I'm not sure :s
Maybe its resending any failed messages that may not have gone through before you rebooted

Are you using the AT&T Locker service or AT&T Messages or anything else that might be periodically backing up your SMS data?

It may also be Google attempting to backup messages if you have that option checked.

Where is there an option to back up messages to google's cloud? Of all the years I've been using android devices, this has never existed.

And this backs up and restores all your SMS/MMS messages, as well as "application data, Wi-Fi passwords, and other settings"?

To be honest I don't use it much. But it appears to.

i think this is the samsung backup, you probably selected auto-backup when you first booted your phone, i had that too but when i reset my phone i didnt check it and it stopped

If you run an AOSP rom this is just the settings defined for backing up what everyone has always come to known: contacts, wifi passwords, apps. There is no SMS backup to google.

Phone to phone migration

Just wondering what is the fastest or easiest method to completely copy over everything from one vibrant to another as I just got my replacement today. I would love to copy all my apps and settings. Also will I lose all the apps I purchased? Thanks!!

No ideas? I guess I'll just start doing it the old fashion way lol
Your contacts, calendar should be synced to gmail already. Try using mybackup pro or titanium backup for things like app data but I believe you still have to download the apps to your phone again. Purchased apps are saved to your purchase history via gmail

If your are rooted use Titanium Back up. MyBackup Pro is good for things like text.

gmail sync failure

I restored my phone from the CM9b1 back to my original ROM (via a full repartition to stock ec05 and update to ei22) and noticed that I'm getting one-way sync issues. I get email notifications, my gmail app has new messages, but when I delete them it doesn't kick back up to the web with the update.
I've read dozens of posts saying to clear data, cache, etc and I've tried to do it all. Verified my account sync settings, auto sync and etc, looked at the data/cache under app management but the clear button is grayed out entirely because it says the data and cache in use by gmail are both 0. There is also no 'gmail storage' piece under app management that I can wipe out.
If I boot to recovery and wipe cache will that help?
Use Titanium Backup to wipe data in Gmail.

$7 in order to delete gmail buggy data? Ugh. Is there a way to do it using root terminal, perhaps?
--edit--
Nevermind - I see the free version on the web market, but I can't seem to search it up from my phone itself in-app.
THAT worked - thank you very much :]
You are welcome.

Install this app and backup your sms (texts). It says it can even email you the backup. You can then view the file on your computer and do what you'd like with it. The data format is going to be a little raw though. Personally, I'd just import into Excel and clean it up, but you'll have to see if this does what you need for now.
I'm sure someone else will have a better suggestion. This was just off the top of my head.

SMS Backup version 1.1.1. This sends all your text messages to your gmail account. I've been using it for a long time and it works great. The author of this app is Christoph Studer.

Or you can use Google voice which will save a copy on your Google account automatically after setup that you can pull up anywhere and check just like gmail.

Its saves as a html. No reason you cant open that and pull the texts you want out and print them. Could change them and restore too, then you have text from someone that never happen. Hmmmm. Lmao

Help with full backup

I'm trying to root my Nexus 4. I got the tool for it (which seems to have a backup feature) but I was wondering what the best thing to do is so I can get my phone exactly the way it was before I rooted and cleared the data without too much trouble. Again I want to have everything back including the apps, SMS, pictures, app data.
Thanks!

Carbon will back up apps and app data (does NOT require root), Google takes care of the settings. As for pictures, just attach them to a computer via USB and copy them over.
Thanks! Anything for SMS Backup? I've found a few apps but what is commonly used?

The app i mentioned in my first post also backups SMS and contacts.
I usually use Super Backup : SMS & Contacts it works great to backup contacts / sms / call logs / Bookmarks / Calendars. By default it backups to the internal storage. Just copy those files to your computer. After you finish rooting/unlocking, copy back the files to your phone and restore it using the same app.

[Q] Contacts list not responding

So when you go into your contacts list, the first one listed is "Me". If I try to click on myself I get the following message (screenshot) every time. However if I click and hold, I can go in and edit my personal details. Just wondering if this is normal?

I get the exact same issue! Just got the phone today and went through setting it up and wanted to check my contact info, and got the same crash each time.
Can anyone shed a light on this?

Bumping! i am still facing the same issue. Please help!
do a factory reset and if it does not help clear defaults and cache the next time.

Hmmm ya factory reset may work. Don't want to go through setting everything up again just for this. Everything else is working for now so I'll wait till I get the 4.4 update

Make a backup of your contacts (or not, if they are stored on Google), find the Contacts app and clear cache and data. Reboot phone, try Contacts again.

It worked! thank you! cant see my Google+ profile in this though!
EDIT:
To provide an update, looks like the Google+ integration is doing something. As soon as my google+ profile got connected to my local profile, i am again getting the same error.
Same problem here :/
