Hi,
Look HERE
Some battery saving tips.
Congrats on your S4, although I have to ask, why did you buy it?
Battery life isn't much of an issue for me, in the end it doesn't really matter since you can easily swap the battery out for a spare one. I usually carry my charger with me when I go to work and stuff, I just try not to think about the battery life too much. In the end, there isn't a single phone on the market with specs like these that has awesome battery life. Sometimes I see people with the latest phone, brightness all the way down, stuff like GPS/Wifi/etc constantly off... Why would you buy a state of the art smartphone when you're only using half of the potential? Underclocking is also something I wouldn't do, I just don't see the point of doing it. If you wanted a phone with good battery life and a slower CPU, you should've bought another phone imo.
When it comes to rooting, just ask yourself: Do you have a need for rooting your phone? Personally I always root my phone because I want to be the administrator, not the guest. I like that I can have apps do certain things for me which wouldn't be possible otherwise (like blocking ads or being able to protect my phone with Cerberus, etc). So if you don't really need it, let it be. If you want to take control, root it.

why i bought it? because my s2 bricked itself ( shut down and i couldnt get into cwm or download mode and the jig wasnt a help too ^^ ) so I decided to get a new phone.... the htc one was my first choice but it wasnt avaiable in austria till june... JUNE!!!!! so I bought the galaxy s4 which i DO NOT regret at all
i dont need all those features like airview and those sensors ^^ i also like the look of the stock android roms ( running nova prime launcher atm) and if rooting and flashing a new rom and kernel would bring more juice into my day it would be even greater
I over and underclocked before so I kinda know what I am doing .... BUT should i wait will the official google s4 is out and there are custom roms made of that?
Well if you're not sure, waiting for the nexus version could be worth it. I just hope we can flash that rom to the i9505, but we won't know for sure until it's here.

I've had the Note 2 now since the release in the UK and all I can say is perfection! The barrery life is the best I have ever had! Normally end day at work still on 80-90% (My One X would be dead!)
It is smooth as silk everything works as it should! Its got the latest software already on there...
Im normally the first to root and custom rom and get rid of everything to keep pure google..but with this I dont even feel like putting on a custom rom simply worried that it may ruin it!??? Anyone else keeping away from modding their device or is it just me??
Yep. Dont see the need so far.

I can understand you, but I rooted the fcuk out of it as soon as I got it! Too many hexcellent apps out there that demand root
Have to agree.
I've not even bothered rooting it yet, which I'd normally do on day 1, and I'm now on day 8.
I will still root at some point though, mostly for the root only apps though.
Note 2 - Android how it should be done!
Regards,
Dave

Pure perfection does not exist but like most here I guess there is general concensus that this is truly an amazing device we got. Though to myself how boring something that works as good as that. Anyway I use omega and also perseus kernel lovely if you want to try OC an its limit though its fast enough or even beter under volting and this furthermore seems to show how great the HW is.
Things I just dont like is the high 320 dpi funny on tab 7.7 it was too low now here to big for my taste....so waiting with hope to see changes there dreaming about paranoid with full pen support.....

I haven't modified or put any custom ROM every in my life and won't do it on my Note II as well.
The simpler it is, the better it is.

