Razor M or Galaxy? - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I gotta switch my sons plan to Verizon. Right now he has a S3 on sprint. I can't really afford to buy him another S3 and wanted your opinions on the Razor M especially after buying my S4.....hehehe

The M is an excellent phone. It has the same chipset as the VZW S3, and the size is excellent in my opinion. The stock firmware does a pretty poor job of demonstrating the phone's power, but with something like CM10.1, it's blazing fast. Apparently the screen has noticeably lower resolution than the S3, but personally, I don't have a problem with it. Battery is awesome, easily make a day on a charge.
I honestly would chose it over the S3 regardless of the price, but that's a nice little bene too

The m also has a gorilla glass screen and reinforced body. Ive dropped it a few times and it still looks mint

Lucky. Mine doesn't look mint, but it just has a couple scratches on the bevel. Nothing bad at all. I've dropped it a ton though...

Same here. Every time I get a scuff on the bezel a piece of me dies inside
I've found Trident's case to be a pretty great medium-duty case if anyone wants to try it out.

I had an S3, which was an awesome phone... but personally I like the feel of the M in my hand better. The screen is obviously better in the S3, but I don't really notice that much for what I use it for.

This is why I got my RAZR M over the S3 in the first place. I went from a DINC to an iPhone 4S, got bored and wanted back on Android.
I LOVE my RAZR M, and even the entirely stock firmware feels much more AOSP based than touchwiz or Sense. Toss a launcher on it and an AOSP icon pack, and it feels very vanilla Android. And now with the unlocked bootloader, there are quite a few CM options, and I'd assume plenty more to come. :good:

Yeah, I was running the moto based Eclipse V2 ROM for a while and liked it, but had to jump on the pure google train when the ROM got a little more stable.

Nexus S experience (2 weeks in)

I LOVE my Nexus S! Sure its not perfect....I would have gone for a Desire HD if I wanted the "best". I got the Nexus because I wanted to play...and play I have
Never flashed a rom till this phone. Now I am getting obsessed, clockwork makes it so easy! Tried most of them and I am currently on Cyanogen nightlies. I so look forward to seeing these rom's mature (they are so good after only a few weeks already) and I expect we will have our Nexi (plural of Nexus??) outperforming more modern devices.
So yes, I am very happy and massive respect to the clever people who "cook" roms and kernals for the likes of me, and xda for making it accessible

Complete wipes and fresh flashes.....but no joy.
But it is awesome! The kernal boots in seconds. I am sure they will make a stable version for my delicate device.
If my nexus was a car, Cyanogen is leather seats, neon lights and a spoiler....Bionix/trinity is putting a supercharged V10 under the hood

It's a nice bit of kit as you'd expect from HTC, but for me, the screen is just that little bit too big. Plus we get AMOLED on the lovely Nexus.
And NFC. Not that it's any use at the moment, but better to have the hardware and wait for Google to find something awesome to do with it than to get 6 months down the line and miss it...

I really love this phone and have had it since launch but I'm on number five. I just really have bad luck with these kinds of things or perhaps I'm just really ocd. I thought this last one would be perfect finally but I'm having really bad touch screen issues. The phone randomly goes unresponsive. The back button and pretty much the whole lower half of the phone or left side it you are not in landscape. Its starting and stopping even as I type. I love this phone when it works! I cringe every time I go to best buy because I feel like I'm some kind of hypochondriac but the problems are real! My first had a bad screen flaw and since then its been unresponsive back button like this one (minus the screen unresponsiveness), dim back button, dead pixel, and now this one. I have the black tie protection too. I'm not giving up on the phone but man its so frustrating. Just work without defect dang it!

[Q] How good a phone is this ?

