Hi All, I received my GT-I9505 two days ago and have been taking my time trying to set it up ahead of relegating my old S2 to the sidelines. I'm having considerable trouble however with my work Exchange account, and with the Network Unlock Guide from this site. I was hoping to presume for some advice as I'm getting frustrated with my inability to get it working.
- Regarding Exchange. Work uses an SSL certificate that usually prompts most devices that there's something wrong with it, but "accepting all certificates" in the past sorted that. I've no such option on the S4 however, instead I just hit "Continue" when it prompts the error. I've entered the server and domain/login details correctly. It finds the server and the account is in the Email client and under "Settings" -> "Accounts". I worked out how to turn "Master Sync" on but still nothing happens. I'm not getting any popups as I might expect ("Activate device administrator?"). The "Folder Sync Settings" under the account is also empty. If I manually hit Sync it looks like it's synching for a fraction of a second but nothing happens. Trying to display "Show all folders" in the client results in a "Loading" icon with spinny circle indefinitely.
- Regarding unlocking. The guide on this site, and numerous others, explains how to go into Service Mode, enter UMTS Debug Menu and set SHA256 Off before Restoring NV something. I've followed the guide(s) a few times with no luck. Only thing I can think of is that I'm not entering service mode correctly. Screenshots suggest that on the info screen it should display "Service: Available", but even though I open Menu -> Key Input and enter "1", it remains "Service: Limited". When hitting the SH256 off, it says "Unchanged" and [0]. I've tried with an Invalid/locked SIM card and no SIM card, but not with a valid one.
With my sincerest thanks in advance for any help. I've spent ages on it now and I'm getting annoyed with the brand new phone that isn't playing ball.
I'm wondering now if the exchange synch issue is server-side. I'm almost positive that there should be a security "Activation?" pop-up which needs to be accepted, only I'm not getting it.
Two other pieces of possibly relevant information. I'm a domain administrator at work and our Exchange server has a self signed SSL certificate. I'm still googling without luck after 2 days. Any tips or advice would be most welcome.
I have also tried the Service Mode unlock method using a valid, working SIM card, also with no luck.
Still hoping for some advice on this, if any is to be had. Another bit of information which may or may not be useful, the mail server is running Exchange 2010.

Hey,
Since finding this site a few days ago and using the unlocker tool, the forums have proven to be a very useful source of answers to most of the questions I've come up with. I've got a few questions that I haven't been able to thus far find answers for, maybe someone can answer them...
1. O2 (UK)'s GPRS PAYG service: Trying to get the settings from the O2 web site (from various phones), it suggests that I use the following settings:
Access Point Name: payandgo.o2.co.uk
username: payandgo uk (I presume the 'uk' bit is meant to be included)
password: password
IP address: 193.113.200.195
However, whenever I try to connect, it tries twice and then gives an unable to connect for unknown reason error. I used to have random trouble connecting to GPRS on my old Nokia 3300, so the first few times, I just put it down to chance whether I'd get onto it or not, but after trying many times this week, I still can't get on it.
I can't see any info on O2's site other than which settings to use, and they don't seem to be working. Any ideas/suggestions/additional settings?
2. Secondly, I've been using Windows Media Player to play MP3s - thankfully I found through searching that you can turn off the screen! About 2-3 hours of playback before a recharge seemed awful!
Anyway, my question is: Is there a way to override the master phone volume setting for MP3 playback? Perhaps 3rd party software would allow this? I don't like the idea that I have to turn the master volume up in order to hear songs -- thus turning up all the other sounds (beeps, application alerts, etc). I know that you can disable beeps and stuff, and I have done, but if I put the volume onto 'vibrate', I can't have sound playback.
I have another question but it's slipped my mind for now, so I'll post that at another point. Thanks in advance also.

I don't think the 'uk' should be in the username.
Username should be payandgo.
That was my first assumption, and I've already tried it. I wish the solution was that simple
Take a look here - it has the different settings dependant on GPRS WAP or GPRS Email/Web: http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html
Hmm, thanks for the link, kind of helpful... I just discovered that specifying the IP was wrong. My assumption was that the specify IP box was for the gateway as suggested in the settings on that site, but obviously it was for my own IP. I removed the specific IP and set it to obtain one automatically and now it works...
Hmm(2), on closer inspection, it connects now, but I don't seem to be able to access anything...
OK. Good
Another question
Oh yeah, I remember one of my other questions now...
Is there any way to stop the phone dialling window from popping up every time I send an SMS message? As soon as I get a confirmation service reply from O2, the dialer window pops up.
Any particular recommendations on a WiFi SD card? Is it true that the one with built-in 256MB storage is NOT compatible?

