I live in a 2G only area. On my Blackberry Bold 9700, I could force the phone to use AMR-Full Rate codec over 2G. Is this possible with the Nexus? Being able to greatly increased call quality for me.

Unfortunately, I don't think anyone has figured it out yet. -- Thought the settings might of been available via *#*#4636#*#* but it isn't.
Cheers,

How it work data speed & call from user to user around the coverage areas:
All the carriers has enhancements cell software to prioritized clients
What this means?
For example carriers has info of all cellphone units under first responders, if there is an incident in certaind and specific area of coverage, these user will have a priority to complete a call or uplink data versus the normal user
What does mean for a simple user as us?
Carriers are implementing this for the day to day use as follow, each client/account has a level of prioruty that depends on different aspects for example a commercial account is different from a family account, etc. An account with a basic plan is different from a Premiun add-on account and soo on.
So every cell has in real time what accounts are in that specific cell and prioritize depending on the level of the account
If you have the opportunity to have on hand a first responder unit cell do your self a test swaping SIMs and running tests
Or if you are under an big bucks executive commercial account do your own test swapping SIMs with a simple ones
So in other words our data/voice connections depends on these new tendencies "software enhancements cells"

Second that!
Did you ever hear about WPS (Wireless Priority Service) thats one example of the existing "enhancement cell software"
But is common on all the industries for example Airlines if you paid a premiun you can have a prioritized service, NO lines at the counter, add-on as VIP lounge, etc but at the end both customer fly on the same airplane
I am not trying to bash noone just to make a point that you can have two atrix or any other phone same model/maker side by side and run few test and you can easy noticed the difference between a normal account user and priority user in my case of test (first responder)
Main company for this software is located in TX so I am pretty sure is already been know for some people around the blog

I just received the below notice from Tmobile today and wanted to ask if anyone thinks that a cancellation would be honored if requested to not accept the new terms and not get charged an early termination fee?
Code:
Important Notice about Domestic Data Use While Off the T-Mobile Network
Beginning on April 5, 2012 there will be a limit on the amount of data that can be used while a T-Mobile customer's device is connected to another provider's network ("off network" or "domestic romaing"). Customers that are domestically roaming will receive free text message usage alerts for data. If the roaming data limit is exceeded for a Rate Plan, then data service will be suspended from off-network roaming until the start of the next bill cycle or a qualifying change is made to the Rate Plan. This will not impact: (1) voice usage, and (2) data usage on the T-Mobile network.
To determine domestic roaming areas, see the T-Mobile data coverage map by visiting www.T-Mobile.com/Coverage. The domestic roaming data allowance for each Rate Plan is outlined in the chart below. To use this chart, review the Current Rate Plan Full Speed Data Allotment column to identify the megabytes (MB) or gigabytes (GB) included in your Rate Plan, and then see the domestic roaming data usage limit that applies on the right. The megabytes of gigabytes for a Rate Plan can often be found by reviewing the Available Service section on page 1 of the bill (ex: Classic Simple 200MB Data Promo) or by dialing #WEB# send from your mobile phone.
Current Rate Plan Full Speed Data Allotment New Domestic Off Network (Romaing) Data Limit
1MB to 199MB 5MB
200MB to 1.99GB 10MB
2GB to 4.99GB 50MB
5GB to 9.99GB 100MB
10GB and above 200MB
Mobile Web Pay Per Use 10MB
Off-network data use may occur even when you are within the T-Mobile coverage area. See T-Mobile.com for directions on how to update device settings to avoid domestic roaming and for more information about this notice. Review Sections 3-5 of T-Mobile's Terms and Conditions available at T-Mobile.com for information on your rights (which may include early service cancellation) as a T-Mobile customer. Please retain a copy of this notice for your records. © 2012 T-Mobile USA, Inc.
Im really tired of tmobile service and would LOVE to be able to bail on them early without a penalty. It does say in their contract that:
Code:
WE CAN CHANGE ANY TERMS IN THE AGREEMENT AT ANY TIME. YOU MAY CANCEL THE AFFECTED LINE OF SERVICE WITHOUT AN EARLY TERMINATION FEE (if applicable) IF:
(A) WE CHANGE YOUR PRICING IN A MANNER THAT MATERIALLY INCREASES YOUR MONTHLY RECURRING CHARGE(S) (the amount you agreed to pay each month for voice, data and messaging, which does not include overage, pay-per-use or optional services (such as 411, or downloads), or taxes and fees);
(B) WE MATERIALLY DECREASE THE SERVICE ALLOTMENTS WE AGREED TO PROVIDE TO YOU FOR YOUR MONTHLY RECURRING CHARGE; OR
(C) WE MATERIALLY CHANGE A TERM IN THESE T&Cs OTHER THAN PRICING IN A MANNER THAT IS MATERIALLY ADVERSE TO YOU. WE WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH AT LEAST 30 DAYS' NOTICE OF ANY CHANGE WARRANTING CANCELLATION OF THE AFFECTED LINE OF SERVICE WITHOUT AN EARLY TERMINATION FEE (WHICH IS YOUR ONLY REMEDY), AND YOU MUST NOTIFY US WITHIN 14 DAYS AFTER YOU RECEIVE THE NOTICE, OR AS OTHERWISE PROVIDED IN THE NOTICE. IF YOU FAIL TO TERMINATE WITHIN THE RELEVANT TIMEFRAME, YOU ACCEPT THE CHANGES.
It looks like these changes only affect roaming charges for data use when off T-Mo's network. I doubt they will let you cancel without a fee based on these changes, but who knows, couldn't hurt to ask if you really want to switch.
Hypothetically You could just go to a roaming area and start downloading stuff like crazy till you go over then once it gets charged to your bill you then you throw that at em and leave

Which providers in Germany actually support the full HSPA+ 42?
I'm looking for a post-paid plan that will provide me with the highest or almost the highest data speed on the Nexus 4.
Roughly the first 500MB at that high speed would be sufficient. About 100 to 200 minutes of talk time and less than 50 text messages would be sufficient. Any recommendations for a particular plan? I need a post-paid plan as I would need port the number in from my current BASE (e-plus) provider, which offers horrible data service in my small city in Germany.
PS: I am expecting my new Nexus 4 to arrive as early as this Saturday
