Z2 Root Update - Xperia Z2 General

Good Evening Folks
Sad news from the Camp. Ive also been given a Z2 locked with both BL and SIM.
Just to keep you posted, 360Root, Kingo Root & Vroot dont work.
I think Sony may have just made this thing Impenetrable

I'm not sure why they would lock it down so much. I'm a bit of an HTC fan boy, but the Z2 specs bettered the M8. I took a chance with Sony for a change because of this.
Reading through this forum has made me change my mind though, yes the phone is awesome, but I want an android phone so I can mod it how I wish. I can't own a phone on a 2yr contract without root!
Vodafone can have the Z2 back at the weekend and I'll have another look at the M8 or consider the S5

So Z2 does not have the possibilty of root? Any version?

At the moment only the ones with unlockable bootloaders can b rooted

I have the M8 so im not exactly jumping to change. Im going to keep my phone for now, the Z2 will remain and ill get it unlocked etc, but all i need is root to be honest
Wonder if you can flash a rooted stock firmware ^__^

I've just been offered a fantastic upgrade deal on the z2, via Phones4u in the UK. The issue with root and bootloaders has me kinda worried. I too don't want to be stuck with a phone I can't root & flash. If I got a z2 with an unlockable bootloader, does this mean I can root and flash whatever I want? Roms & kernels etc?
As far as I know the z2 cannot yet be returned to stock for warranty issues either.
Z2 or wait for g3. Hmmm I need to decide

Quite sure they aren't.
Locked bootloaders = Phones bought on contract
The full price upfront ones are unlockable, in fact the process has been explained on the Sony developer site itself.

The problem is we can't backup the TA partition without root...
I'll soon have my Z2 and worried about this, I don't want to unlock the bootloader before I backup the TA partition but I need root also...

An exploit will be found when enough developers got this phone

I went to London yesterday and today and stayed over, and this phone is beautiful, espec... the CAMERA!
I want root, however i can sacrifice on the locked bootloader
I have the M8 so i can flash and mod to my hearts content!! I also have my unlock code ready to go just need a non Voda SIM.
I wonder if.... Unlocking the SIM suddenly triggers a BL unlock ^__^ (Kidding, This wouldnt happen in a million years)

I would also like to add, id be happy to test any root exploits!!

From what I know so far there is no way to root without voiding your warranty. By unlocking boot loader is the only way to use to backup. However unlocking the boot loader makes you lose the drm which you need for warranty service. So if you are not afraid to lose warranty and drm, you can go over to Sony website and it gives you a step by step guide to unlock the boot loader.

Think youve missed the point of the thread... We know that we CANT unlock the bootloader... We WANT to, but we cant root until someone finds an exploit

Bumping a bit.
I have a simlock free device, but i guess i will still lose the DRM-keys if i unlock, right?
If so.. heard anything new, if anyone have found an working exploit?
I will return my phone if this can't be fixed asap. =(

Road back to .91 from .141

Just creating a post in general to showcase my steps in an effort to get back to an unlockable boot loader from the .141 crap moto placed on my phone upon sending it in for repair.
Lucky for me, I was still under warranty so I sent it and and I am tracking it now... For the comment section I told them that I did not appreciate them upgraded me to a really bad version (.141) that made my phone really slow and unstable, and of course caused my once unlocked bootloader to no longer be unlocked.
Actually posting this because I'm frustrated and I hope that it will work so that way if anyone else is under contract or warranty can try and *hopefully* get the same results.
I will update as soon as anything happens.

Any unlock news for latest Verizon update?

I updated my RAZR m to the latest release from Verizon, and since I had not unlocked my bootloader yet, I know I cannot unlock it at the moment. Even if I rsd to the original 4.1.2 I still will be unable to unlock, correct?
Is there any work being done on a new unlock? I'm relatively happy with stock for now, but once cm10.x is more stable, and motors stops updating the RAZR m, I'd like to be able to flash something cool.
Thanks,

Yeah, here's your news; the new update blocked the ability to unlock. You can't unlock, even if you downgrade, but you can still root. The unlock exploit came out in April and people were told to do it, before it was locked up. Dan also said he probably won't ever run another exploit. You can root and use SafeStrap to run older SS compatible ROMs. You're SOL for the AOSP stuff, though. Don't say you weren't warned.