On the second point, I can confirm that it is not compatible. The WIFI only option should be OK though. You might want to look at this thread for more information.
ANOTHER question
I'm a bit narked. I took the sim outa my SPV to put into an older phone to take to a gig with me (not worth risking such a fine peice of kit!), when I got home, and put the SIM back in, ALL MY DATA HAD GONE !
I've put it down to experience now, and started fresh from scratch , I guess my fault was not enabling flight mode before I removed the SIM? I didn't get a full re-install as if it were hard reset, just EVERYTHING (pictures, files, notes, appointments) had all gone!
In a panic, I tried the permanent save/restore feature (which sadly, I hadn't already used), and annoyingly, it restored the previous owners info! I managed to clear out his contact list, tasks and owner info, as well as putting my own personal settings back, and even though I've manually trapsed through the calender removing appointments, occasionally, I'm getting reminders for appointments that don't seem to be in the calendar!
So, my next question... is there a way to clear the whole calendar in one go? Or, is there a way to make these seemingly invisible entries to show up or get a list of them? I've tried all the calendar views and I've gone back as far as 2002 on the calendar looking for entries...
OK HTC guru's.
I have finally recieved my Dopod 838 Pro after a very long wait. I have searched the forum (flame suit on) but still have a few questions which are niggling me.
Ok, first off should be the most simple. How do I instal skins? I feel so stupid here. I see that they are usually .tsk files, but where do I place them so I can find them in the Today menu?
Second, when I first started my PDA I had to do a setup, this asked me if I wanted a Pin or Password set. I skipped it (eager to get to the phone part), but now I can work out how to put it on. I have found under "lock" in the Personal Settings that you can set the pin or password, but it only allows me for set this to restore after a period of inactivity. How do I make it work after power on?
Third, email. My carrier (3 Mobile Australia) has an unlimited email pack which I have subscribed to which uses 3MMS settings. I have set it up and it sends and recieves beautifully using those settings. Except, that to send emails, I have to manually press send/recieve to clear the outbox. I have set the check for new incomming mail every minute, so it finds these ok (subject to problem 4 below), but outgoing mail is annoying. Any tips/hints?
Fourth, activesync/email. OK, now when the phone is not connected to my PC via activesync, the check for email every minute downloads any email perfectly. When I press the send/receive button, it clears my outbox perfectly. However, if the phone is connected to the PC by the activesync, I get a cannot connect or modem disabled error. This only happens if I try to use the email while connected to activesync. Any comments, better still, any solutions.
Cheers

