I have returned a Sony Xperia Z and now the second Galaxy S4 due to screen problems. The Xperia had stuck pixels, the first S4 had dirt under the glass, the second one had a light spot which showed mostly on a grey screen but was visible on every colour. What surprised me was that the phones I returned ended up on the shelf (behind glass) with a full price label... My returned S4 boxes had broken tamper proof labels so I am not sure how they can sell them at full price, but the Xperia box does not have tamper proof labels at all.
i think they all end up sold as refurbished devices
Its all about The quality Control (QC) which is under 90% where they are manufacturing the device, in a simple way they will let it go even they know the device has some issues.
QC in Japan average 97%
QC in USA average 95% ( I saw QC about 98% and for the army about 99%)
China it depends may be under 90%
I'm not saying China is bad, actually Foxcon doing good job with apple.
For me I'm not happy with my s4 display. I have issues with the red color icons while swiping the app drawer and the black color while watch in movies in low brightness. I checked alot of devices and they are the same. I hope its not hardware rev. issues. I hope I see software update soon. May be I go back to s3 ? Lol Idk.

My point was that what I returned was put straight back on the shelf at full price. It is not being sent back for refurbishment and it is not sold for a lower price.

Hi! I bought my GS2 with Docomo the day it was launched and I have been enjoying it. One little problem, after using the Widget Locker application, I noticed a round circle near the lower right side of the screen, excactle the same shape and position as one of the circular shortcut from Wideget Locker. I uninstalled and waited a few days but it was still there, although barely visible. I went to the docomo shop the other day and the lady was as surprised as embarrassed and even checked her own GS2 to look for screen burns. Interestingly enough the demonstration model has a permanent screen burn of the dock bar (probably since the screen is always turned on).
After looking for similar issues on the forums, I found a thread about light blobs. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1197743.
Anyway, they agreed to change it for free. I went there and obviously very carefully looked for any screen defect. Only after removing the screen protective sheet did I notice the blue tint. Comparing it to the GS2 I had just returned, the new handset white was clearly tinted blue.
Will the tint go away after a bit, or is it a long lasting manufacturing defect?
The store agreed to change it once they receive a new stock of GS2 next week.
Is it possible that this specific store has received an unusually high ratio of handsets with defects? After all, what are the chances of me getting two faulty devices in a row...
Hi Guys,
I hope this thread can serve as a venue for the owners of a 7.7 in the Philippines.
I just got mine yesterday from Fortress, Hong Kong. 16GB WiFi only device, but thats exactly what I was looking for since having another device with unlimited internet would be redundant. No issues so far, although I still need to get used to TW and HC. I love the screen and, so far, the battery life is wonderful with being on for 9 hours and 30 min and 2 hours screen-on time and WiFi always on netting me with 74% more battery to use up. Amazing for Android, if you ask me!
Thats cool bro. Large LCD with amoled plus...

Waiting for this to arrive on the Philippines market that comes from Samsung, warranty matters a lot.
I hope the screens they used on the Tab 7.7 dont have the common SAMOLED issues.
just got mine a while ago still charging it to full before using it
@earlz
there are sellers in tipidcp with samsung warranty already be sure to check for the ntc logo at the back got mine for 30.5k with 1 year samsung warranty

Im located in Cebu City, so buying from them is not an option since I cannot see the examine the screen first hand.. Samsung has been giving us shoddy quality control lately and I had my Galaxy S2 refunded after 7 replacements due to the yellow tint and other screen issues, my Galaxy Note is also in refund process. I understand that my standards where set high with the first SAMOLED device (S8500 and Galaxy S1) that never had issues so I expect nothing less than flawless for a 30K+ device.
EDIT:
The prices you see in malls are they official samsung retailers or import units ?
I was told that the purchase includes international warranty. Even Asus was adapting this policy. In any case, I have not noticed any light bleeding, yellow tint or dead pixels, but ill continue to observe.
Usage so far: 16 hours, 5 hour screen on, WiFi on the entire time with full sync and I'm at 30% . I'm charging now, but it has exceeded my expectations when it comes to battery life.
Just for the sake of comparison, I got the tab under 24k.

Samsung Philippines does not honor international warranty, I verified that with the supervisor from the an authorized service center just yesterday unless she didnt get the memo yet. But if they do honor it its great.

