[Q] eMMC TRIM Support - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Does the S4's memory chip have TRIM support?
I used LagFix on my tablet and it does wonders for performance. (Not that my S4 is lacking any performance, after all my tweaks it's in beast mode) I googled all over the place but I can't seem to find any information on if there is TRIM support on the S4 or on how to be able to find out if it does.
Most likely the lack thereof implies that it doesn't but I'm thinking it there might be no information due to the newness of the device.

[Q] Is the Tab2 on the bleeding edge?

Is it only me who is a little bit disappointed about the tab2/5110?
Just bought one today as a present. Had good experience with a Acer A500 for more than a year now and thought the brandnew Tab2 should be the way to go and decided without any research. I have been quite satisfied with all my other Samsung stuff, especially the SIII. Now it turns out the Tab2 is way less performant than my SIII!? Is there anything I miss to become a satisfied customer!?
Just starting to think about returning the Tab2 and change for new Acer or other stuff, have to sleep over this now.
Other question: Is there anything like Acer Print on the Tab2? Tried this Epson app from the Playstore but this seems not to integrate in browsers and stuff....
Thx a lot!

Not to sound unsympathetic, but you do know the tab 2 is a dual core, whilst the s3 is a quad core? You admit you did no research...why?
On a more helpful note, the performance does improve when jelly bean installed.

Either return and get galaxy note 10 (quad core flagship samsung tab) or try cm10 (jb unofficial) from www.teamhacksung.org will increase performance considerably
Also try after installing cm10, to install Johnsel overclock kernel and changing overclocking setting from setting/performance
Regarding print i think i read in the manual that you could print with samsung printer (certain models only) ask samsung agent in your country

The Tab2 has been out for a while. Samsung's new hotness is the Note. The Tab2 does perform better with some of the different non-stock roms available. Also, power saving mode throttles the cpu down quite a bit.
Tab 2 was never meant to be cutting edge? None of the tech was even new when it was released. It performs very well if not better than its place as a mid level tablet.

Its not that fast. Its not priced to be.
My phone is faster than my tablet and that's OK with me. You'll need to accept it like I did or return the tab2 and get a more expensive tablet. You have the receipt, right?
Edit: custom roms make a huge performance gain.
ya i would recommended putting aokp on it, i have been using aokp on my tab2 almost the entire time and i love it. its so smooth and responsive.
Thx guys for your constructive answers to my dumb questions . I just thought the Tab2 is the best one can get at the moment as in central Europe it seems just to be available for some weeks now and the Google is just 7in. And as it should become a present I did not do any research before the buy. Anyway, lesson learned...
And yes, the performance running stock ROM is quite bad even after removing a whole bunch of bloatware. Updating the ROM is something which I'd do for sure. But there is an other thing which forgot to tell about and which can not be fixed with a new ROM: The complete lack of any external Interfaces except this proprietary connector thing. Coming from the Acer I'm used to have USB, microUSB, HDMI and so on which has been in use from time to time but having absolutely nothing is something I do not like (and which I blame iPad users regularly for . What is your opinion abot this?
Thx a lot!
Sadly, the connector issue is something you'll face with many tablets. I used to own the acer a500 aswell, and it does take some adjustment. But there are ways around it. You can buy adapters etc. Its not exactly an elegant solution, but its an option.

You are not paying for a bleeding edge device so I supose the answer to your question is "no". But it isnt suposed to be.

The Galaxy Note 2 has a low power microcontroller dedicated to sensor data.

"I just found this out yesterday but the Note 2 has a separate controller for gathering sensor data.
In short, unlike previously where the CPU had to wake up to gather data, a dedicated low power processor takes care of this!
It works for the accelerometer, magnetosensor, and orientation sensors for sure. It may also work for the other ones.
Source: Samsung SGS2 Note Development Engineer i talked to yesterday at Samsung's Tech Fair"

I thought you guys would like to know from this sharing.
And what will this will benefit us as a user?? Is it mean our N2 will feedback more faster for all d sensor? Any example? Sorry for such stupid question..just want some confirmation..

I think with the 'low power' part, it's a way to save battery.
Also, with a separate controller for those other functions, the main CPU can keep to other tasks more efficiently.
At least that's my speculation.
Opss..already discussed here..

Question to those who upgraded from Galaxy S2

If you take battery life and camera quality out of the equation, do you think there is a good reason to upgrade to S4 from S2 ? do you find something particularly better on the S4 ?
Thanks.
Screen resolution..

Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
Overall screen quality, much much faster charging, lots of smart features which makes life easier.
For me, the screen and battery life(also the charging speed, was frustrated by S2 taking 4-5 hrs to charge) were the reasons enough to upgrade.
I'd say I do like the phone but was almost slightly disappointed when I first got it...I preferred the size of the s2 but have since become more used to the s4 size wise. Otherwise as others said, screen quality is much better, battery is better for me at least, some of the gimmicky stuff is good for some, nfc and just generally faster etc
worth the upgrade if you want to!
Thank you for your answers.
From what you say, it seems I don't have much to gain by upgrading from S2 to S4 currently.
I don't have LTE in my country.
I keep a spare S2 battery in my wallet (so battery is never an issue).
All the gimmicks I'll probably never use...
I do like the bigger screen, but it also makes it harder to carry...
It seems that even though the S4 is about 10X faster than the S2, this huge hardware advantage doesn't translate to real life performance gain (apart from 3D games maybe, but I hardly play those).
2 years ago I upgraded from HTC HD2 to Galaxy S2, because the S2's internet browsing speed was about 2-3 times faster than the HD2. This was a real advantage I could enjoy every day (and I am enjoying it everyday). It seems that the S4 simply doesn't have that "killer feature" which will make it a much more functional device than the S2 (browsing speed for example is practically identical between these two devices)... It could be that Android 5 will finally unleash the S4's potential (and totally kill the S2 because of lack of support), but I think Android 5 is very far away... (by then we might have the S5 already)
Ultimately, it does come down to what you use. I must say though, the S4 is very easy to get used to. So, once you're used to the 5inch in hand, it'll be hard for you to go back to anything smaller.
But browsing is smoother if anything. But, if you're happy with your S2 then you should stay and wait for S800 CPUs to arrive atleast Then, you may witness some real performance boosts. Not that you wont see any improvement with the S600 [you will ]
I upgraded from s2 to i9500.
The screen resolution its A WHOLE NEW WORLD i can tell you that, also the size of it, once you get confortable with the size, you cant never go back. The only thing its that there is a lot less roms, and another thing from my model is that there is a problem with the camera driver and some apps wont work.
I upgraded from the S2 to S4 (I9505 edition)
PROS:
* Bigger screen / better resolution / much more vibrant / much more clear / heaps better colour
* Faster / more powerful in EVERY aspect (CPU, RAM, WIFI, LTE etc etc)
* Newer / faster updates (especially with the Google Edition ROMS)
* Super Customizable (S2 was great about a year ago, since then it has died off substantial as developers have moved onto other devices)
* A HUGE number of developers on the S4 (XDA and other forums)
* Bunch of new features - pedometer, thermometer, gyro, humidity monitor, eye tracking, air-view, etc etc etc (not going to list them all, because i don't have time)
CONS:
* nothing.... S4 is basically an S2 on steroids and 2 years more advanced hardware combined with brilliant software.
Basically comes down to:
1) can you afford the upgrade
2) do the PRO's features benefit you in anyway
3) am i able to handle, such amazing power and put it to a good use...

[Q] Is there a hardware difference between the variants?

Is there an actual hardware difference between the variants?
Or is it just different software (radio, kernel etc.)?
Only the korean ones are different hardware wise from what i know. They got Tv tuner and sd,but might not have fm tuner, not sure if there is more.
Verizon adds wireless battery charging. Also the radios may be different to connect to the various providers but others more knowledgeable can fill you in there.
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
Korean version has removable backcover, battery and replacable SD card, battery is smaller at 2610 Mah
So I theory we should be able to use different variant's roms, and just change the radio?

My opinion: ZGPAX. The OMATE, with all ofit's clone/knock-off copies, where you don't know what your getting is just unproven. The ZGPAX has all the hardware and just needs a little development to be perfect. The OMATE just has way too many unanswered questions and just seems like it started with good Intentions but is falling short, way short for the $$$.
ZGPAX
Has lower performance overall
More battery hungry
Lacks 3G
Lower resolution camera
Known for overheat issues
Runs older version of Android (ICS 4.0.4)
Less RAM and storage than higher end x201 models
smaller dev community
No source code
No major apps partnerships
Lacks any water resistance rating
Has FM Radio
Costs less
Umeox x201
Costs more
Camera cannot be used for video chat
Water resistance is reported by some as more "splash proof" than a swimmer's watch
May be delays in getting the Omate version
Performance equal to a Galaxy SII
More battery efficient
Has 3G and HSPA+ (up to 7mbps)
Higher resolution camera
Produces less heat
Run newer version of Android (Jelly Bean 4.2.2)
Larger dev community (This also includes members of TeamWin/OmniRom and CyanogenMod)
Has source code
Major app partnerships
Screen is insanely bright (minimum brightness is equal to a Nexus 4 at 50%)

There are no clones or knock-offs. they all use the same core board and come from the same place. The main difference is specs (RAM & internal storage) and case design. I've been using mine since November and have little issue with it other than my developer sample being the world model and not the NA model.
What kind of questions?