+1 I agree fully, this is the best out of the box Samsung device i ever had. Do not feel the need to root at all, let alone flash a custom rom wich atm adds nothing to what we allready have. Kudoz to Sammy in this case
yep agree, no need for a Custom Rom on this. It has everything you need.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
For the moment I don't think root is necessary (i can live with titanium apps not being restored, can be manually done but without its data).
I think I will root only if development breaks through the split screen multitasking to add more apps into it.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
I rooted it but after using a couple different roms I don't see any need for them. I really only wanted root to be able to remove anything I really didn't need and to be able to use any apps that require root. I might eventually use a custom kernel but that's pretty much it.
I have no desire to root my Note 2 at this time as it does everything I want from it and does so seamlessly.
Once I have my T-Mobile provided Note 2 I may well keep the international/unlocked version to toy with new ROM's and root apps. Selling this unit OTOH puts $$ back in my pocket. To be decided later. My daily carry Note 2 will remain factory stock unless a firmware update reduces its versatility or usability.
I will get my Note2 later today and the first thing i will do is root the baby. If it was only for Adfree Android and some other indispensable applications.
I will see about aftermarket ROM's later. It will depend on the usability. And if I hear you guys talking about I think that won't happen for a while.
Rooted 15 minutes after I opened the box. I needed to transfer data from my s3
That's the only thing that is badly needed to this android. Anything else can be avoided even from a flash addict like me. ( a flash my nexus 7 twice a day to keep me sane )
There are some useful mods like skip track , call recording etc. I am with wanam 1.1 and everything looks great.
Rom is a choice for note 2 but root is necessity for android.
Come on, you are in xda , you hold an android device , chainfire already gave root and you want to stay unrooted?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
I have bricked my first Note because of flashing addiction first and because of trying to get rid of some of its shortcomings like slow Contact app scrolling etc.now that the new one adressed all of the issues I was complaining from I didnt even see a need for a root so far, the stock ROM seems to be sufficient enogh.
I root all my devices, usually for AdAway, hate ads when browsing. Titanium backup pro as well for back ups. Usually custom roms and kernels bring user fixes to shortcomings in OEM software.

Yea this phone is really amazing. My only gripe atm is no polaris office which I was sorta expecting. Hopefully soon they will release it. But having to switch from S3 to Note2 I am really satisfied.
With s3 i had to custom rom it on the first day. With this I dont mind the bloat, cause i still have tons of free memory.

I rooted mainly to swap ext sd with int sd so I can install more stuff
also i cant live without the 15toggle & titanium
Its still as smooth & stable with root. I think samsung has outdone itself this time. This product is just perfect.
The battery life is awsome. it feels like its twice better then Note1.
I gave my wife my SGS III yesterday and got the Note II. I am loving it, right off the bat it does seem smoother than the S3. With that said, I immediately rooted it and installed Omega. Not so much because it needed it, more because I'm pretty much obsessed with the removal of bloatware and apps that I don't use.

I haven't rooted mine. I was also a ROM addict on the S I and S II.
But with this TW build I don't really see a need yet. It's really good. I know a lot of people prefer the stock experience, but I personally like many of Samsungs additions.
And yeah, battery life is amazing. Not having to worry about battery life at all is probably the greatest feature of this phone.
Hi Folks,
I am almost got fed up reading battery saving tips for android, turn off all features, add bulky battery etc. You can see thousands of forums, with the same same old tips like this, if the features has to be turned off, then why an S4, Nokia classic phone was fine right?
Just one Query, does any one know how to implement iOS like Power/Application management in Android/Galaxy S4 ? The iOS motto is like, if you are using device, it would consume battery , otherwise no. Just wanted something like this which can save battery, any idea ?
Cheers,
Kirankumar.

Hi,
I did try Greenify, and its like everytime the apps needs to be manually force stopped after use, thats a bit wierd, and to take the full advantage, the phone needs to be rooted. As rooting voids the warranty, it wont be a good idea.
Cheers,
KiK
So I assume you have i9500 version with no good custom roms.
Without customs roms you cant do much.

In android , we have numerous background processes which obviously drains the battery. If you can reduce these processes then u would have a better battery backup. Background processes of iOS n Android are completely different so dont compare it. Rooting is the best way to gain control of your device.

Two batteries may result into caliberation issues. Its better to buy a power pack instead of extra battery.

Ya, I know, and about Custom rom , I am no longer interested at the moment, got to play enough with my Galaxy S+ and Custom ROM, so advantage and disadvantages are very much aware now . With my S4, I dont want to root it or flash Custom ROMs, I was trying to find a way without affecting the official ROM. Trying some workaround, shall let you knw if it works.

