I don't know what happened but at some point in the last few weeks my N7 started being really slow.... Like if I hit a text box the tablet freezes for like 10 seconds till the keyboard pops up, or if I press the home button it takes 5 seconds to respond, or when i turn on the tablet its stuck on thr Google screen for like 15 seconds... I tried switching ROMs and kernels but it doesn't seem to help, the only thing that slightly works is changing the kernel governor to performance but then the battery consumption is drastic and the device freezes a lot and I have to long press power to reset it
Is anyone familiar with this problem or have any ideas for me?

Things start slowing down once you get below 3 gig, it gets real bad when you only have 1.5 gig of space left. No ROM will help that.

My N7 was flawless until some days ago.
Usually to turn on, I had to press the power button for 4s and it would turn on, never ever failed. Also on the boot sequence (the X of nexus), it took relatively low time, even when I had all of my currents apps installed (nothing changed).
For the last days, it's happening that sometimes the device doesn't wake up after pressing the button. I've checked and I have to press it for 20-25s in order to see the "Google" logo and have it start booting.
Also, the nexus "X" boot animation also randomly takes like 4x longer, and it seems to not have any relation with the 20s pressing issue, since it happened me both with the 4s and 20s pressing power-on times.
But both of those issues came together.
Anyone else with the same issue? Would a factory reset solve the problem?
Thank you in advance.

How much memory is free on your N7? I've seen posts from people who have had similar issues when they came close to filling up the memory on their N7.

16 GB model, more than 6GB left.
It has been like that for the last 2 weeks.
It has happened several times caused by various apps such as chrome, play store, dolphin after downloading something. Screen freezes and system eventually resets on it's own. Is anyone else having this problem?
Build: JOP40C
Same here, restarted and frozen 3-4 times in couple of hours.
I was browsing, using apps, dowloading in background, loads of syncing etc - maybe taxing the system causes it? (But i though it should handle it a bit better...)
I had a couple of reboots but no freeze before the firmware update.
After the update it hasn't rebooted but it froze once

I've had exactly what you are saying. I had it three times and haven't had it since. Will update if problem persists.

My keeps loosing Wi-Fi and completely shut down every time I turn it off and didn't turn back on in 5 seconds. Making things worse I have to wait several minutes until it allows me to turn it on by pressing power for a 5 seconds. In those few minutes it does not react on power button at all.
Factory reset did not help. Sadly it looks like I have no options other than return it back.
+1 reboots and freezing. Don't really want to return it since its finally rooted and cust recovery. Anyone think waiting for cust Roms will help?

No need to return the tablet for software issues.... Updates will come quick. That's a Nexus!!!

Mine had been randomly restarting after installing some of my apps. I finally narrowed it down to HD Widgets and haven't had a reboot since uninstalling it.
I am not using HD Widgets and I get restarts periodically. What is the most efficient way to submit a bug report to google.

Just got an RMA for mine for the same issues u guys are experiencing. Wifi disconnecting and chrome freezing and rebooting. Looks like it may not be a hardware issue. Wonder if I should just keep it and wait for an update.
Edit - It was fine before the software update. Probably should ignore it once I get my replacement unit
I am also seeing the reboots happening every 3 to 4 hours like clockwork. I didn't have the device for more than a few minutes before the first update was pushed to it, so I can't say whether or not that was related. I do have HD Widgets installed, so I will pull it off and see if that helps slow the reboots down.
I'm using BootLog Uptime to keep track of the number and frequency of reboots. If this pattern holds, my money is on some kind of memory leak... just thinking from our own development experiences. Given how much higher the resolution is on the N10, I wouldn't count out some graphics heavy apps blowing through their heap much, much faster than on any previous Android device. We'll have to wait and see.
Just called Google and asked for replacement. I hope they aired new updates at the time my replacement arrived.
BTW, I had to initiated factory reset five or six times until it finally clears all data. Never saw Google product so buggy before.
That's a real bummer. Mine doesn't reset or display any of those problems. I have a tiny bit of light bleed in one corner at full brightness and the screen seems to have gotten a little more yellow over time... maybe just the glue drying. If any of you are brave and don't want to return right away, unlock the bootloader and reflash the stock image from google and see if that fixes things. It can help if there was some sort of corruption when you updated.
You may want to wait on that RMA. I had the same trouble with HD widgets installed.
No trouble at all since uninstalling...

