hello! sometimes happens and I hate it.
when i am using some app and i press center button che touchwiz is empty and in 1/2 second all appear.
i really hate it.
is there a way to fix it?
i also see that i have always 1,2 gb ram full and just 800 mb free..is it normal?or maybe correlated?
thanks

To the second question: that's completely normal, you don't have to worry about it. Not used RAM is wasted RAM. I'll let someone smarter answer the first question. There may come if there already isn't a fix that will lock the launcher to memory or something :fingers-crossed:
The redraws will be ironed out slowly in newer updates.
One thing that could help you in case you didn't do it allready is to go to S-Voice > settings > and disable that ,,open via the home key'' option .
thanks! i have uninstalled (just freeze) everything like s voice ecc..

Visit the V6SuperCharger thread where you can patch your services.jar and make your launcher die hard, better OOM groupings etc....among many many other features.

May i ask why is the ram used always 500-600 / 776 even after closing all programs? Is this normal?
Yes, it is normal, but with touch of some devs we could get more

Honestly, the fact that a lot of RAM is being used is a good thing. Think about it. If you have loads of free unused RAM, then that's just really high speed memory that isn't being used to make your system and apps run and load faster.

make sense but somehow looking at that amount of ram use doesn't seem to justify the speed i feel
Well, maybe just get use to it and hope it gets better after some nice update
The only problem of too much used ram is that the garbage collection on the the Tab7.7 is quite bad and needs to be tweaked once you have 50mb free ram it starts to significantly slow down till the low memory killer decides to kick in.

I not sure how many times this needs to be repeated, but the lag is due to honeycomb and touchwiz, and likely won't change till ICS arrives.

Except that most of it is filled with bloatware that most of us won't even use.
I hate how Android decides for me what it will load. I have no control of it and that is annoying. I wish it was more like a PC where you can uninstall the crap you don't want and be shut of it for good.

A windows 8 tablet might give you just that and I would assume the modding community for it will be bigger.

You can... root it (takes around 2 minutes) and use Titanium Backup to freeze or even uninstall system apps.

which apps can be freeze ?
Thank you
might as well try installing autostarts app so you will have control on the app that will run on certain event, such as during boot up, when wifi is turned on etc. saves ram and loading times (during boot up not the app themselves)
I just uninstalled a bunch of stuff, about 61 APK's this includes apps that I will never use and widgets that I dont use that auto starts.

That is a very good question. Whats apps could safely be frozen that wont interfeer with the operation of the tab. Everytime i clear ram using the stock task manager it closes over 20 apps, i would like to know what they are and if i really need them.
Sent from my GT-P6800 using xda premium
Mine is always used maxed at 650mb.. If I clear them, it will go down to 420.. sometime even 380..
650MB sounds about right as we only have 766MB of usable mem, andriod tends to keep between 75-95mb of free ram for god knows what.
i just get tired of stupid TouchWiz to kill my browser or Reader each time i go to Home launcher and open something else

I tried that on my phone and it ended up freezing the GUI somehow (even though I only froze bloat) so I could no longer use the phone at all. I had to reflash the FW through odin and set up all over again. What a pain. I am a bit aprehensive to freeze anything now.
which system apps that we suppose to freez and it's save??do you have any suggestion??

i am having some issues with the ram - it gets to a point where the device becomes unresponsive using around 750 mb of ram - not sure exactly why and i dont always have alot of apps open - i am forced to hold the power button down and restart - i am rooted running the magnolia tab 1.1 beta - i dont remember if this was happening before i rooted / running this rom - i am not running any widgets at all now and it is still happening - anyone else having this issue ?
I suspect the missing ram may have been stolen by the Mali graphics adapter. I'm not certain but since this is a SOC there isn't any place to put ram so it just nicks done system ram. It seems like a lot to go missing but texture can be pretty large these days.