Hi Smith,
Thanks for the suggestion, however, I wouldn't recommend that option when you have to do Opening , change battery and closing the back cover on a daily basis, that doesn't look good isn't it? fine, the other option, adding a double capacity battery, aaaah., Considering the shame that brings for you , when someone says, what the heck you're doing with this soap box ( that much bulky it is) , you would rather wish let the phone be switched off better. ,
Okey fine, I have done a work around , which is not perfect as iOS, but some what near.
What I did was, thanks to the kitkat update, which allows you to turn off all most all of the services (including google services) and all the samsung service (most of them), I have turned off all the Samsung service, which I felt not needed (may be S planner and S memo , may used, keep those), and turned off all the unwanted google services, ( games, newstand, play music) ... I did turn off, so anytime it can be turned off, so that fine.
Now, the result! Initial analysis found to be good, I am now getting 10+ hrs, where as before it was 6hrs, (That too on Wifi/3G, without turning off the extra features, air view and other smart features)
No Crashing, No Lag, and about all the main thing I wanted, it drains a very little when it sleeps, almost like iOS now ( yes, iOS drains almost nothing during sleep ) .
100 to 96% after 8hrs during sleep, its good I would say.
Still I could do nothing about SAMOLED Screen and Voice call, which found to be the main battery eater.
Let's see if something new comes to save in Android 4.5 /or 5, which ever the upcoming version is.
Cheers,
KiK
What apps is out there to enhance the speed and battery life of the device.....and I mean REAL enhancement not the likes of battery doctor and this ****ty apps

I try to answer every question ... first i think u dont need more speed for the device... its fast .. thats no reason for root in this case...
In terms of battery life however you could root to debloat all uneccecary apps like nox or samsung watch on which are constantly running in the background... In my case I dont root for fancy stuff like custom roms.... I like stock and add stuff to it like you would call enhancements...
Titanium backup is great to backup every app... even system apps.... it backs up all even if the app doesnt allow it ... and you can freeze or unistall the whole bloatware with it... so your device is clean and you can disable any rouge app draining battery... sure you can also change cpu frequency with programs like set cpu.. but as I said device is fast ... if you want save battery turn power save on ... if you try underclockibg further you will probably run into lags... however you can manage cpu frequenzys with tasker .. so u can set frequenzcys for each app individually... but i think its not worth the trouble.. power save mode is enough... so for the next update you probably wont get it on the normal way... need to flash it manually ... probably ... im not sure yet how knox security handles that.... for types of root there are different methods... cf autoroot seems to be the easiest one ... im not sure though if it would work for your device since u have 601 model... if you plan on root make sure your model is supported for the method u choose... last words there is alot of stuff you can add with root...most of it is not worth rooting for... like changing boot animations or icon of your battery .... but if you want full acces or want to get custom roms... some of them save more battery yes... but you kinda loose your stock experience with it.... you can modify your stock experience with the xposed installer while keeping all stuff you like... dobt expect wonders when it comes to performance and battery life when it comes to custom roms ... thats all hope icould help ... wrote with a note 2014 edition which is not rooted?... yet

Just one more thing, you void the warranty if you root ( at least with the current root options that tripp the security knox fuse, for the time being it's irreversible )
so that might be a small issue to consider
with some luck a knox-safe root solution might pop up...soon...maybe...

np bro ... give it some time ... maybe some risk free root method like framaroot shows up ...
until then enjoy ur fast device ... I overclocked my old note 10.1 .. but it didnt do much ... about 5-10 & more speed ... but thats not noticable in overall performance.... not worth rooting for cpu stuff... you can get some stuff to work with root .. the question is do you need that ...
I give u a few examples which come to mind...
recording footage of your device ... for lets plays or stuff
- advanced features for tracking apps ... ahaha i have some stuff installed on my dads device ... enough said
-cpu stuff .. as I said not worth so much
- change behaviour of buttons / customize your navigation and status bar ...
- free some apps of ads
-there are some neet hacking ähm security test apps
-change resolution / dpi
-customize in general
I find it most useful for cleaning up samsung bloatware & backup my app data ...
there is tons of small features you can get with root ... but most of it you can get without root too...
if you are bored and your warranty is void sicne 2 years passed ... you should root ... just for the sake of it ...

