Unfortunately there is nothing within 150-200 miles from Jacksonville, Fl. I'll keep a look out for it though

the wifi they are talking about is a new wireless device we have started adding to buisness's i work for comcast and have installed quite a few of them lately but they arent that great they have a slow speed compared to the actual buisnesss's internet and are more of a gimmick.. i wouldnt go hoping xfinitywifi is just gonna start popping up everywhere it isnt lol.. the only people who get these units are new buisness subscribers and most of them tell us not to install them

I got my M3100 unlocked and bought a T-Mobile PAYG sim so I could use their (excellent) Web n Walk package for internet access.
I like the fact that I pay £1 per day maximum.
What I don't like is that they won't set up HSDPA on my account. I called customer services and they said it can only be enabled on contract, not PAYG.
Now I know their CS aren't the most technically capable bunch, so I suspect it's possible I'm being given the run-around. Before I make a pain of myself, does anyone else have this set up on PAYG?
Cheers
Totallytechie
I had the same when I called TMO customer service. They will only enable HSDPA on contract apparently. If anybody knows how to get them to turn it on for us PAYG people, please speak up!
Stu
Anyone else?
I'm pretty sure they won't won't be able to do it for you. PAYG services are always crippled (only allowing one call at the same time for example).
If I were you I'd just go for contact, they've got some pretty dam decent deal at the mo and would work out cheaper if you were spedning that quid a day.
Its definitely cheaper to get a contract with TMobile.
Ive just signed up for the 1Gb web n walk contract which costs me £7.50 a month.
I've also got their cheapest FlexT contract which Im paying about £9 a month for.
I got a good rate on my FlexT contract because Ive been with TMobile for a couple years and I told them I didnt want an upgrade phone.
When you get a contract from TMobile, tell them you already have a phone and would like a discount.
My only gripe about web n walk is when retrieving a webpage it takes a while to connect and then locate the page.
Downloading large files is great though.

I thought the webn'walk flext plan was Unlimited surfing, not 1GB?
According to their T&C's:
Fair use policy applies: Flext + web 'n' walk price plans provide unlimited internet browsing on mobile handsets in the UK. To ensure a high quality of service for all our customers, they are not to be used for other activities such as (but not limited to): modem access for computers, internet based video/audio streaming services, peer to peer file sharing, internet based video download and internet based telephony. If such use is detected, notice may be given, after which network protection controls may be applied which will result in a reduced speed of transmission.
Please tell me there isn't a hidden T-mobile T&C that states it actually equates to 1gb a month use?

Yes, all the wnw "unlimited" services have a "fair use" provision.
Standard - 1GB, Plus - 3GB, Max - 10GB.
So they're all "unlimited", just with a varying definition of the word "unlimited".
Similarly, I am offering unlimited* beer for £5. *Fair use policy of 1 pint per person applies. Additional cost per pint after this is £5/glass.

And just to clairfy those limits include both the sent and recieved data not just the received data like landline broadband operates on.
I'm on the Plus package and will be interested to see what I get through in a month being someone who needs net access where ever I go for my job.
However T Mobile dont port block ie if on the Plus package Skype works when I have the TyTn working as a 3G/Edge modem with my laptop and people have called me although I havent spoken to anyone becuase I havent carried my headset around with me.
Whilst they could block known ports for VoIP, things like MSN Messenger Live which operates as a text and VoIP system would be more difficult to police and if I Remote Access into a system that has say Skype installed on it I see no reason for the Skype functions to not transfer to my lapto.
Besides they have gone on the record to say they dont port block or penalise heavy users that have gone over their limits... yet!!

