Help repairing word document - Windows 8 General

I was on windows 8.1 then tried to downgrade to 8 and worked but caused problems. I tried to do a refresh but couldn't access the feature due to the caused problems. I somehow restored the computer back to it's original windows 7 but lost all my data.
A word document which I really need was recovered using some software but is corrupted. I have tried some many ways but nothing. What can I do to repair it? I can post a link with the file if you need me to.

What can we do?
Nothing. Chances are its irrepairably broken. This is why you make backups and make sure the backups are not on the same system as the originals.

Can't backup my phone? Confused.

Hey guys. So I have unlocked and rooted my Nexus 7 using the root toolkit. All is well, have been running rooted apps etc. I have bought and installed ROM Toolbox Pro in order to backup my tablet (among other things), but it will not allow me to do this. When I go to make a backup of the current ROM (it is stock 4.1.1, unlocked and rooted), I get a warning that states "We failed to connect to ROM Manager".
Seems like I need ClockWorkMod Recovery installed? How do I go about putting this on the tablet? I don't need to start from scratch, i.e. unlocking and rooting all over again do I?
Sorry if this seems like a stupid question. I always managed to install custom ROMs on my Desire HD, I'm just a bit stuck here.
Also, when I persisted with the backup, disregarding the error message, the boot screen was a little dead Android with a red exclamation mark. Holding power button down allowed me to reboot the unit though.
Thanks
EDIT: Just found this guide, which, in the instructions, says to unlock and root first THEN proceed to install CWM. Would I be right to follow this guide?

.....thanks a lot. I searched the entire Nexus 7 forums and couldn't find anything, didn't realise it would be so simple!
No worries, often it is easier to search development forums just by scanning the titles!

Hmm I must have done something wrong. Installed CWM Recovery, tried to use ROM Manager to create a backup, it gets like 90% through then says there was an error backing up data. Now when I reboot I'm told that I'm running out of storage space? Before, I had like 2gb free, now 153mb? Have found where the backup files were saved, only ~20mb so that can't be it. Hahah this is neverending

You need to free up more space before you make your backup. Delete the backup folder AND the blobs folder. CWR now uses blobs folder for differential backups.

Is root retained after N7 Factory Reset?

My Q is as above
I am struggling with the lag issue, so would like to reset, and cannot find a definitive answer for the above.
Also, will Titanium backups be preserved on the pseudo-SD folder?
Thanks for any answers, it isn't easy to carry out a proper search of the forum on the XDA mobile app.

All a factory reset does is wipe Data/Cache, Root is located in the System, so it will stay rooted..... As for backups, same idea, Obviously with a lack of external SD card support, the SD folders act as "external" source of sorts and will stay untouched during a wipe. Keep in mind when you rooted you had to unlock the BL = wiping everything and your SD information would still have been there.
As an extra note, I had lag problems as well... I found that generally it was applications that were causing the problem and I didn't require a wipe to fix it. (My biggest of few issues was a rotation application for the home screen). Could be slight compatibility issues with JB, unsure. Good luck

New android ID afer 4.3 update

Has anyone else experienced their android ID changing after upgrading to 4.3? After upgrading, I opened Titanium Backup and it said that my Android ID had changed and asked to restore it. I'm back on 4.2.2 now but on any 4.3 rom it changes it. Should I just keep the new one or stick with the old one?
There are issues with titanium backup and 4.3 now. If you change the backup path to legacy or something you can update apps fine and won't get that error message. However it appears you still can not remove system apps.

My query is nothing to do with the actual titanium backup app but rather my android device ID
Oh well, when I tried to update some apps before changing the file path they failed to install. And when I rebooted android said that I had a different ID and the apps would not install properly until I did a factory reset. But after changing the path everything updated fine. That's all I know.

Android 4.3 isn't changing any ID on your phone, there are issues with Titanium Backup and 4.3 and the app needs to be updated and its a known issue, well at least if you read any of the countless tech sites.
Regardless of what the above poster is saying, this isn't a bug with Titanium Backup. You probably reset your ID when you did a factory reset.
Some apps use the ID to identify the device. Though, you probably might not use any of those apps. You can change it back to the old one or keep the new one. It shouldn't matter. If a specific app gives you problems because you paid for it and it will only activate on the old ID, or something along those lines, then go ahead and change it back.
Personally, I always change it back because I like to stay with the same ID.

Should have mentioned that I did a factory reset when I first switched to 4.3. The only app that I am concerned about is my titanium backup pro licence although it should be fine if I just keep the new one. Thanks for the reply
I chose to change it back to the original id. It just makes more sense to me. I had noticed with my previous phone that changing it would cause my phone to be listed more than once on the Play Store site.

