you shouldn't have a problem downloading a 1 or 2gig movie within 30 minutes to an hr, it'll drain your battery half way regardless of kernel though.
If you're worried, you should stop pirating or Johnny Law will be on your rear. jkjk
To answer your question, just use it without connecting to the charger. Also, calibrating the battery is not necessary either.

So draining the battery regularly doesn't hurt it?
So in conclusion connecting the charger hurts the battery?

Keeping your battery at 100% all the time (letting your phone plugged into the charger) is literally the worst thing you could possibly do to the battery besides overheating it.
If you want to get the longest lifespan out of the battery, keep it between 40 and 80% and under 40°C (which is why the N4 starts throttling itself at 38°C)

Of course it will. It's a battery. They only have so many charge cycles. You can always buy another. With a little effort the battery can be swapped out.
That's right anyway I just wanted to know the least way I can damage the battery while downloading. ..do u have a suggestion

I can't give you advice on how to make piracy less damaging to your phone. That's against the rules.

I just had my lawyer answer a ~1800 euro claim for some song that had magically found its way into my torrent downloading software. He charged me 208€.
Don't download pirated media..
He never said he was downloading copyrighted material... plenty of legal Ubuntu torrents available and last time I checked that's not piracy

Guys am talking about not damaging my battery not the phone

Anyway thanks all for your answers
So in conclusion
I should download until the battery drops to 40% and then recharge it
2- never leave the device connected all day

I let the thing drain until it turned off, then turned it back on and drain some more then charged it while it was off when I first got it.. should I get a new battery because right now I can barely last 8 hours with set cpu and all the stuff.. Ive done many calibration things but no change..

I think it's unlikely you ruined your battery but it couldn't hurt to swap it out at a Sprint store, I'm sure they would do that for you
Is it free?

Getting the battery to too low of a voltage can damage it, yes. It's unlikely you actually managed that though.

It's supposed to do that.
It doesn't charge up to 100% to preserve the battery's health, it's designed this way.
If you really want it up to 100%, you can always bump charge it.

Also to note. Bump charging can cause problems, so read that to decide whether or not you want to do it.
Oh ok thanks..so just leave it at is? It bugs me but I can live with it lol

Lately I've been having serious battery drain, 30% over 2 hours, couldn't find any explanation. Been reading about wakelocks so i took some pictures of battery stats.
Hopefully you guys can help me,

HSPA is draining your phone. Seriously. Whatever I do when I use mobile data on HSPA, battery drops like a rock.

A quick question, is it okay to use the Nexus 4 while charging? I was using it, and it charges a bit late but just want to ask if it doesn't harm the battery.

Not that I know of, any phone is okay to be used while charging

It depends on what you're doing. If you're playing game then it'll charge slowly. But if you're just texting and browsing then that shouldn't be a problem.

Of course it will slow the charge speed, but that's not dangerous.

Is any kind of battery training required for the new s4
And how to do so if yes
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda premium
Nope just use it. I like to wait till it's below 15% to charge it and always leave it charging till its full.
The main thing is not to let it discharge completely.