I TAKE IT BACK, THIS IS JUST FOR PALM AND WINDOWS MOBILE. I KNEW IT WAS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, BUT STILL GOOD.
With this great add-on, you have the ultimate travel companion. Take your PDA with you overseas, including countries like Canada, Mexico, China, India and more. For use with Windows Mobile or Palm operating system devices, this add-on includes unlimited international web access and email. You can find the nearest piazza on the go, reply while relaxing and keep up with your inbox beyond the borders.
This comprehensive coverage also includes access to your corporate email account with Microsoft Direct Push Technology via ActiveSync. Pair it with the Samsung ACETM, and you can connect to the widely used overseas GSM/GPRS networks in more than 110 countries.
Pricing
* Data Worldwide — $40/mo.
------------------------------------
If you are going to travel, and if your EVO works on that country, you can activate this for one month, and when you are back you deactivate this.
I have two friends with iPhone, one went to South Africa, and just for not tUrning off the internet, he got a 3000.00 bill.
Another friend went to Europe and India, and the bill was so high, that he doesn't want to hear iPhone or ATT again in his life. And his dad is on the Forbes list for India, so Imagine.
You're wrong about your update. Well, you're not wrong, but they told you bad information.
I just had this active on my Evo as I drove through Canada. It was the $40 a month "Unlimited Data Worldwide".
You just have to talk to the right person.
My order of events to get this working:
1) Go online and talk to customer support. They tell me that after the 10th of this month, there will be no unlimited data add-on.
2) Call and be told that only Palm and BlackBerry phones are capable of this add-on.
3) Call and be connected to the International Department. They tell me that my wife's Hero could use it, but not my Evo. Their reason was "The new 4G setup makes it not work worldwide"
4) Go online to their international department's live chat. They tell me that I can only do unlimited texting in Canada for free, but no data without being charged 0.02 cents per KB.
5) Call back and talk to someone competent in the international department, they activate the add-on onto my plan.
6) Spend 13 days driving around Canada with unlimited data, ftw.
Read below and call that number to get it working for you.
In the event you have questions about your international service, please dial: • 1-888-226-7212, option 2 (while in the United States) • International access code, then 1, then 817-698-4199, option 3 (while traveling outside of the United States, from your Sprint phone (this call will be free). From a landline phone: Call + 1-817-698-4199, option 3 (access and connection fees may apply in addition to long-distance costs). • Or you may chat with our Sprint Worldwide Agents from www.sprint.com/international (click Chat with us) during the hours listed below: o Monday-Friday: 6 a.m.-11 p.m. Central o Saturday & Sunday: 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Central o If outside of these hours you will be directed to email us Please review and print the information prior to your traveling.

Been looking into getting a Data only Plan for the Adam.
In searching the web, I have come to the pages talking about Pre Paid AT&T GoPhone data only plans for $20 unlimited that Iphone and other's abused and was discontinued..
Mentions have been getting data only plans from AT&T.
Looking at their plans, they have a 200mb and a 2gb plan avaiable, but are more costly and very limiting.
Anyone know if GoPhones SIMs are locked to the phones, or can it be transfered to another device, like the Adam? Would be nice to get a Pay as you go plan..
Anyone have any other options?

I am on the same boat. That said, I find tethering on tmobile works rather well.

Yes it is a device you can carry with your like the Verizon Mifi and the Sprint Overdrive. So it could essentially be in your pocket or bag, even velcro'd to the tablet
I am considering such a device but worried about coverage, costs and contracts..

Just posted the details in new thread, regarding newly announced tablet plans from AT&T. These are separate from the iPad tablet plans.
AT&T INTRODUCES NEW MONTHLY BILLING OPTION FOR TABLETS
Customers Get First Month Free When Activating New Postpaid Plan
DALLAS, MARCH 3, 2011 - AT&T today introduced convenient new postpaid billing options for tablets. Beginning today, customers can choose between AT&T's existing prepaid billing options or the new postpaid plans. The new plans can be added to customers' existing monthly wireless statements, offering the simplicity of a single monthly bill. For a limited time, customers who activate a new postpaid $25/2 GB plan will receive the first month free[1].
The new postpaid billing option will be available across AT&T retail locations, as well as att.com, Best Buy, Fry's, select Nexcom locations, and Walmart stores nationwide.
"Tablets offer the convenience of mobile broadband virtually anywhere and our new billing options give customers the flexibility to choose how they prefer to be billed," said David Christopher, chief marketing officer, AT&T Mobility & Consumer Markets.
Customers may choose from the following options.
· Postpaid: $14.99 for 250 MB or $25 for 2 GB. Customers on the 2 GB plan who exceed their monthly data allotment will be charged $10 per 1 GB of overage. Charges will appear on customers' monthly wireless statements.
· Prepaid: $14.99 for 250 MB or $25 for 2 GB. Customers on the 2 GB plan who exceed their monthly data allotment may choose to purchase an additional 2 GB for $25. Charges will appear on customers' credit card statements.
Both options are month-to-month and do not require a long-term commitment.

Anyone check out either Simple Mobile and or H2O?
both are GSM networks, prepaid. Simple Mobile uses the Tmobile Network and has unlimited plans, H2O is on AT&T but not unlimited as of yet...