Hey Fellow Aussie,
Im also on the 3 network but I am using a JASJAM. Im still having MMS problems (cannot receive them proprely).
Anyways, to answer some of your questions:
1. How do I instal skins? - put them (tsk's) in your My Documents folder or in the root of your microsd card. They should show up under the menu after that.
2. Pin or Password set - not sure how to do that after the PDA has been set up. I actually did a hard reset when I realised I couldnt find the option.
3. Email - I also use the $3 month unlimited sen/receive with 3email. I actually forward my corporate emails to my 3 email inbox, which I then download to my phone. When I send an email from my phone, the return address is my corporate email. Much cheaper than using data traffic with 3netaccess UMTS.
--- to answer your question about send/receive, the email wont get send out until a send/recevei has occured. If you have the option for auto-send receive (ive got mine set to 1 minute) then dont worry about it. After you write the email, it will be sent out shortly after that.
4. activesync/email - In MS Activesyn on your pc, you have to enable the "allow wireless connection on device when connected to desktop". This is avaialbe in the connection settings of MS activesync on your desktop. Ensure you are not connected to your PDA when you do this (as the option will not be available).
I hope this helps,.
Now do you have a few moments to help me out - specifically to 3 carrier settings. I have tried to do them manually but i havent managed to set it up 100%.
I have checked the extended ROMS on the wiki but they are generic ext.roms which do not have the 3 carrier settings. I know for a fact that 3 Australia tweak the shipped ext.rom to include set up files for their network.
Can you please copy all your files from you extended rom and email them to me. my email is [email protected].
if you havent unlocked/mounted your extended ROM you can do this with the fit4cat tweaker software. This software is available on the wiki I beleive. Or just use the extended ROM unlocker that is posted on the STICKY thread in this forum.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Regarding Cingular (ATT) 8500, BES and proportioned SIM for Blackberry Service
In the past I was able to get Blackberry connect to work on the Elf 2.1 ROM. I removed it while using ActiveSyc for mail but due to corporate mandate we must use BB's rather than WM (BB Connect is acceptable). When I went to reinstall...no go. I've tried the Elf 2.1 ROM and Black X beta 2 and run into the same problem over and over again. Currently I have installed Black X beta 2. A search of the forums and google have lead me nowhere thus a post.
I'm installing Blackberry Connect (BBC) 4.0.0.90 via a cab file on my device. I then connect to the Desktop BBC 4.0.0.17 and configure the wirless handset successfully. When I go back to the device the Services tab is populated with six entries. theEmail Settins shows my email and allows me to "Go to Settings". The Identity tab shows my PIN, IMEI but no IP Address( No Connection). Under the Status tab's Service I can get it to show "Network Available" but after a few minutes it will go back to "Suspended by User".
I've used BandSwitch & CommMngPro to set the band to GSM (no 3G) and this has not worked either.
Additional, I've ensured that all apps are closed (included activesync) with no result. I've even go as far as to hard reset and only install BBC to ensure nothing is stepping on BBC.
I can not remember if "Blackberry" should show up under WM's Network Management. If it does, I'm not seeing it despite repeated installs. Further more, I do see the device trying to connect to "Blackberry" but this only show up in the alert bubble. I can find it listed (grayed out) in the Options tab of the BBC Settings.
So far for all my trouble the best I can get is a system tray icon of "B!"
Any ideas? Do I need to manual install the APN settings?
Thanks for taking the time to read.
CMD
Hi all, I am new using this kind of phone(got it as gift from my wife). Since I am new to this technical stuff, I might(?am) sound daft.
I am having problem setting/using mail account. I am in the UK. The phone was bought from a private dealer(mobilephonesdirect) on a T mobile contract. Has internet access.
I set up new mail account as per instructions (not outlook--never used it). I tried Google mail, Yahoomail etc.
But when i go to mail tab, all accounts say "no mail".
When i create new mail and tap send i get the message "cannot connect with current connection settings. To change connection settings, tap settings". I tried, but dont know what to do.
I called Mobilephonesdirect, they asked me to get settings from T-mobile.
T.mobile said the settings are fine, especially since I am able to use and browse the internet.
Called HTC, but no help apart from suggesting to download the update.
Hope I am making my problem clear here.
Really appreciate your help.
You probably need to disable the proxy that was automatically setup by the phone. I can't check my own phone just now (also on UK tmobile), but it should be in start -> settings -> connections somewhere.
Hope that helps.
Hey guys, got a fun one for yaz.
So we have three HTC HD2's in our IT department here, but aside from me the other two guys are hessitant to flash their roms, understandable I guess, but I need to find an activesync solution for them so that they can use the exchange server here.
They are both stock telstra phones, on telstra plans.
Step 1
GPRS connection re-created (telstra.internet) with proxy de-selected
Step2
Configure activesync, install the cert from the server so as to avoid cert issues. (self generated cert)
Step3
failure
Now this same server and same user works fine with a Touch Pro2 from Telstra, with the same steps taken above, so I know the server is fine, or at least functional.
The problem with the HD2 with the Telstra ROM on it that I am having is on the last page of the server configuration for activesync where you go into advanced, under "Connection:" it says Dedicated, and if I change that to INTERNET, then save, it reverts back to dedicated again and again... how can I get it to stay on INTERNET (damn you telstra)
I have a feeling this may be a conspiracy to foce you to buy their email package... but yeah, I hope this can be worked around.
Shot in the dark, but poke around the registry and change it there?
There are HEAPS of posts re this .... so dont feel bad, you are not alone!!

OK. Found the solution to outlook exchange mail/calender not working.
When it is connected to WMDC you still cant get to all the settings, nor can you get to them from the mail setup ..... Grrr.
Go to MAIL tab, hit the bottom button for "Inbox" to go to std mail acct. Then select your outlook exch. mail from the dropdown at the top (using the "old" WM6 type interface).
MENU>> Tools (hidden off bottom of screen ) > Options .
Then select outlook mail , "Next" "Next" til the "server settings" screen which lets you select mail & calender etc. BUT ! In the "Menu" button there appears an "advanced" tab Select this & voila! The old "if there is a conflict" appears as well as "Connection". The lovely standard config utility has conveniently left this BLANK (for gods sake, how was it going to work with NO connection?). Then you can select "Dedicated" or "Internet" Select "Internet" & it works.... It does warn you that you may incur data charges as you are using an "internet" connection" rather than the "email" allowance your plan includes , but at least it works FFS.
Surely Telstra should have had one of these things running exchange server during testing. This should not be missed. Configuring something this simple should not really require digging thru the 300 pg manual (which doesnt really help anyway ? )QUOTE]
I also have the "This Network connect to the Internet" check box selected and a proxy server of 10.1.1.181.
It did work for me after 2 hours on the phone to Telstra ... and then I got sick of none of the apps tab or social tab working over wifi and generally the Telstra bloatware was annoying me, so I flashed a cooked ROM and am MUCH happier!!!