Ig Going to Upgrade from my Lg optimus and was wanting to get the g2x but have heard that it has too many problems so i was looking at this one and saw it had all of my favorite roms i really dont like the design of the phone or mysense but custom roms make up for all of that . The thing is that the hardware old now that there are more dualcore phones And the screen is small for what i was wanting. Can you all give me some feedback or maybe suggest some better alternatives ?
Its solid. Battery life is fair, don't expect to be away from the charger. But thats common with Android phones.
There are 2 screens/displays. If you get one, you will get a nice one (bright colors) or the washed up one thats all white and just is terrible.
I have the one with the washed up screen but didn't really notice it until I got a G2X. However, from my experience here is what I find:
Stock Rom: Its solid. I never had any complaints with it. It will bogg down and lagg, but its expected. You get used to it after a while, but the phone was solid in Stock Rom. Never had problems while using it. Camera is decent. Sense 2.1 is alright, I like it. You won't have complaints
If you feel adventurous, you can Root it and flash ROMS. CM7 and Virtious Unity are the best alternative to the stock ROM. You'll get a performance boost.
Personally I bought a G2X thinking its better and in many ways it is. However, the one thing that just disgusts me about my phone is just how washed up screen is. Its not that is defective, just that HTC used different manufacturers for the display and I got the one that looks all washed up and just looks terrible. When compared to the G2X, the difference is night and day.
If not for that, I probably would still be using this phone. Mytouch 4G has been good to me. I have it as a spare. But if you haven't been spoiled by a bright, rich color, and contrast. Give it a shot. 50/50 on getting a good display. Overall the phone is great.
I mean get it if you can't wait. I won't lie, G2X took time to find a stable ROM. There are issues, but you'll have to test and tweak before finding stable ground. Or you might be lucky and get a bright/good display. LG can rot for producing such trash of a ROM. I'm on a G2X. But I do miss the stable myTouch 4G.
Umm I see. If I Get a bad one I can replace until I get lucky and get a good one right? I don't like the stock ui so yea I was planning on putting cm7 miui or virtuous unity are those smooth and stable?

mt4g addict here, it's basically the best single core phone out there, i haven't seen anyone with a bad display yet (socal)
you will love this phone, it is definitely a beast.
I never used miui but every top rom out there is smooth and stable on here.
virtuous unity, royalginger (it's like cm7 that is stripped down and supercharged) heard a lot of good things about faux's rom. But i'm definitely attached to virtuous unity right now.
Forewarning, you will go on a flashing craze the first time you get this phone because every rom on here is amazing. there's a lot of great devs on here.
comparison, my friend, cousin, and brother has the samsung galaxy 4g and is jealous of my phone
my friend with the g2x is jealous of it.
However, right now I'm a bit jealous of the sensation and the devs that are heading over there.
MT4G is a good phone. I was hesitant to buy one after I dropped in broke my Vibrant screen.
It very speedy and the battery life is decent. My only complaint is I was/am used to the Super AMOLED display but after one month of using my old Blackberry this screen is beautiful.
From what I have seen if the phone was made in china you will get a good display. I think the washed out one is made in taiwan. check under the battery before it gets installed.

Virgin stock N4

Is the nexus 4 worth getting, if I want to keep it stock? (no rooting/unlocking/etc)
The whole reason i wanted a nexus, is to have a rest from constantly flashing the nightlies and updates/backing up/restoring.
I think, that this phone is the best for me, but it's pricey in EU (~470$ from play store), and the difference between S3 and N4 is only 70$, do you think it's still a good value, or should i get the s3?
Thanks in advance!

The Nexus 4's specs are still better than the S3, it's screen is brighter, has more natural colors, and ditches pentile, the body is made up of Gorilla Glass 2 instead of plastic, and you will get updates from Google, pure stock Android.
What you lose is the features of Touchwiz, the delicacy of glass may be a problem, the S3 has more memory and an SD card slot, and its camera is apparently better.
It's your choice
Sent from my DROID2 using xda premium
Yeah it is ultimately your choice, but you can get a Nexus 4 if you want to keep it stock. I am. You do not have to root, unlock bootloader, etc... to enjoy it. Stock is plenty awesome.
Absolutely! I've ran stock on both my gnex and N4.
I too had grown tired of constant flashing. Stock runs great and there really isn't a must have feature I can find in a custom ROM.
Sent from my Nexus 4
Sure, go for it. Precisely BECAUSE it's a nexus, you don't feel the need to flash custom roms to get rid of the crappy stock experience like you have to on most other phones. However, in the future, if you ever do want to try your hand at using custom stuff again, you will have the support of the best modder community around. Win Win.
Edit: as for the S3, sure it has a few more features than stock android, but I personally find a lot of them gimmicky or altogether useless. Also, my brother just received the official samsung jellybean update on his s3 and it is nowhere as smooth as stock jellybean on my N4.