I've never even touched hd widgets and have had two lock ups since I got it on Friday. Both occurred when task switching back to chrome and it was loading a previously viewed web page. Both times I was able to tap the power button to shut off the screen but couldn't wake it up. It eventually reset itself. It boots in like 5 seconds so it's not too terrible to wait for a software update, but I wonder what is causing it?
I think Chrome has some major bugs to be squashed when running on this device....mine has only crashed when browsing. That said, after uninstalling HD widgets, no crashes since...

I'd like to update my results. From last night, just like djflan, I removed HD Widgets and so far, 7 hours later, the crashes are gone. So I have my fingers crossed that I've found my culprit.
Also, I installed the HoloWeb browser and I have found it to be quite a bit quicker and more stable than Chrome. For those of you have issues with Chrome it is worth a few moments to track this app down (here on XDA) and give it a try.
Some of you may not have remembered or gone through the Android 3.x transition, but these kinds of issues were very prevalent during that update as well. Many developers simply don't or can't test on a wide enough range of devices and OS combinations to catch all the issues, or they rely heavily on assumptions or code that "always worked fine" in the past. I think we're seeing the same sorts of behaviors again with 4.2, so it will take a couple of months for it all to shake out.
For now I think I have a stable configuration on the Nexus 10 and I'm sticking with the device. No RMAs will solve issues that are software related in my case.
Removed hd widgets, no crashes yet.
I get the same random reboots and I've never used the fancy widget app. it has happened 3 times already. One I was browsing, another time deleting a widget and the last one when I tried to change the wallpaper. Everytime I had to hold the power button 5-6 seconds until it reboot

I spoke to soon earlier... I actually had 2 restarts today. Once while chrome attempted to open a link from tapatalk and another while trying to load one of the free magazines in the play app.
I don't have hd widgets installed either

Got the N10 a few days ago and I noticed immediately a severe 5-7 sec wake-up lag. The delay is so long that instinctively, I always press the power button twice, believing the unit is powered down (the Xoom I owned before would wake-up almost instantaneously).
This problem is/was always present, even with the unit completely stock.
Other owners experiencing the same problem? What's your average wake-up delay?
Thanks,
---Mirco.
I usually have about a 1-2 second lag upon waking. It's a little annoying sometimes, but not too terrible considering how much I love the tablet.

I haven't noticed this issue at all with my unit.
I notice about 1-2 sec delay sometimes when waking my tablet.
I posted a video on YouTube that exemplifies the problem:
youtube . com / watch?v=sbjCi8K6kyY (the forum won't let me post links: remove the spaces to watch)
As you can see, from the moment I press the power button (sec. 5) and the moment the tablet wakes up (sec. 11) there's a full 6 seconds delay.
I've seen it on mine... It seems like the screen always ends up rotating when I see the lag.

Haven't figure it out yet: it started doing it right out of the box so I doubt it's some sort of software/configuration problem.
All I know is that it's driving me crazy and I'm ready to return the unit.

Tried it on my unit and it's doing the same thing! But it's random, sometimes I have a 1-2 sec delay and sometimes 5-6 sec. Very strange...

This.
Best advice I can give is reflash the stock image from Google, instructions are available on here or on the android side itself, along with the image.

