would a sim free z2 be guaranteed to be bootloader unlocked - Xperia Z2 General

I have a z2 from Vodafone which is locked shut. But my catalogue have just started selling the z2 for £579.00 and 12 months interest free which is cheaper than direct from sony. It has the option to come without a sim so must be sim locked but would that mean boot loader unlocked or not necessarily. Tempted to get it and maybe sell this or get back and have both colours lol

I really hope if phone is factory sim unlocked same time bootloader unlocking status will show = YES
Will see middle of next week when I courier will ring to my doorbell

Yes, if the phone is network unlocked it will have a unlockable bootloader

Three in the UK are still doing a great deal. Around £469 - I've just picked one up, bootloader unlockable and also sim unlocked too!

Dan Rosenberg Has Unlocked AT&T Galaxy S4's Bootloader, I'm not update to with the s4 as I've always had Sony phones. so I thought it might be possible to unlock the bootloader of say o2 on a contract phone pay monthly. Wishful thinking I know but worth asking. Is the international s4 SIM free only Thanks

Hi,
If you are buying your phone from o2 UK,it will not have a locked bootloader.
You will be able to root it,flash ROMS to it,and even sim unlock it if you wish.
That's what I mean I'm not buying one SIM free right out but by paying monthly on a contract

Anyone manage to carrier unlock yet?

I'll be getting a Note 3 shortly through my wife's upgrade but she is on a different network to me so I'll need to unlock the sim.
Anyone managed to unlock the UK /European version yet?

All the threads have been going on about the region lock, not SIM lock. And most people that have the device right now, have bought it out right and it comes SIM free, so the phones aren't locked in the first place. Can't you just get the unlock code from the carrier?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk 4
I'm aware the threads have been about region lock. Which is why I opened this thread... Cause it's related to carrier unlock..
The networks here are not too keen on giving out unlock codes until the contract is expired.. Ie phone paid for. I'm not even sure if they do it at all.

Z2 Root Update

Good Evening Folks
Sad news from the Camp. Ive also been given a Z2 locked with both BL and SIM.
Just to keep you posted, 360Root, Kingo Root & Vroot dont work.
I think Sony may have just made this thing Impenetrable
I'm not sure why they would lock it down so much. I'm a bit of an HTC fan boy, but the Z2 specs bettered the M8. I took a chance with Sony for a change because of this.
Reading through this forum has made me change my mind though, yes the phone is awesome, but I want an android phone so I can mod it how I wish. I can't own a phone on a 2yr contract without root!
Vodafone can have the Z2 back at the weekend and I'll have another look at the M8 or consider the S5

So Z2 does not have the possibilty of root? Any version?
At the moment only the ones with unlockable bootloaders can b rooted

I have the M8 so im not exactly jumping to change. Im going to keep my phone for now, the Z2 will remain and ill get it unlocked etc, but all i need is root to be honest
Wonder if you can flash a rooted stock firmware ^__^

I've just been offered a fantastic upgrade deal on the z2, via Phones4u in the UK. The issue with root and bootloaders has me kinda worried. I too don't want to be stuck with a phone I can't root & flash. If I got a z2 with an unlockable bootloader, does this mean I can root and flash whatever I want? Roms & kernels etc?
As far as I know the z2 cannot yet be returned to stock for warranty issues either.
Z2 or wait for g3. Hmmm I need to decide

Quite sure they aren't.
Locked bootloaders = Phones bought on contract
The full price upfront ones are unlockable, in fact the process has been explained on the Sony developer site itself.

The problem is we can't backup the TA partition without root...
I'll soon have my Z2 and worried about this, I don't want to unlock the bootloader before I backup the TA partition but I need root also...
An exploit will be found when enough developers got this phone

I went to London yesterday and today and stayed over, and this phone is beautiful, espec... the CAMERA!
I want root, however i can sacrifice on the locked bootloader
I have the M8 so i can flash and mod to my hearts content!! I also have my unlock code ready to go just need a non Voda SIM.
I wonder if.... Unlocking the SIM suddenly triggers a BL unlock ^__^ (Kidding, This wouldnt happen in a million years)
I would also like to add, id be happy to test any root exploits!!
From what I know so far there is no way to root without voiding your warranty. By unlocking boot loader is the only way to use to backup. However unlocking the boot loader makes you lose the drm which you need for warranty service. So if you are not afraid to lose warranty and drm, you can go over to Sony website and it gives you a step by step guide to unlock the boot loader.

Think youve missed the point of the thread... We know that we CANT unlock the bootloader... We WANT to, but we cant root until someone finds an exploit
Bumping a bit.
I have a simlock free device, but i guess i will still lose the DRM-keys if i unlock, right?
If so.. heard anything new, if anyone have found an working exploit?
I will return my phone if this can't be fixed asap. =(

Just in case you were wondering, Three UK ship the Z2 with SIM unlock. I also typed in *#*#service#*#* and guess what?
Bootloader Unlock Allowed: YES
This is a two year contract on the one plan from Three UK. The phone arrived today.

Which model to buy in the UK

Hi there..
I'm looking on eBay to buy this device
I want to have the option to open Botloadr and make ROOT.
What should I ask before?
Most of the devices purchased on eBay are under contract cellular company.

Can't you just phone up Vodafone and request the phone to be unlocked?
I did this 2 years ago when I received my HTC One X from O2, they sent me the unlock instructions and codes all free of charge (and this was the day after I received my phone).
Yes, if you ring them and ask for it to be unlocked they will do it free, payg is normally charged but in contract providers unlock for free. O2 even have a website to request the simlock removal.