Some questions about EFS

Hello I'm new to Samsung phones after many Sony phones and making the jump from Sony to Samsung come with a lot of new flashing tools and methods and as I'm sure you know when making the switch to from any phone new things can be quite confusing.
So I have a few questions about some things and after googling around found no straight answer to my queries and thought some people with a lot of knowledge of Samsung phones would be able to help me out
1. Should I backup the efs before every rom installation or is doing it once enough
2. How likely is it that the efs folder/partition become corrupted
3. When backing up it said one file missing is that because it gives you three different backups to restore 3 different ways?
4. If I ever had to restore it would I have to be on the same firmware I was on when I backed it up or does it have nothing to do with the firmware?
5. Would copying the efs folder to a backup location then moving back if it ever gets wiped work?
Thanks you I know some of the questions may be relatively simple to some of you but to me not so coming from a long line of Sony phones
P.s I'm not regretting making the jump love my note 3

Once is enough, unless you want redundancy for some reason. As long as you have one good copy, you can restore EFS if it ever gets corrupted.
2. How likely is it that the efs folder/partition become corrupted
Not very likely. It's never happened to me personally. The point is that it can become corrupted, so at least one good backup is recommended.
3. When backing up it said one file missing is that because it gives you three different backups to restore 3 different ways?
How are you backing up your EFS?
4. If I ever had to restore it would I have to be on the same firmware I was on when I backed it up or does it have nothing to do with the firmware?
EFS contains phone-specific information like IMEI, so should not normally be dependent on which ROM you're on.
5. Would copying the efs folder to a backup location then moving back if it ever gets wiped work?
I would recommend keeping a few copies around. Copying the backup to a computer in case you need it later is OK.
Thank you very much for your answers =)

Is It Possible to Backup Files When Phone Doesn't Boot?

Hello,
I literally installed the Facebook app from Google Play on my Nexus 4 hours ago and then my phone literally went blank. Eventually my phone was turned off as there was no more battery. I charged it and powered it but it no longer boots (it has been stuck at the X screen for hours). Is it possible to backup my files despite this so I can try to reinstall a custom ROM/unroot my Nexus 4?
I spent some time searching the forums and couldn't find the answer, so any response would be helpful and appreciated. Thanks.
One of the suggestions here might help you as well:

Maybe, it depends if you can boot into recovery and have a custom recovery

I can. I am running on TWRP v2.3.2.3 but I don't think I can access the files through ADB as I did not set it to Development Mode (ever). It seems I can actually back it up through TWRP, but my concern is I don't know how to extract it out of my phone because once I reinstall JB everything will be wiped right?
Once I reinstall a JB version that means everything will be erased. Does anyone how to keep that backup from TWRP if you can't take it out from your phone? It appears my version doesn't seem to have Nandroid.
Also, does anyone know if it's "System" that stores all the contacts/text messages?
I want to backup my Data folder too but I only have 900mb free space left on my phone (I have the 8gb version) and my Data file is about 1.5gb. I don't remember if I have anything valuable in my Data file that I need to recover, so just to be sure, does anyone know if I can explore my "Data" folder to remove content to make it smaller so I can back it up? Thanks.
ADB via recovery should be the way to go then.
Did you try something as an ADB file manager?
See: https://github.com/sole/aafm for example.
This should allow you to copy the files to your PC without having to backing them up first on the device itself.
An alternative way would be to connect to the (ADB) shell, delete some useless files.. like music and stuff you already have (or package music as one archive - download - delete) etc. Till you have enough to package the data directory in one go. If done right the archive should preserve file permissions which is an extra plus I guess.
The way I try to make sure I don't have a problem like this is:
- Letting TitaniumBackup backup all important applications + data every night @ 4 AM when it's charging (while I am sleeping).
- Use FolderSync to sync the new backups to a server I have running. Could also be cloud of course. (Only on Wifi and while charging)
Good luck!
If you can boot into recovery it might be possible to pull data there.
Also, if you know which ROM was installed, you can try just flashing the system partition of respective ROM. It might not fix your issue but might allow you to boot and backup your data prior to completely resetting everything.
I've had something similar once. Tried all kind of solutions via recovery/fastboot/adb and only flashing a clean system image allowed me to recover important data. The phone was unusable still (constant FC's) but it allowed me to establish an adb connection and pull all data I didn't want to lose.

Problem Solved, didn't follow any of the suggestions. Thanks though.
If you can, please do put your solution here so other people with a similar problem can use search and find the solution. Thanks!

To be honest, I actually didn't. I decided to perform a reset and lose my data (and reinstall my ROM) as I didn't have the patience to experiment and figure it out. I just don't have time for that.