As long as you send them your defective device they will honor the warranty but if you send it through an Asus store they wont accept it.

Well SAMOLED has no backlight bleeding but it has spots/blotches when displaying a black image visible in dark rooms.
Im concerned if there are any visible horizontal or vertical lines when rendering greys, this seems to be common with the Galaxy Nexus and Note, rare on the S2, none on the Galaxy S1.
Can you try these images for me on your tap? and where did you get it for 24k?
The last 2 pictures I attached his how the jedi image looks like on my galaxy note.. visible lines and greenish greys.. the last picture is a snapshop of my greys.. I've the jedi image and the grey images on a Galaxy S2, no lines what so ever even if I squint my eyes and look for it.
I tried the images and the greys remain grey. They do look like etchings on a circuit board, but i assume that the image is supposed to be like that. The jedi i!age is light green but not as flauresent as the one you attaced from your note. I also tried blck in a dark room and i dont see yellow anywhere. Ill keep checking just to make sure it stays that way. Thanks for the tips!
About the price; i bought the device from HK, Fortess at central to be exact, but its available everywhere at the same price. There are no deviation from srp from any major retailor be it fortress or broadway. There are grey unit stores, however, i suggest you stay away from them. Actual price is 4088 HK and it translates 23k and change.

For the dark room test you need to display a black image, have you eyes adjust from the darkness to about 5mins then see if you get a uniform faint glow on the blacks or if there any darker or whiter spots.
The grey image is just a solid color there should be no lines or etchings, it should be the same on what you see on a computer monitor.. just a solid block of grey. This is an important factor for me.
I initially thought you purchased the Tab here in the Philippines, I thought its already in the market. The jedi image is supposed to be grey if you look at it on a Galaxy S1, Galaxy S2, Iphone4, Nokia 5800 and probably all of the other display devices.. That image is my ultimate test for screen quality but its not a deal breaker, as long as there are no visible lines and screen brightness is even then its all good.
Thanks for taking the time to perform the tests for me, at least I have an idea what to expect.. I'll just have to wait when the unit arrives here in the Philippines but for now based on your grey test the screen already fails for me
One more thing, aside from the memory capacity variants is there a wifi only version for this ?
The greys are gray, but I must say there are slight degrees of grey.
The unit I have is WiFi only.
You mean that the shade of grey is not uniform on the enitre screen?
The etchings I was describing is due to slight changes in grey. Very subtle, but I can see it. Then again, I once thought a grey shirt was green.
Oh, and I tried the image on my dhd and I don't see the shade difference. Must be the 7.7 then.
Thanks for the feedback at least I know what to expect.
CMK has it on stock, 29K for the 16GB 3G model.
That's not bad! Go get them, people!
I'll wait for the local dealer to have it on stocks, if CMK has then the local samsung store should have it with in the same week, Also im a bit disappointed that the grey rendering is not perfect, the Galaxy S2 did it perfectly on some units.. I'll just have to be ultra picky with my purchase
Ive attached a sceenshot of the gray image for you to check out. I hope it will help you make a decision.

A screenshot wont help its basically resending me the file, If you can take a steady shot photo in a dark room, that should give me a glimps of what you see.
I'm too lazy to bring out the dslr now, but maybe tomorrow

Bought a Note yesterday from phones4u, had to go through 4 of them before I found one without any dead pixels on. Just summat for prospective buyers to look out for, check the screens before you leave the store. Well worth it though, awesome phone
Just FYI, in the UK, if an item developed fault within 21 days after purchase, the customer can demand either a full refund or exchange.
I'm not sure if full refund works on contract phone, but customer have the right to exchange a faulty phone for a new one from the store within 21 days.
P.S. Enjoy your Note, I had my since Nov and still loving it. This come from someone who change phones every 3 to 5 months.
Yup, well the one I got now is perfect, I reckon they must of had a dodgy batch as this was apparently the first one of a different consignment.