If your on Verizon and got the phone through Verizon do what I did before the time runs out... call them request a replacement device go through all the trouble shooting for your "issue"( I said the ear piece speaker intermittently goes out, yet works on speakerphone thus indicating its hardware related) after trouble shooting and problems still occur you get the green light for a replacement. request that they make a note to the warehouse to send you one without the update (I said because the new update caused data drops that didn't happen prior to update)... I hated having to give up my brand new device for a "like new" one but its better then having a locked device... the CSR in the chat said all devices in the warehouse will be updated 2-3 weeks after the update push so... act fast you may still have time left... if you get one with the update call them tell them your phone is working fine now and send the replacement back... or say something like the replacement is defective and again request a note to the warehouse... where there's a will there's a way....good luck

Unlockable Bootloader?

In a conversation with a verizon salesman he told me this http://imgur.com/WlmNyl3
he probably doesn't know what you mean. he probably means like global unlocked.
the past few samsung devices have locked bootloaders, and verizon doesn't go around that. that, plus KNOX means the GS5 WILL have a locked bootloader, and we'll have to do some loki stuff to get around it like with the GS4/Note 3 etc
Knox has nothing to do with a locked bootloader.

That is also a Nexus phone.
The catch being Samsung and Verizon want enterprise adoption of the device, so like the S4, it will very likely be locked by same design.
No such concern with the Nexus.

That's not the point Knox is used for those secure businesses. It any way does it mean with having Knox means the bootloader is gna be locked. A bootloader can be unlocked with Knox still present but there is the Knox warranty that you would want to avoid of course.

I appreciate you sharing, but answers from a Verizon sales rep are about as meaningful as those from rolling a magic 8 ball. They very rarely have even the slightest clue as to what you are talking about. Actually since you have made the effort to visit this forum, chances are you already know more than they do.
I fully expect the VZ bootloader to come locked up tight. Hopefully we can get it unlocked as fast as the M8 did. I could care less about Knox or my warranty.

Hoping and wishing ain't going to make it happen - look no further than the VZN S4 / Note 3. If not for the loki exploit on the initial S4 release, AOSP Roms would be unavailable. Check out the Original Android Development section on the VZN Note 3.....that is most likely the future of the S5. Be happy with TW or get a Dev Edition - probably your only options.

Bootloader WIP
On the alliance rom page for the retail gs5, i saw a reply on a WIP bootloader. Idk if im the only one who saw this or some****, but I am extremely phyiched for it, and even that there is "progress" gives me some hope. CANT WAIT!!!

Any progress on bootloader?

Like the title states, I was wondering if there is any progress on unlocking the bootloader. I am okay with the way things are, but I would love to run CM11. I appreciate all the work devs do around here. I am just curious to know if anyone is still working on the bootloader, and if there is any progress.
nope. no update that is.. not sure if anyone is working on it behind the scenes with newer devices out there
Sole reason I will never buy a Samsung device on Verizon ever again.

Sunshine worked on the Ultra/Maxx up to 4.4.3 but 4.4.4 is locked down tight, that includes the Turbo and Moto X 2014 as well. The options moving forward are HTC, LG (still able to "unlock" by downgrading firmware) or dropping the $$$ on a dev edition Samsung or the N6.

This doesn't mean the bootloaders are unlocked. Please read the article carefully.
It clearly states, "You could find unlocked units before, but now several retailers are selling carrier-free S7 units."
All this means is that "The phones will work on AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint and US Cellular."
Again, this is not the same as having an unlocked bootloader. Not even close.
However someone seems to have stumbled upon an engineering bootloader, so this thread may not be a fallacy for much longer!

It works flawlessly. The only issue is the lag and WiFi password after the initial root. To fix the lag after you've just rooted you download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bigeyes0x0.trickstermod and set the governor to interactive in the general menu and in the settings tab check kernal settings on set on boot. Then finally to fix WiFi you download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.nathan.jf.build.prop.editor and find "ro.securestorage.support" click on it and set it to false, then *make sure you the hit check button* restart the phone and your good.
(Also to specify the issue with the WiFi passwords is that it doesn't save after a reboot. Meaning that you must re-enter the password after every reboot.)