I've installed launch pro plus and now have about 250+mb free with many widgets onscreen. I guess touchwiz is resource hog.
Edit: after reading comments i switched to APEX launcher.. its even better.
Hows the multitasking on it.... can you play shadowgun, surf the web, do a text , make a call and then go back to the shadow gun game without the game having to restart. thanks
I thought LPP didn't work on ICS, I guess I was wrong!
Did you experiences any lags/slow-downs after that? I always thought touchwiz was hardware accelerated.
Launcher Pro hasn't been updated in forever. No thanks.
Nova or Apex Launcher would be my choice.

I have had mixed results running various roms. On some it didn't work at all and others very poorly. I have yet to see it work without any issues.
_______________
Just Flash It !!!
it works ... but the code is heavily outdated, project is abanconed by the developer.
better get nova launcher, it got way more features (but lacks the LP widgets -- but who cares )
And about the RAM: dont worry ... Android is designed to use its RAM, not to keep the RAM empty --- still 750mb left which is enough
Can you take a screenshot of the available RAM after using Launcher Pro?
People should stop using LPP. It hasn't been updated for over a year. No support. The developer is not responsive.
Do not support these types of developers.

task manager + gotaskmanager all kill = about 300mb.
Thanks for your answer.
And if you use the Pop up play function ? (= watch a video )
How many Ram does it consume (or let free) ?
Oh boy! Here we go again with the Windows mentality of wanting free RAM. You guys really have no clue. Please go read up on how Linux and Android uses RAM and why free RAM is not really a great thing.
I just ask questions about RAM cause I lack of it on my SGS ... Try to put on a SGS 1 or 2 widgets and you will see if RAM is important or not ...

Isn't free ram important ? I don't want to know the technical side or anything because as far as I know having free ram makes multitasking plain brilliant .... I will give u an example on sgs 1 the ram was 329 mb of which touchwiz usually took about 200 mb so when suppose one is browsing the web with multiple tabs with flash pages loaded touchwiz would crash and it would a couple of seconds to reload secondly the app drawer will also reload taking upto 5 seconds.....now all these problems were taken care of in sgs 2 because it had a lot of ram so for me its important ....I hope that on sgs3 the user experience is perfect just like sgs2 ...m really looking forward to it
Just to let you guys know, do not use a task manager that kills apps in your minfree. Only use the task manager Samsung gave you that is taking memory outside of your min free.

This is just an inherent problem with the launcher. It can get killed, and you can't do anything about it short of installing tweaks and scripts. @simms22 pointed out a couple things you can check, but by default none of those should be there causing trouble to begin with, so yeah... until Google comes up with a solution.

Yes but people usually tell me to stop using my crappy widgets and my crappy launcher (Apex). I can't help it. I don't think Google will do anything about it, and it seems the only solution that tends to work is either you make sure its a low memory launcher with few widgets or you go overkill on RAM like 16gb RAM on phones.

If said this way the only way to reduce it is to simply swipe it away from recent apps. Are you worried about RAM? You shouldn't be worried about it. Android manages its ram kinda good.I usually run my device for months without clearing recent apps or restarting it.

Hey guys, I hope you're all doing well.
My question is why in my RN7 that hast 4gb of RAM, there is alway at least 1.5GB free? I also noticed it in a friend's phone that have 3GB and with 1 or 2 GB free, I wouln't mind if my phone usage was low, but almost always it has to reload the apps that were opened before the 3rd or 4th most recent. I dont know if I'm making any sense but the RAM usage shouldn't be almost 100%?
Thank you
Is that for what u ask?
That's exactly what I mean, the RAM is free but several apps have to be reloaded after a while.
Edit: I think I found an answer, I suppose is the battery optimizer that closes apps after a while, if anyone knows about this, please confirm.
2Gb free here. On latest RevOS MIUI.
I'm not worried about using 2 of 4gigs, is the contrary, I want to use all the gigs so my apps don't reload too often and are ready to use