Did that, several times. Completely stock, bootloader locked/unlocked, rooted or not, it makes no difference: the 5-6 seconds wake-up delay is always there.
One thing I noticed: it disappear when the tablet is connected to my PC via USB cable. In this case wake-up time is the normal 1-2 secs.
I've just noticed the same issue. Mine can work fine for a few unlocks and then it will flash the unlock screen for a split second and go black. After reading the other posts on here, I left it for a while and 25 seconds later (tested three times now), the unlock screen appeared properly, enabling me to enter my pin and use the device. If I didn't enter the pin, after a couple of seconds of inactivity, the screen would power off as per the normal 30 timeout for pin entry.
If this is another hardware fault, I think I'll have a little cry First my Nexus One had digitiser issues, then power button problems (both times replaced/repaired under warranty). The Galaxy Nexus had 5GHz wifi issues and the Nexus 7 had bezel lifting issues...
**UPDATE**
As soon as I posted this, I remembered I'd recently installed LightFLow to get my notifiction lights for emails like my GNex has with CM10. I uninstalled it and tried again. After 30 power off/on cycles I haven't had one instance of it having the unlock delay...Seems connected in my opinion (in my case anyway).
I see nobody else here remembers having to wait for radio's or tv's to "warm up" before using them 1-2 seconds? HAHA, yeah, terrible lol I'm not talking just the 30's to the 60's here, I mean the 70's and 80's, I'm 41 Maybe those of us my age and older appreciate the tech now the most, because we've seen it progress so much from where it was.
Hey guys ! I have very annoying problem recently just started happening on my note 3 ! Is anyone having issues after their phone is left alone for a minute, when u hit the power button to bring up the lockscreen it very quickly flicks on then off, then tap the power button again to bring up the lockscreen and it comes back on very quick and extremely bright screen then goes away. After that I can open my phone but its very annoying and I'm constantly for a second fighting the power button to get in my phone. Sometimes I have to click the power button twice then it does this. I have stock lockscreen, launcher and not rooted. I tried both options with multiple widget or no widget options and still does it. Please help. Thank u

Did this resolve on ur phone now? As I found this issue on my brother in law note 3. We bought but not in same shop. At least both is Samsung original. Having this issue.

I havent had the problem several days now . Apparently I had a 16 gig in my phone that became corrupted had to put an old 8 gig card in there. Also take out the battery out for a couple minutes and put it back in . One of these things seemed to correct the issue

I was using my Nexus 7 (2013) this morning surfing some sites, when all of a sudden my touchscreen just up and died. No laggy response, no jittery response, just nothing. I can't even unlock it when I wake it up. I can't power it off (as far as I know), since after I hold the power button down, I can't select Power Off.
I'm rooted running a stock 4.3 as fas as I know. Any ideas of where to begin? Thanks in advance.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I had the same issue when I didnt use it for 4 days. Touch would respond and when the power off dialog came up I couldnt touch it but just hold the power button longer and it will reboot. I held it for about 15 seconds maybe 20 and it will restart
Well, if that previous posters suggestion does not work, or any software-related solution, my first suggestion would be to send it back for a replacement, barring that, it sounds like something could have come loose, if you're the type to try it, you can see how that is addressed with the 2012 version:
Google for "How to Fix Nexus 7 Touch Screen Problems", the video is by Tampatec.
Happened to me too once but i was on a custom rom and kernel. I freaked out when the touch wasn't responding!
I held down to power button to power-off/reboot. It seemed to result in a bootloop and i wasn't exactly patient because i was freaking out a bit!
So, i powered down the device again, booted into recovery (TWRP) and to my relief the touch worked!! I just rebooted back to the system and everything was fine.
This happened to me on stock android 4.3 twice. I believe it is a software issue with the last one or two factory builds of 4.3 for this device. As previously stated, my problem was fixed by holding down the power button for about twenty seconds until it rebooted.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
I got it to reboot and that seemed to do the trick *crosses fingers*

Had this issue too a few days ago. I connected it to my PC and rebooted it via adb reboot command.
Occasionally I get this issue after switching the screen on running completely stock 4.3, but I can solve it by holding the power button - not to reboot, but just so the menu comes up. That alone wakes the touchscreen up for me.