Okay.
I moved my family to a new apartment in a new area.
Wifi isn't up yet, and I've been trying to get all of our business conducted by means of a WiFi Hotspot on my Droid X.
We were past the 2 GB threshold 36 hours into the billing cycle, and I suspect we're being subjected to Verizon's Network Optimization 'feature'.
I suspect this because we will intermittently become unable to use the Internet when we're hanging out at the local cafe working, or at the apartment working. (We can't use the wifi provided freely at the cafe due to restriction imposed by a certain vendor we do business with.)
Is there any way that I can tell that I am, for certain, being effected by Network Optimization instead of just bad luck or oddities of the building/weather/etc?
from http://support.verizonwireless.com/information/data_disclosure.html
How do I know if I will be impacted by Network Optimization?
A good rule of thumb as of September 2011 is this: If you’re on an unlimited data plan, have a 3G device and are using more than 2 GB of data in a month, you’re in the top 5% of data users and will be impacted by Network Optimization when you’re connected to congested 3G cell sites.
Starting at the end of August 2011, if you are on an unlimited plan, are a high data user and had a contract prior to February 3, 2011, we’ll notify you through bill messages and on your My Verizon account if you may be affected.

While I appreciate your digging that up for me, it wasn't what I was looking for.
I want to know *when* I'm on what VZW considers a congested site, and as such am being 'throttled'.
Will it make me half as fast, or will it push me down to 5K ?
I know that I'm a data hog, per their definition.
you are not going to get more detail than that.
Because this process is in place to ensure the best service to our customers, the speed will vary at any given time. It will depend on how many users are on the same site at that time and what data applications are being used on that site at that time.
Click to collapse
Is there a way I can tell which cell sites are congested?
There is no way for you to easily determine that today. There are many variables that can contribute to a cell site being congested including, but not limited to, the number of active users and the type of applications being used on that site. While we work to ensure we have the most reliable network for every location, these variables combined with other environmental factors determine whether or not a particular cell site reaches the limits of its capacity and becomes congested at any particular time.

Okay.
I was hoping the community had experience with how slow "throttled" was, but all I can find is a thread or two on other forums where it seems like the throttling in question is still faster than I'm getting when things go sideways.
I have multiple incidents per day where I lose the ability to connect outbound from my laptop.
Based on readings on other forums, people who are throttled may be unable to stream video nicely, but continue to be able to at least browse text-based websites and run traceroutes.
So... I'm either sitting in bad locations or have a problem with my phone.

I'm on the grandfathered unlimited data plan.
I received an email from Verizon this week, and it looks like the end is near !!
I use my Verizon Note 3 daily for the hotspot that I have from Foxfi, on the road and at home, and have been doing so for close to10 years.
What options do I have? Does Foxfi work on any newer phones? Please help !!
Time is running out. Take action - upgrade your device now.Our 3G network is shutting down. One or more of your devices will stop working starting the day before your December 2022 bill cycle begins. We’re here to help.
In order to make way for more advanced and reliable cellular services, older 3G networks are being decommissioned by U.S. wireless carriers. At Verizon, our 3G network will be shut down by no later than December 31, 2022.Starting the day before your December 2022 bill cycle begins, if you are a Verizon customer using a 3G CDMA or 4G phone device that does not support our newer network technologies, your line will be suspended without billing and will lose the ability to call, text, or use data. Until January 1, 2023, impacted phones will still be able to make 911 emergency calls and calls to Verizon Customer Service at *611 or 1-800-922-0204, while the line is suspended. Impacted 3G (CDMA) and 4G Non-VoLTE phones will remain suspended without billing until February 2023. Starting the day before your February 2023 bill cycle begins, any remaining impacted lines that are still suspended without billing will be disconnected. We don't want to see your service disrupted. We have many options to keep you connected, including free phones. Here are the devices on your account that will no longer function starting the day before your December 2022 bill cycle begins. The bill cycle is reflected as the statement ending date at the top of the bill.

As far as I understood your post, you need a hotspot with a SIM card from Verizon. Newer phones have their own hotspot and don't need a WiFi Tether app. When you buy a newer phone, your carrier should replace the SIM card to support the newer communication systems.

But the hotspot fee Verizon charges is $30 a month extra. That was the beauty of Foxfi, it was a tethering app to utilize your phones unlimited data for free.

I don't know what kind of impediments Verizon applies to phones sold on its network. But does that mean you can't use a SIM card from Verizon in a phone bought outside a Verizon store?