It's impossible to root without tripping Knox. It's s an actual fuse that burns out. Once this is fine, you'd have to physically replace the mother board

np keep asking ... what I do for battery saving is turning power save mode on , using low brightness and let my wifi go on and off automatically ,
I also did some underclocking on my nexus 7 / note 10.1 old model ... but it always comes with increase of lag .... which sucks ... thats why I love power savign on samsung devices .... this underclocks to the excact right level which saves energy but doenst hinder performance..... you dont need more than that.... well for non samsung devices which dont have power save ... this might be useful ... samsung does it right without root though... well ofc and before you let your device go on standby .. close all apps with recent apps manager... but thats basic stuff ...
these battery saver apps are useful for turn on / off wifi automatically .. or whatever connection u use
I use juice defender on my older devices which have jellybean ... because it has a feature to change color temperature at night .... its very pleasing for the eyes it also saves extra battery on amoled screens i could explain why but that would take too long... I also recommend f.lux which is the original programm on pc ....
for my note 2014 im using "IC commander" which is basicly the same as juice defender without the color temperature feature.... [turns wifi on after I unlock at lockscreen] ofc you can do turn wifi on / off yourself ... but i would hate pushing that button all the time ... the cool thing is when you have a case with magnet lock ... you just need to close the case and your screen goes off ... and if you have that app wifi goes off too^^ .. no more buttons to press ...
check out my youtube channel its not about tech stuff but I have 1 video of my both old galaxy note devices in their cases xD
its actually about anime & game movies ... maybe its to your liking

np keep asking ... what I do for battery saving is turning power save mode on , using low brightness and let my wifi go on and off automatically ,
I also did some underclocking on my nexus 7 / note 10.1 old model ... but it always comes with increase of lag .... which sucks ... thats why I love power savign on samsung devices .... this underclocks to the excact right level which saves energy but doenst hinder performance..... you dont need more than that.... well for non samsung devices which dont have power save ... this might be useful ... samsung does it right without root though... well ofc and before you let your device go on standby .. close all apps with recent apps manager... but thats basic stuff ...
these battery saver apps are useful for turn on / off wifi automatically .. or whatever connection u use
I use juice defender on my older devices which have jellybean ... because it has a feature to change color temperature at night .... its very pleasing for the eyes it also saves extra battery on amoled screens i could explain why but that would take too long... I also recommend f.lux which is the original programm on pc ....

just switched because there are no more updates since 2012 or so ... no support for that app anymore ... ic commander is more up to date ... juicy defender is going crazy on kitkat having wakelocks ands stuff draining battery ... but thats mostly because kitkat update which change so much stuff in the system ... so juice defender doesnt work properly ... it had more than 1 hour wakelocks on the new note 10.1 ... on my old it had only 5-10 min wich is normal ... since it handles wifi.... so yea thats why i dropped it on my new note