Try going into a dark room and put a full black background and see if you notice any dark splotches. There are some Android wallpaper like No background I believe. This is a common problem with SAMOLED HD devices from what I've read. Don't know if you can get a replacement for that.
EDIT: Oh yes, what Note did you get Ceramic White or Dark Blue?
No, that is somewhat of a feature of Amoled displays, however, it's a damn sight better a display than the one on the galaxy nexus. I had one of those before this and I'm reasonably impressed with this one.
Oh! I got the blue one

I also went through 3 with handtec....all with dead pixels...
5 days into ownership....dead pixels
What does a dead pixel look like? I get mine soon also and never owned a AMOLED screen before.
I have had a single dead pixel since it arrived 5 weeks ago (white 16GB). But I don't care much because the pixels of the Note are so small that I don't notice it 99% of the time even though it's on a rather central position. Only rarely when I watch movies that make the screen go very bright for a while I happen to see it without searching for it. But it never bothered me when browsing the net or reading mail although I can see it on a white background when I look out for it and know where it is. I have had a SGS I for ~20 months before which didn't have any dead pixels.
Hopefully my white Note doesn't develop any dead pixels like my GS2 had before after a few months.
My brother just got his new s2 a day after mine. i noticed that when i put his s2 at the lowest brightness and mine too, if we put them side to side, his has a blue like tint while mine has a whiter brownesh tint. Same kernel and firmware. is that nornal? Is his screen in better health than mine?
Please post a picture

No need i just confirmed uts an issue with the screen. Landscape mode i can see that were the status bar is the colors are exactly like my brothers phone. its weird because both of our phones are brandnew.
I guess i have to ship mine back..
My status bar has also a blue tint. I can only see it in landscape mode because the status bar is black. And when I post a screenshot of my screen you dont see it.

Same screen adjustment settings (movie, standard, dynamic, natural) ?
sometimes I get this on other phones if they have different screen protectors or the other one has one but the other doesn't, so ugh you guys surely didn't buy any right?
This is AMOLED 'feature'.
It is normal for two AMOLED screens to look very different on same phones and same settings however status bar having a blue tint is a typical sign of AMOLED degradation. This is why the stock grey notification bar is better than black that people usually use. If you bought your S2 as brand new, I'd ship it back. It has obviously been used if screen degradation is already present.
Funny thing is that the seller is claiming that the phone has never been used. I bought of on eBay and won the auction for $220 on the phone. They claim that all phones they sell are brand new and unsused. I noticed though that they don't ship it in an original galaxy s2 box but rather a box that just says Samsung on the front. They are going to be sending me a replacement soon.

I would not trust this seller!
Demand a sealed box with hologram from Samsung.
Happens with AMOLEDs. Due to the different rates of degradation of the organic material on different phones due to different usage.
P.S. Thread name "wow i just noticed this" is not helpful man. Not helpful. Please change.
I can't now since I returned the phone only. But would it be normal if it just had normal yellow tint anywhere on the screen?
Many S2s have a slightly warmer left side of the screen. And most look yellow overall but that's about it I think. Enter *#0*# in the dialer and choose blue background. If you can see the screen is more vivid in the notification bar area and/or you can see outlines of on screen objects and such then the phone is definitely not new and has been used.
Hi guys I bought a Motorola X Style on Amazon (european version) white 32 GB and I noticed some light bleeding on the bottom righe corner of the phone ( only with black screen and maximum brightness).
I know that this is a typical problem of LCD screen but I don't know if is better to change the phone or not. During normal use this phenomenon is not visibile.
Thanks
I have a blob of light bleed on the bottom left side. I also got mine from Amazon. Seems to be typical with this device. I only see it on black screens. I considered returning but since there is still more demand than supply and it took me three weeks to get this one, I think I'll just live with it.
Mine is the same from Amazon. I may address it at some point but right now too much is right with the phone and their supply is too low.
OK if this "problem" is common to a large part of Moto X Style, i think that is better to keep with us our phones....the new ones should be worst
Mine not only has light bleed but a defective display. There is a light spot in the upper right quadrant. Seems that Motorola(Lenovo), has decided to use very cheap display panels. I guess that is how they can charge the price that they do. Also manufactured in China now, which reeks of poor quality control. Very sad for a once awesome piece of hardware. Next thing you know the radios in these phones will be subpar, which would really be a shame with the Motorola name attached to it. I am a little disappointed in this. I was very excited about this phone and now I am bummed. I am getting a replacement but if to is bad with lots of light bleed, I might have to send it back and take a pass on the Moto X Pure. If the display is this bad, it worries me that the rest of the device will be a piece of garbage in time as well. I want to unlock and root but I have pause as I am worried about premature failure and Moto blaming me for it. We will see.
