Dan Rosenberg Has Unlocked AT&T Galaxy S4's Bootloader, I'm not update to with the s4 as I've always had Sony phones. so I thought it might be possible to unlock the bootloader of say o2 on a contract phone pay monthly. Wishful thinking I know but worth asking. Is the international s4 SIM free only Thanks

Hi,
If you are buying your phone from o2 UK,it will not have a locked bootloader.
You will be able to root it,flash ROMS to it,and even sim unlock it if you wish.

That's what I mean I'm not buying one SIM free right out but by paying monthly on a contract

Vodafone Samsung galaxy s4

Hi, could someone please confirm if the s4 purchased direct from Vodafone either through Vodafone store or online are unlocked?

Good question.
Can someone also say whether the S4 comes with any Vodafone (UK) bloatware or branding in the software?
No Vodafone branding anywhere on mine, I've not tried an alternative SIM yet so I can't confirm whether its locked or not.

Sorry, no spare SIM on a different network here. If no-one else can I can try when I get home tonight.

Thanks... One more confirmation would be give me more confidence prior to purchasing one....

I believe Vodafone don't SIMlock any phones other than iphones and possibly Blackberrys for contract sales, PAYG I think they still do, but this information should be on their website. They'll probably start shipping the S4 with their own custom ROMs once the initial launch flurry is out of the way, it looks like they got caught out with demand so skipped the custom branding for the first batch, but I bet they'll put it on eventually.

Once your phone is paid off they will unlock it if you're using EIP...if you purchased full price and have had your account over 40 days they will unlock it...don't see the need for a petition lol
Do these things really help?

They change their policy in April 2013. They are giving people that purchased at full price a headache to unlock their phones...

Nope. But it makes people feel better and that seems to be what matters most...

As long as you bought the phone outright you can unlock it. I just sim unlocked my at&t varient.
Online sim unlocking services...
I don't get it. I unlocked my SIM by paying some guy (I forgot his sellers is name) on EBay $3.50
Why is there a need for a petition?

At the moment, in the USA, sim unlocking by anyone except the carrier is technically illegal. The exemption was removed. I think they are working on taking care of that though. On that same note T-Mobile should let you sim unlock if you ask. Remember you can always ask for a supervisor.

There already was a petition on the whitehouse site to remove that bit and they responded to it.

[Q] Any confirmation on T-Mobile bootloader? Really Unlocked?

Almost Exactly the same post as the AT&T bootloader...
I haven't seen any hard evidence of an unlocked bootloader on T-Mobile's Note3. I know its probably going to happen, just looking for some confirmation.

New possible purchase

Ok guys. I have an s4. Am in UK and an thinking of getting a note 3 on tesco mobile. How easy is it to unlock so I can use my 3 network sim. It was simple on s4. Same deal on note 3?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Simplest and easiest way is to get an unlock code either from the network provider you are with or as you are on three network. ... They are unlocking for free. There is a thread on that. .. check it out.
You ring up three from your three sim option 3,3,2,1 (something like that) and give them your imei number and within 7 days they will send you the unlock code.
Worked for me on a vodafone locked phone

well its a tesco mobile note 3 - and I want to use my three micro sim card
was wondering if the app 'region lock away' would do the trick?
dont want to sign up for a contract if I cant unlock it myself
Like I said you can still get it unlocked by three. I got my Vodafone locked phone unlocked by three.

Dont pay, theres a free way to unlock your phone to other networks ...
its on XDA somewhere !! ( i cant remember the name of it currently, but ill update you once I remember )
surely i would need to speak to tesco mobile if its locked to their network? not three?
or am i being stupid??
really need to get this sorted asap - gotta decide in about 30 mins if i am getting this phone
i like the s4 which i have, but the note 3 looks awesome....lol
I've said it to you twice. My phone was locked top Vodafone and I have the imei to three and they gave me the unlock code which worked and now my phone is unlocked

Buy the phone. ... You don't even have to open the box. ... The imei number is on the box (I would open just to make sure of everything) give the a call and if you don't get a code. ... Give the phone back or ask tesco to unlock or use one of these websites to get the code

They aren't doing it to be nice, it makes good business sense to make your phone accept a 3 sim so they can start taking money from you.
You can also get a Note3 unlocked for £7 in about 1hr on eBay
After all that. The phone was factory unlocked! Got it from carphone warehouse. £27 contract. Free handset. Working fine on my 3 sim. Thanks for your help guys!

Yeah CPW and P4U sell unlocked handsets with their contracts as they get them in direct rather than via a carrier.

would a sim free z2 be guaranteed to be bootloader unlocked

I have a z2 from Vodafone which is locked shut. But my catalogue have just started selling the z2 for £579.00 and 12 months interest free which is cheaper than direct from sony. It has the option to come without a sim so must be sim locked but would that mean boot loader unlocked or not necessarily. Tempted to get it and maybe sell this or get back and have both colours lol
I really hope if phone is factory sim unlocked same time bootloader unlocking status will show = YES
Will see middle of next week when I courier will ring to my doorbell
Yes, if the phone is network unlocked it will have a unlockable bootloader

Three in the UK are still doing a great deal. Around £469 - I've just picked one up, bootloader unlockable and also sim unlocked too!
