Do replacement batteries damage the phone? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can a cheap replacement battery cause any harm to my galaxy s4? I dont care if the battery is inferior and doesnt perform well because if it doesn't I'll just get rid of it but what I'm worried about is if it will continue to affect my phone after I stop using it...

If it's a cheap replacement battery it can explode and destroy your phone

No, it won't. The battery will just deliver less power. The phone won't be damaged unless it is so bad it overheats or delivers extremely high voltages or something

Not once and not twice, cheap replacement batteries exploded and destroyed the phone.
To the OP, if you want to buy a replacement battery, look at the accessories section http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2165 and you'll see what battery you should buy :good:

I've had it for months. You will see the difference. It was stronger for the first week or 2 then lost some of its hold time but blows away my stock epic. I just ordered the anker 1800 from amazon for 11.99. Ill see how that one compares

I want to verify that we are talking about using a battery designed for an Epic touch in and Epic slider. I have an SPH D700 that I need the best battery I can find without the backside footprint of the phone changing. Otherwise I wont be able to dock in my car anymore
I use the mp3 feature of my phone, all day, every day (podcasts and audible). Within weeks of a new battery (stock) I barely make it til 2pm before having to charge. If I can't find a battery that can carry the load I'm going to just have two and a drop in charger, switching them out during my usually 10 hour long work days.
Thanks in advance everyone.

My headphone jack broke...

I always use my headphone jack but im very careful not to shove it in. All of a sudden the other day I tried to plug in my headphones and it wouldn't go all the way in! What happened? Can I still RMA my nexus or do i have to pay?

I have found my jack to be a pretty tight fit. Are you sure you are using enough pressure to insert the plug all the way? It is fairly substantial as 3.5mm jacks go.

LOL my thought exactly, nowdays people want unibody + SD + removable battery + unbreakable + scratch proof screen, water resistant, bomb resistant soon
Basically a phone that is indestructible not matter what and it must be below 130gram of course and have a big screen and battery.

you shouldn't have a problem downloading a 1 or 2gig movie within 30 minutes to an hr, it'll drain your battery half way regardless of kernel though.
If you're worried, you should stop pirating or Johnny Law will be on your rear. jkjk
To answer your question, just use it without connecting to the charger. Also, calibrating the battery is not necessary either.

So draining the battery regularly doesn't hurt it?
So in conclusion connecting the charger hurts the battery?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Keeping your battery at 100% all the time (letting your phone plugged into the charger) is literally the worst thing you could possibly do to the battery besides overheating it.
If you want to get the longest lifespan out of the battery, keep it between 40 and 80% and under 40°C (which is why the N4 starts throttling itself at 38°C)

Of course it will. It's a battery. They only have so many charge cycles. You can always buy another. With a little effort the battery can be swapped out.