Hi there mates, Id like to ask You an advice. Im going to buy a new phone today and I was all in samsungs hype and wanted Galaxy S4 as the price went down since S5 is out. Than I started to read XDA S4 threads and discover this crapy Knox thing. As rooting my device is main priority for me, so I can use my device for a specific tasks only rooted apps provide and want to be able to modify the ROMs, with Knox S4 seems to be very limited for this. I really dont care about voiding warranty, but Knox seems to be causeing a lot of faults anyway and will be improved in next android updates with Knox 2.0. So S4 is no go for me. Than I started looking for other brands and ended up with LG G2. The price is to the cent Same as S4. Hardware seems to me bit better. I really like display of G2 and the overall look, compare to cheap plastics used with S4. Also like buttons on the Back. I tried to read a lot and watched some vids of G2 on youtube, but still have few uestions.
1. Im for 32 Gb G2, haveing no slot for aditional memory Id like to know if G2 can do USB OTG, and if so can I also use classic big PC HDD?
2. Can i get rid of navbar? as Im useing IMD Gestures I Dont want navbar to take display space.
3. Rooting G2 seems to be not difficult and problematic with android 4.2.2 on it, the version i want to buy is 4.2.2.
Is that right?
4. As I love my music and have Senheiser ears, Id like to know how It sounds?
5. As comming from samsungs android and seen others and also seen lg one, I really do love its look and clearnes and easy handling. Lgs android seems to have very childish/amateurish look and messy to orient myself in it. Question is are there ROMs or MODs that can change the look and feel a bit closer to samsungs android?
6. Battery seems to be all for G2 am I right? Whatabout gaming, heard it takes a lot of battery?
7. Whatabout the display, any disadvantages?
8. How solid is it Made, can it be easily broken?
9. Anything Else I soud know? Reasons why to buy or look for any other device?
10. Whatabout updating and rooting on Kitkat?
Thanks in advance to all, for help.
Greetings
Well i make it Step by Step i have th G2 32 GB and use it for Everything
1.Yes the G2 Supports Usb OTG and you can use Most of the Usb Sticks and also Hdd's (Ofcourse need the Big Externals theyre Own Powersource and the 2,5" ones maybe an Additional Powered Usb Hub since the G2's Usb Port might not deliver enough Power)
2.Ofcourse but i think thats only possible if you root the Phone and Install the Xposed Framweork + G2tweakbox
3.The Rooting process is indeed Pretty Easy just Follow the Nice Tutorials you can Find in the G2' Forums And 4.2.2 is okay and the 4.4.2 Update is already out too.
4.The Audio Quality is Amazing especially if you give the Audiochip the Support of the Viper 4 Android app
5.There is already a Rom Who gives a Samsung S5 Look but i think its onl for the D802 G2 Variant but there are enough Themes and Mods available to Customize it the Way you like.
6.On Android 4.2.2 the battery Life is Better than on 4.4.2 (But that depends on the usage ofcourse) On Custom Roms with the Right kernel and settings the G2's Performance Range varies but you will figure that out.
7.No Disadvantages the Display is Awesome Colors are not too Saturated (Like on many Oled/Amoled Displays)
8.Thats a thing wich made me Worry a bit,the Backside seems very Scratch Sensitive and without a Case or Bumper it can Slip out of the hand...Atleast thats how it feels like.
9.Ofcourse thats up to you and what you prefer, The G2 doesnt has a Removable battery,No Hardware Homebutton and the Buttons on the Back of the Phone are strange (My opinion) And ofcourse the lack of a Micro-Sd Card slot
10.If you Buy the phone just Update it Via the Update Section in the Settings to get KK directly from LG then you can Root it (Tutorials are available on XDA)
I hope i helped a bit and sry if my English is difficult to Understand
The G2 is still cheap plastic and it's better not going without a case. This thing breaks if it's dropped :cyclops:

Yes you can. Either modify build.prop or install G2Tweaksbox. The latter is preffered.

That's a matter of personal opinion. For me, the Samsung and LG roms look pretty close to eachother. With G2 Tweaksbox you can tweak most of the UI and you can also flash a "flatter" notification panel. There are plenty of mods.

Battery is great - well it used to be great prior to 4.4.2. If you wanna flash, I suggest a Cloudy rom from cloudyfa + dorimanx kernel.
Asphalt 8 drains about 10% battery per 15-20minutes of gaming.
7. Whatabout the display, any disadvantages?

Yup - broken screen = broken digitizer. It feels plasticy all around and doesn't have that solid build. Just slap a case on it,

G2 gives most bang for your buck (the OPO does too but it's not avaliable yet) - so no, it's a fine choice but all a matter of personal preference

Thanks for an answers so far guys. So it seems better to stick with Jelly rather than Kit kat due to its performance discutability and battery life. Im I correct?

Performance wise, KitKat is a lot better, but the battery is a bit worse. I'm personally on KitKat because speed is more important than 1 hour extra of screen on time. I mean, I'd spend that 1 hr extra SOT watching my phone lag so it breaks even - if you know what I mean

I think the battery life of the G2 on kitkat will still kick the S4's butt by a margin. We have been spoiled on jellybean but with kitkat it is still far better than any smart device that I have used.
The battery life still can be improved with a custom kernel like dorimanx. For me the phone is running for 27hrs straight with wifi on all the time, got 2hrs of SOT and yet I still have 83% battery left.

Okay I hoped for more opinions. But seems to me I made right dicision and can do no wrong going for G2. Anyways they had only 16GB version, so I have to wait few more days till I have my hands on 32GB. Will try gather some more info, bout customs and kernels around here.

custom recovery
Hi there mates,
so I finally get my LG G2 (d802). I updated to 4.4.2 KK and rooted it with IOroot, it was oh so easy. But than I started to read about custom recoveries and it is oh so mess. I pushed twrp with adb sucesfullyl, but cant reboot into recovery because some boot error and have black screen, when i hold power button i can get in to system normally. I red about autorec, but seems to be buggy and i dont want to loose knock on. Also red about Philz and CWM, but dont want to run into some kind of trouble, so I thougt it would be wise to ask someone more experienced for an advice. Would You please be so kind and give me a helping hand on this topic? Can You recommend me a custom recovery working on 4.4.2 KK without needing to unroot and downgrade and the method to push/flash/install it?
Thanks in advance mates!