I have fallen in love with this phone all over again. This is exactly what I wanted. The camera quality hasn't suffered, and Beats is present.
I just switched from iPhone land and I loved the phone with Sense, but it's still awkward and clunky. Much less so than what I had remembered of Sense from years past. I kept hearing about how Jelly Bean was really a big leap for the platform and it really shows with the GPE ROM. I didn't realize how polished Jelly Bean was until tonight. I am now 100% team Google/Android.
I'll never get rid of my MacBook but it's going to take something extraordinary to pry the One out of my hand. These speakers have spoiled me, I don't think I can leave HTC now even though I want a true Nexus device next.
I like how it seems smoother and cleaner. My new daily driver!
Its amazing. Much better than I anticipated. Just make sure to download the aosp browser.

I'm a little annoyed by the fact that aptX is missing now. Other than that, it's much preferred over Sense.

There isn't an option for this on aosp 4.2.2.
You'll have to install a de-odexed version and I am sure there will be plenty of % battery mods to flash very soon if not already.

The camera quality has suffered!!! There is no way on Earth that the quality on the Trickdroid GE Rom is anywhere near as good as stock or ARHD 11.
It made me like my one twice as much
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
Stock android lovers will obviously love this, whereas I personally miss some sense stuff. For the starters the audio quality is worse, not just in headphones but the loudspeaker is definitely quieter than on sense. I miss the camera interface and Zoe as well as things like focusing on a bright area so it dims the picture and vice versa.
Can't judge battery life since I didn't use it long enough. It's smooth but my One running Viper Rom is really smooth and personally won't trade off some really good features to gain a 0.05 speed increase. It's good that the option is there for stock android lovers though

S5 good enough to pull me away from '13 Moto X?

Currently have a Moto X Dev Edition, bought it back almost a year ago I believe. I like the phone but the camera sucks and the battery could be better. It's super slick and smooth, rarely have any issues with it except for Bluetooth from time to time. But I'm also already noticing a little bit of screen burn-in, and I'm not on my phone 24/7 either. I've always questioned Motorola's AMOLED screen quality, I had an S3 and S4 and those screens were great. Plus I miss having expandable memory so I don't have to stream all of my 20+ GB of music through Google Play Music...
Long story short, it's time to replace the X. I thought about the Turbo but the lack of voice/data usage, the marginally better camera, and reports of poor wifi reception are keeping me away, not to mention the brightness also is subpar. After having the S4 and all it's laggy problems, I said no more Samsung phones, but it seems the S5 is greatly improved. My choices right now are the S5, G3, the new Sony whateveritis, and possibly the Note 4 but that's pushing the size limit a little bit.
Thoughts?

I've been seeing a lot of that lately... monochromatic theming. It used to be years ago you had to make your ROMs colorful with custom icons, now it's all about battery savings.
Who am I kidding... my wallpaper themes are usually mostly black for the same reason.
Alright, I don't want to open a new thread but I do have a couple more questions related to the original topic.
Is the S5 still worth buying this late in the game, or do people have a better suggestion for a device? I tried the Note 4, too damn big.
Also, I take it NI2 is the most recent update, and if so can it be rooted successfully at this point?

Yep... rooted my N12 and running safe strap. Did it 2 weeks ago brand new S5. Some are holding out for the Nexus 6 as it will have an unlocked bootloader. Thread for rooting is here in the forums. (GUIDE) JTIDLER Under the S5 General area
