the delay. Its Samsung call, but i believe they have already updated to Pie many cheaper devices from same vintage.
the true reason of my post is just to vent my frustration, as i am also checking for the update every other day!

yeah, thanks ,i was aware of current roadmap
my point is twofold:
- i would bet than on older version of roadmap update was bound for July release! i didnt keep a copy of old roadmap so i just rely on my memory. i understand that the roadmaps are dynamic and not carved in stone
- Device Pie certification made me expect an earlier release.
unmet expectations=frustrations.
not a big one in my list of priorities though.

I only hope it (Pie) comes in order for improvements in LineageOS (hopefully Official) and related ROMs. I'm on 8.0 Tweaked (Sammy stock) and it's great but still nothing beats Stock Pie.
Down side to having Pie is that there is no official Xposed for Pie, EdXposed is a hit and miss, even more so the modules.

I doubt it the cpu in the tab s3 came out in early 2016 I don't think it has the power to run it as it is more heavy than android plus if they have it was mode they would discourage people from getting the new tab s6 or the tab s4 they want us to upgrade remember.
It came out in 2017, I don't see the reason it wouldn't have it
how long until non LTE release? T820?

Yes but the snapdragon 820 processor came out in 2016 (announced in 2015 ) so the cpu itself is quite dated that's what I meant. I would love it to get dex made just dont think it would run very smoothly even if it did get it