So obviously it's about time for me to get a new phone, considering mine is never going to make it past 5.0 lollipop and various other reasons. I just want to know what to expect if I do end up getting the Moto X Pure. Will I be happy/satisfied with my purchase? Will there be a huge learning curve?

I would say go for it if you don't care about the Spen. The Note 3 is a great phone but I enjoy the Pure alot more. There is no bloat to speak of and you can unlock the bootloader and flash whatever you want. Camera wise the Pure is better. I especially like the Moto display where you can wave your hand in front of the lock screen to see your notifications and unlock it instead of pressing buttons. I would suggest to get at least a 32GB or more model. I currently have the 16GB one and find it too small so I have a 64GB on it's way. It makes things easier when flashing ROMs because you don't need to format the external SD to adaptive storage.

Im not sure why those reviews say that.
I constantly get 4 - 5hrs screen on time, occasionally it'll get 6hrs screen on time, that was on stock non rooted.
I've also recently rooted and flashed xposed with gravity box and still continue to get very acceptable battery life.
i have the US version of the Pure. Not sure if my phone just got a good battery.

I came from note 3 as well. On it since it came out. I've seen quite a spread on what people get. I'll low ball and say definitely 3 1/2, 4 1/2 with some management. Better build than 3 (expected). You'll have to get used to the color changes. Samsung saturates, so remember that. Someone posted getting 32 at least. I definitely agree with that statement. Don't bother with 16, even with the availability of SD card. Great radio. Unlocked for carriers. Price can't be beat. Only other option would be Nexus 6P.

I was running stock until a couple hours ago and decided to try AICP. So far it's running great.
Def agree with everyone to get 32gb or above. What took me by surprise is this phone has no LED notification.....unless your rooted and running a rom which supports it (most do). Also when you root you will be able to control doze much more efficiently and get much better standby battery. This has the brightest screen I have ever seen (have it on 5%-10% while indoors), great audio jack/speaker sound/reception/camera and battery charges ridiculously quick. It's safe to say you will love this phone.
plz dont buy, battery life is pathetic and if you use xposed it would be worse, i mean really really worse, it feels like 2000mah sometimes :/ , i need to sell it now, and using old nexus 6 again

@spookykidmm, don't listen to this clown. Xposed doesn't affect battery life. If you're running some janky modules, you could run in to issues, but that's not Xposed. Additionally, normal battery life is not pathetic. Battery life on the Galaxy S6 is pathetic. I usually average between 5-6 hrs SOT depending on usage (with or without Xposed). Typically the people on here that complain are in the minority... that's true for nearly every phone. And a lot of times, they screw things up on their own and blame the phone

Since battery depends on many variables like screen brightness, signal strength, apps installed, sync frequency, etc....your setup could be giving you horrible battery life, but explain to me how xposed makes battery that much worse....you must have many modules incorrectly configured.
My girlfriend upgraded from her Note 3 to the Moto X Pure when I upgraded at the same time from my LG G4 to this and we're both EXTREMELY satisfied. Dev support is on the rise so you'll have a few choices in ROMs. I'm currently rockin' TruPureXMM v2.5 with Franken Kernel using his Battery Profile settings, xPosed with GravityBox, Amplify & XGPM and can honestly say I couldn't be much happier with the experience overall.
We have the 64 GB models and neither of us use an sdCard since it's been more than enough for us. Google Photos keeps our photos stored and Google Play Music is our choice of service (Family Plan for $14.99 a month) which lets us stream our over 23,000 song collection and gives us access to any song on Google Play with no ads and since we have T-Mobile the music streaming isn't going against our high speed data, which is very nice. As other are saying, you will enjoy the dual-front speakers, the screen is great, and battery life is within reasonable acceptance. You can squeeze more out of it fairly easily with some tweaking and the quick-charge is INSANE. You can't beat the charger that comes with this phone.
